Megan Fox shines, Jenny Slate drops F-bomb on SNL premiere

Call me crazy, but I thought Megan Fox did a really great job hosting Saturday Night Live. She was obviously at her best when she was given a ditzy or dumb character, which she was in most of the sketches. I know, I know. I kind of hate the girl for being so dumb and nasty in interviews, but when she’s reading someone else’s lines, she’s actually quite funny. My favorites were the stewardess sketch, the live-chat hotline sketch (I laughed out loud when she said “…and David Duchovny.”) and the “Burning Bedsheets” sex-video sketch with Kenan Thompson, where Megan had a hilarious turn as a playful hooker. Sigh. I’m not her fangirl now or anything, but I’ll give her a break until she says or does something else really dumb. Which will probably be this week.

While Megan should be reaping the rewards of a job well done, a new SNL cast member has kind of stolen Megan’s thunder, and not in a good way. Jenny Slate is one of two new cast members who replaced the ousted Casey Wilson and Michaela Watkins, and Jenny screwed up big time on the premiere show. Jenny dropped the f-bomb! Shocking, because none of us have ever heard the f-bomb before, right? My virgin ears! No, seriously, people are freaking out about this:

It was a freakin’ foul-up. A brand-new “Saturday Night Live” cast member dropped the f-bomb during the show’s live season premiere featuring Megan Fox and U2.

Comedian Jenny Slate let slip the mother of all swear words in a biker chic talk show skit that was already generously laced with “freakin’s” and “frickin’s.”

“You know what? You freakin’ just threw an ashtray full of butts at my head,” said Slate, before she got a little too carried away with her tough-girl character. “You know what? You stood up for yourself, and I f—– love you for that.”

Slate puffed her cheeks and puckered her lips in horror after the slip, but co-star Kristen Wiig didn’t miss a beat.

There was no immediate comment from Slate or SNL, but at the end of the show, Slate got a protective hug from head SNL writer Seth Meyers.

[From the NY Daily News]

Yeah, SNL will probably have to pay a hefty fine, but it wasn’t like she dropped the f-bomb during an 8 o’clock sitcom. She dropped it in one of the last sketches of the night, and the sketch wasn’t even funny. Don’t most people switch SNL off after Weekend Update? I know I do. I can’t even remember the last time I watched a whole SNL episode. And I won’t start now, even if the f-bombs flow like wine.

The clips below from SNL will only play for US visitors. We’re sorry about that!

Did we watch the same episode of SNL? I unfortunately watched the whole thing as it was the season opener so I kept waiting for it to get funny – and it did not. I thought Megan tanked; yes, the Burning Bedsheets sketch was funny but that was Kenan carrying it. I was surprised by how awful it was when they had 4 months to write it… I think they should have gone with a stronger “actor/actress” to open.

  2. bros says:

    I agree Roma,

she wasnt terrible, but the episode was pretty much a dud for a season premiere, aside from the gaddhafi thing-fred armisen is genius when it comes to having to mutter in a pretend other language. other than that, it was kind of a snoozefest.

  3. Ash says:

eh, well based on these skits, she did as well as anyone else would. I didn’t think any of these were funny at all. SNL in general isn’t funny at all, anymore. She only did with what was written for her. I thought she did just fine with the circumstances.

  4. viper says:

yyyyyyyyeah she wasnt the one who shined on SNL at all lol. The F bomb stole the show completely. Megan looked completely snooze worthy and the majority of te time I was cringing. Not SNL’s best show to date. Not because it was Fox on there but because it looks like they’re really running out of material. The fact that teh Fbomb stole the show only proves that.

BTW anybody else notice how megan is sporting a new mole on her upper lip? What a loser, I mean she really wants to look like a dead celebrity. So sad.

  5. Dan says:

am i strange that megan fox reminds me a little of Faruza Balk in those videos?

  6. Firestarter says:

I read on several sites that the show bombed and Megan Fox was terrible. Many said the only interesting thing about her performances were the wigs she wore.

SNL has been over for YEARS! NBC needs to stick a fork in that show, because it is done!

    LO!L@firestarters comment

I am in complete agreement with that. LOL! My roomates boyfriend wanted us to change the channel and we ended up watching Anchorman….easily the best 97 min of my life!

  8. Trillion says:

Viper: Anchorman is pure genius. Especially when watched after another SNL fail.

SNL is at most mildly amusing now. I didn’t think this episode was all that great for a season opener, and Megan was nothing spectacular. She looked really pretty, but that’s about all she can do anyway.
I felt so bad for Jenny Slate! First episode and that happens, and you could tell as soon as it was out of her mouth, she knew it. The skit was not at all funny, but as soon as they kept saying frickin’, I knew someone was going to slip up, and sure enough, she did.

I watched a couple of sketches and Megan wasn’t good. Sometimes you can tell that she was thinking what her lines were. It didn’t help that the writing wasn’t very good. The f-bomb is being overhyped, especially considering the context. That could have happened to anyone.

Ya, for f*** sake leave the poor SNL newbie alone. I wish our society could pull the puritanical stick out just a little.

Of course, now I’m conflicted for sounding too vulgar. What was I just saying? Oh ya…

  12. Hieronymus Grex says:

Yeah, she’s hot- so what !! Anything MF touches now turns to crap. Jennifer’s Body tanked. 5 million after a 20 million dollar investment. She’s fading fast.

CB- Someone else posted this exact post word-for-word without giving you any credit. Are you aware?

As far as season premieres go, it wasn’t that great.

I mean. She essentially just played herself in all the sketches. Her whole persona was the hot ditzy girl.

I mean, when Justin Timberlake did SNL, no one (except me!) thought he’d be any funny, but he did all sorts of great skits and very different personas. He didn’t play like a bastardization of himself like Megan did. Meh.

I’ll give it to her, she did do better than I expected. But considering my expectations of her are always quite low…that’s not saying much.

  15. Ana says:

Ugh. I think the only great host as of late is Justin. He’s hilarious.

  16. la chica says:

i thought that Megan did a very good job with the material she was given. her acting was fine. the writing was hit or miss for all of the performers, not just Fox. my fave moment was Brian Austin Green’s appearance. loved it.

  17. Ana says:

If they wanted comedy they should have given her some shake-a-speare and told her to try for an Oscar.

  18. JuniperGreen says:

Megan Fox looked very pretty before the plastic surgery and now? Ugh…too plastic looking, in my opinion. Then toss in “annoying” and “bad actress” and “tries too hard” there ya have it! I really thought she was quite awful on SNL, but in her defense the sketches were just terrible. They just sort of trail off, you know? No ending. It’s been this way for years, but the writing seems much worse recently.

And I’m SO glad someone else noticed the Marilyn Monroe mole she’s suddenly got going on….

  19. toto says:

she remind me of amanda peet but amanda more naturaly and her acting is more the lovely wildness
