Nick Cannon wants to dress up as Ike Turner for Halloween

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon each may be going their own way with their Halloween costumes this year. Unlike last year, when they dressed up as fireskanks. How precious. No, this year Nick wants to go as Ike Turner. He claims it’s an homage. However Mariah is refusing to go as Tina, for fear that she’ll offend the legend.

MARIAH Carey’s husband Nick Cannon has revealed his plans for Halloween — he’ll be dressing up as Ike Turner!

The America’s Got Talent host said he thought it would be a great idea to dress up as the late musician — but his superstar wife is less than impressed and won’t be following suit by dressing up as Tina Turner.

“I want to be Ike and Tina, but she [Carey] doesn’t want to offend Tina Turner.” Cannon said. “I think it’s an honor.”

Ike — who reportedly died of a cocaine overdose in 2007 — became known more for his stormy relationship with former wife Tina than his music.

In his 2001 autobiography, he admitted, “Sure, I’ve slapped Tina… There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking. But I have never beat her.”

Unlike a lot of people, I actually like Nick Cannon. But I’m going to have to side firmly with Mariah. Read that last quotation from Ike’s book for reason enough. Frankly Ike is remembered as three things, in this order: 1) Tina Turner’s husband; 2) the man who beat Tina Turner (or punched her to the ground, since apparently that was an important distinction to Ike) and 3) a singer. I think I was at least 18 years old before I knew Ike Turner was a singer, though I’d heard of him plenty of times. I mistakenly thought he was just her volatile manager. Unless Nick goes around singing Ike Turner songs (and I’m not saying he wouldn’t), I think people are going to see him as dressing up as Ike 1 and 2, and not Ike 3.

And I’ll just point out that whenever Mariah Carey is the more logical one in a debate, it might be time to really look hard at yourself. Just a thought.

  1. Ike Turner is so 1970’s. Chris Brown is the 2000’s Ike.
