John Stamos admits being drunk in 2007 TV appearance

John Stamos Drunk Down Under – Watch more Funny Videos

Back in the summer of 2007, John Stamos went on Australian television and generally made a complete ass of himself. He appeared inebriated and totally out of it, but pulled a Paula Abdul and denied it was anything other than prescription meds. He claimed it was the evil combination of Ambien, jet lag, and not enough sleep. John stumbled around, and read the hosts’ lines off the teleprompter while making lewd gestures at her. Lovely behavior, to be sure. Of course, none of it was his fault, he was just dumb and took too much Ambien, right? Not so much. Now John admits he was drunk as a skunk.

John Stamos has come clean about his outrageous appearance on an Australian talk show in 2007: He was totally trashed.

The actor was Down Under to promote ER when he slurred his way through a morning TV show, wandering around the set, reading host Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s lines from the teleprompter and making lewd gestures in front of her.

Although he apologized for his behavior at the time, blaming it on jet lag and sleeping pills, John, 46, confesses to The Advocate magazine, “I’ll be honest: When I went on that morning show, I was drunk.

“Yes, I was on sleeping pills and I was jet-lagged, but I was also just plastered. And I never said I wasn’t, but that whole Warner Bros. publicity machine got involved and said, ‘Just say he was jet-lagged.’

“I said, ‘No, tell ’em the truth! I was f****** drunk in Australia. Big deal.’”

[From OK!]

Interestingly, John seems either to have a very poor memory or some problems with lying. When he said, “And I never said I wasn’t [drunk],” that is untrue. He told TVGuide.com: “‘I was not drinking. I did not drink either morning. I do not have an alcohol problem. I am not David Hasselhoff. This is not a pattern.’” Whether or not Warner Brothers told him to say that is irrelevant: he told OK! he never said otherwise when he did. He also dragged David Hasselhoff into it, which was totally unnecessary. The Hoff has some serious drinking issues, but by most accounts he’s always working on them. Sometimes he successes and sometimes he fails, but I think people are generally rooting for him. I feel strangely protective of the Hoff. Stamos bringing up Hasselhoff’s name like that was basically him saying “I’m not some drunk lush like you.” Well, maybe he is and maybe he isn’t. He also said he wasn’t drunk at all, and that turned out not to be true.

Is that Gina Gershon with him?

Stamos started becoming irrelevant (or more irrelevant) when he and Rebecca got divorced. Must be hard to get press when basically all you’ve done is Uncle Jessie and General Hospital.

  2. LolaBella says:

Damn, Uncle Jesse is still HAWT!!!

Not for nothing, but a few years ago a few of my colleagues and I were flying to Tokyo and the stewards kept plying us with Mimosas and let me tell you, champagne and Melatonin do not mix! Add the jet-lag and that was the last time I have ever had alcohol before or during flight!

I could totally buy that the studio told him to lie, but there was no need for him to bring the Hoff’s name into his initial denial spiel.

Ha, I feel strangely protective of Stamos.

Honestly, I cannot tell you why. I will be a little apologist about it: he made the Hasselhoff comment back in 2007, when that infamous drunk-eating-of-a-hamburger tape came out. It wasn’t a general Hoff-bash, see, just a specific reference point.

    Just, *sniff* LEAVE STAMOS ALONE!!!

Good move, John. Smart. If he doesn’t admit to being drunk, people in HW and fans would think he had a drug or mental problem. This is the best PR move I’ve seen in along time. Richard Heene needs to hire Stamos’ PR gal.

  5. Gina says:

Who cares if he was whatever – HE IS HOT!!!

  6. Praise St. Angie! says:

    yes, that’s Gina Gershon.

I think he’s one of those guys that actually got HOTTER as he got older.

I though Uncle Jesse was a big cheeseball, but the elder John Stamos is quite a hottie.

(I’ve heard him on Howard Stern quite a few times, and he’s sounds like he’s quite a fun person, too.)

the way he’s sitting in this video KILLS me

  8. crash2GO2 says:

I can’t bear to watch the video – maybe later. I love John – how could he have done this?? Sleeping pills and alcohol when you know you have a show to do – that is a problem. Just pony up and admit it sweetie.

Jaybird! You are one of my favorite people on CB but “sometimes he successes and sometimes he fails” succeeds babe not successes. Personally I am kinda ho-hum about The Stamos and I saw that interview, he was clearly drunk!

  10. Beth says:

Why is this news? It happened more than two years ago. Did anybody even care then?

  11. miss bitch says:

sometimes he “successes” – improper usage, honey. Gimme your address so I can send you a dictionary.

  12. loldongs says:

Oh my god, John Stamos is officially awesome.

  13. Camille says:

Meh. I still love him. He was one of my first celeb crushes way back when. lol

  14. obkenobe says:

John Stamos should date Jennifer Aniston, they would make a hot couple!

  15. Lantana says:

I was thinking he should marry Kate Gosselin and they could have a reality show. Maybe a couple guys could move in. Mary Kate and Ashley could babysit sometimes. It’s a producer’s dream show.

  16. Firestarter says:

Gee Grammar police, give it a rest. It was obviously an error and not out of being unaware of the proper usage.

On Topic: I think Stamos is MUCH hotter now than he ever was as both Blacie and Uncle Jesse. He is LOADED cash wise. A very wise investor and manager of his money. Romajin (sp? don’t want to get in trouble!) was a fool to dum phim for that brain dead lunk, Jerry O’Connell!
