Robert Pattinson is getting the best reviews of his career for his latest film

70th annual Cannes Film Festival - 'Good Time' - Photocall

I can understand how Robert Pattinson got work as a model during the years he was trying to be an actor. He has a great “look” for a model – tall and slim, not overly muscular, and that face! It can go from goofy to Blue Steel in a second. That’s what I was thinking of as I looked through these photos of Sparkles at the Cannes photocall of his new movie, Good Time: he looks like a very famous model. The light in the south of France really agrees with him too, although I don’t think the air down there is doing much for his hair. Enjoy these beauty shots, OG Twihards.

Does anyone know if FKA Twigs is in Cannes with him? I hope she is! They’re still happening and it’s my hope that Twigs is there for the premiere! She came to the London premiere of The Lost City of Z back in February, so it wouldn’t be the first premiere red carpet they’ve done together. I have my fingers crossed for some Twigs & Sparkles action tonight!

As for Sparkles’ new movie, Good Time, it’s getting good reviews and Pattinson is being praised specifically for his lead role. IndieWire calls it his “career best performance.” Variety calls the role his “career high.” Metro UK claims that Robert could “easily win Best Actor” at Cannes. Critics on Twitter are praising him to high heaven too:

The trailer is good. I’m interested.

  2. Aims says:

    Man , he’s still got it ! I’m glad he’s doing well .

  3. Svea says:

How can you know with those extreme clise ups in that trailer?

    • Original T.C. says:

Yeah at least from the trailer he still has the same dead eyes and the same one emotion in every shot. He might very well be good but the trailer doesn’t show it. Some times male critics just love when the so-called pretty boy looks ugly and is violent. That’s the key to their ratings heart. I’m not sure why people think good looking people can’t play thugs or be violent. Look up serial killers in real life. Maybe male critics are jealous of good looking guys and can’t take pretty women seriously?

To me Sparkle’s acting looks the same as when he looks like himself but again the movie might prove me wrong.

  4. Diana B says:

That movie looks goooooood. And apart from needing a new haircut that suits him better, he’s as delicious as ever. Loving that he’s getting so much praise for his work. That’s all he’s ever wanted.

  5. MC2 says:

I’m happy for him! Yea Sparkles!

  6. Jay says:

    Go Rob!!
Yeah I heard she’s there. We’ll see if she does the carpet and she has a thank you mention in the credits of the movie also

  7. Jess says:

Go Rob! I knew he’d get that recognition eventually, I’ve always thought he was much better than just sparkles, glad he’s getting to shine.

  8. Anname says:

Great day for Rob fans! So happy for Rob and the Good Time team. Especially the first time young actress (Talhia Webster) – it’s her 16th birthday and the first time she has been out of the US – what an experience this must be for her!

I am seeing tweets that twigs is there in Cannes, so I expect we will see her with him at some point tonight.

    • mia girl says:

You know I really like him in interviews and have come to really admire his acting (I saw Lost City of Z recently and he was really good).

But this make me really happy for you @Anname because you are such a loyal, respectful fan of his. 🙂

I hope he wins best actor at Cannes. That would be amazing. I am totally into seeing this movie. Looks crazy good.

      • Anname says:

Aww thanks mia girl 🙂 I am very much enjoying this today! I knew he would win enough people over eventually. No drama, head down, do the work, it is paying off for him.
All this chatter like “who knew!” and “finally a star”…etc etc is a bit exasperating/amusing to those of us who have followed him the past few years. But hey I’ll take the great reviews anyday!

      • TotallyOld says:

I agree with both of you! Long time fan and I knew Rob was talented, it just took the rest of the world to find out he was better than Twilight. Better late than never.

      • Diana B says:

I was just waiting for the rest to get on the bandwagon. He’s always been amazing.

    • Another Anne says:

I can’t wait to see what twigs will wear!

So happy for Rob, he seems like one of the genuinely nice people in the industry. I don’t think a lot of people appreciate how hard it was to move on past the role/image of Edward Cullen. He’s been so smart about his path.

  9. D. says:

Finally! My baby RPattz is being recognized as a great actor! He’s talented, intelligent and absolutely non-dramatic, I have so much respect for him!

  10. cindy says:

That trailer is amazing. I will be seeing this……wow.

  11. slowsnow says:

He is not unrecognizable, sheesh! Why this constant association with doing a role – and therefore changing hair, accent, facial expressions etc – and drastically altering your physique? It seems that an actor cannot be praised for anything other than changing his features, weight, hair color etc.

    • JJ says:

Most actors have their niche and use the same set of tricks from one movie to another. Accepting riskier parts that demand change of look/weight/accent is always praise-worthy for any actor. This project for Pattinson didn’t look like a certain win from the start, the Safdies are no Scorsese-level, they always work on micro budget and are actually super-divisive. I’m glad this risk is paying off for Sparkles and he’s getting the much-deserved recognition.

    • Another Anne says:

It’s funny, just last month everyone was saying how unrecognizable he was in Lost City of Z. He does seem to have some chameleon like qualities, which is a great thing for an actor. He’s showing a lot of range, which is a good thing.

  12. Pandy says:

    Good for him.

  13. mia girl says:

I LOVE the blue suit. He looks really good here.

  14. Penelope says:

    Love him–this is great news!!

  15. PunkyMomma says:

He sure can rock a suit! 👅

  16. Bug says:

He is really handsome. I agree on the “model” impression. He looks like having also a nice personality and a genuine passion for his job. Like KStewart,he did not stop at his planetary fame but went on changing, challenging, choosing interesting deeper stories and characters.

    • Gwen says:

LOL, how did she “change, challenge or develop any character”? She plays herself in every film, and she played the same character in her two French films, an assistant. They were even both assistants to actresses. She didn’t transform into a character at all. She didn’t change her walk, her voice, not in pitch or tone, she didn’t attempt an accent (which is good, because she can’t sustain an accent from scene to scene).

She is a celebrity who is in films, you can hardly call her an actress. And Chanel co-financed her two French films (in exchange for her wearing their clothes and accessories in the films). Even more proof of her celebrity over any acting talent.

Rob is the one who has always been the better actor, and it’s time to retire the “Sparkles,” crap. Twilight ended 5 years ago, can’t you get over it? Everyone else has.

      • ElbaQ says:

I’m a Rob’s fan and I respectfully ask you to stop. Kristen has gone far in her career no matter what you personally think about her. Stop embarrassing other Rob’s fans with this kind of write-ups.

      • lobbit says:

Yeah, I don’t know why you’d twist a seemingly innocuous comment about two former, longtime colleagues into some bizarre (and oddly aggressive) competition. So weird.

      • Anname says:

Fan wars, they never end. The Rob and Kristen and Robsten battles live on. It’s literally embarrassing to be lumped in with those nutcase “fans”. I cringe when I see the nonsense spill over onto legit sites, like THR or Variety or Indiewire.

      • Bug says:

        Hi everyone.
@Gwen: I did not say anything about her acting skills, I was talking about her and his choices.

  17. TotallyOld says:

Proud fan here. Rob has worked hard and mostly under the radar for the last 4 years honing his acting skills. He is very deserving of this recognition for Good Time and hopefully, finally breaking out of the Edward persona that most people identify him with. He has crafted himself a fine Indie career and will only get better each movie.

  18. Lucy says:

    Well, hellooooo there, Rob.

  19. Nicole says:

    That trailer. Intrigued.

  20. Angela says:

Since Pattinson and Stewart are acclaimed actors now, what about Taylor Lautner? Is there anyone from Team Jacob to enlighten me if he’s on the verge of a big comeback too?

    • Another Anne says:

I’ve always been surprised at how he disappeared. Not that he was a great actor, but I figured he’d get more work than he did.

      • Anname says:

He gets good reviews for his TV comedy work, so I think he will eventually find his niche there. He seems like a really nice guy, hope he finds his way.

  21. TheOtherSam says:

Is that Barkhad Abdi I saw in the trailer? Good to see him getting roles, he’s talented and should be working often.

    • Deidra says:

He’s in the movie for 5 min, but his role is juicy.

      • mia girl says:

Oh, have you seen the film? What did you think?

      • Deidra says:

I liked the movie a lot, and it’s not even my cup of tea! It’s very entertaining, stylish, with great soundtrack… reminded me of Drive with Gosling. I feared the movie would be too arthouse and bleak, but it’s easy on the eye and occasionally funny.

      • mia girl says:

Thanks Deidra! I’m looking forward to seeing this.

  22. lobbit says:

I can’t help root for the guy. So glad he’s getting good reviews.

  23. Another Anne says:

Can he wear blue always? That color is fantastic on him. He looks great, very fit and healthy.

So glad to hear the good reviews of the movie, can’t wait to see it. The trailer rocked. He has always seemed like a really good guy, who doesn’t take himself too seriously and has a great sense of humor. It’s great to see him doing well and being recognized for his talent.

I will also be very happy if fka twigs shows up with him tonight, wearing something amazing. The meltdowns will be epic.

  24. Jay says:

Awesome that twigs was there! She looked really proud watching him pose on the carpet (it’s customary for cast and crew to pose together) though she looked a bit overwhelmed when walking out to the car. Lots of cameras I’d imagine.

Really happy to see Rob being recognized and mentioned positively for this role. He seems very proud of it and it’s nice to see a nice guy actor who works hard, has been underrated start to succeed

    • D. says:

Oh, Twigberts … RPatz is having the moment of his life and all you can think of is how proud she looked…

  25. minty says:

    Daaaaaayum.
