Brittany Murphy was making baby plans, her friends mourn on Twitter

Prada LA Presents "Trembled Blossoms" - Arrivals

As news of Brittany Murphy’s death reached media outlets yesterday, many of Brittany’s coworkers, friends and fans took to Twitter to mourn the young star and remember her warmly. Alicia Silverstone, Brittany’s costar in Clueless, spoke to People Magazine about Brittany, saying “I always felt connected to her as we shared a very special experience in our lives together. I feel love in my heart for her – and hope she is at peace. This is truly sad.” Alicia also said that though they “didn’t stay in close touch over the years” she was still “so saddened to hear this news. I loved working with Brittany. She was so talented, so warm, and so sweet.” Others chimed in on Twitter:

Following Sunday’s shocking death of actress Brittany Murphy at age 32, her friends and admirers in Hollywood are sharing their grief and memories on Twitter and elsewhere.

Lindsay Lohan: “My deepest condolences go out to all of Brittany Murphy’s loved ones& may she rest in peace….She was a great talent w/a beautiful soul xo”

Kim Kardashian: “I am in shock that [Brittany] Murphy has died! Clueless is my all time favorite movie. My prayers go out to her family & husband”

Khloe Kardashian: “OMG!!!! This is horrible news when anyone passes. I’m so sorry for her family. Send prayers out please!”

Jessica Simpson: “Brittany Murphy was an incredible ray of Light to so many people. Her smile was contagious. My prayers are with her family and loved ones.”

Russel Simmons: “I met Brittany murphy before her star rose its tough to find peace in fame. I wish her peace and happiness in her next lifetime”

Alyssa Milano: “[Brittany] and I did a USO Tour together in 2003. [Love] She was a sweet soul, with a lot of talent and heart.”

Hilary Duff: “RIP Brittany Murphy forever in our hearts”

Fred Durst: “What a sweet human being. My prayers are with her friends and family.”

Film critic Roger Ebert: “She had a genuine quality.”

Actress Soleil Moon Frye: “I was so blessed to know your grace…I will never forget the beautiful school girl you were and woman you became.”

Jeff Bowler, who produced the just-released film Across the Hall co-starring Murphy, tells UsMagazine.com: “It’s truly a tragedy what happened. She was a great person with a huge heart.”

Celebrity talent agent Mike Heller tells UsMagazine.com, “My heart is broken. She was an icon and an extremely talented actress and a good friend. She will definitely be missed.”

I feel kind of “meh” about people expressing their grief on Twitter, but I suppose it’s just as valid and heartfelt as drafting a press release, only less complicated. Still, it’s clear that Brittany was loved and respected by many in the Hollywood community, and it’s nice to such respectful tributes to her life and work.

Meanwhile, others haven’t been so kind or respectful. Perez Hilton’s initial report on Brittany’s death read “People just don’t typically die at 32 of natural causes!!!!!!! Absolutely devastating. Especially because this comes as no surprise! We, and those who knew Brittany personally, saw this coming. That does not make this any less horrible.” While Perez might be right (and I admit that my first thought was “drugs”), it would have been more respectful to simple just say “there are rumors about this or that” rather than some f-cked up “I told you so.”

Many news agencies are going through their archival footage of Brittany, and it’s pretty much established that her last public appearance was for the opening of Tt Collection’s Pop-Up shop in Los Angeles. Many outlets described her appearance at the time as “emaciated” or “bony” and looking at the photos, you can see she doesn’t look very healthy. She seems to have given one of her last red carpet interviews to Access Hollywood, and media outlets are quoting from it at length (here‘s another red carpet interview from the event). Brittany spoke about wanting to have a baby in the new year, saying “As far as having a New Year’s resolution, I’d love to have a child next year. But that’s kind of a large one!” She also described herself as “very blessed to have a really great loving husband. … I spend more time with my family than anyone else in the world.” This poor girl. I have no idea what was really going on with her, but she had real plans for her future, and this story just got me choked up.

I can’t look really I just can’t. Her eyes just have so much playfulness, light to them. If you guys look into those eyes right now you’ll have tears in your eyes.

I logged on this am to this post, and thought ‘Oh God no…’

    Rest in peace Brittany Murphy.

  7. diva says:

It’s very tragic that she died, however to quote the Kardashians who didn’t even know her is downright disrespectful to her memory. It shows that the Kardashians will stop at nothing to further their famewhoring.

  8. Leek says:

I thought twitter respects were tacky but that might be b/c the only one I’d seen until now was Ashton’s. I could be wrong but his post just came across as REALLY condescending to me. It made me dislike him even more.

Kathy Najimi’s was so sad and so genuine that it made him look worse and worse.

  9. mila says:

This made me dislike Ashton even more (though I hope it’s not true): http://blindgossip.com/?p=11475. She was an incredible beauty and a good actress.Rest in peace.

  10. Atticus says:

This really is so sad. Never really heard a bad word about her and she always came across as genuinely sweet and sunny. So sad, I did get teary looking at the clips and pics of her in the other post. I had no idea she could sing so well.

Brittany and Ashton dated years ago. I thought his post was ok. I would imagine he’s upset about it, they seemed to part on decent terms. One of the funniest things Brittany ever said was in an interview with Letterman after they broke up and he started dating Demi. Brittany said something like, it’s nice, for him age isn’t an issue…and for her, size isn’t an issue. Zing!

RIP, Brittany. The world really is less brighter today without you.

  11. Jana says:

I have loved her since she was Tai in ’94. Rest well.

  12. Neelyo says:

Who cares what the Kardashians think? I saw CLUELESS too but I don’t expect any news outlet to pick up my tweets. They didn’t work with her or know her. Twitter is perfect for putting out press releases that nobody asked for.

  13. Sumodo says:

The movie she did, playing the daughter of a rock star, who had no money left and had to fend for herself, could have been a bad movie. But, she made it shine. Same thing with the nanny movie. She raised drecky projects with her bouncy charm. What a tragedy.

  14. Mommy says:

I despise Perez Hilton. I really do.

  15. lucy2 says:

I think that’s what bugs me about the Twitter stuff too, a lot of people who didn’t know her made comments on there, knowing they’d become part of the story (Kardashians? Lohan? Come on). Friends and co-workers are one thing, but people who had nothing to do with her don’t need to be quoted in the articles.

I just saw reports elsewhere that she was ill for a few days with flu like symptoms. It’s possible that if she had other health problems as people have discussed, that compounded with a flu could have been enough.

  16. Alec says:

It does not matter if she was on Drugs. She seems like a lovable person with a good heart. Everyone said she was sweat and amazingly talented. One Critic said she had a Jennifer Jason Leigh quality which is an amazing compliment.

She was a highly talented actress. She could do comedy or horror very easily and she was great in 8 Mile, Girls interupted and Sin City.

If only she lived a bit longer I am sure an Oscar would have been in the cards.

Some actress are like marmite…u love them or hate them but…I think there was A LOT OF LOVE FOR MS MURPHY…

She had a distinctive voice and huge eyes that carried so much emotion.

Death is sad and Perez is getting out of control.

  17. Tamara says:

Brittany Murphy was loved. Brittany Murphy was Persent. RIP Brittany Murphy

  18. Tamara says:

I think if u cared about ppl like Micheal Jackson or Brittany Murphy and they suddenly die…there is no where u can express ur grief and that is something Twitter does very well. Anyone can send their best wishes to Bri

  19. Tamara says:

omg – the solved it and confirmed it was Brittany M…So sad. Ashton is a douche bag in my book. ZERO RESPECT- http://blindgossip.com/?p=11475

Thank u to whom ever posted that blindvice. Great catch.

There was a Oscar in Brittany Murphy’s future. She had an amazing voice, she could easily do horror and rom-com. She was a scene stealer. Her amazing eyes held so much expression. She was unbeatable and an all rounder. She was great in Sin City and my Fav movie Clueless. That wanker ex-boyfriends used his influence to break her spirit.

  20. MSat says:

I owe one of my favorite animated film moments ever to Ms. Murphy: she played the role of “Gloria” in the movie “Happy Feet.” That’s Brittany singing “Somebody to Love.”
    Love, love love this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjJF5hUzcnw

I think her husband was poisoning her over a period of days.

may god bless her in heaven forever. aminn

  26. lilred says:

    So sad and shocking.Loved her.

  27. Cindy Kennedy says:

I wonder what went wrong. A healthy 32-year old doesn’t just drop dead. Did she have anorexia?

  28. Jane says:

@MSAT, I feel the same way too. I like that movie because of how she potrayed Gloria and she has a big voice…our daughter loves Gloria too. and I agree with someone who said that there was oscar in her future..she was an actress with real talent, not like those kardASShians..

call me silly but I still cant get over the sadness..

  29. NicoleAM says:

Check out Riding in Cars w/ Boys and this horror flick called Cherry Falls. In the latter she looked even more doed eyed and innocent. RIP

  30. Jazz says:

Wasn’t Brittany in Freeway with Reese Witherspoon as well? She was awesome in that. And in the movie Drop Dead Gorgeous with Kirsten Dunst and Denise Richards. Her character had a brother that was a Liza Minnelli impersonator, and there is a scene with the father where she says something like “You know what Dad, Peter’s gay… GAY!” I just love how she delivered that line, it made me laugh every single time. Rest in peace Brittany, wherever your beautiful soul may be.
