Jennifer Lawrence interviewed Kim Kardashian on ‘JKL’: charming or awful?

Kim Kardashian during an appearance on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!'

The world is a terrible place. An unhinged nutjob is president, Mother’s Husband is coming for your birth control, a nuclear war could break out as some kind of “distraction” and a lot more. My point? We all have ways of dealing with it and disconnecting. We all need to veg out every now and then. My safe place for the past two years has been watching tennis. Jennifer Lawrence’s safe place has been Keeping Up with the Kardashians. That’s how J-Law decompresses and de-stresses. I find it harmless. So J-Law loves a tacky-ass reality family? We all have to deal with the awfulness somehow. It’s even sort of cute.

Well, J-Law got the chance to let her Kardashian freak-flag fly proudly last night, when Jennifer guest hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live. The show put aside so much time so Jennifer could “interview” her favorite person in the world, Kim Kardashian. You know what’s funny? Kim comes across as the more straight-arrow, moderating force here. Jennifer comes across like the obsessed fan who is nervous to meet Kim.

I love the “first question” about Reggie Bush. I love all the questions about Kim and her sisters. I love that Jennifer has such strong opinions about Kris Humphries. I enjoyed Kim’s story about “hacking” people’s voicemail. The story about Jennifer going to Kris Jenner’s house and getting ridiculously wasted with Kris… well, I think Jen should maybe cool it with the drinking stories? But otherwise, this is a rather charming interview.

This segment is also pretty good – Jennifer goes out on Hollywood Boulevard and asks random people if they can name five of her films. No one but Guillermo could do it. I love the woman who only likes Jennifer Aniston movies.

I liked both of them. It was cute. Jennifer’s outfit was awful.

  2. AN says:

This year I feel like I have less patience for people like Jlaw. I find her so try hard and insincere now. Which is crazy because I was a fan a few years ago but the last year I found her annoying in most interviews.
So I didn’t hate this interview but its eh for me. Probably cause I’ve soured on her. Much like Swift, Dunham…can’t stand any of them anymore.

  3. Wendy says:

I’ll admit to knowing next to nothing about Kim K., and not much more about Jennifer Lawrence; however, I watched the show and thought the interview was delightful.

    • Molly says:

And that’s how they got so popular in the first place. At their core, they’re both pretty funny and charming women. But they’re both PAINFULLY over-exposed.
If you come in knowing nothing about either, you just see the funny and charming parts.
(FWIW, as Kim gets more self-aware and JLaw takes much-needed exposure breaks, I’m back to really liking them.)

  4. dttimes2 says:

WTF is that shirt tied up supposed to be ? Hideous….the interview was a little cute

  5. Snowflake says:

I could only watch almost 4 minutes. jlaw is annoying, and Kim looks ridiculous. I know a lot of you like Kim. But I feel like her meek personality is fake. I feel like she’s the type who has other people do her dirty work for her so she can keep her image clean. Like her mom and Khloe. Kim did not want Kris to move his stuff into her house. He wanted a real marriage, she just used him. In old times, Kim would have been called a social climber

    • minx says:

I feel the same. JLaw is at least an actress; KK is a big superfluous nothing, and I have no patience with that kind of rich idle lifestyle. These are terrible times and KK and her family contribute nothing to the greater good.

    • Clare says:

Use him for what/how? No one knew who he was? I mean if you said she used Reggie Bush/Kanye, sure….but Kris H was hardly a ‘get’. Her sisters have had no problem bagging FAR more popular/famous/wealthy athletes/musicians – so while I agree they DO use people to further their own careers, Who the F was Kris Humphries?

      • Erica_V says:

Kris was actually a rising star in basketball when she first got together. She used him to get the press back on her after she and Reggie broke up. She used him to gain a multiple million dollar weddings special. She used him to fleece her friends & vendors out of thousands of dollars worth of money & gifts. And then she used him by divorcing him so she could have a good storyline for the next season of her show.

All while she was sleeping with Kanye on the side. She used Kris from day 1 to day 72.

      • tobeornottobe says:

And who was Reggie before Kim? Most of you didn’t even know he was a football player until he showed up on their show. He had a striving career pre-kim; she social climbed reggie. The other players were not dumb enough to fall for those tricks, Kris did.

    • Snowflake says:

She married him because she was freaking out about not being married. She wanted to be married, i don’t think she was using him to up her social standing. Kanye, yes.

    • jwoolman says:

I think Kim actually looks good in the picture, at least sitting down. She actually has been looking better a lot lately, maybe she has broken away from Kanye’s odd ideas about fashion. Is she wearing less makeup? She looks more human also.

There. I said something nice about Kimmie. Now I can have a cookie.

    • jwoolman says:

You’re not wrong. But she doesn’t have a rep as a diva at public events, so she at least knows when to rein it in. She’s also not a lush and rarely drinks alcohol.

Now I’ve said two nice things about Kimmie! Think I’ll have another cookie.

    • jwoolman says:

Snowflake- my theory is that Kim lost interest in Kris H in between bridal gown changes on her wedding day… Also that Kanye pointed out that if she weren’t married, they could get together because he was single, so she trotted off to file for divorce as fast as her high heels could take her. Didn’t bother to talk with her husband, I don’t think she even talked with her mother. They must have lost a lot of $$$ when the wedding extravaganza repeats zoomed downward in value because of her 72-day marriage. But Kim knew that Kanye could get her where she wanted to go while Kris H was just a regular guy she talked into thinking her stupid show would be good for his career while he couldn’t play basketball.

I also think she lied big time to Kris before the wedding about many things. He looked so baffled when she contradicted him on what he thought they had planned for their future. He was just a prop for her TV show, easily disposable.

  6. Julianna says:

That was cute, and her on the street bit was great. So many actors are painful to watch when they do those bits and have to think on their feet a little, even when they have the host with them doing all the heavy lifting, but she was awesome. I think she’d be really good in some dark comedies.

  7. JeanGray says:

My TV was on the channel after watching the ABC lineup and I watched the show and I was cringing. Some of it was cute but it started getting awkward quick and I found myself getting second hand embarrassment from how awful it turned and I shut it off. Part of it was seeing JLaw fan girl and ass-kiss the Kardashians and the other was just being annoyed by JLaw trying too hard as usual with her fart jokes and talking about being drunk all the time..

  8. Kezia says:

I just watched the whole video above and was charmed by them both in the interview even though I normally can’t stand them.

  9. Dissa says:

She was great! I continue to be a fan … Dunham lost me with the part in her book about her sister. I was always too old to be a Swift fan.

Dislike the Kartrashians though… too bad they couldn’t have had someone else be interviewed by JLaw. Like Letterman or something .. that dynamic is awesome.

  10. Kashmir says:

I know what hack Kim’s talking about🙃 I used it to make seem like my high school principle was calling my mom to tell her I was in school..I wasn’t..I made my sister’s boyfriend with a “professional voice” do it..my mom doesn’t still has no idea🙃

  11. poop says:

This was absolutely charming! No reason to hate J. Law for this.

  12. happy girl says:

I liked it, too. And didn’t think about the orange maniac for about 20 minutes. A gift.

  13. Harryg says:

    Can’t stand them.

  14. me says:

It was good but wish Kim had actually answered the questions instead of skirting around them. She was way too diplomatic.

  15. Talie says:

I thought she was one of the better hosts this week…but you can see how hard that job is! Jennifer was very good in her monologue and I did think the Kim interview was funny.

  16. Jane2222 says:

J-Law was a really excellent host. She has natural comic timing, and even though I can’t stand the Kardashians Jennifer made that interview work.

    • Sunglasses Aready says:

It was just some fun. It displays that Jennifer’s has natural comic timing and what a superfan she is of the K family

      • jenna says:

That’s what bugs me about people calling her fake. Like no one can turn on fakery as quickly as she does in this interview. She’s incredibly quick-witted, and her entire personality during this interview is everything she’s been supposedly “selling” through years of interviews. As much as it’s cool to hat her now, I believe she’s entirely authentic.

      • Julianna says:

Also, the people who call her fake are the same ones that claim she’s a lousy actress, but if her persona is an act then she’s seriously the best actress in the world. Not once has she ever shown any signs of having some other personality she’s keeping under wraps. If she’s putting on a show, it’s an amazing one.

      • KBB says:

I’ve never understood that. She’s gregarious. I’ve never known anyone capable of faking that, you just are or you aren’t.

    • lannisterforever says:

Yes, she’s really good at hosting!

    • Suzanne says:

She looked like she was reading off an auto cue

  17. Southern belle says:

I use to think she was awesome and be the celebrity I would want to be friends with if I ever became famous, but now…being a fan of the Kartrashians? No. I hate Kim with a passion and anyone who is fans of them makes me seriously side eye them.

  18. CynicalAnn says:

Kim’s butt when she’s walking in–oh dear god.

  19. Clare says:

Well, I mean, the Kardashians have built an entire empire out of being likeable to a certain demographic, so this does not surprise me. I mean, the oft asked question is – what is her talent? Well it’s THIS. She is likeable to a huge number of people. She can’t sing of dance or act or whatever, but she connects with people. shrug.

  20. KBB says:

I like Jennifer Lawrence. I think she’s funny. And I like that she isn’t changing her love for something so low brow even though she’s with Darren Aronofsky, who I imagine is super condescending about it.

  21. Veronica says:

Honestly, I can’t hate on her for this segment. She was charming and charismatic, especially in the street interview. It was a good showing all around.

  22. Miss V says:

I typically don’t care for J. Law, but I actually thought she did a good job. She is definitely a natural, funny conversationalist. I thought her fangirling was endearing. She was cute here.

  23. Lilly) says:

I watched on YouTube last night (early a.m.) when I couldn’t sleep. I loved it. Of course, I’ve always loved Jennifer despite detractors. Kim K I’ve avoided. But, it was sweet and I loved that Kim would not say bad things about the mother of her niece. Great TV and best to Jimmy Kimmel and family.

  24. BooRadley says:

those videos were super cute, now I wish I had watched JKL. yay for on demand, I’m gonna watch it tonight, while I sit home alone because my life is sad.

  25. monette says:

This was the first time I heard Kim speak. I’ve never watched the show, only saw her in photos.
I can’t believe I’m going to say this: for the first time I can see the appeal. She looks and acts like the perfect woman. She has enhanced, tweeked, shaved every imperfection and is a real live sex-doll.
Part of me wants to be her, the other part wants to F her.
Then I remember who and what she is and I go back to hating her.
But still, I really enjoyed this video.
    Shame.Shame.Shame.

  26. Ari says:

I loved every second of it
