John Edwards’ former aid, alleged “father” of Edwards’ love child, to write tell all

So far former Presidential hopeful John Edwards has avoided federal prosecution for allegedly funneling campaign money to his mistress, Rielle Hunter, and a former campaign aid, Andrew Young, who claimed that Hunter’s baby was his. The National Enquirer, along with breaking this story, uncovered an elaborate scheme where Edwards set up Hunter, his love child, and Young and his family in a $5.6 million mansion in Santa Barbara paid for by a wealthy contributor. The Enquirer reported that Young was being paid up to $20k a month from a supporter along with being set up with his family in that posh free mansion with Hunter. Hunter was allegedly being paid $15k a month off he books by another Edwards supporter. Edwards admitted the affair and claimed the baby is not his due to “timing”. He has not taken a paternity test and Hunter is said to want one now that the money has dried up. We haven’t heard much about that in a while, though.

While doing press for her book this spring, Edwards’ long-suffering cancer-striken wife, Elizabeth, dismissed questions about her husband using campaign finances illegally. She said “it’s just not possible” because campaign finances are all public record. Elizabeth has publicly stood by her husband after his affair was made public by the National Enquirer and eventually the rest of the press. (According to the Enquirer, she kicked him out of bed after she found out about the affair, though and he’s now living in a condo nearby.)

This week The Enquirer reports that Edwards’ affair and gross misuse of campaign funds might not fade away so easily. Andrew Young, who is no longer on Edwards’ payroll, is writing a tell all. Many expect him to reveal how Edwards paid him off to claim he was the father of Rielle’s baby:

A year and a half after The Enquirer exposed Andrew Young’s role in the coverup of John Edwards’ affair and love child, Young is finally coming clean in a bombshell expose.

The book could provide the evidence needed for a federal grand jury investigating Edwards to indict the North Carolina politician on violations of election laws, say sources.

Young has claimed he is the father of the baby born to Rielle Hunter – Edwards’ ex-mistress. But investigators have been looking into whether Edwards funneled hush money to both Rielle and Young – who is married with three children.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, July 13, 2009]

They go on to say that The Daily Beast broke the news of Young’s book. It will indeed be a tell-all, and he’s currently shopping it around trying to get a buyer.

The Enquirer is also reporting on that Young just met with the grand jury investigating Edwards’ campaign finances. They say that it’s assumed he’s going to tell them everything, and that “insiders believe he is… testifying against his former boss in exchange for immunity.”

He may get immunity from prosecution along with a hefty advance and the proceeds from this book. This story is such juicy gossip, and as much as it pains me to see a politician I used to admire cheating on his wife, lying and stealing money I sure can’t stop reading about it. I know I would buy this book and so would countless other people. What surprises me is that Rielle Hunter has yet to grant an interview or pen her own tell-all. Maybe she’s classier than we assume, or maybe Edwards is still slipping her some on the side.

  1. hmm says:

Just get the paternity test already.

  2. Mme X says:

    oh dear

  3. John says:

John Edwards is the scum of the earth and wouldn’t have shit if he hadn’t chased ambulances. His god complex is disgusting. He was only a Senator for one term just like unexperienced Obama.

  4. Annie says:

Oh I know, because Republicans have much better representatives like Governor Mark Sanford.

  5. John says:

Annie, Mark Sanford’s wife already knew about his affair BEFORE the story broke and isn’t dying of cancer. He also doesnt have a love child he is denying so to compare the Sanford and Edwards is ignorant.

  6. nana says:

The reason Rielle Hunter is not demanding a paternity test is because she’s being paid to keep her mouth shut. It’s not rocket science.

  7. annie says:

these are’nt repub./demo. issues, these are character issues.

  8. Kaiser says:

I tend to think John Edwards, Eliot Spitzer, John Ensign, Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, Rudy Guiliani, Bill Clinton, John McCain, Newt Gringrich and others are all equally gross for their affairs.

  9. Bodhi says:

No it isn’t John. I live in SC & I promise you that Sanford is just as big of a sleazeball as John Edwards

  10. Annie says:

    Ignorant?

To behave as if it’s not something MEN do in general is ignorant. I was merely pointing out how this is something that everyone can be capable of.

Are you seriously defending Mark Sanford? Honestly? You’re condemning Edwards and yet turning around and okaying Sanford’s infidelity because at least his wife doesn’t have cancer?

A cheater is a cheater is a cheater.

  11. Annie says:

And before someone gets all uppity. Women are capable too. Everyone is.

However, it’s been the trend that men in power are far more likely to commit adultery than women.

  12. tasteT says:

Annie, I agree with everything that you have said..but I knew someone would get their undies in a bunch.

You’re entitled to your statement and I agree 100%

There are political fixers that are working in OT, there will be alot more uncovered..WATCH

  13. CeeJay says:

“…it’s been the trend that men in power are far more likely to commit adultery than women.”

Or is it that men in power fall victim to the entitlement syndrome, get sloppy and get caught?

  14. Rosanna says:

Can’t stand Elizabeth Edwards, and have sympathy for both JE and MS. I wish the politics in the US weren’t *that* myopic to sanction the end of an era for JE and MS. I believe they both could do a lot of good if people would stop minding their sexual business.

  15. John says:

I was NOT giving Sanford a pass. All spouses who cheat are scumbags but trying to attack Republicans whenever John Edward’s affair is mentioned is just bogus. People have been cheaters in both parties. BUT, there was a wife battling cancer and a baby involved in the Edwards affair. I would guess that 75% of all elected political official are cheating on their spouses as we speak. They all have god complexes. Some affairs come out and some never do.

  16. jess says:

Newt cheated on his wife as she battled cancer. McCain cheated on his disabled wife. There are plenty of scumbags for both parties. What I find so fascinating in this case is the Andrew Young angle. I can’t wait for his book!

  17. Annie says:

Please do not act as if you didn’t bring up political parties first, I believe if you will scroll up, you made a jab at Obama.

So I just wanted to point out that people are guilty by being guilty, not by political party.

  18. Kate says:

FYI guys we are at war in multiple countries n risk nuclear annhialation by others. Our economy is down the s*itter, and pedophiles run rampant. Perspective?

  19. Kath Jaynes says:

UGH I’m so sick of hearing about this. Enough airing dirty laundry in public. I think all parties to this sordid affair should keep their mouths shut. It’s all so bleak it makes me sick. The people who suffer are the kids, Edwards’ and the little girl who Rielle gave birth to. McGreevy’s kids, Stanford’s kids, Craig’s kids… The parents are messed up and hypocrites. Touting your family on the campaign trail, espousing ‘family values’, its all really hypocritical when you spend your weekends screwing the babysitter. It’s all sad and sick and really effing bleak.

  20. Andy says:

Your personal life is not out of bounds when you enter public life. This is known in advance. Play with fire and you will get burned. Case in point but not the only one. I think what the real problem is EGO. They think they can do what they want and get away with it….
