ET: Brad Pitt is getting carved up in court in three different jurisdictions

I stopped covering the back-and-forth minutiae of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s many lawsuits and legal shenanigans. Let’s be fair to Angelina – she’s been trying to extract herself from Pitt legally and financially for years, and he is the one who is trying to “punish” her and abuse her through the court system, because he’s an abusive, childish piece of sh-t who still can’t believe that she had the audacity to leave him. This is all about Angelina’s sale of Nouvel, her “half” of Chateau Miraval. She sold Nouvel to Yuri Shefler and a Stoli subsidiary and she did so through completely above-board legal means. Pitt is suing her because he claims that they had a secret, unwritten agreement that she would never sell Nouvel to anyone but him. Jolie countered with: I tried to sell Nouvel to Pitt but he tried to attach a non-disclosure agreement to the sale to silence me about his physical and emotional abuse. So, on we go. As it turns out, there’s been a lot of movement in the American side of these court cases this month and Entertainment Tonight had some exclusive updates:

What’s actually happening in court, according to Jolie’s lawyer: After Pitt scored a victory on March 13 in his lawsuit against Jolie, a source knowledgeable about the case tells ET that a court in Los Angeles, California, actually ruled against Pitt on Jolie’s demurrer to his original complaint and dismissed five of the seven claims Pitt asserted against her. Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, gave a statement to ET regarding the judge’s ruling on Jolie’s demurrer: “The judge dismissed most of Mr. Pitt’s claims because they don’t have a legal basis. Mr. Pitt’s lawsuit has never been about a business dispute; instead, it is about his attempts to cover up serious abuse, and we are gratified the judge has thrown out so much of Mr. Pitt’s complaint. Angelina truly harbors no ill-will toward Mr. Pitt, and hopes he will now release her from his frivolous lawsuit, stop his relentless attacks, and join her in helping their family heal in private.”

Pitt’s legal argument is a mess: In documents obtained by ET, one of the dismissed claims was brought under Luxembourg law, which the Court dismissed with prejudice, declining to recognize Luxembourg law in this case. According to the source, this ruling is important because Pitt was trying to find a way to seek to recover his attorneys’ fees incurred in this case and this was the only claim that gave him the potential to recover his fees. The court sustained this demurrer without leave to amend, which means Pitt can’t recover his attorneys’ fees either.

What else was dismissed: The source says that another claim was for a constructive trust — a request that the court give Pitt the shares in Miraval that Nouvel currently holds. The court dismissed this claim with prejudice as well. The court also dismissed three additional tort claims as well, meaning Jolie will not be exposed to punitive damages. The source explains that one of Pitt’s claims was based on the theory that Jolie and Nouvel were alter egos of each other and argued that the actress was liable for Nouvel’s alleged misconduct. The Court rejected this argument and the claims that Jolie interfered with Pitt’s business relationships with Miraval and the Perrin family. The court has given Pitt time to amend and try to make the three claims legally tenable, which the source tells ET they don’t think the actor will be able to do.

The remaining claims: The remaining two claims that haven’t been dismissed are Pitt’s claim that he had a secret, unwritten, unspoken implied contract with Jolie whereby she could not sell her interest in Miraval without his consent and a claim for quantum meruit based on the notion that Pitt did more work for Miraval. Although the source tells ET that “there is no agreement” between Jolie and Pitt, the court found that the existence of this implied contract and the right to quantum meruit are factual matters that Jolie could not resolve. Still, the source says that they are “confident” the court will throw out the final two claims on summary judgment.

[From ET]

It sounds like Pitt and his lawyers went into court half-cocked and expected to bully and abuse Angelina like always and the court was like “WTF are you doing??” Meanwhile, there are a dozen other legal situations Pitt has to deal with from the American courts to the French courts to the Luxembourg courts. There’s a dodgy tax situation in France, and Yuri Shefler (who now owns Nouvel) is basically auditing the crap out of the business and finding widespread impropriety. Pitt has tried to push Nouvel/Shefler out of the business and “seize de facto control” of Miraval. Shefler has also credibly accused Pitt of gross mismanagement, from handing over a large part of the business to the Perrin family to wasting millions of dollars on vanity projects.

ET also reports that a Luxembourg court recently ruled that Shefler/Nouvel can proceed with their $250 million claim against Pitt for all of this mismanagement, despite Pitt’s efforts to have Shefler’s lawsuits dismissed. Hilariously, the Luxembourg courts recently ruled (according to ET) that “Pitt cannot sue Shefler or Shefler’s company, SPI Group Holding Limited after he tried to add numerous parties to his second amended complaint.” I have believed for some time now that the endgame for this will be Pitt selling his half of Miraval because he’s so far in debt, and Shefler isn’t f–king around.

As far as I can tell, Pitt’s entire strategy is screaming “I won” at every stage of his lawsuits regardless of what actually happened, and getting TMZ and People to report that. When he actually gets his ass handed to him in court years from now, I assume he will pull a Trump and claim poverty. He’s delusional and in denial.

    • ML says:

I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s continuing to abuse Angie via the courts, entertainment sites and sometimes the news, and he’s using DARVO tactics in order to do that.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The way h e continues to abuse her almost a decade after she left him is so unsettling to witness. Will he ever leave her alone?

    • snappyfish says:

I don’t understand why courts are entertaining this imbecile. She OFFERED her share to him to buy & he turned her down. Then she went to the court to get permission to sell her shares to Stoli & was granted permission. He then showed himself to be the prat he is by refusing to show company documentation to his new, like it or not, partners in ownership of the winery. Such a childish little baby man. I can’t with him & have added him to the list. The list that includes Spacey, Cruise, Sarando, Gibson et al. I refuse to watch anything these people have anything to do with.

      • Katya says:

        Same here ….

I used to be such a huge fan of his acting. David Fincher is do a re-edit of Se7en in IMAX format. I would watch anything Fincher does but I can’t imagine watching Pitt even on a small screen.

      • La Dolce Vita says:

        @snappyfish
Oh I’m with you on the list of intolerables. It grows longer every day, doesn’t it?
Domestic abusers Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Mel Gibson etc. Sex offenders Spacey, the two Afflecks etc. Paedophiles Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Elvis Presley, Brad Pitt, Jerry Seinfeld, Machine Gun Kelly, James Woods, Anthony Kiedis, James Franco.
Misogynist scumbags who try to minimise women reporting SA and harrassment like Liam Neeson, David Schwimmer, Matt Damon.
Tbh, it’d be easier to make a list of men who haven’t done any of the above.

    • HillaryIsAlwaysRight says:

His strategy is working so far. He got an Oscar a few years ago for his mediocre role in Tarantino’s worst film. Hollywood fell all over themselves giving him accolades. Like the good ol’ boy network that it is. Meanwhile, Jolie is painted as a crazy harlot out to ruin poor Brad’s life. Hopefully the general public will soon recognize this situation for what it is – a recovering alcoholic still finding ways to abuse his ex and smear her name, Hope the reporting on this gets more objective, and not directed by his PR team.

  2. Whyforthelove says:

I mean his layers’ arguments are creative I will give them that but, I doubt the lawyers were strutting into court. I would have had on sunglasses, a trench coat and been slinking around Pink Panther style hoping no one saw me. These were obviously going to be losing arguments. The lawyers know that. They are being paid to lose and lose they shall while Pittt continues to terrorize his wife.

  3. ML says:

Angie did what any mother would try to do and that’s run and protect her children. She’s been reticent about attacking him much (usually a response to him if anything like that own-goal anonymous FBI report that bit him in the butt) or badmouthing him to the kids publicly. He has not been seen in public with his own children since September of 2016.
I feel like that “unwritten agreement” should also have been thrown out, but I’m so glad at least 5 of the 7 counts disappeared. And finally (!!) this is hitting the English language news. I am so sick of watching BP act like a good person in order to abuse his ex and family in the press.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

She says she “harbors no ill will towards him”, but it sounds like she is entitled to a lot of ill will should she decide to harbor it. Pitt is exhausting and abusive. It’s a lot.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I think she has let go of whatever ill will and negative feelings regarding him for her own peace of mind. Sometimes you just have to do this to protect yourself and give yourself a mental space to heal and move forward. I wish her the best and hope that Pitt will finally leave her alone.

      • Robert Phillips says:

Until her youngest kids are eighteen. She won’t ever come out and attack him. But after they are legal adults. And Pitt can’t do anything to them. Then I believe it will be the kids who write books and do interviews about how bad he was. And the more he does things like this. The more likely the kids are to come for him.

  4. Liz in A says:

That was a great article, super informative on each part of the case.

Brad Pitt, such a shame. And a sham, his strategy has just been vile and clearly has cost him the respect or liking of his kids since they avoid him.

    • Lau says:

The fact that his children want to have nothing to do with him and that he’s only fighting for money matters is really telling us what kind of terrible person he is.

  5. Lurker25 says:

I find it hard to remember how I ever found this man attractive. The ick is just so strong days.

    • Ameerah M says:

I used to have a poster of him on my wall when I was a teenager. I had SUCH a crush on him. And now I can’t stand the sight of him.

  6. MerlinsMom1018 says:

I’ve said it before and I will say it again
When Karma decides to ride into town, she stops along the way, scoops up the 4 Horsemen and proceeds to go full scorched earth.

    Vengeance thy name is Angelina

  7. huckle says:

What happened to that skin care line of his? Talk about a vanity project.

    • Raven says:

I think the skin care line that he knows nothing about and the clothing line are a part of his embezzlement schemes. So they may be frozen like his other projects outside of the winery.

  8. Shawna says:

I’m so glad he tried to cross Shefler. Shefler ain’t having it, and it’s a kind of affirmation that Jolie’s position is reasonable and correct.

  9. Joy says:

The fact that she walked away as soon as she and her children got off that plane, and never looked back at him, says it all. I’m team Angela all the way. I hope she gets complete satisfaction in the lawsuits and I hope his abusive bs comes back to haunt him forever. Go Angie.

    • Katya says:

I’m sure that was straw … as in FINAL.

Can you imagine being on a transatlantic flight with a raging drunk for 20 hours.

  10. Glamarazzi says:

I find this kind of persecution-by-courtroom so disturbing. I hope he’ll wake up and realize that he’s getting nothing by pursuing this case and drop it.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Ditto. She left him so many years ago and he’s still abusing her through the legal system and the tabloid press. It is very disturbing.

  11. JustMe says:

Wow an article about Pitt that doesn’t go about how wonderful his new gf is and how she is just so cool

  12. Dorianne says:

Regarding this story, my mom quoted to me the SECOND most memorable line in the film The Help: Love and hate are two horns on the same goat. Angelina Jolie is Pitt’s one true love. He is hopelessly enamored with her. He found his soulmate and she is in his blood like a virus. There is no other for him. But if he can’t have her as a wife/partner, he’ll pursue her in court, for as long as it takes, to continue the connection. At this point, it is a sick obsession for him. He has to get her back because no one ever leaves Brad Pitt. All the tabloid stuff and the weird, groupie gf are all designed to play to an audience of one. Pitt wants AJ’s attention and she’s having none of it. So the abuse goes on and on and on. He’s so desperate that, I’m sure, if AJ would so much as smile in his direction, he’d be back at her side faster than you can say Ines deRamon.

    • Ivy says:

This is a good observation because some of those pr articles qare SO strange! Like constantly saying he’s never been happier and how his gf is so much closer to his mom then angelina. sir who are you trying convince?! Because she doesnt care 😭What a miserable man

  13. Raven says:

You would think for someone who claims he’s so “happy” with his new “girlfriend” in the tabloids, he would stop harassment of Jolie . His actions show otherwise. He’s a miserable abusive POS.

I hope Shefler/Nouvel wins and takes whatever the French government doesn’t take from the taxes Pitt has been lying about.

  14. Bad Janet says:

Some people really settle into those narcissistic personality disorder traits as they age. Apparently, Brad Pitt is one of those people.

  15. ohwell says:

“he had a secret, unwritten, unspoken implied contract with Jolie whereby she could not sell her interest in Miraval without his consent”

The above made me laugh. Why would his lawyer think that would hold up in court?
