LeAnn Rimes: marriages & affairs should be left “in God’s hands”

In the wake of LeAnn Rimes’ separation from Dean Sheremet, it seems like everything should be coming up roses. She’s now openly able to see her lover Eddie Cibrian, who just split from his wife. She doesn’t have to pretend anymore with Dean – who maybe, possibly, probably beeps on every gaydar, or maybe they just had a really great understanding about other men – for both of them. Even though Dean’s public statement (via Twitter) was a little sad (“Thanks to everyone for all the support through a very difficult time!”), it’s the dawn of a new day for LeAnn. But that’s not the way she sees it. LeAnn was performing at the Deer Valley Music Festival – without her wedding ring – and she gave a loaded introduction to one of her songs:

Performing at the Deer Valley Music Festival in Utah, Rimes spoke to concert goers about the difficulties of being in a relationship.

“You know, I think that you will all really be able to relate to this next song in your lives. You probably know it’s inevitable that in a relationship, sometimes you will have your heart broken at some point,” she said. “Sometimes, you might say that you can’t do anything and sometimes, you want revenge. Sometimes, you say, ‘You’re not worth it.’ But sometimes, you don’t, and that’s when you leave it in God’s hands and know that he will take care of it.”

After reports surfaced that the singer was allegedly having an affair with her Northern Lights costar Eddie Cibrian, a source close to Rimes and Sheremet tells PEOPLE that their relationship may have simply run its course.

“They were so young when they got married, she was 19, he was 21,” the source says. “Maybe they just grew up and they weren’t in the same place anymore. I don’t think that’s unusual considering how young they were when they got married, and the business they’re in.”

Adds a friend of the couple: “They were so close, I believe that however the marriage works out, they will always be the best of friends.”

[From People]

It’s surprising to me how LeAnn hasn’t taken much of a hit for this. Neither has Eddie Cibrian, for that matter. Every tabloid has some sweet little “I’m praying for them” or “maybe they’ll get back together” quotes from LeAnn and Dean’s unnamed friends. And now LeAnn is alluding to her broken heart and puttin’ things in “God’s hands”. Blech. Why play the goody-goody? I don’t get it.

Why aren’t more of the tabloids really pressing the whole “For goodness sake, an adulterous married man is going to run off with his adulterous married mistress” thing? Maybe Eddie and LeAnn aren’t really going to run off together – obviously, their sexual chemistry is hot enough to keep the affair going, but Eddie comes off as extremely sleazy now. LeAnn does too… so maybe they’re meant for each other.

These two embody exactly what is wrong with our society today – they do deserve each other and their spouses deserve much better than them!

  2. Jazz says:

When did she turn into Sienna Miller??

  3. Ursula says:

She has always been ungly on the outside, I thought she would get prettier as she grew up but she only started looking like an ugly teenage boy. No one likes and adulterer. Hope Karma comes back to bite her.

What no one mentions is the money angle. Lee Ann must be loaded since she’s been a country star since childhood. She’s not great-looking, either. I think this Cibriani guy wants a sugar mommy (okay, she’s a young sugar mommy) so he’ll always be rolling it no matter what his minor celebrity career brings.

  5. Maddie says:

I hope they know that GOD’s HAND does not like divorce or ADULTERY.

Maybe those two should read the BIBLE.

  6. Brandy says:

I’m not a religious person, but I can’t stand it when people use god’s name and don’t take personal responsibility for their actions and expect him to do all the work. If I was god, I’d be peeved.

  7. Alice says:

Truthfully, this is so sad. At least there aren’t kids involved.

  8. The Old KC says:

Kaiser, I find it sad that the general tone of your article suggests that the press isn’t handling this negatively or snarkily enough. Then I smacked myself in the forehead and reminded myself I was reading Celebitchy and that’s what we’re all here for. Seriously though, does it count for anything if the people involved are at all repentant and thoughtful about what transpired? I know kids were involved and that’s sad – but I just tend to give LeAnn the benefit of the doubt that there was no maliciousness involved. Maybe I’m just a PR sucker.

  9. princess pee says:

KC, where did you read about repentance? All I’ve seen is some denials and then some additional footage of ongoing adultery. Then some separations, and a statement that this is all in ‘God’s Hands’. Where’s the regret?

In the quote, I guess she’s talking about Dean getting his heart broken? And about Eddie’s wife when she says that you can’t do anything about it? Because I don’t know how she thinks this stuff relates to HER, the cheating wife.

just because eddie got dumped by his wife, and leann left her husband doesn’t mean leann didn’t get her heart broken. my guess is that eddie isn’t planning on being monogamous with her and she probably knows it. so she hurt and humiliated someone she cared enough about to marry, just so she could have a tawdry little affair with a slimey womanizer. wouldn’t leave you feeling too good.

    Well said, Brandy!

Adultery, betrayal, unfaithfulness cause only heartache and pain.

  12. westindya says:

maybe it’s not a big deal because no one cares.

The Bible also says “let he who is without sin cast the first stone” No one knows what goes on in a marriage except those in it. I get a bit sick of peoples’ self-righteous tone. Interpersonal relationships are complicated and can get very fraught.

The Bible also says menstruating women are ‘unclean’ and advocates the man being the ‘head of the household’…dubious sentiments indeed…

  14. BlueSkies says:

Drm, tabernac! You just nailed it. Women who quote the Bible are doing us all an injustice.

Hey Gaydar or not he is cute and can live with me. Why go to NY Dean when you can have me?
