Madonna/Esther writes “How My Life Changed” op-ed for Israeli newspaper

Madonna wrote an op-ed for the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot, published today. From what I gather, Madge (Hebrew name: Esther) wrote the piece in English, and it was then translated into Hebrew for publication. The piece is called “How My Life Changed” and it’s all about Esther’s religious awakening 14 years ago, around the time she was pregnant with Lourdes (Hebrew name: unknown). It’s during that time that Madge/Esther got really involved with Kabbalah and started telling everyone she was Jewish now. She’s made several trips (or “pilgrimages”) to Israel, and has plans to bring her “Sticky & Sweet” tour to the holy land.

Lots of media sources are calling the op-ed a full-fledged “article”, but it just seems like a personal essay, albeit one published on the front page of a prominent Israeli daily:

MADONNA is now a newspaper columnist.

In a front-page bylined article in Israel’s Yediot Ahronot, the Material Mom says her life was changed by Jewish mystic Eitan Yardeni when she was pregnant with Lourdes 14 years ago.

“I suddenly realized that I spent my entire life worrying only about myself and soon I’ll be responsible for the life of another person,” she writes. “I started seeing that being rich and famous is not the end of the road, but only the beginning.”

I suppose we’re not going to get the full translation of the piece for a little while, but I can guess what it says. Stuff about how Madonna became a better person when she embraced her faith, how it influences her work, how it influences her family. Here’s the thing – I do believe Madge became a better, more fulfilled person with motherhood. But I still think, in her mind, everything is all about her. And how fulfilled are you as a person of humble, simple faith if you’re getting massive amounts of plastic surgery and working out your veiny, gristly man-arms five hours a day?

I am so tired of her acting like she is such a great person and how she is so special and enlightened. If that were true, she would be living a modest life, doing good for others and be out of the spotlight.

Saying that you are something and actually BEING that special something are entirely two distinctly different things. You can say it all you want, but that does not make it so.

She is Madonna, selfish and self-absorbed as always.

I’m surprised that the paper printed it, is it a respected paper in Israel? Because it’s not like you just decide one day that you want to be Jewish and then you are. Conversion is a process. I’ve also read that the kaballah that the stars follow isn’t really the kaballah that Jewish scholars have been studying for hundreds of years, and that some aspects of it (like the kaballah water that is supposed to cure cancer) are just cons. I would just think that people in Israel would be offended by someone dabbling in their religion/identity/culture.

What about her mandate that opening acts aren’t allowed to speak/make eye contact with her? That’s several kinds of degolasse.

I think she sees Kabbalah as proof that she is a creature of destiny, that the gates of heaven smile only on her, and that she possesses magical powers, of which wealth and fame are but two.

I think she and Angelina need to take a page from Emma Thompson

Dear Madonna: Blah, blah, blah, bbblah, blah, blah…blah. You are a shallow, vapid waste of skin and you really still don’t get it. And the worst part is, you think you do.

I’ll admit it… I do love her music.

That being said.. her as a person has become such a ‘holier than thou’ train wreck’ in the works. People adopt children all the time… not everyone has the money to manipulate a government into getting to adopt though.. and twice at that. Does she really think she is a positive role-model showing her children that they have a special pass due to money and fame?

Her attitude towards others is completely ridiculous and not religious by all means. What has she really done to better everyone? One of the wealthiest women in the world… it’s a shame, she has the potential.

Ugh. I liked Madonna SO much when I was younger! She was always vain and bitchy, but at least she used to be fun. She does seem very holier than thou any more. Hope Jolie doesn’t go the same way.

    her stomach is really scary.

  12. karen says:

Well said Firestarter! Actions speak louder than words. If she weren’t such an asshole who treated people badly, maybe more of her family would be speaking to her, her brother wouldn’t have written a tell-all book about her selfish behavior, her relationships wouldn’t all fail, and former lovers wouldn’t be selling her trashy love letters in an auction.

Leave it to Madonna to tell Jews how to best understand their own religion and how important she is to it.

She was a downtown ny sl*t in the 80s who finally got her record played.
Now, the biggest narcissist on the planet. Oh my is correct. She needs 365 t-shirts that say Pay Attention To Me.

I disagree with the comment that reads ACTIONS speak louder than words, that shes got her ex lover selling off her love letters, How is that have anything to do with her behavior? Those are not her actions, but those of someone else. And why doesnt she speak with her brother on a regular basis? Its called real life. Everyone’s family has problems, and is dysfunctional. Shes not different than you or I. I am sure you dont get along with everyone in your family either, so get off your high horse and finally, Madonna does take responsibility for her actions, she talks the talk and walks the walk, thats why I love her so.
