Melania Trump has been a practicing Catholic this whole time & no one knew

King Filip and Queen Mathilde of Belgium received at the Royal Palace in Brussels, on May 24, 2017, the President of the United States of America Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump in Audience

Donald and Melania Trump left Italy yesterday and headed to Belgium. I’m already sorry, Belgium. I know our president/emperor sucks so hard. Please don’t hate America! Most of us know that he sucks too. The photo above is from the Trumps’ visit with King Filip and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, at the Royal Palace in Brussels yesterday. I saw video of this and it honestly seemed like Filip and Mathilde were trying not to laugh AT Bigly Boy. That being said, I think the Queen liked Melania. They seemed to get along.

I’m loathe to treat Melania like a style star just because I think it’s a slippery slope that leads to normalizing her baby-fisted tyrant husband. So, I’m not doing any designer IDs for Melania for this trip, but I will say that I’m curious about the giant belts she’s been rocking throughout the whole trip. I feel like there’s a real possibility she could influence the coming seasons and become a genuine trendsetter: giant belts, worn very high, will be in for Fall/Winter ‘17.

Apparently, Melania was dressed so somberly in Rome and Vatican City because she’s secretly been a Catholic this whole time. I don’t think she said the words “I’m Catholic,” but she asked Pope Francis to bless her personal rosary, and now everyone is like “she’s Catholic…?” Her spokesperson confirmed that Melania is a Catholic too.

Melania actually took pains to hold hands – briefly – with her husband yesterday too, when they visited the Sistine Chapel. This is only the second time in one week that she’s actually touched the baby fist in public.

I’m also including some photos of Melania trying to do the “Queen of Hearts” thing in Vatican City yesterday, where she visited Pediatric Hospital Bambin Gesu and looked awkward as hell. I will give her some begrudging credit – she probably just wanted to peel off and go shopping, but she actually spent some time talking to the kids and trying to show some humanity. The kid’s side-eye says it all though. What’s Italian for “This lady is trying to use me as a political prop”?

With what/how did Trump and his people force Melania to hold his hand 😉

    • swak says:

The way they are holding hands is the way I hold my grandchildren’s hand when walking with them or I don’t want them to get away. Also, you can say your Catholic and still not practice your religion. I’m born and raised Catholic but do not practice the religion. PR stunt IMO.

      • Pumpkin Pie says:

My first impression was that she was holding his pinky, not his hand. Anyways, they look ridiculous.

      • BJ says:

I screamed when I read,”When…I don’t want them(your grandchildren) to get away.” LOL

      • Zaratustra says:

I too think it is a PR stunt.
Melania is from a former soviet satellite state. While religion wasn’t exactly suppressed it certainly wasn’t encouraged. “Religion is opium for the people” was very much the underlying theme. The truth is that organised religion (catholic church, protestant “church” in Germany) played its part in the oppression of people and it did prevent civil rights and human rights because they were considered competition to “the only true” statement (god’s words, the bible). As a matter of fact religion helped the aristocracy for a very long time to keep the people as subjects or worse as bond slaves (sould belongs to god, body belongs to feudal lord).

      • Kata says:

Melania is not from former soviet satellite state. Yugoslavia was never a soviet satellite.

      • FLORC says:

I don’t practice much anymore. Not like I should. But, yea I’d bring my personal rosary to be blessed. That’s big.

    • agnes says:

“Okay, Melania. Ever heard of Via Condotti? You want to go there? Then you have to behave like a nice little FLOTUS and touch TheOrangeOne’s hand in public and let us take a nice little picture. That easy!”

      • Magnoliarose says:

Probably right. He most likely threw a million or two to get this money shot. Pun intended.

      • Zaratustra says:

He is cheap. I think he paid less. 😉

      • Felicia says:

I suspect his version of holding hands is probably much like his version of shaking hands. No wonder she doesn’t want to.

      • Ksenia says:

Over 60% of Slovenia is Catholic—so it’s not a surprise that Melania is Catholic. Not quite sure what that has to do w anything, anyway? Also, how do we even KNOW she has been a “practicing Catholic all these years?” We simply don’t. It makes sense that, if she was raised even nominally Catholic, seeing the Pope and presenting a personal rosary (allegedly personal) might be a big deal for her, even if she no longer practices Catholicism. “SECRETLY been a Catholic all this time?” WTH? So what if she once was or is currently a practicing Catholic, are you implying that she’s been hiding information that it’s only fair and even crucial that she have shared w the American public? I don’t like her at all, either, but for actual *reasons*. So all I can say about this story is, PLEASE.

    • Original T.C. says:

You know what guys, I wonder if Melania is in full out protest mode because Trump let Invanka bring her kids but Melania wasn’t allowed to bring Baron. He can be kept in the background and not be on camera. These are historical places they are visiting and it’s a shame that he left out his son and Melania’s only child out.

      • Shannon says:

omg I didn’t even think of that! Yes, I wouldn’t be surprised one bit. Damn, her troll game may be pretty strong.

      • sarah says:

As a sort of defence, Baron is still in school and Ivanka’s kids are very young (pre-school or kindergarten). But yeah, they could have brought a tutor for Baron and had him on the trip.

  2. SolitaryAngel says:

    That poor kid. 🙁

    • BeamMeUpScottie says:

      LOL
”The kid’s side-eye says it all though. What’s Italian for “This lady is trying to use me as a political prop”?”
      So true

  3. tanesha86 says:

What’s going with her hair here? She looks like she just stepped out of the ’60s

    • burnsie says:

      I think it’s a wig

      • Abigail says:

i think it must be a wig, too… there’s never any defining part to her hair, and it’s like it’s combed forward…?

    • zinjojo says:

I always dislike her hair and think it generally looks bad.

Also, what’s up with the gingham shoes? It’s one thing to wear a gingham print dress, but shoes too? Yuk.

    • pinetree13 says:

Huh i like her hair here and always think she looks good, well polished, I like her clothes too. Wow I said something nice on a Trump post LOL

  4. L84Tea says:

Honestly, I always assumed she was Catholic, so I’m not shocked. Also, I just love all those royals over there in Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, etc. They all seem to get along well with one another and seem like they enjoy one another.

    • t.fanty says:

She may be Catholic, but she sure as heck isn’t Christian. None of these hypocrites are. She can go through the motions, to make herself feel pious, but none of these people are godly.

      • adastraperaspera says:

        Well said.

      • SamfromTrinidad says:

I may get into some trouble here but I wish you’d revise your comment. Catholics whether pious or not or practicing or not are Christians. I know you’re using Christian to imply something else, with regard to embodying Christian values. She is a Catholic and she is a Christian. She may be immoral or unprincipled but that’s different. I know, I know – a bit of a grammar nazi and I am also Catholic. Apologies in advance.

      • T.Fanty says:

She’s may be Catholic in practice, but not in spirit. How’s that?

      • megan says:

I don’t think it’s right to comment on whether anyone is following their Christianity to not – it’s funny how judgmental we can be towards someone we don’t like.

      • T.Fanty says:

When ‘their’ idea of Christianity doesn’t mesh with Jesus’ idea of Christianity, they’re wrong. Sometimes, it is just that simple, and my suggestion to anyone who thinks it isn’t , is to read the Bible. And you’re right, I’m judging her – I don’t like hypocrites.

      • geekychick says:

        T. Fanty, this is going in the direction of religious discussion. frankly, I don’t go around claiming my friends of other faith are wrong by Christ. I kinda think it’s Christ’s call, know what I mean?
“Leave the judgement to me” and all that jazz God said, per Bible?

signed, a Catholic who’s rolling her eyes so hard right now

      • Miss M says:

As a Catholic, Born and raised and educated in Catholic schools, many of us use the being Catholic when suit us. T.Fanty is not Melania’s friend. She is stating her opinion.
Religious or not, this family is full of hypocrites.

      • Honey Bear says:

Eek! Do you need a mirror?

      • Miss M says:

@honey bear: if your comment was a reply to mine: no, I don’t need a mirror. If you re-read my comment I said “many of us”, so I included myself on it. I wonder why so many of you on this thread are being defensive… Hmmm…
Yes, they are an extra layer of hypocrisy… Extra en Hypocrisy in capital letters.

      • Millie says:

As a Roman Catholic myself, I would advise you like others to consider your wording. Lots of Christians of the Protestant tradition love to say Catholics are not Christians. I never thought of myself as anything other than Christian but my father’s side of the family is Protestant and they love to call myself and my mum papists and devil worshipers among many other names. They really are just that ignorant.

Of course, I understand what you are implying T. Fanty but it still leaves a poor taste in my mouth because the wording does carry a lot of loaded historic connotations in my opinion.

      • Magnoliarose says:

I know what you meant. When people publicly wrap a cloak of religion around themselves they invite scrutiny. I think it is a natural response in this case especially.

      • Connell says:

Millie, thank you so much for saying that. Many Protestants look down on Catholics. It is ignorant; I would know because I have attended many different churches in my life. My ancestors were Catholic and practiced their faith in secret. I believe it was enormously difficult for them, and one of the reasons they came to America. It means a great deal to me that Melania is Catholic. It is her business when she received her sacraments. You do need to convert from Catholicism to marry in the Presbyterian church. Catholics are baptized a few weeks after birth, typically in church, but it has been done in homes, secretly. My husband was baptized in a hospital right after his birth.

      • Megan says:

Other Megan here … I assume people like Melania and Spicer, Ryan, et al read the New New Testament where Free Market Jesus preaches a gospel of every man for himself and profits over people. It’s a highly convenient doctrine since it allows you to be callous, greedy, and racist all in the name of God.

      • Zaratustra says:

Catholicism is about hypocrisy. That is why Luther nailed his 95 thesises on the doors of several churches in Wittenberg. Though the thesises were first part of a letter to some bishop and then later Luther gave several copies of his thesises to some acquaintances. That started a reform of the catholic church and it was the beginning of the protestant “church” / religion.

Catholicism wouldn’t have become what it is nowadays without hypocrisy. The most beautiful churches were financed by selling letters of indulgence to sinners. Some bishops in Germany were actually aristocratic warlords and had families of their own. Their sons would be the next bishop. It worked like this: first the aristo warlord would marry and father some sons. Then he would become a bishop and get rid of his wife (usually sent into monastery). Naturally after getting rid of the wife the new bishop would have a mistress. Usually younger and more beautiful and more obedient.

Hypocrisy. and I was born and raised as a catholic but I consider myself to be a deist or an atheist. It keeps changing but I am honest about it.
        😉

      • Cee says:

As an atheist born and baptized and raised a Catholic I would just like to say Catholics are the OG Christians. Protestants and whatever else there is, came AFTER Catholicism.
To say Catholics are not Christians or that they’re devil worshippers is downright ignorant and un-Christian. And yeah, they might be Papists but hey, at least they follow and are part of Jesus’ Church.

Signed an Atheist who has no time for religious snobbery.

      • blonde555 says:

        Those who cast stones..

    • geekychick says:

Slovenians are not overwhelmingly religious and they have a large percentage of protestants (they are a kind of exception on both accounts when considering their neighbours coughItalianscoughcroatianscough, at least on the paper), but majority are catholic, at least on paper. I’m not surprised. it’s similar to being surprised that some Italian celebrity is catholic.

    • Ghost says:

I mean, you could have guessed she’s at least culturally Catholic, being from Slovenia and all? I thought this was just assumed.

    • wolfpup says:

Here I watch, people judging one another, by the name of their faith, and then how they consider that the lives of the “other” are not the same as their own interests, while are speaking from the same religious book. This is a laugh or cry moment. I suggest we give it to the clowns who laugh because of their tears…

Melania is no Trump fan – though she might sell herself for money. Why should we diss a beautiful woman for her idea of SURVIVAL – can we sell her because of her attempts to become Free? (Buy and sell -ARGHH!).

I do not consider that Melania will do anything out of the ordinary, other than what we have observed. She is private – but God Bless her and all mankind if she is able to break free of this jerk with her dignity intact. Because a woman was fooled – does not make her a fool forever!

  5. manamoo says:

I hate that I know this but yes she is Catholic.

    • Miss M says:

      So is he… 😔

      • PunkyMomma says:

He’s Presbyterian. And I’m sure I read that prior to their marriage, she had converted. Neither Melania, nor her siblings were baptized or received Holy Communion as children. I’m hunting down the cite.

      • Miss M says:

Punkymomma: interesting, thank you. I wonder why he disnt deny when Hillary said he was catholic in that fundraising.
I do know he went to jesuit school.

      • PunkyMomma says:

Here’s the cite from HuffPo regarding Cheeto:
        http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-stebenne/donald-trumps-religious-b_b_11072346.html

I’m pretty sure I read about Melania in the Vanity Fair story covering their wedding.

      • swak says:

@Miss M, many parents who are not Catholic send their children to Catholic schools. Jesuits are known for their ability to provide a good education.

      • geekychick says:

Slovenia doesn’t have catholic schools. Actually, any kind of religious schools (primarily jesuit) were banned during the 18th century in all of Hapsburg Monarchy (Thank You, Maria Theresia!)

      • Miss M says:

        @punkymomma: thank you!
@twak: I know. I went to catholic school for 12 years and I do have friends who are not… But he could have clarified that on that occasion and he didn’t…

      • spacelab says:

@geekychick: wrong. i’m viennese and all of may family have always attended catholic schools, even jesuit ones. if slovenia really does not have any catholic schools, this must be due to their communist decades during the 20th. century. most countries which were part of the habsburg empire retain strong catholic traditions. plus: maria theresia was a devout catholic ruler. she did not ban catholic schooling at all but additionally introduced mandatory free public schooling for everyone which was kind of a revolutionary thing in those times. by 1790 every austrian citizen, even the poorest peasant in the last mountain village, was supposed to be able to read, write and calculate.

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

@geekychick: How about Škofijska klasična gimnazija in Ljubljana? That one is run by the Catholic Church, is it not?

      • Kata says:

I’m not sure about Slovenia, but in Croatia religious schools are very rare. There are a few, mostly high schools ( I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a religious elementary school). Things could be pretty similar in Slovenia.

    • Cee says:

If she’s not baptized then she’s not Catholic. End of.
Of course, she could have been baptized as an adult and taken the following Sacraments as soon as she could.

      • wolfpup says:

Geez – just take lessons from a Catholic priest and being agreeable makes one Catholic? Not forgetting the rites, of course…that the Catholics promise that Protestants cannot perform for heavenly being and afterlife. I took lessons from a Catholic priest for 6 months and attended a Master’s level seminary (Bob Jones type) for 3 years. I am not saved by believing in something that my mind counts as its own – that is My Ownership of Reality – and if any of these things were true, it would be written on the hills and mountains – the streams would speaking. Just for those who deny their captors their own souls and brains. If there were a God, he would Save Us All. However, he is not all-good-nor all-powerful – Obviously!

In my opinion, this is only about mind-control. “Believe, simply believe”, and you will be baptized! Your belief alone, will save you from hell!

When will we ever learn to take care of the needs of our planet, here and now? Not for a reward or punishment, but simply because we love!

  6. Esmom says:

Did Trump know she’s Catholic? Lol.

He may have managed to get through this visit semi-respectably but nothing, NOTHING can make up for that pathetic, ignorant note he left at the Holocaust memorial in Israel.

    • ArchieGoodwin says:

      100%

All this trip highlights to me, is that he knows how to behave properly. He can do it, just in the US he chooses not to. That makes him beyond any asshole I can even find words for.

      • Kitten says:

Really? For me the opposite: this trip makes it clear just how deeply he struggles with basic social protocol and minimum decency.

He’s someone who’s always gotten away with behaving like a barbaric, uncouth bastard under the guise of being a “bombastic millionaire businessman” who “tells it like it is!”.

        Bullshit.

He’s just a classless, spoiled ahole who’s never been taught to behave because his privileged life has never required that of him.

        He’s trash, plain and simple.

      • Esmom says:

Kitten, I agree. When I said “this visit” I meant the Italy portion. I would hardly say he’s gotten through the rest of his trip semi-respectably. He’s an utter embarrassment, at home and abroad.

    • SusanneToo says:

For those who missed the note, here it is. Also, a But, Obama….

      • swak says:

Thanks for the link. I’m surprised they didn’t write an appropriate note for him to leave.

      • Esmom says:

swak, I thought the same thing at first…and then I realized his staff probably tried but he likely brushed them off saying he didn’t need their input because he knows everything.

      • AMA1977 says:

This made me tear up. I miss him so.

      • Llamas says:

        Obama has really nice handwriting!

But yes that note sounds like something a first grader would write when they have to describe their field trip.

  7. Erinn says:

Honestly – if she wants to spend less time with Trump, involving herself in more kid oriented charities would be a good escape plan that would make her look good all while avoiding him. Every once in a while she looks happy – and she looks a hell of a lot prettier when she does.

    • holly hobby says:

She looks really happy in that picture with the Belgium royals. That’s the first genuine smile I saw out of her.

The somber frown standing next to Orangino is probably is perma face.

  8. Seraphina says:

I have to disagree with you Kaiser on this one. And I’m always in agreement with you 🙂

From other pictures I saw, She looked genuinely engaged with the children. Her smile was from ear to ear and looked HAPPY. I think she connects with them. I have read she is totally devoted to her son and after seeing the pics of her and the kids on her trip, I think she has a genuine love of kids. No playing queen of hearts.

And if that is an act she needs to give lessons to Kate Cambridge. Sorry I could not resist 😉

    • Anna says:

I totally agree. I mean you can say whatever about Melania – but let’s be fair – she always looks so happy and radiant around children. I think she actually enjoys those times more than any others.
Although I think she also loves to dress up, and I think she does an amazing job. The clothes always look fitted and are always elegant & feminine and mostly age appropriate. This may seem like an easy job….but then again look at Waity…she barely ever manages. Melania and her style reminds me of Letizia actually – she also always looks so put together and appropriate. I think they are both just look so classy. Plus let’s mention Melania’s D&G dresses and accessories in Italy – they looked amazing on her and she wore an Italian brand. I think she did good. I guess the hair style tried to resemble Sophia Loren’s hairstyle from back in the days? I remember seeing a picture of her with this hairstyle….

      • Kaitlyn says:

Thank you, Anna, for the dress/accessory ID. I was wondering. I thought she looked great.

I agree with Seraphina and Anna and others who think Melania looked genuinely happy and engaged when she was with the children. I also thought she looked very dignified and respectful at the Vatican.

    • Dlo says:

I agree @serephina. I think Melania genuinely loves children and was moved by her visit.

      • Sunya says:

You were moved by her visit? Were you moved by her sucking up tens of millions of tax dollars so she can liver in her literal gold tower that could instead go to giving children healthcare?

      • Seraphina says:

Sunya, I believe DLO meant Melania was moved by her visit. Meaning that it was a visit that emotionally touched her.

      • Sunya says:

Well the sentence started with “I” so that’s the only thing to take away.

      • Seraphina says:

        Sunya,

        The sentence states:

I think Melania genuinely loves children and was moved by her visit. The subject of the sentence is Melania, she (Melania) loves children and (She/Melania) was moved by her visit. It is understood the writer is still speaking about Melania because the sentence connector (and) connects two thoughts by the same person. Otherwise the writer would differentiate or start a new sentence to identify their belief introduce a new person.

      • Dlo says:

        Thank you @seraphina

    • Original T.C. says:

      I totally agree Seraphina,

Melania looked happy with the kids. She might need a bit more experience with putting the kids at ease but her interest is there. The other First Ladies like Michelle O. and Laura B. had much more experience doing volunteering activities before entering the WH as well as working with other people’s kids so Melania will need more time to catch up.

Also, I don’t mind her letting us know she’s Catholic to explain the rosary blessing. That’s the first thing I noticed in yesterday’s pictures was the blessing of her rosary and assumed she was Catholic but didn’t want the Right Wing Evangelicals to know since the view Catholics with suspicion. At least she doesn’t go around pounding it into our heads like Ivanka and the GOP, so I don’t mind. It’s people who wear their religion on their sleeves that bug me.

If anything this is a disadvantage because she will face questions about Trump’s new budget and travel ban going against the principles of Catholism: keeping the old, the sick and the poor, taking in refugees as preached by Jesus.

      • Seraphina says:

Original TC, I agree with the other First Ladies comment. She was never groomed for her role by being a governor or senator’s wife. She never would have imagined herself where she is (or those pics would never have been taken back in the day). But who are we to judge. Fate brought her here and maybe a spark can be ignited and she can do good with her position and money. But that will come in time because I’m sure the Emporer Orange Face tries to control EVERYTHING.

    • siri says:

Agree. She looks genuinely happy when with kids.

    • InVain says:

I’m in agreement here too. I’ve actually been at an event (for work, not to support her) at a children’s hospital that she attended. She was GENUINELY engaged, she seemed happy and comfortable with the children. Much more so than when she was speaking or being applauded for her attendance. The kids seemed to really like her too. Just sayin’…. she might suck at FLOTUS responsibilities but she does care about kids and you can tell, especially in-person.

      • wolfpup says:

I get tired of listening to my opinion – but once again, here it is. Children are a great deal easier than grown-ups for some people. It’s not that people who love children are less intelligent, but children are so much easier to be around! There is no judging, you can be simply beautiful and your energy can be vibrant, and you can high-five the vibrancy in each child -while attempting to be a role model that lets them believe in themselves. After being beautiful, for many years, women do get tired of being a doorknob – they need to shine their inner stuff. Beautiful is good – but the real gold ring is inner beauty! Beautiful women are quite lonely without this.

I taught school for 20 years. I ran a jewelry store for 5 and went to university for 12. So I’ve done a lot of nothing. I did raise 4 children, get married 3 times, and have been single for the last twenty, because I figured out, I didn’t understand how to do/find a man who was different than my family of origin. This has been a has been a huge learning curve for me – except for the children. May they bless Melania, as they have always blessed me because loving each sweet soul, taught me to love myself, and given me the ground of being in love with the universe.

      LMAO!!!!

    • Skylark says:

      Heehee, love it!

Love also the genuine warmth in that pic between the pope and Obama. Compare and contrast with his ‘something inside me has died’ expression yesterday.

  10. boredblond says:

Too bad she’s not public about the kids that are forgotten..in cuts to care, research, help to their families..in her vile husband’s budget.

    • Pumpkin Pie says:

I am not here to defend her, but what can she do about that, realistically speaking?

      • SusanneToo says:

I’m pretty sure Eleanor, Roslyn, Nancy, and Hillary among others whispered in their husbands’ ears to some effect. She could try.

      • Pumpkin Pie says:

Susanne – that’s why I put “realistically speaking” in the comment. As if he cares about Melania’s opinion. To him, only Nagini’s The Corrupt opinions matter.

      • SusanneToo says:

She should try. Of course, he won’t listen, but if it “slipped” out that she was concerned it would certainly improve her standing. She obviously loathes him so might as well go for the caring melania/callous donald narrative.

      • Pumpkin Pie says:

I am all for her improving her standing when it comes to caring melania/callous drumpf. But in a safe way. Who knows what abuse she went/goes through.

      • jwoolman says:

SusanneToo- those were normal Presidents. Donald Trump is not normal. He is unlikely to respond well to anything Melania says along those lines. Her safest approach has been to parrot his opinions. We really don’t know what she herself truly thinks.

      • Seraphina says:

        Pumpkin pie, complete agreement.

      • wolfpup says:

When a woman can’t stand a man touching her – she can’t help swatting – the don’t touch me INSTINCT! Even in public, it is a kind of revulsion – that your body teaches and demands. It is a response of the body to injury.

  11. Relli80 says:

I would have assumed orthodox catholic.

  12. Megan says:

I actually feel bad for European royalty. They are all going to have to host these baffoons.

  13. Mrs. Welin-Melon says:

    That contouring tho.

  14. SusanneToo says:

I saw a photo of that handholding. She looked medicated, he looked like he’d just realized he stepped in dogsh1t.

  15. Kyra says:

Maybe when she gets back she can spend some time visiting with the 23 million people her husband’s kicking off health insurance. Or bake a cake for the quarter of recipients to be denied food stamps.

  16. eXo says:

Aww she looks so happy in the last photo ;D

  17. Clare says:

I agree that the big belts will be a thing next season – but not because of Melania. I think, in fact, that she is wearing outfits from designers upcoming collections.

  18. Beth says:

A Catholic woman married to a satanic asswipe? What a great couple. Barf!
    Those ginormous belts are awful

  19. Kitten says:

PLEASE. The only thing these people worship is the almighty dollar.

    • minx says:

      Thank you.
I’m not cutting this woman any slack, whatsoever.

      • hmmm says:

She was baptised in the Catholic church? Big deal. How you live your life is what matters. She doesn’t exemplify any of the the tenets of Catholicism. She’s a snake like him.

      • wolfpup says:

However, the Donald has always held All the cards, in terms of money and her son. I love that she is showing feistiness on the world stage, and speaking…

Yet, we all know that the Donald will need to silence her. I hope that she can trust in the world stage, although who could trust in that, with such a man who demeans everyone in his path?

Give the woman and break, and let her divorce the ass without recrimination. She is in a corner with such a loud mouth jerk.

    • blonde555 says:

Don’t be a hypocrite. Obama commands millions of dollars for 1 of his speeches, most recent was 3 million euro for a speech in Milan. It’s safe to say he also only cared for the mighty dollar.

  20. ElleBee says:

I’ve been enjoying her fashion as well. I like the white skirt suit she wore a few days ago. The coat in the first pic is giving me Middleton vibes but Melania is much more stylish in it. She looks genuinely happy in the photo with the royals. Her face is a tad stiff but she seems to be enjoying the children as well.

  21. D says:

Please can we cancel her already. #NeverMelania

  22. robyn says:

Melania fails to exude warmth. The picture of her and the child seems so empty of emotion … except from the boy who appears to be thinking, get me out of here. And why is the mask not covering his nose as it should be if there is some kind of medical problem?

  23. suzyshine says:

Not a Trump fan in the least. Melania speaking Italian to the children however is cool. I think she’s the only First Lady who is fluent in several languages. Jacqueline Kennedy spoke French but not sure of any others. Trumps an asshole and maybe she is too, but I think she looks genuine in the photos and it’s great she could connect with the kids in their language.

    • robyn says:

Wonder if she speaks Italian better than she speaks English.

    • MacScore says:

Please don’t fall for the propaganda lie about Melanoma’s “fluency” in seven languages, a lie that was exposed during the campaign already, along with her other b.s. about holding a university degree (which she does not, but claimed on her website that she did, until forced to remove it after reporters discovered the truth). She is fluent in her own language (although no doubt not the most eloquent), speaks English passably, and probably picked up a smattering of Italian (“dove vai? come stai? va bene cosi?” etc. etc.) during her time “modelling” in Milan (and also being a native of a country that borders on Italy). Fluent she is not.

    • hmmm says:

She can barely speak English. I doubt her Italian is any better.

    • Wilma says:

Michelle Obama speaks at least French, I don’t know about other languages, but I really can’t imagine there would have been so few first ladies who spoke a second language.

    • Evie says:

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis also spoke fluent Spanish. She spoke Spanish when she went to Mexico on several occasions while President Kennedy was in office. Her accent wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad. And the Mexican people gave her a very warm reception. Here’s a link to the videos from June and December 1962, respectively:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imSoGA7uz5o

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72z2025GyBE

As for Melania, say what you want about her but she is known in NY for genuinely being warm around children. And her style does remind me a lot of Jackie Kennedy.

  24. SusanneToo says:

  25. Guest says:

Sue looks miserable in some of the pics. I don’t think she wanted to be on the 9 day trip

    • swak says:

They did wait until almost the last minute to announce she was going on the trip. They announced Jared and Ivanka were going before they announced she was. So, yeah, don’t think she wanted to go either.

  26. RBC says:

Funny how all these positive stories about Melania( supportive wife, photo ops with children, etc) seem to be increasing as her date to move to Washington approaches. With the exception of the ” slapping away Donald’s hand” photos. Someone is really trying hard to make her into the perfect First Lady. Nice distraction from the dumpster fire that her husband is creating with his administration. Well played

  27. Sansa says:

Nice to see some of you falling for the propaganda. Awww; she loves children, doesn’t she look so nice? All the whole forgetting she takes millions of our tax dollars so she can shack up in trump tower, actively pushed conspiracies about president Obama being some shady foreigner, and idly stands by as her husband sexually assaults woman after woman. She is trash, and so are the people who try to excuse her.

    • Skylark says:

      Couldn’t agree more.

To see her being praised for her ‘style’ and a handful of PR pics designed entirely to show her in a ‘caring’ light is more than a bit sickening.

She’s as rotten to the core as he is,

    • Kitten says:

Normally I’d be the first to point out that people can think she sucks, but also acknowledge that she does seem to like children…..

…however, I’m not that big of a person anymore.

Melania is toxic like everybody else that enables 45. They’re all repulsive, including his wife, and surrounding herself with cute children will not change the fact that she is a f*cking grade A grifter like the rest of this vomitous, vile family.

      • MacScore says:

Perfect, @Kitten! The real question we should be asking is, what has she _actually_ done as FLOTUS to ease the suffering of others, draw attention to social (or other) issues, improve the lot of others, for eff’s sake, *anything* that could be remotely described as acting as a role model? Using a photo op to grab an ill child is manipulative and I’m not buying it for a nano-second.

      • Beth says:

I remember she went to a childrens hospital and read a Dr . Seuss book to some kids. Wow! Trumpsters were going on and on about how wonderful it was of her. The kids probably couldn’t understand what the heck she was saying with that accent, and it’s not like regular, not rich, and people who aren’t FLOTUS haven’t done that. Big deal Melania and Trumpsters

      • hmmm says:

Mafiosi love kids as well. So? She’s far worse. She has aligned herself with someone who incites violence, and is happy to have thousands of children suffer and die from pre-existing conditions. This is one cynical photo op because Drumpf is getting desperate. Trash, indeed. As long as she gets hers she’s happy.

      • wolfpup says:

I don’t think that Melania understands US politics, knowing that that DT doesn’t understand the world). As a huge failure myself, as a victim of narcissistic abuse, where I would actually say that about myself, I do not count her as the enemy, yet. It is better to be poor than married to such a man!

I know, hmmm, how can we ever count on her? Perhaps we never shall, but let’s give her room to swat away that assholes’s hand, and have a good reason for that personal decision. Baby-steps, is sometimes the only possible. I can’t even imagine being married to such a disgusting man in the middle of the night, man – despite perks – and she seems unable as well…

There are words, such as “Stockholm syndrome, or trauma bonding”, that could strengthen her. As much as we want to discredit her, for marrying such a man as DT. – perhaps we should take our time…

    • Cynical Ann says:

Agreed. One of my dear friends, who is Catholic and to the right, loves that Melania is a Catholic in the WH. I’m Jewish and I could give a flying f that the Kushners are there. None of them uphold the values of their faiths. Barf.

    • Magnoliarose says:

The bar is set so low a few photo ops and she is suddenly something she clearly is not. I believe this show is to put Ivanka in her place. She is no shrinking flower. This woman is a hustler to the bone. Her past is murky and she clawed her way into Trump Tower like a street fighter and has no shame about the big grift they have going.

      • Skylark says:

Oh in a nutshell re the setting of the bar. If it was any lower, it would be down there in the dank and unexplored underworld.

  28. BearcatLawyer says:

For people who call themselves Christians, they sure have some bizarre ideas about what being a Christian actually entails.

    • noodle says:

      thousand times this!!
applies to pretty much any of those republican christian kool aid drinkers. I always thought America was this big awesome land where mostly great things are possible, but seeing how anything can be excused with a passage from the bible and you can still sleep peacefully at night just has changed this pagan’s opinion. maybe school system sucks but the bible study everyone sure passes with flying colours.

      • Lady D says:

I’m not giving up on Americans just yet. I absolutely believe there are far more kind, compassionate, and intelligent members of the US than there are jerks. Far, far, more, and they probably need our help.

      • wolfpup says:

You are absolutely right Lady D. America needs your help in reigning in this dark, dark horse!

The input of the European Union brought our dearest president, Barack Obama into power. America listened! Why is Russia simpering for Nato’s destruction? Why are people letting power mongers eat them up, forgetting the struggles and good works of those behind our dreams – those who have created our list of gratitudes…?

I want to be old and done, but the future belongs to you! The world changes scare me. I am going to be an old woman, in a few days – and the fight belongs to the young, who are willing to Think!

Climate change, and the transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich? I will go to rallies, but my body is becoming fragile.

  29. MacScore says:

Best thing to come out of the Vatican trip: the internet meme showing a pic of Melanoma in her black dress and veil, with the superimposed words: “Dress for the job you want: #widow”.
    Baddda bing!

  30. Lafawnda says:

I think her love and concern for children is sincere. I strongly dislike Donald but I really do like Melania. I think she gets way to much shade just for being his wife. I hope she continues doing her charity work. She is at least trying to make the best out of this awful situation. As far as the picture of the child giving side-eye, no one can ever predict what faces a child will make or how they will act in any situation. I’m sure there all plenty of photos of happy children with her. This is just a bad one that was chosen to make her look bad.

    • swak says:

What charity work has she done so far while being FLOTUS? She has been in her NY apt doing nothing except the occasional trip to Mar-A-Lago or DC. I hope she does do more, but not counting on it considering what she had done so far.

      • Beth says:

Her only type of “charity” she does is being Donalds watchdog by keeping cable news on all day to warn him about the fake, bad news that will upset him. FLOTUS should be doing more than vacationing and watching TV!

      • Cynical Ann says:

She’s never done any charity. Showing up at a hospital twice does not make her a charity patron. After the birther crap I have zero regard or respect for her.

    • Sunya says:

” I really do like Melania”

You like that she peddled the conspiracy about Obama being from Kenya? You like that she stands by as her husband assaults people? You like that she lives in New York City and costs the tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars a DAY so she doesn’t have to be near Donald?

      • Lafawnda says:

Yes, I love all of that.

      • Menutia says:

Lol, lafawnda you made me giggle.

        Ppppst I like her, too.

      • lyla says:

well, if you love all of that, then you must love donald too. they’re one in the same.

and what charity does melania do that you speak of?

      • Lafawnda says:

I was being flip. All jokes aside, you all need to relax or you’re going to give yourselves an ulcer and you’re about to lose your healthcare so you should try to stay as healthy as possible. Yoga, perhaps? A xanax to calm your nerves?

      • Kitten says:

Seriously? We have half this country giving the GOP and this family of grifters a free pass for their behavior. If that’s what you call “relaxed” then here, take my weed because I’m DONE with being relaxed.

      • Lafawnda says:

@Kitten, I’m totally relaxed but if you want to give me your weed then “Puff, puff pass!”

      • KiddVicious says:

Lafawnda says: Yes, I love all of that.

LOL! I just snorted water out my nose. I hate both of them but that still made me laugh.

      • wolfpup says:

Did I hear ‘free weed”, somewhere? Was that you, kitten? I would love to spend a peaceful smoke with you, for a few hours – but don’t tell!

  31. Catherinethegoodenough says:

Quibble, but I highly doubt Melania is a “practicing” Catholic. By definition that would mean she attends Mass weekly and on Holy Days, sacrifices and fasts during Lent, and receives the Sacraments when appropriate. It usually implies personal involvement within the church/diocese as well. You can call yourself Catholic without doing those things, but not “practicing.”

We don’t know everything about her, of course, but at the least we’d know if she attended Mass weekly. She doesn’t, unless she sneaks a priest into Trump Tower. So I would revise the headline and omit the word “practicing.”

    • jwoolman says:

There are actually many private religious activities/devotions that Catholics can choose to do at home. My mother certainly did. Praying the rosary is one of them, and Melania has one. She comes from a culture and time where Mass attendance wasn’t done (or wasn’t done much) in her family, so she might not have a strong feeling about that aspect of Catholic practice, even though it is pretty defining for American Catholics (who also used to be defined by no meat on Fridays, while many Catholic countries didn’t have that tradition). And who knows what Donald thinks about it.

Anyway, people do religion in their own way. She’s not trying to force her religion on anybody else, so I would let her go on that point.

    • Luna says:

“Personal involvement” indicates personality and lack of time constraints, not so much religiosity. Altho Catholic parents would tend to be involved in their children’s school.

    • Kata says:

Eh, in some countries that are culturally Catholic, like Slovenia is, being Catholic is as much a cultural thing as it is a religious one. It’s almost part of your national identity.I know people who consider themselves Catholic and barely believe in God.
She might think of herself as being Catholic without actually going to Church.

      • Catherinethegoodenough says:

Which is exactly my point. If that is the case, she is a Catholic, but not a practicing one. The headline is misleading.

    • Catherinethegoodenough says:

My point is that there is nothing in the article to suggest that she practices. (Owning a rosary doesn’t count.) Words matter.

  32. B n A fn says:

He, #45 was just at NATO talking crap that the other world leaders should pay up because they owe us money. He was begging as if we were broke and he was doing a shakedown, lol. The other leaders were looking at him like ye was crazy.

    • SusanneToo says:

Just posted a link on the sessions thread. trump is a pathetic Embarrassment-in-Chief.

      • B n A fn says:

Susanne too: did you see that photo op today with the world leaders?. #45 was seen pushing, the prime mister of Montenegro, with his hand and body, out of the way in order for him #45 to get to the front line. I know you maybe able to get the link. I saw this on the Andrea Mitchell show on MSNBC. Something is wrong with this man.

      • lyla says:

        @bnAfn

saw that. he’s such an embarrassment. it’s disgusting.

sidenote, i’ve tried to post a link to the video, but it keeps getting eaten up in mod.

    • Beth says:

I’m watching that too. Everything he is s saying makes me want to throw rotten eggs at him. Who the hell lets him say this sh*t?
      Getting worse everyday

      • B n A fn says:

Yet, he refused to pay his fair share, taxes, because that makes him “smart”, so say #45. Imagine him lecturing anyone about paying up. He stole from Student at Trump university hundreds of million of dollars and only payed back $25m. He had workers working on his buildings, under contract, and ended up paying pennies on the $s he owed them, he filed for bankruptcies five times, hundreds of $m that’s free money in his pocket, almost a $1b write off for him. the man is a disgrace without conscience.

      • Beth says:

Now Paul Ryan is on TV bitching about how awful and what a ripoff Obamacare is.

I need some more rotten eggs!

    • jwoolman says:

Trump has been singing that song for a long time and never seems to realize he’s wrong about how that works. He doesn’t know anything about NATO except how to say the word (not sure if he knows the expansion of the acronym). That’s why they were laughing at him.

Bet they are regretting even thinking about dumbing things down for his miniscule attention span. They should just do things as they would without him there. They can’t trust a word he says, he changes his mind all the time and he really doesn’t understand things. And they can’t let his tiny brain get hold of any intelligence reports because he can’t keep a secret. He’s really useless to them.

      • wolfpup says:

Donald Trump is the embarrassment-in-chief, and then we have Paul Ryan and the Gop supporting damaging ideas to millions of people So are there other ideas? – anyone, of how to change this scenario? An impeachment might work – but there are folks that do not know how to read. The Republican’s try to stop this from happening, that is, they don’t want educated readers. Can I cry, at this moment? Can I cry as a teacher, who notices, that there are children in high school, who cannot read, and ask me “am I-badd?” Weeping great tears!!! – I feel defeated because they feel victimized, and do not have the skills to stand up for themselves, other than looting to survive.

Hope – I remember when I was in the 7th grade – and we staged a walk-in/out. We were copying the behavior of protesters against the Vietnam war. The principal didn’t know what to do with all the children, rebelling. I don’t know about all the bug spray and looting, that occur, in television reports. Those are opposite positions on the scale – we are told…it’s the police against the protesters. What do we do?

The saddest thing, is these ignorants have elected the Donald who takes from the poor, to empower himself, and Putin, and the wealthy, even the Saudi’s. It was a pretty display- but Donald give up our poor, who are empowered by our ideals, and he will be hated for it – if I have a choice!!!

I can’t help America much longer because I am becoming fragile dying. Truthfully, I am just glad that I got out of here on time, while the earth was so beautiful in the sky, and evenings light, and every green things that pops up.

  33. Horsforth says:

On the belts, this was a trend at Chanel’s AW2017 show earlier this year, and I’m guessing that both of these belted outfits are Chanel (belt shape is the same, and the same as those in the runway show). So she’s not a fashion leader, but a follower.

  34. Tough Cookie says:

I feel like Duchess Waity is poring over these pics….gingham dress, matching shoes, moppy hair, wide belt worn high, lotsa buttons, patch pockets…and whispering “yes..she gets me.” I almost want them to meet one day (should be sooner rather than later) just for the “fashion” they would both bring.

    • swak says:

I wouldn’t count on sooner, not after the leaks of the Manchester bombing and the dressing down we got for it. I’d be surprised if they go to England this year.

  35. Disco Dancer says:

Melania is an evil woman! She looks like Lucifer’s handmaiden! Catholic, pahh! She’s using her religious persuasion to get public sympathy! Low life scum like her would sell their children at the first opportunity to save their sorry leathery hides.

    • wolfpup says:

No. Melania is not evil. Donald is evil, and she has to live with him, and support him, in the most evil of all ways – that is, she doesn’t want to do it. despite her despair, she continues. Will you do that for our country in 2018? Will you vote, so the GOP does not take from Us healthcare, food stamps, and those few dollars from those who are disabled? Do we give 1 trillion dollars to the rich – while stealing that same trilllion dollars from the poor, already given to them, so they do not stress? The rich do not stress about healthcare, nor food, nor shelter.

From what I’ve observed, Melania is not on the side of the Donald – she is bullied – and so we can’t expect much from her. Do we stand up for the right? The “right” and the rich are not synonymous.

At least Melania shows her disdain – Ivanka merely smiles!

  36. KiddVicious says:

I thought the wide belts were to give her some shape. She seems to be thickening in the middle and become more square shape. The belts make it look as if she has hips.

I do like that checkered dress with the matching shoes. I’m not usually a matching shoes type person but it works with this outfit.

  37. SusanneToo says:

I’m not being allowed to post it, but check #NATO on twitter. There’s video of trump shoving another leader aside to get to front and center of the group. We need an updated edition of The Ugly American.

Holy cow, that’s not even subtle! That’s a deliberate shove! Classy.

      • SusanneToo says:

      He has no shame. None.

    • Esmom says:

It doesn’t surprise me a bit…this sure isn’t our first taste of his boorish, rude behavior. Remember on inauguration day how he left Melania behind at the White House and just rushed ahead to greet the Obamas? He doesn’t have the first clue about being polite. He’s disgusting.
