James Corden & his wife stopped by Montecito to see Prince Harry & Meghan

James Corden has been a surprisingly good friend to Prince Harry. It’s weird, because so many famous British people have been bullied into “choosing” which royal side they’re on, and if they choose Team Sussex, they face the palace’s wrath and, even more specifically, Prince William’s wrath. In Corden’s case, it helps that he was already based in California when the Sussexes arrived, but still – it would have been pretty easy for him to talk out of both sides of his mouth or what have you. Instead, Corden maintains good relations with the Sussexes and he even spends private time with them. He and his wife visited them in Montecito this week:

James Corden’s U.S. visit included a stop at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s home.

On Tuesday, the 44-year-old actor and comedian dropped by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s home in Montecito, California, according to the Daily Mail. Corden recently took his final bow as host of The Late Late Show with James Corden in April and relocated to the U.K. with his wife and kids. According to Hello! magazine, Corden and his family traveled stateside during his children’s school break.

That’s all that’s known, really – Corden and his wife stopped by the royal court of Montecito and then the Cordens went out to dinner in Santa Barbara or something. I’m glad the Sussexes got to see their friends, and it’s cool that Corden maintains that friendship. It’s unfortunate that we basically only know about this visit because the Mail’s paparazzi are still skulking around Montecito.

Meanwhile, Corden’s former Late Late Show team has been releasing behind-the-scenes videos of Corden’s last days as a talk-show host in America. In Part 6, Prince Harry made a very small cameo behind the scenes, because Harry was there for James’s last show. You can see Harry at first around the 9:10-mark.

It’s so disturbing how the paps are just staking out their Montecito home and tracking the comings and goings of their friends. They really are desperate for any crumb of Sussex gossip. Breaking news – rich and famous people have lunch with their rich and famous friends!!

  2. Snuffles says:

That’s nice. Seems like a genuine friendship to me.

  3. equality says:

Only Harry there for the last show? Without Meghan? Oh, no, they must be divorcing. (sarc)

    • Pinkosaurus says:

I thought only fame-crazed Meghan was attending Hollywood events while Harry hides in hotel rooms to escape? So confusing 🤷‍♀️

  4. Wait I thought the Sussexes were getting divorced and now they are out for dinner and a visit with friends? Not a big fan of Cordon but nice to hear Harry and Meg are friends and are out and about.

  5. Southern Fried says:

Their appearance together with the bus tour and obstacle course will always be funny.

    • one of the marys says:

And then there was a video put together comparing Harry and William on these obstacle courses which was brutally unflattering to William. That made the rounds for a while

      • Suze says:

The switch to the kazoo music for William gets me every time.

      • Serenity says:

PLEASE tell me how to find that video!! I gotta see it now, it will probably go in a playlist so I can watch it over and over!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

  6. Amy Bee says:

If the British press weren’t intent on stalking Harry and Meghan we wouldn’t have known about this but it’s good that they get to spend time with their friends.

    • Nerd says:

I would be okay not knowing about this if it means that they had privacy to live their lives as they should. The Fail is only showing how obsessed they are with them and it’s becoming more obvious to even those who refused to see it, that the problem was never the Sussexes but the media.

      • Anna says:

Agreed, “Couple visited by friends” isn’t a story. Not quite a nothingburger because it’s at least true, but the bar is in hell when it comes to this form of “journalism”.

I’ve always heard that corden is such an entitled snob, and that he is really crappy to people he sees as “beneath” him, and so to me it’s a little disappointing that Hand M are friends with him. Maybe M doesn’t really like him and that’s why she isn’t in any of the shots

    • Digital Unicorn says:

For someone like Cordon being friends with the Sussex’s is EVERYTHING so yeah he will be on his best behaviour to keep that going.

    • Nanny to the Rescue says:

You think he might be taking advantage of Harry and Meghan for his own promotion?

I’ve heard bad things about him too (mainly here in the comments).

      • Zazzoo says:

It makes perfect sense. It’s a great professional connection for Cordon. If it’s a real friendship, more power to them, but I fail to see how it would be worth Harry’s time to use Cordon as a professional stepping stone.

    • Snooker says:

I think about this every time I see a story with James Corden, he seems to be so well liked among other celebrities- Harry and Meghan, Adele, Harry Styles, etc. especially when we see who all showed up for his last shows. And we have heard so many accounts of how awful a person Corden is. Makes me realize how not great celebrities/rich people are. There are others who fall into that Corden category too- people who are well known to be horrible but are besties with your faves.

    • hangonamin says:

i’m of the opinion corden seems like an opportunist and will be the most loyal, bestest, greatest friend to someone that has more social clout and standing than him. but will show his true face to people that are “beneath him”. he just seems like an overeager and fake person. H+M can do better, but I bet Corden was there for them at the beginning of their turmoil and they’re loyal ppl that value that? harry probs like that he’s a Brit. idk. seems like they have a lot of friendships with ppl that are not great ppl but were nice to them…like ellen too.

      • Mary S says:

I have friends like that. They are cool with people who have comparable achievements to their own. But, they are not so warm with people who they feel have not risen to their level. For me, as long as they’re not unkind to other people, I accept them for who they are. I share what I can to improve their perspective.

  8. Kate says:

They weren’t here specifically to see Harry and M. His child did a performance at the Adderley School and he made an appearance there as the MC.

    • Draculaura says:

The article said that the kids were on school break, from their schools in the UK?

      • Kate says:

It was a benefit/theater event at the school here over the weekend:

May 27. Join Master of Ceremonies James Corden and Kenny Loggins in Celebrating 30 years of Adderley, a not-to-be-missed fundraising event supporting The Adderley School Foundation.

    • @Kate. The royal rotas are reading CB. Surely they will mine this for such a valuable information.

  9. Honey says:

Two things come to mind: (1) the total oddness and randomness of Prince Harry bringing someone a cup of ice water or whatever that was, and (2) I scanned each of the pictures looking for the number of black and brown faces on the creative teams or on any of the teams. Not many. I instantly thought about how might they get that experience and who do they need to “be” or know to get that experience. I also thought about the insecularity of who and how teams/companies hire. For, me in my work, we claim we need someone to fill gaps but we constantly hire people who are just replicas of ourselves—sometimes with different skin tones but replicas nonetheless.

  10. Sasha says:

There are so many stories of Corden being an awful, awful person but he seems to maintain close friendships with certain (I guess elite) people. I would have thought the Sussexes would have a good bull$hit radar but maybe Corden is a genuinely good pal when he wants to be?

    • KT says:

Or, he’s not actually an ‘awful, awful’ person, he’s just a regular person who has bad days and is grumpy and thoughtless sometimes, and it’s become popular to amplify stories about his bad days.

I mean, it’s not like he has been accused of rape, assault, theft or murder. It’s stories about being grumpy about an order being wrong a couple of times in a fancy restaurant, or not doing childcare on an overnight flight, or not talking nicely to people on the set of his chat show.

      • SAS says:

Yeah as far as I’m aware, his reputation for being an asshole is limited to treating servers and plebs poorly (and being severely unfunny). I don’t believe there’s even any workplace bullying allegations let alone racism/sexual misconduct as you mentioned.

Not someone I’m a fan of in the slightest but if we’re judging H&M on problematic friends, he would not be top of the list imo.

    • Renstewart says:

That would not surprise me. I have friends that I have not approved of what they do and have honestly told them so. Yet, we remain friends and would be there if one of us were in a jam. Humans are complex and we can’t know the basis for the friendships between other people we don’t know or don’t know well.

  11. j.ferber says:

Well, Corden is British and I’m sure he’s on his best behavior here. It’s not like the Sussexes are, God forbid, servers at a restaurant, who are okay to treat like shit.

  12. DaisyMay says:

Corden is funny and talented. Check out show Gavin and Stacey. I just have a hard time imagining he’s a total jerk. Everyone does have their bad days. Compared to anyone in Dumpy’s circle, he’s a saint. I was sorry his show wasn’t on earlier.

  13. AC says:

I dont really watch James Corden’s shows as I prefer Seth Myers . But I loved when Michelle Obama was on his show twice – carpool karaoke and the US vs UK dodgeball competition were both classic! And Biden giving him a nice send-off, coming from the POTUS, that’s a big deal.
