Ariel Winter and her boyfriend of seven months got matching tattoos

I, like seemingly most of America, enjoy watching Modern Family. And, growing up on the “geek” side, I can kind of identify with Ariel Winter’s character, Alex. On the flip side, I can’t really identify with the real-life version of Ariel, but, hey, I was 19 at one time in my life too. The actress, who shares a lot of her life on social media, just shared the results of an evening at the tattoo parlor with her 29-year-old boyfriend, actor Levi Meaden.

The two, who have been together since November of last year, decided to commemorate their union with not one but two couple’s tats. Ariel inked a block of cheese on the inside of her ring finger and Levi got a jar of peanut butter on the inside of his. The tats are inspired by the couple’s nicknames for each other, for which they also have matching denim jackets. Ariel posted a pic of their digits on Snapchat with the caption, “Peanut butter and cheese with my love.”

I don’t know if the tattoo parlor was running a BOGO special, but Ariel and Levi also got half of a heart inked on the side of their hands and, of course, Ariel shared a picture with the ugh-worthy caption, “Me n Bae.”

The tattoos were inked by LA tattoo artist to the stars, Dr. Woo. He had previously created a tiger piece for Ariel’s back, which Woo shared a photo of.

Ariel loves the needle, apparently, as these tats join the tiger, as well as a snake on her arm, a spade on her right inner wrist, a Greek phrase across her hip, a roman numeral on her left elbow and the initials of her nieces and nephews across her rib cage. Before heading to the tattoo parlor on Wednesday, Ariel solicited tattoo ideas on Twitter – and those were the best suggestions she got?

She apparently isn’t done with the body mods, asking fans on Monday, “Can u be put to sleep to get a nipple piercing? And feel no pain? Asking for a friend…” Girl, stop.

I have so many questions. What’s with those nicknames? Who eats peanut butter with cheese? Let me correct that, who, other than a dog, eats peanut butter with cheese? (That combo is a winner according to Kevin’s dog, Pickles.) And who still rocks acrylic nails? Don’t get me wrong, you can find me getting a gel manicure on the regular, but I haven’t had acrylics in over 20 years. But, other than that, I know she’s young, but no one, NO ONE, should ever opt for the couple tattoo. It’s never a good idea, and will almost always be followed up with a cover-up job or laser removal. At least they’re small…and I guess if you love cheese, that second tattoo is perfectly fine.

I have to agree with CB and Hecate, Ariel is kind of exhausting, but she’s had a rough go of it, so I’m apt to give her a pass for her youthful transgressions. I’m not her Mom (or anyone’s for that matter), but I do think she should probably rein it in a bit. But I’m not on a hit TV series, so maybe I’m missing something.

    Kylie?

Ariel is such a cute-looking girl. Beautiful and adorable.
She does shit teens do. I see no harm in all this.
The tattoos are tiny, she can get rid of them any time she wants.

The tats on her finger may wear away quickly. My daughter and her best friend put a heart on their pinky and within a year it was gone.

  3. astrid says:

She needs to rein it in

    • INeedANap says:

See the great thing about this is in about 5 years, she can make a Sienna Miller-style comeback where she presents herself as a reformed woman of grace and ready to kick start the next phase of her career. Brilliant.

Also, their age difference is creepy. I’m 30 and the thought of dating a 20 year old is squicky and unappealing.

    • Lisa says:

She looks matronly. . She dropped a few pounds but needs to pump her brakes. She’s nowhere near where she thinks she is.

  4. Raina says:

Ahh, what’s the point of being young if you don’t spend years of regret over it later on.

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

For that reason, I don’t have negative words about her choices. His – on the other hand? He’s pushing 30 and he’s dating a teenage girl who escaped from an abusive household and is doing matching tattoos with her after a few months? Side-eye doesn’t cover it. I hope she won’t get hurt.

I think the peanut butter/cheese combo comes with the peanut butter cheese crackers…you know…the orange ones with the cheese inside! Delicious!!!

  6. grabbyhands says:

Man, this poor kid is just hitting everything on the list of really bad decisions.

Granted, at 19 you’re in the thick of “I’m practically an adult and I can make adult decisions” bad decisions, but I feel like all the stuff she went through with her mother has intensified that desire most of us had at that age to prove that you are in control of your life for the first time and you are going to do what you want because now you know everything, even though you really don’t (at least, I didn’t. I thought I did but it wasn’t until I almost hit my thirties that I realized how much I DIDN’T know),

At least the finger tattoos might wear off at some point, as they are wont to do.

  7. Honey says:

7 months isn’t long. I was with boyfriends in high school longer than that. I’d never get matching or name tattoos because once you break up, it’s a reminder forever.

    • Gin says:

Not if the tattoo is a small one on your fingers. Even if they don’t last long as a couple they’ll probably last longer than the tattoos.

  8. Anon says:

As someone who never went through a stupid teen/young adulthood phase, I’m totally fascinated by people like this.

  9. Barrett says:

I feel bad for her bc I think her crazy upbringing and spotlight at young age are at the core. Plus her character is nerdy and studious on modern family so she plays so to a kardashian extreme in real life.I fear it’s deeper and longer lasting than normal teenage stuff.

I wish she would take a break from holly weird.

    • Naddie says:

I could swear she’s 16, 17 by seeing and reading about her herel. This growing up phase is crazy, 1 year makes a hell of a difference.

    • Lisa says:

Yep. This girl has low self-esteem and a poor body image. She lost a little weight but is not being realistic. Imo, she looks like an old maid. She is going way overboard and is looking very foolish. I also believe she photo shops the heck out of her photos. Sometimes she looks very thin but in pap shots she is chubby.

  10. Jaii says:

I’m only a few years out of the phase so Yh I can’t judge her , I even did the “rebellious” tattoo which nearly gave my poor parents a heart attack. Luckily I had enough sense (god knows how) to get something that I am still happy and proud of, and very easily hidden on my foot. The coordinates of Mosul my birth place and Birmingham here my home in the UK, to show my pride in both which surprisingly my dad despite his views on tattoos love.

    • KLO says:

cool! I am sure your dad was very happy that you are so appreciative of your roots.

  11. Tim Whatley says:

The heart tattoo is apparently with her best friend Jessie (according to her twitter) not boyfriend.

  12. jannab says:

no hate on the acrylics, it’s hard to find an insta girl around her age without them.

  13. themummy says:

    1) Her fake nails look ridiculous…they don’t look in any way natural. It’s like she just stuck some large, oddly thick, thing on her real fingernails. They look gross, actually.

    2) Her boyfriend’s peanut butter jar is upside down. Um…why?

    3) I think this girl is headed for trouble. Hopefully she comes out of it ok. I know she’s 19 and doing dumb teen stuff, but she’s kind of taking it all over the top and making a wee bit of a fool of herself.

  14. NorthernLala says:

Thinking back to 19, I vaguely remember my boyfriend’s last name. There should be an age limit for couple tattoos. Like 40.

  15. Katherine says:

As long as it’s not actual names or other very specific person identifiers I’m fine with couple tattoos. If you can get over it after a breakup and just take at face value, not the initial meaning, that is.

  16. Nicegirl says:

A great nail tech is necessary for good Acrylics, but sometimes you gotta hunt for the right person. I love gel polish also, much easier to do imo.

  17. Cat87 says:

I just turn 30 today and got my first tattoo when I was 18. I am up to 9 so far. I didn’t get a tat just to be rebellious.I always wanted tats, full sleeves for a long time. I tell ever youngster a tat isn’t a trendy fashion statement. It’s an expression of you in ink. I never got the whole couple tattoo thing. I’ve been with my bf for 4 years. I still wouldn’t get a couple tat with him. And he doesn’t have any at all. My kids name or faces yes, cause being a mother is a life time commitment. Being someone’s other half isn’t even with a ring on the finger. Usually these type of couples break up after getting a tat together.
