Girl with 56 stars tattooed on her face admits she requested them

kimberlyvlaminck2

This morning I woke up and looked at my face in horror. There were deep grooves all over; it looked like I’d taken part in a cheap horror movie with a bad makeup budget. Turns out I just slept really awkwardly on my pillow. But I think I can almost feel Kimberley Vlaminck’s pain. Vlaminck is the 18-year-old girl who claimed she told a tattoo artist that she wanted three stars on her face. She then claimed she fell asleep while being inked, and woke up with an extra 53 stars in place. Considering how cranky I was just to see some deep faux-wrinkles show up unexpectedly on my face, I can only imagine a bunch of tattooed stars.

Not surprisingly, Kimberly’s admitted her suspicious story is complete bull, and she made it up when her father got mad at her.

Kimberley Vlaminck, the girl who claimed her face was tattooed with 56 stars while she slept, has admitted she made up the story. Ms Vlaminck, 18, had initially insisted she went into the tattoo parlour requesting three stars, but dozed off during the procedure and awoke in horror to find a veritable galaxy on her face. She then vowed to sue the tattoo artist, Rouslan Toumaniantz, for $20,000 for failing to understand her instructions.

“It is terrible for me,” she said last week… I cannot go out on to the street. I look like a freak.” But under a wave of cynicism from the public Ms Vlaminck has finally admitted she wanted all the stars and was “fully aware” of what Mr Toumaniantz was doing… “I asked for 56 stars and initially adored them,” she said. “But when my father saw them, he was furious. So I said I fell asleep and the that the tattooist mad made a mistake.”

Mr Toumaniantz had previously agreed to help pay for the tattoo removal saying: “Kimberley is unhappy and it is not my wish to have an unsatisfied client.” But according to the UK’s Daily Telegraph this offer has now been withdrawn, although Mr Toumaniantz concedes he will now get written consent from his clients.

[From LiveNews]

Obviously there were some substantial holes in Kimberly’s story from the beginning. The idea that she fell asleep while having her face tattooed is quite the stretch. I’ve never had any tattoos but from the stories I’ve heard, that’d be nearly impossible. She was also suing the tattoo artist because she communicated her instructions to him in her native French as well as English. He’s Romanian and said he understood, however she claimed he didn’t, and that’s how the mix up occurred. Obviously that’s all bull, but to think the guy was still willing to help pay for laser surgery is pretty amazing. Talk about customer service.

Obviously the tattoo artist is the only real victim here, but I can’t help feeling a little badly for Kimberly. This is the type of story where normally you’d just chastise the person for being so dumb. But Sky News interviewed her (clip below) and she does seem genuinely distraught and in pain. It’s true she brought it on herself, but when I think back on the stupid things I could have done at 18… I’m sure most of us are glad we don’t have permanent reminders of our poor decisions. Kimberly’s so young, and she’s going to have to look like this the rest of her life. Even if she gets laser surgery, it still leaves significant scars that’ll make her face look very unattractive. I’m sure that, although she said she originally thought it looked cool, she’s filled with regret now – and that’ll only grow with time.

    Hahahahahaha serves her right.

    What an eejit.

  2. Feebee says:

    No shit, Sherlock

  3. dude wtf says:

what was she thinking?? I mean seriously?? At least when she is an old granny they will look like sunspots. Really though….what the heck.

  4. Aspen says:

She’s 18. Yes, it’s her fault. Yes, she should have to work some menial job to pay for the laser removal herself. Yes, she was stupid.

But she’s 18. All 18 year-olds are idiots…no matter how smart they are. Any human being still young enough to utter the words, “Oh my God, my dad is going to KILL me,” is too young to be getting permanently altered on the face. Common sense would dictate that.

I would NEVER tattoo an 18 year-old on the face. That is a huge life alteration, and it’s one that I would never assist a person so young in making. Just sayin’

  5. Ling says:

It does kinda suck for her. It’s made international news and though we might all forget it, years from now the following conversation will take place:

You: Is that a star at your temple?

Other Person: Yeah, I had it done last week. What do you think?

You: It’s really cute. (obvious lie.) Classy, subtle. And you only got one… I think I remember a story about…

Other: A girl who got 56 stars on her face?

You: And claimed she hadn’t wanted them!?

Other: Omigod, I remember that! Duuude!

And thus, the memory of the foolish girl will live on forever.

(Was she speaking French in that video? I speak a bit of French. It didn’t sound like French.)

  6. Jazz says:

If someone wants to get tattooed on the face then fine, but serves her ass right for lying about it! hehe.

  7. BlueSkies says:

18 or 78, some people are just dumb. Her age is not an excuse in this situation. She is just dumb and if she lives long enough she’ll be a dumb old lady. Age does not bestow intelligence or wiseness in some people.

  8. Bellatrix says:

Ling: indeed, her native tongue is NOT French. She speaks Dutch as the upper half of Belgium does. And as she lives in Flemish territory (it was mentioned she is from Kortrijk, a city in the Flanders region), Flemish Dutch is her language, not French…
(and French is a latin language, just like Romanian: I speak both of these and it is impossible to mistake 3 in French for 56 in Romanian)

As I had said before in the previous post about this girl, it seemed like it was made up. The tattoo artist is established in one of the most expensive shopping streets of the city and has a great reputation. He deals with Flemish clients on daily basis. This seemed impossible to be a mistake!

  9. ~Kate~ says:

I agree with Blueskies, at 18 I would never have done anything so stupid as tattooing my face. At 18 she is an adult, and has to be responsible for her own actions. I did have the occasional fuckup, but noting as stupid as that and I always owned up to it, instead of trying to blame others and sue :s

  10. BW says:

She’s lucky the tattoo artist doesn’t sue her for slander. It’s nice that he took the high road and offered to help pay for removal. He’s probably benefitted from the publicity with her retraction of her lie.

  11. justathought says:

Sad story. We all do things that we regret in life…..but she will be reminded, in a ugly manner, everyday of her life.

  12. n says:

    that’s a lotta stars.

  13. texasmom says:

Laser treatments don’t leave scars, but they don’t always get the entire image out. Lasers will fade it but there might be shadowy images left. PLUS, it will take many laser treatments to maximum fade and they hurt like the dickens!! My older daughter has had about 30 laser treatments for a massive vascular lesion and I can promise this is one kid who will never get a tattoo!

  14. Annie says:

    No sympathy.

    Why?

Because, while everyone’s right, we’ve all done stupid shit and we all make mistakes, I don’t ever recall making my stupid mistake and then trying to SUE another person for it and pretty much potentially ruining their livelihood because I decided to act the fool.

She’s an idiot. Plain and simple. And she deserved it.

    She’s not 13, she’s 18.

  15. Bodhi says:

DUH!! Good grief, I don’t know how anyone could have possibly believed her in the 1st place! I feel awful for the tattooist!

  16. westindya says:

serves her right. she is grown and she wanted to do grown up things. well, all actions have consequences – good or bad. ridiculous!

  17. jaudicemachine says:

Freebee – That’s the first phrase that came to mind.

Hard to feel sorry for someone so stupid. I bet she didn’t even browze his portfolio because his work just looks really heavy-handed and amateur. I could understand if he was an apprentice, but even then he should have known his limitations and refused the sale.

Still, I question the integrity of an artist who’d tattoo anything on the face or hands of such a young client – particularly when this is their first piece of work.

I think the willingness to pay for removal is an indication of guilt – there’s a tacit agreement amongst most reputable artists that if a client is asking for something ridiculously stupid/life altering, you refuse them. (Many shops won’t let their artists ink anyone on the face – unless they are longtime friends/clients.)

Something obviously didn’t sit right with the artist, but at the end of the day, he still wanted to get paid. Very telling.

  18. dark says:

I just knew that was impossible for a tattoo artist to make such a huge mistake and for a person to fall asleep during a tatoo work. All i can say is that a fell sorry for her, cause she has to live with this bul…shtt for the rest of her life. I can imagine what she will feel when she looks at a mirror with 85 years old… Damn!!!

  19. Cletus says:

I dunno, I have friends who tattoo and if you come in wanting something retarded and you have the money you are not visibly impaired, AND you’re of age- they’ll stick you with whatever you want. That’s kind of how it works.

That girl is straight-up a dumbass, and she got what she paid for. Tough shit– next case.

  20. Sarah says:

No she’s not speaking French. I think she is speaking Flemish, it’s an odd language to listen to!

  21. confirmed says:

Are they going to ask her to refund the money she “earned” for those false interviews?! I hope someone sue her ars.

  22. natalie says:

    STUPID

JUST HER PARENTS BELIVED IN HER

  23. javelin says:

I think she looks kind of cute. At least when she goes for interviews they’ll remember her face.. heh.

  24. Mark says:

I’m old school and think all tattoos diminish a woman’s beauty. Having said that, I think she looks better than most tattoo victims. So cheer up, Kimberly, it could be worse!

  25. Asiont says:

poor tattooist, she could have broken his career and life

  26. viper says:

I have a friend who got a an arabic tattoo. He shows it to me THEN ASKS ME WHAT IT SAYS … there were two ways of looking at what it said 1. I am a donkey 2. I am a dumbass it took me everything I had to not laugh in his face but then I did. THEN I told him what it said …poor guy… serves him right though I told him tats are stupid and to have a tat in a language you dont even know is even dumber. This girl is no exception.

  27. fizXgirl314 says:

the guy is only abliging to pay for some of the removal cost becuase he’s on the media… this is better advertising than he could have hoped for… he must be loving it…

  28. bob lawblaw says:

    see, this is great.
This is in fer face (no pun intended)– just a colossal fuckup, that can only be fixed through insanely painful and long laser treatments. From now on, no matter what she wants to do, everyone around her will say: are you sure? remember when you thought 56 stars sounded cool?
She’ll never repeat that mistake, and hopefully will apply more patience in her future decision-making.

And in her ultimate defense, even if she does have scarring, at least she CAN laser that shit off, and mark it as a lesson learned.
You can’t laser off a kid or Herpes.

    Ask Paris which she’d rather have… 😉

  29. ziggybutterfly says:

I have total sympathy for this girl! When I was 24 I got a tattoo on my arm and woke up the next day hating it. I have since had it removed (a couple more laser visits and it will be gone) but back then I literally felt sick. Like one big wave of anxiety washing over you, and staying w/ you.

Obviously this girl lied b/c she fears her father’s wrath. She came clean. She is suffering and we should not ridicule her! The ppl. here saying she got what she deserved are screwed up.

The artist should never have tattooed her face, he is guilty for being a low class artist.

  30. Nony says:

The tattoo artist is established in one of the most expensive shopping streets of the city and has a great reputation.

He sounds like an unethical idiot. No artist I would trust my skin to would tattoo an 18 year old in the face. They would simply refuse because they do not do work they have reason to believe will be regretted later. They would insist on protecting a very young person against their own crappy decisions.

If she insisted, what he should have done was draw them on by sharpie, and suggest that she come back in 10 days if she still wanted the tattoo.

  31. j. ferber says:

You sound very sensible, Nony. I agree that is exactly what the tattoo artist should have done. I also don’t think the tattoos are terrible on her. I don’t see why they should “ruin” her life, even if she didn’t have them removed (though I’d bet the laser surgery will take a lot of it off). People can live with all sorts of things, and I don’t think people would shun her (though I would be taken aback if my doctor/lawyer/professor walked in like this). And yes, 18 year olds, though technically adults, are still foolish teenagers.

  32. stellapurdy says:

Viper – LOL! I love the idiots that get tattoos in a language they don’t understand. It just points out the fact they are ginormous jackasses. Especially the Irish guy that gets a tat in Chinese. Seriously, the IQ has to be hovering around freezing temperature.

  33. Shay says:

The owner seemed like a cool guy. He actually offered to pay half for the tats removed. She doesn’t deserve anything from him.

  34. Dani says:

Does no one think this girl was wasted?

  35. Trashaddict says:

Too bad Kelly Osbourne’s advice book hadn’t come out yet. Maybe if she’d read it, she wouldn’t be in this fix!
    Heeheehee.

  36. lisa says:

The tattoo artist should sue her for dragging his name through the mud for a while. She deserves it at this point. I have no sympathy for a girl who lies then sues someone over her own stupidity.

  37. lway says:

She fell asleep while being inked?

It’s one of the most painfull things i have ever had done to myself. I could barely hold my cigarette in my hand….!

    What a CHOP!

  38. jaudicemachine says:

Viper – That’s interesting. I have the opposite experience with my friends.

I know most artists need to eat, but there is a level of professionalism that would ethically prohibit an artist to ink a hardcore tattoo (anything on the face or hands) on a “virgin”. (Especially one so young.)

There’s a certain connotation and lifestyle that goes with highly visible ink, and most artists with integrity will tell someone to go somewhere else. I mean, if the client really wants it, they’ll find a way to get – just not at a reputable shop.

    – – –

Which explains the horrible quality of this dumb broad’s ink job.

I mean, the idea itself is offensive to the eyes – but the work is so heavy handed and bad. Really bad. How does he expect to get more work when his most controversial tattoo is so poorly executed.

I mean, it’s horrible work. I’d take one look at his portfolio and smirk, and move on to the next shop.

Irresponsibility on both sides of the tattoo gun.

  39. fabulous says:

I agree with previous comments – no respectable/ethical tattoist would tattoo such a young girl on the face. Recently I was thinking about getting one on the BACK of my neck and my tattoist refused and advised me to get it further down on my back. The reasoning? You don’t know how you will feel about it in a few years time.

  40. Lisa says:

When I was 19 I very seriously intended to get a dermal punch on my ears. I managed to find only one studio in the country that would do it, and they refused to perform the procedure on anyone under the age of 21. It annoyed me at the time, but now I’m 22 and the age limit makes perfect sense.

I think 18 is an appropriate age for getting tattoos and piercings – but the limit for more hardcore modifications – e.g. ones that can’t easily be hidden or removed – definitely ought to be 21.

  41. Magsy says:

    Stupid ass.

  42. Nick says:

The only person more stupid than this girl is the idiot that did them. Seriously what tattoo artist tattoos a 18 year old’s face with 3 let alone 56 stars.

Any tattoo artist with a brain would not have touched her – because this is the kind of crap that happens. Even worse he doesn’t get them to sign waivers.
