  9. I followed Penn’s articles in the Chronicle and they were very well written and believe it or not, he came across very likeable and humble. I don’t really give a shit about Fidel Castro but I look forward to reading the interview.

  11. @meowmeow - you wish he would go on… go on where? to cuba? go on a cruise? go on talking?

@Eden - if you think Sean Penn is so disgusting, why would you wish to send him to such a beautiful place? like it or not, cuba is a gorgeous tropical country with sandy beaches, and a rich cultural history. doesn’t sound like much of a punishment.

sean penn may get up to some questionable antics in his personal life, but his political views are usually followed by quite salient and intelligent arguments.

the united states is the only country in the world with a trade embargo against cuba, only american citizens aren’t allowed entry into cuba without specific visas and requirements. what’s the common denominator here? the united states - or the REST OF THE WORLD!?

vietnam and china are communist countries - are they also ‘communist motherfu*kers’ that americans refuse to visit? no. now for the few americans who insist that ignorance is bliss - it’s time to catch up with the rest of the world.

  12. I see my comment is awaiting moderation - understandably, I suppose it may be inflammatory. I don’t mean to be ‘anti-american’, just hoping to point out that not every country who disagrees with US foreign policy is ‘evil’.

Unlike many celebrities, Sean Penn does have some interesting and educated things to say sometimes, and his interview with Castro could be intriguing.

Better to wait and see how it transpires, rather than dismiss the interview before it even happens.

    that’s all! :)

  13. The silly, pointless, ancient US embargo prob hurts cuban human beings more than Castro’s gov’t does.

  14. Sean Penn…Danny Glover…Oliver Stone….and even Juanes….should all be happy to have the right to go interview who they wish or perform where ever they want….something people living in Cuba don’t have. If Cuban citizens complain and hold demonstrations in the streets of Cuba, they get attacked by civilian-clothed government officials.

As far as the embargo, I would lift it….that way the Cuban Government doesn’t keep using that excuse for the country’s pathetic situation. Cuba is a business run by the Castro circle…and it’s citizens are employees paid a monthly salary comparable to a pair of sneakers….including doctors, lawyers, etc.

So, anyone who says Cuba is not as bad as many say it is….I invite them to live there for a couple of years….not in nice hotels or visiting nice beaches…but live as Cubans do….so then they’ll learn how things really are there…including all of the Hollywood/Music industry visitors to Cuba mentioned above who all return to their mansions in the good ole USA after their visits…
