Keith Richards stabbed a table with his ‘trusty knife’ over a beef with Donald Trump

The Rolling Stones perform at Friends Arena

Everybody’s favorite grandpa Keith Richards has some thoughts about Donald Trump. Keith has actually known Trump for decades, but not in the sense of “hey, let’s catch up at that party.” Keith met Trump during Trump’s Atlantic City days, back in the 1980s. The Rolling Stones were on tour, like always, and they were set to perform at a Trump-owned property. Keep in mind: we’re talking about The Rolling G–damn Stones here, not Jimmy & the No-Name Band. People know who you’re talking about when you say “the Rolling Stones.” But Trump thought they would sell more tickets if he added HIS name to the promotion. Keith took issue with that.

Disliking Donald Trump is nothing new for Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards. In fact, the guitarist told the BBC that back in 1989, he was once so angry with the then-real estate mogul that he pulled out a knife and stabbed a table.

Richards told the BBC in a new interview that when Trump was promoting the Rolling Stones’ “Steel Wheels” tour dates in Atlantic City in 1989, the band arrived to one gig find it billed as “Donald Trump presents the Rolling Stones” — with the legendary band’s moniker in much smaller letters than Trump’s own name.

“I got out my trusty blade, stuck it in the table and said: ‘You have to get rid of this man!’ ” Richards told the BBC.

“Now America has to get rid of him,” Richards added. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

LOL at “Donald Trump presents the Rolling Stones.” That’s Trump’s version of celebrity branding. It would be like promoting a concert by saying “Jon Gosselin presents Pearl Jam.” One of these things is not like the other.

Also: It shouldn’t be surprising that Keith travels with a “trusty blade,” I guess. I mean, he’s Keith Richards. Of course he travels with a “trusty blade.” From the sound of it, he didn’t really threaten Trump with a knife though, it sounds like he threatened the promoter or whoever was managing the tour or something. It would be a better story, granted, if Keith had waltzed into Mar-a-Lago and started stabbing tables. Also: Keith lives in America full-time now, when he’s not on tour. He’s living in Trump’s America right now. He knows how f–king bad it is. America does need to get rid of the Cheeto.

Ha! I wonder if the manager or promoter “passed that along”. How do you pass along the drama of a rock legend being so pissed he stabs a table? Jesus.

And HOW FUCKING TACKY on those tickets. Dear god. Wonder if Stormy spanked him with those too.

Not just the Cheeto. Getting rid of just the Cheeto is thinking too small, and not just his ridiculously stupid criminal children or Pence. I want the misdeeds of the entire GOP exposed. I want their names in bold print with what they’ve done, not solely in regards to Russia, but in accepting money for their votes. What did Paul Ryan take, $500K from the Kochs? I want the full measure of the Kochs buying universities made public. I want it made plain that the unions were attacked with Koch money. I want it clear to the rubes that FOX literally shares Russian talking points. I want the finder of the Federalist exposed. I want the Judicial Action nuts exposed.

And I want the Fairness Doctrine back. I want FOX to be required to air in the chyron every five minutes that this is for entertainment purposes only and should not be trusted as news. I want every single station to air before every show a screen that says who owns them and how much input they have.

I want gerrymandering crushed. I want the Voting Rights Act back since CLEARLY the African American vote is still getting suppressed more than any other. I want paper ballots, hand counted. I want Diebold and the other right wing owned voting machine makers hauled in front of congress.

I want my fellow white Christian women to WAKE UP. The GOP has no respect for you. You will get thrown under the bus as fast as anyone. I frequently put my feet in my mouth on here and look like a crap ally, and maybe I am, but it’s not for lack of trying to get aware and get educated.

Love everything you’ve written Betsy. Nice to know you exist in this awkward time of the loss of common sense by the masses. Great job! Bravo👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I know you can’t see me but I’m also standing up while applauding your comments. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Yes a thousand times! This should be required reading for all, Betsy! Hear hear!

      + infinity.

Excellent post and totally agree. The only thing I would add is that all media must abide by that Fairness Doctrine. CNN is as much “news” as Fox only on the other side of the spectrum. A true objective news source is sorely missing in America today.

Um… I kind of want you to be president right now, frankly.

I’m not a Christian, and depending on how you choose to live your beliefs, we might disagree.

But you know what? I can DEAL with disagreement between honest people.

      You have MY sword, Betsy!

    • GrouchyOldBroad says:

PS.. it boggles me that in 2018, in “the land of the free,” our electoral process is so archaic, opaque, and susceptible to corruption/sabotage. Do you really KNOW who you voted for? Not which button you pushed, or box you checked – I mean, what got recorded, transmitted and ultimately counted. There’s more transparency and security in a webchat with Verizon customer service.

Why not make it so any of us can download a spreadsheet of ALL the votes cast in our precinct, look up our confidential voterID number/PIN/whatev, SEE what was recorded, verify the math, and match it to the totals being read on the news? Individual assurance plus crowd-sourced election-monitoring, every time.

It’s not rocket science… and we HAVE rocket scientists! This is COUNTING. There is literally only one reason for keeping such a critical process so murky and byzantine, and it ain’t tradition. It’s so there’s room to manipulate.

I’ve always loved Keith Richards attitude about life and this article just reaffirms my feelings for Richards. Hey, he could see through Jagger’s egotistical behavior and wasn’t afraid to confront him so I’m glad to see that dreadful Donnie is on his his shit list too. Yes, I know Keith and mick go back and forth in getting along, but at least we’ve gotten some great music from their differences. Can’t say one positive thing the guy pretending to be president has accomplished for all of mankind.

Marianne Faithful said years ago that the greatest love of Mick Jagger’s life has always been Keith.

Jagger has told this story about Trump pulling this stunt and Keith’s reaction too and that Trump wanted to come out on stage and introduce the band. That didn’t happen and the band refused to meet with him backstage too. Trump still plays there songs at his rallies even after they told him to stop.

      • kate says:

Trump does not understand the word “no”, whether it’s coming from musicicans or women.

I find Keith Richards fascinating, hilarious, & immensely entertaining. I absolutely loved his autobiography.–It made me laugh out loud more than any other book I’ve read. The relationship between Keith & Mick is so complicated & interesting to me. I wonder, when Faithfull made that remark, did she mean “love” in just a platonic way?

And on another topic, I absolutely second Betsy’s awesome remarks above.^^

I’m feeling plenty stabby myself about the monstous babyfists, so while this is a funny story and post, I just can’t laugh about it right now.

I’m a republican but I voted for Obama twice and for Hilary and I am voting Democrat in every category across the board I can in June and November.
The shitty GOP HAS to go
