Admitted sexual assailant Donald Trump is ‘not surprised’ about Harvey Weinstein

I guess it’s worth discussing how right-wingers are trying to make this into a “thing.” “This” being Harvey Weinstein’s (alleged) systematic harassment and abuse of women over the course of decades. Weinstein has always been a big-time (“bigly”) donor to the Democratic Party, individual Democrats and many progressive causes over the years. Many of the Democrats who received personal donations from Weinstein have already donated those funds to various charities and women’s issues groups.

The Republicans – led by the Trump family and their merry band of white supremacists – have been engaging with a serious case of Whataboutism. As in, what about Harvey Weinstein, Democrat and alleged pervert, so don’t pay attention to Donald Trump’s strikingly similar history of assault, harassment and misogyny. For whatever record, I think Trump and Weinstein are cut from the same misogynistic and abusive cloth. The difference is that when Weinstein’s behavior was finally made public, he was widely condemned in the wake of the news and he will likely be shunned for the rest of his life. When Trump’s abusive behavior was made public, millions of dumb a–holes made him president of the United States. Donald Trump even name-checked Weinstein during an informal media scrum as Trump boarded a helicopter to go to another f–king golf course – Trump said: “I’ve known Harvey Weinstein a long time… I’m not at all surprised to see it.”

Don Trump Jr. has been on Twitter since the Weinstein story broke, trying to score political points off of it or something. Like, he thinks he’s making a good point when he points out that, like, abusing and harassing women is wrong when Harvey Weinstein does it? Yes. It is wrong. It’s wrong when Weinstein did it, it was wrong when your father did it too. And once again, Weinstein isn’t running for f–king president. Don Jr. and Jimmy Kimmel have been tweeting at each other and Kimmel ended up reposting the Access Hollywood tape where Donald Trump bragged about assaulting women. This is probably why Donald Trump was whining on Twitter about “equal time” and late-night talk show hosts.

Also: apparently the Deplorables are really mad that Saturday Night Live didn’t devote a skit or any jokes to the Weinstein situation. It IS strange that there wasn’t even a reference to it in Weekend Update, but then again, a million f–king things happened in the past week, and SNL was focused more on the Las Vegas Massacre. You remember that, when 58 people were gunned down with an machine gun and the NRA-sponsored Republican Party won’t be doing jack sh-t about it? BUT HARVEY WEINSTEIN! “But Harvey Weinstein” is the new “what about Chicago” and “but her emails!”

Jill Filipovic’s tweet pretty much says everything. As does Senator Corker’s #DonnyDayCare. I’m getting a new level of loathing for Junior here too.

  2. Hmmnottoday says:

The massacre didn’t happen with a machine gun. It was a regular rifle with an accessory that makes the frame more flexible to temporarily act as an automatic weapon. A machine gun has to be bolted down, has a much larger caliber and cannot be manned by someone untrained.

    • Megan says:

The massacre happened with a semi-automatic rife with a high capacity magazine that was modified to simulate the automatic firing of a machine gun. There is nothing “regular” about that weapon.

    • Esmom says:

Ok thanks for the clarification. You gun nuts really love to point out the distinction between weapons but you don’t have much to say about those who lost their lives thanks to devices designed for one thing only, to incapacitate, maim and kill.

    • Lizzie says:

      welll actualllllllyyyyyyyy – shut up

    • StillTotalled says:

Error! A machine gun does NOT have to be bolted down, and there are many events on record of untrained people firing them.

    • K says:

Wow, thanks for that. So gun control needs to be massively stronger than people even realise, because according to you a regular gun can do this sort of damage – so all manner and types need to be tightly regulated and controlled, just as they so successfully are in the UK and Australia (after, of course, regular guns were used in their own horrific massacres.) Anything else risks massacres.

How anyone but a total sociopath can be opposed to controlling who can own guns, and what sort of guns they may own, is beyond me. Just how many dead children do there need to be?

  3. Sasha says:

    Birds of feather.

  4. Eric says:

Meanwhile the Pence Colts game stunt cost taxpayers &242K when his base salary as VP is $234K.
Then Pence flew back to CA to fundraise for Russian Oligarch, errrr, CA rep Dana Rohrbacher.
Time for Donny Two Scoops and the entire Adult Daycare Center that is the WH to resign.

    • Tiffany :) says:

“Then Pence flew back to CA to fundraise for Russian Oligarch, errrr, CA rep Dana Rohrbacher.”

I hadn’t heard this!!!! That is a really interesting development. I wish it was getting more attention.

  5. Nicole says:

Yea he posted about Weinstein and pictures. People responded with pics of his dad and Ivanka with Weinstein. I mean the hubris on these people

    • magnoliarose says:

Hahaha. He is not going to say anything about Harvey. He should watch it, and he is cautious with his condemnation. 45 doesn’t want that pandora’s box flung open.

  6. SM says:

Of course the Donald is not surprised. He finds this way of treating women to be normal and not that exceptional to be surprised about. The only mistake Harvey did in Trumps head is donate to the “wrong” political party.

    • Milla says:

Well this actually isn’t about politics. How did it turn into Democrats vs Republicans?
They are the same. Rich and powerful and repulsive. They are sexual predators. And they come from all religions and parties and colors and social circles.

      • Kitten says:

Nope sorry but it doesn’t work like that.
45 in the POTUS–he holds a political position–and as such everything about him, even his predatory behavior, will become inexorably tied to politics.

      • Milla says:

        Kitten

Yes. It is very sad and scary that he is potus. But Republicans cannot hide behind Hweinsten. Just like Democrats cannot hide him or Bill C. That was my point.

As for the elections… This too shall pass. I hope that you all know that the world loves American people now more than ever. Cos you got screwed over voting system. That’s not democracy.

  7. Lolo86lf says:

I was reading Ann Coulter’s twitter and she posted a lot of stuff about Harvey Weinstein and Hollywood actresses like Meryl Streep. Coulter in my opinion is trying to pin Weinstein’s behavior on liberal actresses and democrats in general. When Ailes and O’Reilly were exposed Coulter did not say a thing.

    • Esmom says:

Of course she is. And plenty of people on the right cannot stop screaming about how the left is somehow responsible for Weinstein. The raging hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance has been sickening to me.

    • Miles says:

I don’t think any actress should be held accountable for this man’s actions but I do find it odd how a lot of folks have been going after actresses they don’t like because of their Harvey connection.

But I’ve yet to see any criticism, on here, of how Meryl Streep called Harvey a god at the 2012 Golden Globes.

It seems some folks are using this to justify their hatred and slut shaming of certain actresses while completely ignoring the actors, producers, studio heads, other actresses (like Meryl) who also knew and did nothing about it.

I knew this would happen to. That people would start going after actresses that they hate and blame this on them. Instead of talking about how everyone above them is the problem. That they’re very much victims of this whole Hollywood system. I think that’s where the conversation really needs to go. Otherwise nothing will change.

    • Nancy says:

Ann Coulter is a sick twist. Don’t even read her tweets, it’s makes you crazy. She is the female version of trump but even more sinister because she has a brain. Ivana trump was on GMA and when asked about trump with Billy Bush, she parroted her ex and said he didn’t disrespect women, well except when he cheated on her, got another woman pregnant and broke up her marriage. Swell guy.

    • JRenee says:

I wonder if she really believes the trash she promotes 🙁

  8. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

People in glass houses should not throw stones.
It takes a sexual predator to know a sexual predator.
I had another one but I forgot it because I am just tired of the blatant hypocrisy coming from the Rethugs. I would have argued that they were not self-aware but at this point, I can no longer believe that because they can recognize the signs of a sexual predator. They just ignoreit when it happens on their side-unless it turns out the man is gay. Then they leave that man hanging out to dry like laundry.

Mike Pence is a loser stunt queen who legit thinks that he is going to be president once the dust settles with Dump. I wonder if his divorcee wife approved of this stunt before he did it.

    • Annetommy says:

Mother is divorced!? Isn’t divorce the work of Satan? Thankfully daddy Mike was there to help her repent.

      • Aiobhan Targaryen says:

Yep, MOTHER was briefly married before she married Michael Pence. Just look up their marriage certificate. What is even funnier to me is her ex-husband helped create CIALIS or at least oversaw the creation of the erectile dysfunction drug.

I personally have no issue with divorce as sometimes relationships don’t work out BUT she is a hypocrite who is a trusted advisor to this fundamentalist incompetant fool who wants to make certain actions legit felonies. She believes in everything that he does while having committed behavior that she could have gotten arrested for if they weren’t married. Just vile.

  9. Megan says:

I heading out shortly to pick up our new rescue kitten. I need to off-set Trump with more fuzz therapy.

    • Aang says:

We adopted two rescues in May. They are the only things keeping me sane. Only whe I feel the weight of them, and feel the vibrations from the purring can I relax enough to sleep. Enjoy your new friend!

      • Esmom says:

Ha, me, too on the sleeping with my rescue kitty! Last night my son had a friend sleep over and so she spent the night in the basement with them instead of with me and I kept waking up. And finding things to fret and worry and stress about. It was so nice to see her sweet face when she finally decided to come upstairs again a little while ago.

        Yes, Megan, enjoy!

      • Kitten says:

This so much. My little girl kitty sleeps on the pillow next to my head when my BF isn’t there. I cannot begin to explain how comforting it is to look over and see her sweet little face when I wake up in the middle of the night in a panic because of this administration.

My boy kitty sleeps in bed with me when it’s cold but it’s been super-warm here lately so he’s been sleeping downstairs instead. Best is having BF and two kitties in bed with me, although that doesn’t happen as often as I’d like.

        Enjoy your new furbaby, Megan!

    • ArchieGoodwin says:

a new kitty! congratulations to you and thank you for rescuing a kitty in need.

    • lisa says:

      awesome!

I’ve had almost 20 fosters so far this year

it takes A LOT of cuteness to offset this swamp

    • Megan says:

Thanks everyone. She will be joining Moochie, who we adopted in March. Active resistance requires a lot of fuzz therapy to maintain sanity.

      • magnoliarose says:

Yes, it does. My little Ragdoll mix is a sweet baby who licks and cuddles. She talks, and it lifts my mood. So does my dog though, she loves her walks and treats. We may add to the family.

        Enjoy the new baby.

  10. Elkie says:

Why would SNL devote a skit to Harvey Weinstein? Until the exposé 75% of their audience probably had little idea who he was.

Pence OTOH is an insult to every hard working American taxpayer who funded his pathetic stunt. I’ve never followed American football, but even I know who Payton Manning is, and upstaging him at that game was incredibly disrespectful.

  11. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

    Pot meet Kettle!

  12. greenmonster says:

Of course he is not suprised. When Weinstein told him years ago how he harasses women, they laughed and laughed. And then Donny Two Scoops took notes.

  13. Nic919 says:

What happened to the women who accused Dump of having raped them? In particular the story about a woman witnessing Dump rape an underage girl with Epstein nearby? That seems to have been buried.
Dump is just as bad as Weinstein, maybe even worse. The GOP who defend him are gross and Dump jr needs to be in jail.

    • magnoliarose says:

45 is sick to his core but so is HW; I think they both are so terrible and are off the charts and can’t be compared.

  14. JenB says:

Takes one to know one, eh Donny John?

I’m so over the conservative “outrage” about SNL not having a HW skit. Please.

  15. Karin says:

Ofcourse Trump wasn’t suprised; it takes own to know one.

  16. Karin says:

Oh, sorry. I just repeated what a lot of people have already said. 😂

  17. robyn says:

Been there, done that, Trump was probably thinking … which is why he wasn’t at all surprised about Weinstein!

  18. Otaku Fairy says:

Exactly. This situation does NOT exonerate Trump supporters/sympathizers at all. Actually voting a sex offender AND white supremacist into the freaking presidency is still worse than working with a sex offender or being a politician or activist who accepts money from one. So the Dotard’s Darlings can kindly STFU. People aren’t defending Harvey Weinstein. The MAGA heard is only bothered by rape culture when:
1.) They feel like they can use it as a weapon against all brown and black men.
2.) When it can be used against ‘The Gays’.
3.) When they feel they can use it against Hillary Clinton or one of the Obamas.
Any other time, they deny that it’s even a problem, chalk it up to “that’s just how men behave”, or use it as a tool against women. Spare me the fauxrage.

  19. Mermaid says:

Is anyone else enjoying the petty drama of the Ivana/Melania spat today? Ivana bragged she talks to Donald every two weeks and that she was the first Trump wife and said so I’m kind of like the real First Lady. Melania’s spokesperson dismissed it as attention seeking. The reaction on Twitter is giving me a warm fuzzy feeling of glee.
