Are Michelle Obama’s shorts inappropriate?

michelleobamashorts
Michelle Obama’s fashion is being dissected once again. I don’t even know how it began. Perhaps with her black-and-red Narciso Rodriguez “hell dress” on election night, as President-elect Obama spoke on a clear Chicago night? Then it was her beautiful pale yellow Isabel Toledo dress and coat for the inauguration, and the over-analyzed white Jason Wu dress for the inaugural parties. After her husband officially came into office, there was something of a backlash, with prominent fashion critics criticizing Michelle’s right to bare arms– in winter! Around the same time, Oscar de la Renta got snippy about Michelle’s fashion choices – namely, her lack of desire to promote older labels (like his) and instead give mountains of publicity to up-and-coming designers (like Jason Wu).

The latest scandal is about shorts. Namely, how short is too short? And, for that matter, should the first lady of the United States even be wearing shorts? I’m absolutely serious that this is now a “thing”. People are discussing it:

So here we are again. The biggest scandal to hit the White House: How much skin is really in?

Hours upon hours have been spent talking about what a first lady should or should not wear. First, it was whether or not she had the right to “bare arms,” and now, pictures of Michelle wearing “short” shorts while on holiday with her family during yesterday’s trip to the Grand Canyon are sparking a similar debate. While most women would agree that shorts (at any length) are often tough to pull off, I think we should line up with hands raised to offer her a high five. And since she is gifted with those long legs, I beg the question — wouldn’t all shorts be “short” on her?

So to be “short” and to the point (pun intended), what do you think about Michelle dressing relaxed like the rest of us? Is it OK for her to be casual and comfortable with her body? Or do you feel she should be more conservative, offering a polished reserved example at all times?

[From MSNBC]

The shorts Michelle wore just look like normal shorts that any woman aged 15 to 50 would wear without a second thought. She probably got them at J.Crew or The Gap. So what’s the controversy? That she’s a forty-something woman wearing shorts when it’s really friggin’ hot outside? That she was great gams? Seriously, she does have beautiful legs. I wish I had Michelle’s legs. As for the whole argument about whether it’s unbecoming for a first lady to wear shorts – meh. I could make a better argument that our Secretary of State should cut it out with the schoolgirl headbands. What do you think?

Personally, I think she looks fine. I, too, would kill to have legs like that!! Somehow, those nay-sayers need to get a grip on what’s TRULY important…like ousting Jon Gosselin from any more media attention! There, I’ve said it……………. 😉

  2. jessiee says:

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that this even merits discussion. Not on this site … I thought this when I saw the Today show covering it this morning, with actual panelists they brought in to discuss it. Makes me think there are much more worthy things to discuss on the “news.” It was hot. She wore shorts. End of story. Gah.

  3. sheila says:

The haters need to get a grip. She is a mother of 2 girls on a family vacation to the Grand Canyon… what was she supposed to wear? A gown? A pillbox hat? Jimmy Choos? For heaven’s sake, I love having a First Lady who is active with her family and dresses like everyone else in America (with half a brain) would dress while on vacation….

  4. Cinderella says:

    Nothing wrong at all.

  5. bros says:

what would people have wanted her to be wearing? some sort of designer skirt suit? she’s at the freaking grand canyon hiking around on vacation-her clothes are totally appropriate. if she had been wearing something stupidly formal, she would have taken heat for that too. I hate that we reduce accomplished smart women with so much going on to their fashion choices. its just a sad statement on our society.

  6. justathought says:

she looks great but will skin cancer be covered on the new Obama care?!

  7. YT says:

Not inappropriate. With two children and her hectic schedule she should wear casual clothes whenever she wishes when not doing “government business”. She is young enough and fit enough to wear the shorts well.

  8. Praise St. Angie! says:

    THOSE are “short” shorts?

uh…no. they are, as Kaiser said, the kind you would find at the Gap or Old Navy. Cotton khaki-type material.

to me she just looks like a Mom wearing something comfortable yet appropriate for where she is. (and her calves look like she’s a runner!)

  9. anonymous says:

I really dont’ think Michelle Obama has been the picture of high fashion…but I LIKE that she isn’t spending White House money on thousand-dollar dresses in this recession. Secondly, with these shorts, where’s the controversy? She was visiting the Grand Canyon in August – why on Earth would she or anybody NOT wear shorts? She’s not greeting heads of state in this outfit, she’s clearly taking a trip to one of America’s national parks. Totally appropriate.

  10. wow says:

The problem some of her critics will have is the fact that she can wear those normal looking shorts and look great doing it. If she were spending crazy amounts on clothing all the time in this economy, then that would be a legitimate concern. But her wearing shorts on a hot day doing a lot of walking? That’s just nit-picking with a dash of “I wish I could pull that off”.

  11. TaylorB says:

She looks great and is dressed just fine for the outing. As others have said can you imagine trying to navigate the Grand Canyon tour, with two kids, while wearing pumps and a skirt? And those shorts are not too short, especially considering how fit her legs are, no visible hail damage on those thighs.

  12. Diane says:

We finally have a president’s wife who doesn’t appear to have a full time make-up artist and hairdresser = )

It’s friggin hot in Arizona in August. She is dressed appropriate to weather and location.

  13. maddie says:

Good Lord people we have a recession going on people tossed out of their houses, jobs being cut, and they want to talk about the President’s wife fashion choices.

Is it a wonder why America is in the crapper. Democrats shouting down the Republicans, Republicans shouting downs the Democrats, meanwhile the average Americans are losing everything they worked for it fking crazy.

  14. Ursula says:

I love shots myself, people should stop complaining about banal issues.

  15. Megan says:

WTH? WHAT IS SHE SUPPOSED TO WEAR TO THE GRAND CANYON? A SUIT W/ HEELS? GIVE ME A BREAK… WHY DO PPL GIVE A DAMN WHAT THE FIRST LADY WEARS ANYWAY?

  16. Beth says:

Talk about much ado about nothing. She’s on vacation in the Grand Canyon not meeting the President of China in the White House.

  17. Guest says:

    absolutely appropriate…

  18. Embee says:

She is appropriately dressed for the occasion and, like Sheila said, she is setting a WONDERFUL example of how to be active as a family, regardless of your schedule.

I like this woman more every time one of these “scandals” pops up. I think she is a phenomenal example of modern femininity. And I didn’t vote for her husband.

  19. Kendra says:

Michelle Obama is a grown damn woman and she should be able to wear whatever she wants. There are ten year old girls in school showing much more skin. It’s 2009, as long as her booty isn’t hanging out, let the woman be comfortable in a decent pair of shorts.

  20. TaylorB says:

    Maddie,

I totally get what you are saying, but to be fair this is a celebrity gossip site. Sometimes, especially in difficult times, people need a form of escapism and for some folks, myself included, a well written, funny, trashy gossip site fills that need. If you are looking for a think tank site that discusses foreign and domestic policy, economic turmoil, etc. try either A.E.I., PEW Research Center or the Brookings Institute (depending on your political proclivity) I suspect they are not discussing her choice of clothing, especially considering the way some of those egg heads dress 😉

  21. kate says:

seems fine to me, but no way in hell does she have nice legs…she looks like she’s 70 years old! and what’s up with that kids hair? yeash

  22. maddie, please says:

    get over yourself, my lord

  23. Shelly says:

totally inappropriate for the FLOTUS – IF there were dignataries waiting for them when they got off the plane. if they’re going straight to do vacation stuff, who cares what she’s wearing.

  24. nancypants says:

Geez people, lighten up. At least her ARMS are covered!

  25. NJMDPS says:

Do not really care for her but she looks fine. This is stupid.

  26. Kayleigh says:

My dad wears shorter shorts than that. Give me a break.

  27. ElizabethM says:

I, for one, am shocked (!!!) at her wearing shorts. She looks comfortable, happy and ready for anything. What kind of message is that sending the young, impressionable girls of our country? How are they supposed to develop any level of self esteem if she doesn’t show them that appearance is much more important than living a real life?

Hopefully she’ll upskirt us soon and things will be back to normal.

    🙂

  28. Roma says:

I have no idea how those could be considered short shorts. And Shelly nailed it – it’s not like their are dignitaries waiting. I like the office rule of dressing: dresses and skirts need to be 2 inches lower than your finger tips. I’m tall and have long legs so I take some heat sometimes about “short” outfits, but as long as it’s 2 inches lower, I’m good.

  29. ! says:

I think this is another attempt to take a well educated woman and simply reduce her to her body parts, over and over and over again. She is MORE than her appearance and what designer she chooses to wear. I wish people would treat her as such.

  30. ! says:

Also, I find it repulsive that not a word is said about her own daughter’s short shorts. I mean, isn’t that supposed to be a bigger concern?

I think the media just wants to hate Michelle for not being their laptop. Oscar de la Renta is a WHINER. Michelle isn’t a puppet to promote your agenda, she’s a human being.

  31. maddie says:

    @ TaylorB

I’m not taking about the comments here, but the Talking heads on TV “reporting” crap like this when there are more important things to report instead of what the First Lady is wearing period.

I think the comment hear are spot on, she is on vacation and relaxing so not sure what the deal is with this last time it was her bare less arms that people were in a uproar about.

  32. the original kate says:

i love how that’s what people focus on in this administration: the clothes, the dog, the choice of schools, what obama eats, etc. unlike bush, where nobody gave a shit what the wife wore because we were too busy having our civil rights stripped away. quite telling, really.

  33. TaylorB says:

    Maddie,

Sorry I misunderstood, but after re-reading your comment I get exactly what you meant, mea culpa. I do know what you mean, reading it here is one thing but hearing about it on cable and network news is pretty freakin odd. I guess with 24 hour news cycle they really have to make any little thing ‘news’. Too bad they don’t spend some of that time covering international news a bit more in depth, instead of this kind of fluff that belongs on E!

  34. Lila says:

She’s a mom. She dresses like a mom. She wearing mom shorts. IDK if there is a more appropriate outfit for touring a massive fissure of mountainous rock. Who wears business suits and pumps to the Grand Canyon?

  35. vicsmith says:

I do agree, she’s on vacation, so her shorts are appropriate. More than one president has been photographed wearing shorts while jogging and exercising. I don’t agree with “don’t they have anything better to write about”. If all TV shows and blogs wrote about were serious issues, instead of some of these personal opinion pieces about the lives of public figures, most would be out of business and we would be bored. And have nothing to rail against. Oh, the indignity. She’s got a right to wear her shorts and they’ve got a right to start a dialogue. And she did wear a pair of $600 tennis shoes to feed the homeless.

And I agree with Kate. She looks like crap and hunched over like a senior citizen.

  36. jsmith says:

Um, but was she still wearing those oh-so-chic $500 sneakers that she wore while commiserating with the poor people at the food bank?

  37. Hieronymus Grex says:

Are you GD kidding me? 🙄 This has got to be a new low point for discussion.

  38. icky says:

she is the first lady she can wear some damn shorts if she wants to! It’s not like she’s got on daisy dukes..wth is wrong with people?

  39. Annie says:

All I know is that “shorts” that size…would be considered too long for me. HAH.

  40. ! says:

I meant lapdog in my comment, not laptop, I really did, lol. Can you tell I have my fried laptop hard drive on the brain? lol

  41. asiont says:

I just cannot see what’s so classy about her, she looks ridiculous for a first lady.

  42. L says:

She looks fine and appropriate. Why should she have to second guess her comfort, especially on vacation? People need to get a life.

  43. TaylorB says:

“…she looks ridiculous for a first lady.”

Out of curiosity, how exactly does she look ridiculous? Now if she was touring the Grand Canyon, with her children, dressed like Posh Spice I would agree with that assertion.

  44. Just a Poster says:

I am not really a fan of politics at the moment (both sides) however…

I don’t understand what the broohaha is over these shorts.

She looks like any Mom with kids on vacation. She isn’t wearing a “I saw the THING” tee shirt (Desert Rats will totally get that LOL) and sporting a pair of flip flops.

  45. For Sooth? says:

I don’t get the intense focus. She’s on a family vacation. Back off.

Also, Laura Bush didn’t make inappropriate choices (ok, maybe color choices once in a while, but rarely misstepped on appropriateness) that’s why she was not discussed, just to be fair people.

I also am not impressed with Michelle’s legs. Her arms are her best feature but if she ever bares them again while with the Queen of England I will be embarrassed as a US citizen as I’m sure that she was briefed ahead of time as to appropriate attire. I think her judgement was clouded by our media drooling over her arms, and as a newbie she thought she could get away with showing them off, again. Not so madam. It appeared uncouth and came off as a slight toward the queen. You came off as clueless and tacky.

  46. Miguel says:

  47. maritza says:

I see nothing inappropriate because she is traveling and its summer. I love the fact that even though she is the first lady she is so down to earth.

  48. TaylorB says:

“I don’t understand what the broohaha is over these shorts.”

I think it boils down to pure partisan Veruca Salt behaviour. Some folks will b*tch about the administration (whichever one happens to be in office) and anyone associated with it no matter what they do, don’t do, wear, don’t wear, etc. they shut down their rational mind, allow their inner toddler to take over and go into histrionics over any little thing, like the FLOTUS’ shorts. Sometimes it is amusing to watch, sometimes sad, and sometimes rather disturbing.

  49. Just a Poster says:

    http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2023

for those who want to know what the “thing” is. Honest not a naughty site!

I will admit I am not happy with this administration however, bigger fish to fry than shortsgate 😉

  50. MeowBea says:

@ Miguel Huh? why write in Spanish? Weird

Nevertheless this discussion is Stupid SOOOO she wore shorts 🙄 Who TF Cares!!

  51. DK says:

I love Michelle, but I think her shorts could have been longer. The other problem is the way she’s wearing a tank with an open shirt. If her shirt was a bit more loose and covered up, it would have made up for the shorts.
She is not a regular woman, a regular mom, or a regular tourist. She’s the first lady. She is treated differently and she needs to act differently from the average person. I think she could have been a bit more covered up. As in, longer shorts, and a looser shirt.

  52. TaylorB says:

“I love Michelle, but I think her shorts could have been longer”

    DK,

I wonder if Kaiser has a point that most shorts will look shorter on her because she is so tall? Being a relatively short person myself the ones she is wearing would probably look like capris on me 😉

  53. girl says:

I don’t really care how she dresses. And for the record, I frequent a number of conservative leaning political websites and this is the first mention of this I have heard.

I do think it is a bit informal, considering she is coming off of AF-1 (I don’t know if it is considered AF-1 of the CinC is not on it, I thought I read somewhere that the call letters are AF-1 for any airplane (not helicopter) that the CinC is aboard).

The only rumblings I have heard of her choice of attire on the websites I have read (and admittedly the PARTS of those websites I have read) were of her choice to wear $350 tennis shoes to an event that addressed poverty and hunger. I think there was a similar hubbub later on when she wore a clutch that costed several thousand dollars to a similar function.

I am not saying I necessarily have a problem with those things or don’t. That is just what I remember reading.

  54. DK says:

TaylorB: You have a point. The shorts do look shorter on her than they would otherwise probably be. I just wish her tank wasn’t so open and flimsy. But then maybe I’m being a prude.

  55. fizXgirl314 says:

damn, 54 posts on the topic of the first lady wearing shorts… and all of them stating that it’s totally appropriate… i think this horse has been beaten to death at this point… it’s not even worth discussing… this is all done by the media to generate controversy and somehow sell shit to us… we’re better off just ignoring it and maybe, hopefully, somehow, someday, smart women will not be reduced down to the sum of their clothing *eyeroll*

  56. Feebee says:

1 – they’re not short shorts, they’re reagular everyday shorts, lots of us agree.

    2 – she’s on VACATION. Step off.

  57. hiatus says:

Do I think her outfit or the fact that she wore shorts was inappropriate? No.

Do I think her outfit looked good or was flattering in any way? No.

She has nice legs, esp for 40-ish mother of two but she looks like she is going out to wash her car. I have no problem with a FL wearing shorts, having her hair pulled back and wearing tennis shoes. I just don’t like THOSE shorts, THOSE tennis shoes or the fact that she has her hair pulled back in THAT way.

But it kills me how these shows like “Today” want to (waste) spend their time saying “who cares” if she wears shorts “we have better things to talk about”. Um, so I guess there is a band of militia in their studio with guns trained on them forcing them to talk about her shorts. Gimme a break :-/

  58. drm says:

Are some Americans insane??? The woman looks great, great figure, sensible, flattering outfit what is the bloody problem????

  59. mockingbird says:

Totally inappropriate for a First Lady to wear shorts (any length) in public. She is not just any mom, she is FL Mom.
And, yes, she DOES have a full-time hair and make-up artist and a full-time stylist (but you’d never know it). She is has never been fashionable and all of her fashion choices have been poor.

  60. rop says:

I think that the real problem that everyone has is that it is a class issue. She and her husband are both from working class families and were working class themselves. Our country has a long line of elitist who have been in office. I think it is more of a shock to the group of people that truly have old stinky money.

  61. janet says:

Dont care much for Michelle, she is not pretty and does not have a great body. She needs to dress better as a first lady – whom is she trying to impress?? her dress choices leave a lot to be desired. Can someone offer her a crush course on appearance…pulizz!

  62. Kachus says:

Funny you know, up here in Canada we (like most Americans) actually care about what our LEADER is doing (though I can’t remember anyone ever going crazy over what he was wearing *lol*).As for the concerns over whether your FL should wear shorts or show her arm…good grief, what do you want her to be…a Taliban woman??? I thought that America supported the rights of women! You’re finally so lucky to have a FL who is secure enough person to walk to the beat of her own drum. Good for her! And what if she has or doesn’t have good looking legs…again…GOOD GRIEF, she’s just a little girl who grew up, married a man, had a family and is now the wife of your President (who by the way is ALSO a real person just like you). For those of you who are actually INTERESTED in bantering and arguing over such silly topics, I can only say this…HOW DULL YOUR OWN LIVES MUST BE TO BE SO INTERESTED IN BASHING SOMEONE ELSES! Thumbs up to all of you who have genuine concerns about your country and the rest of the world.

  63. Aspen says:

“We finally have a president’s wife who doesn’t appear to have a full time make-up artist and hairdresser = )”

That’s ridiculous. She has an entourage, including personal fashion/makeup/hair people. They should be fired for choosing shorts with that cut for her. They are unflattering.

Aside from the unflattering aspect of the shorts, I have no issue with them. She doesn’t look provocative or inappropriate in any way, and I agree that shorts were appropriate for the occasion.

    I don’t give a rat’s behind about Michelle’s clothing choices.

What I don’t like and often find inappropriate is the way she allows her adolescent daughter to dress. That child needs to be dressed more modestly…pretty routinely.

…and I would say that about ANY girl I saw that age dressed in short shorts and/or inappropriately-cut shirts on a regular basis. My politics have nothing to do with my attitude on this.

  64. Aspen says:

…my life isn’t boring, Kachus. I enjoy looking at pictures and commenting on them here. It is one of thousands of interests, both small and large, that I indulge in during the course of my daily life.

  65. ummwhat says:

ummmm is she wearing a bra?????????

  66. Anastasia says:

What WOULD be ridiculous is if she got off AF1 at the Grand Canyon in August wearing heels and some fancy outfit.

This? Is not ridiculous given the fact that she’s at the Grand Canyon, in August, on a FAMILY vacation.

Most ridiculous “issue” I’ve ever seen.

  67. tasteT says:

This is stupid, she is dressed fine.

what was agaisnt the law was Mama Bush and those flowered dresses and pearls
    24/7.

Mrs. O is young and alive. she does not need to look like she belongs in a museum.

  68. PJ says:

Is it just me or has their daughter Malia grown about a foot since the inauguration? That girl looks only a little bit shorter than Michelle, who is pretty tall. She’s really growing up fast.

  69. Aspie says:

@ Janet: are you jealous much or insecure about your own “looks” and sense of “fashion”?

Michelle is an intelligent, beautiful, classy and accomplished wife and mother.

So why don’t you back off!

  70. jd says:

I have similar legs to hers. Similar type of thunder thighs. So maybe I have “nice” legs after all.

  71. daniel says:

wow and this is “news” or interesting because why?…..lol…….

  72. DL says:

I wish she would show more taste and decorum. Sometimes she does, I’ve seen her look really beautiful. She just needs to keep in mind that every time she steps outside photos will be taken. The worst picture was her leaning over the railing at the Grand Canyon – serious cellulite. I’m tired of seeing her bra straps too. Her stylist should be fired. Those pictures go around the world and diminish the role of first lady. I think her daughters are really pretty, but there again, at their age and considering the cameras all the time they need to be dressed a little more decently.

  73. blind item reader says:

Who cares? I don’t even know what my Prime Minister’s wife looks like.

  74. Shanny says:

yeah not spending whitehouse money on clothes, just spending $70,000 of tax payer money for “datenight” flying to NYC. I am still poed about that.
First poster you would really kill to have legs like that?? I would cry if my legs were that thick in the thigh and upper knee area, not a look I would kill for by any means.
All that aside, I think she can wear shorts if she wants to but she is not a stylke icon like many people are pretending she is.

  75. Snoopchew says:

She was in the desert of Arizona. Desert rats (so they are called) do not emphasize on clothing etiquette. They wear what is cool and comfortable.
She could have done better with the hair though. If she wears her hair like that, she needs to also wear a hat.
I have a house in Arizona and that is the only reason I comment on this.

  76. TaylorB says:

I gather that most people do not understand that while first families do have certain needs met mostly for security reasons and to not make our FF look like total morons, they have to pay out of pocket for personal needs; family food, dinners out for ‘date night’ (while the travel was covered by AF1 to ensure the security of the POTUS) personal grooming, clothing, schools, etc.

ALL first families do that, the Obamas, Bush(s), Reagans, Clintons, Carters, and so on. She does have advisors/assistants, but NOT a team of tax payer funded makeup/hair folks. While many of their clothes are gifts by designers (as they have been for decades) who do so to get their name out and associated with the first family, they do in fact purchase all of their personal items themselves, all first families do. I know it sounds fun to say Bush/Obama/Clinton/Bush etc. wasted OUR tax dollars on this and that, but at least know of what you speak before you make a fool out of yourselves and irresponsibly misinform other people with that nonsense.

  77. Snoopchew says:

A hat for a little chic and alot of shade. If only she had worn a hat.

  78. sharon says:

Regardless of how her looks look (heavy), she should, out of respect for the office, worn at least bermuda shorts. But Michelle thinks she is above everyone else and only thinks about herself.
Wonder what she will wear on her next vacation in the $50,000 Hamptons estate costing us taxpayers………

  79. Lola says:

    No. Not inappropriate.

  80. TaylorB says:

“Regardless of how her looks look (heavy), she should, out of respect for the office, worn at least bermuda shorts. But Michelle thinks she is above everyone else and only thinks about herself.
Wonder what she will wear on her next vacation in the $50,000 Hamptons estate costing us taxpayers………”

The Hamptons trip, other than the transport and security, is paid for by the first family, NOT taxpayer dollars. ALL personal vacations are, with ALL first families, paid for by the family, always have been. Why do you feel the need to make things up? The Bush family took many vacations, on their own dime as well, did you have a problem with that?

You suggest she show ‘respect’ for the office? Perhaps you should show some as well and educate yourself before you make uninfomed comments.

  81. Annie says:

You suggest she show ‘respect’ for the office? Perhaps you should show some as well and educate yourself before you make uninfomed comments.

    Well said TaylorB.

And I can’t believe this topic’s still going. It’s just shorts…. And they weren’t even booty shorts. (which I totally support…LOL)

  82. ronnie says:

Uh…when I read that question, I thought she must be wearing hotpants or something. I mean, come on! What in the world could be inappropriate about her outfit here? This is considered shocking by some people in the States?

  83. McLaren says:

they are not inappropiate, nor too short, but she does look a little like Brittany Spears on an outing without the latte or fruit smoothie

  84. Sandi H says:

This is crazy, those shorts are half way down to her knee. They are long to me even for her age. If they look could, wear them as short as you want. No cellulite, no varicose veins, they look wonderful, I think she could have gone shorter.

  85. leeanne says:

I hate to ask you this, but is she wearing a bra…. I think she needs to remember she is the first lady, and needs to dress that way. She can’t have it both ways, all the perks and none of the hassels.

  86. Lyla says:

wow. the fact that ANYONE is concerned because she is wearing shorts is ridiculous.

  87. JoJo says:

Gimme a break, leave the poor woman alone! We as a society don’t have more pressing issues to be worried about?

  88. Magsy says:

She can wear whatever she wants. Hilary Clinton never showed any leg like that.

If I were the First Lady I wouldn’t wear shorts to come out of a plane when I knew photogs were going to be around snapping pics. Personally, I would always want to look at least a little professional in public.

If a paparazzi stole a pic of me actually on vacation, for instance, hiking at the Grand Canyon in “mom shorts,” I guess that’s another story. But this doesn’t look very dignified.

I love Michelle btw. I just wouldn’t dress like that myself in her position. At the least, I would go with some dressy Bermudas and a crisp sleeveless blouse. 🙂

I’m so sick of these hypercritical statements saying how “bad” she looks.

SHE DOESN’T OWE YOU HER APPEARANCE

It was 100 degrees, she was on vacation!! Get a grip – there is nothing wrong with what she wore. They were shorts you could wear with a church group outing. She’s a beautiful lady (and I didn’t vote for her husband, mind you), so leave her alone.
What I hate is the 400 women who wear string bikinis to the beach. Eeww.

No! She is absolutly fine! leave her alone!

    She looks like the maid.

My only question is what if the Air Force personal that received her and Airforce 2 were in fatigues and T-Shirts. How many people would say that the military was disrespecting her. Its hot they are in full uniform. Navy blue no less. If she were getting out of a car to hike or site see, I’m OK. But there is a respect of the office. I did not like GW getting off in his Cowboy shirts and I do not think it is appropriate for any PLOTUS or FLOTUS. I think it disrespects the office. If she flew commercial, I also do not have an issue with it.

I think what the whole story missed was the fact that she stepped off of Air Force One looking like that. I mean, obviously they had a hotel room. She couldn’t have stepped off nicely dressed, then changed in the room for their trip to the Grand Canyon????

And they pay for it personally???? Just exactly how much do you think they paid??? That jet burns fuel at about $11,000 an hour….a little more than that….and you good and well that they didn’t pay for all of it. SOOOOOOOO…..don’t get all self-righteous in your defense of them. Why didn’t Barry wear shorts??? Why isn’t he dressed casual? Because he’s the President and he has an image to uphold??? HA!!!!!!!!
