Whitney Houston’s wardrobe malfunction, confusion on ‘X-Factor’

I don’t even know what to say about this mess. I want to believe Whitney Houston is clean and sober and getting her career back together. She’s still got the voice – sort of. She’s still a diva. But if she has a few more disastrous television appearances, people are going to think that she’s still on the pipe.

Here’s what went down: Whitney performed on the British reality television show ‘X Factor’ Saturday night. Everyone is talking about the performance because she had some kind of “wardrobe malfunction”. A little more than two minutes into singing “Million Dollar Bill” the one back strap comes undone (or simply busted) on Whitney’s dress. The strap looked to be hanging on for dear life, because that thing was cinched much too tightly around Whitney’s bust. Anyway, she noticed it a few seconds later, and seems to give a “What the hell?” look to a producer or stage manager. Then she continues singing.

Here’s the thing: even without the “wardrobe malfunction” I’m sure this performance would be disseminated harshly. Whitney is not at her best. She seemed to be missing whole verses, missing cues, and missing her voice during some parts. Plus, the song really isn’t that great. Whitney gets better at the end, though. Maybe I’m being too harsh – but I don’t think it was a good performance.

After the song was over, Whitney told the audience and host Dermot O’Leary “I sang myself out of my clothes.” After that, it kind of went off the rails. O’Leary asks Whitney when her album comes out, and Whitney gave such a convoluted answer, I don’t even know if there will be an album release at all. Whitney says something like “The album? It should release this weekend… this week some time…I’ll be back in April!” O’Leary corrects her gently, saying “The album comes out tomorrow.” Oh, Whitney. Get it together, girl.

saw this and really thought she was out of it when she was being interviewed, that or she is just to far gone from the years of drug abuse. She mumbled and kept looking at the floor, was really quite sad.

Eh, maybe she was just nervous. She hasn’t been in the performing mode for years and after what she has been through, I imagine that it is un-nerving to get back into the swing of things, especially when she seems to have major self esteem issues.

I wouldn’t say she’s hitting the crackpipe. In the past, she’d be a sweaty, jittery mess during her performances, but that wasn’t the case this time.

She actually sounded much better than her morning show appearances last month.

If anything, those extra high heels and too long gown could have been disastrous. Her stylist needs to put her in sexy clothes that she doesn’t have to “manage” while onstage.

If anything, she seemed a little tired and out of breath, but that could have been jet lag or weed. Just trying to see the good in this because I think there is hope. She’s come so far.

No idea if she is still on the pipe but that song is awful and the other songs I’ve listen to so far aren’t any better. I hate that she greeted the host so haughtily. The mumble that followed doesn’t bother me as much.

She is a shadow of the former Whitney. Her singing is weak at best. I don’t recall if she ever danced much at her performances in the past, but she doesn’t even attempt any dance moves, she just stands there like she’s too old for that or something. Hard to tell if she’s still using, but it does seem like she could be on something. Her loopiness at the end with the host is suspect.

The perfomance was fine IMO. Typical Whitney, her voice was strong. The interview was messy yes.

But if Robbie Williams gets labeled `exited´ for a complete mess of a perfomance and interview we can let this slide.

Whitney was never a dancer. But her voice was so great, that her fans didn’t care.

It was uncomfortable to watch. I live in London so I watch this show every week.Whitney was HIGH. She did not see and use the camera’s. It was a poor performance. Her voice is gone. She could not sing the mid-high notes. I hate the million dollar baby song. Whitney should get her money back from Alica Keys. Whitney needs a song that will use her CURRENT voice skills. So, why she cant get that song is beyond me. Whitney can have a good career if she has the same managers as Britney. Great Dancers and Great Technology to hide her poor voice. Her dress was too long. I thought she will fall at one point. She was a mess. Then Cheryl Cole came on and was luke warm. However, her sexy clothing helped but she game a poor performance too…especially in comparison to many of the contestants. I think that at one stage Whitney may have asked Dermot, the Host to do her up…but the camera’s cut to someone else.

lol…I have read some comments especially to those who say her performance is fine. I have seen Whitney LIVE and she is unmatched. This performance on X FACTORS was soo bad…i rather watch Micheal Jackson rehearsal movies…b/c you can clearly hear him signing LIVE. Whitney had a backing track which did most of the work. Anyway, keep buy Whitney tix and CD’s, I really do not want to see her homeless

I think the assessment was a little harsh. Yes, her voice is gone but she was handling what was a too long dress much too well to have been on anything. The wardrobe malfunction was totally the wardrobe person’s fault (its not like she dressed herself). I think she no longer has the stamina she had and yes I think she probably killed a few brain cells but otherwise for the new her-the performance was great. I enjoyed it overall.

the whole dress was wrong… tooo tight at the bust, which is probably why the strap let go, but the length? wtf??? she had to carry it around the whole time. I think, other than that, she looks and sounds GREAT!

i dunno, i thought the strap breaking was no big deal – it happens and it’s not like her dress was about to fall off. also, i think her voice has definitely changed, but she still has a great voice. i think she is taking it a little easy on herself with these initial comeback performances, with the backing tracks and such – given all that she’s been through, and the fact that this is someone, among all the cracked-out celebs, who actually has *real talent*, she deserves a little breathing room to get the performance back fully. and i thought the interview was no big deal -so she wasnt sure of the exact date – big deal.

I hope she is pregnent. She is really to big for the dress and the pleats on that belly dont help. She seems to be just collecting a check on her stardom and not really into her work anymore

any “stuff” that she’s on is probably prescribed meds from a doc.

something to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms, along with an anti-anxiety drug, is my guess.

I didn’t think it was any big deal about her strap coming loose. She played it off. Her voice sounds fine, especially given that she has been through so much. As for being caught off guard at the end with eh question of her album (CD), I think she answered that question just fine! So glad she’s back!

She has not sung live for a number of years now, it will take a bit of time for her to get back to where she was before the BBY( Bobby Brown Years). As for her not being able to dance, has anyone seen Cher in concert? She is not known for her dancing

First all if you don’t like the song to begin with then turn the channel !! It’s that simple.. turn the channel .. I doubt Whitney was there in your home making you keep it on that channel.
I think her performance was great !! If she was high she would have been sweating profusely (we’ve seen that before) and a lot more out of it ! Why is it that so many male bands and vocalist’s who abuse drugs are praised but when it’s a woman they are degraded and run into the ground.
If you watch her past interviews she usually does think about what she’s going to say before she say’s it – that’s what any smart artist would do. When asked about the album I even had to think a second because I’m so used to hearing “CD” now. Anyone that knows anything about singing and voice knows that a womans voice changes and get’s deeper around the age of 40 and they have to find way’s to work around it (and that’s quoting a famous record producer). They have to have a lot of humidity e.g. Mariah and Celine always have humifier’s around. Emotions can effect their voice e.g. Mariah singing at Michael Jackson’s memorial.
And last but not least she did great in spite of the clothing malfunction and the dress that was 5 inches to long that she had to carry around so she wouldn’t trip on it all the while wearing high heals, she kept the show going and finished it with great finesse ! I don’t know who’s in charge of wardobe but they really got it wrong and should be looking for a new career !!!! It was a fun song and she wanted to have fun with it. She shouldn’t have had to deal with that dress !!

yes she looked like she was on drugs judging by her responses. She could barely string a sentence together. It was embarassing. I can’t belive some people did not notice this. Either she was on drugs/drink or she has had far too much of both in the past and is now not able to function normally!
