Jessica Simpson: “I definitely will marry an artistic man”

js21

Oh, Lord. Allure finally put their Jessica Simpson slideshow online (alas, the full interview is still pending), so we have even more Jessica goodness to share today. Now that I’m looking at the full slideshow, I have to say that I enjoy the styling for this photoshoot a lot. In many of the photos, they’ve got Jessica doing this beachy Gidget-meets-Barbarella thing, and Jessica looks adorable. Of course, it’s Jessica, so they have to screw it up a little – there a few photos of her trying to be vampy, and just looking dumb. Poor Jess. Here are some more highlights from the interview, including Jessica’s musings on “America’s weight obsession” and how she knows that she’ll marry “an artistic man.”

Jessica Simpson wore a gray T-shirt, J Brand jeans, and Yves Saint Laurent boots to the shoot. Between takes, she slipped into sandals that she had brought with her, from her latest shoe collection. “I prefer heels to flats any day,” the singer said of the sky-high nude wedges. Here, she poses for Norman Jean Roy in a Fendi dress

For her new VH1 show, Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty (which premieres at 10 P.M. EDT on March 15), Simpson traveled to seven foreign countries to explore different concepts of beauty. “When I think of America, it’s very diverse, but we do have the cookie-cutter way we’re supposed to look, and going to all these countries, it’s so completely different. I was fascinated going on that journey to discover that, even just for myself. In a lot of Asian cultures, the whiter you are, the more beautiful you are—and what I’m so used to is ‘The tanner you are, the thinner you look, the skinnier you feel,” said Simpson.

Simpson was game for the toned-down look the Allure team had in mind for her. “After learning what beauty means to different women around the world, we wanted to celebrate Jessica’s individual beauty,” said her hairstylist Ken Paves, who also appears on Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty.

Simpson is aware of the strengths of her goofy persona. “I’m vulnerable in any moment,” says Simpson. “I don’t care if the cameras are on or not, you’re going to get the real me. There’s no reason to mask that, because that’s what has given me the chance to be in a powerful position.”

America’s weight obsession is, as Simpson puts it, “disgusting. My job is to be creative,” she says. “And I’m not weighing in for anybody.”

Although she received a lackluster response to her two most recent acting efforts, Employee of the Month and Blonde Ambition, Simpson hardly counts herself out of the movie business. “I already have a whole other world of business out there,” she says, referring to her apparel, accessories, and fragrance lines, “so acting for me will be very, very selective from here on out. But I will never do nudity,” she insists. “I don’t care how dark and intellectual the role could be, you know? I don’t care if I frickin’ get an Oscar for it, I’m not going to do it. Those accolades mean nothing to me….I don’t think people deserve to see what’s underneath my clothing. That’s only for my next husband—ha ha ha!”

When she discusses her next potential partner, Simpson, who is rumored to be dating former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan says, “I definitely will marry an artistic man. It will show you the colors of my character, the person that I fall in love with next. I don’t even have a type! I don’t have a physical type. I have an emotional type. When you have yourself together, I don’t care what you look like at all. You can be tall; you can be short.”

What’s next for Simpson? “The performer is what people saw in me in the beginning. It would be nice to reintroduce myself as that,” she says. But she’s determined to make something clear: She’s the one calling the shots. “I am hands-on with my life. I direct my life,” she says. “I didn’t realize that until this year, when people were trying to take that away from me. I’m still here, and I have a comment. I always have a comment.”

[From Allure]

I actually believe Jessica when she says she doesn’t care what the guy looks like. Sure, she’d probably prefer a cute guy, but I really do think she knows herself well enough that she’s looking for someone to love, who is going to love her for who she is too. She’s done with beefcake. She wants someone who takes her seriously, I think. Is that Billy Corgan? I have no idea. But I’d like to see her with someone whose going to treat her with respect. You know who would be good for her? Jake Gyllenhaal. I’m serious, y’all. He loves blondes, so let’s give him the biggest (and I mean that personality-wise) blonde there is! Jessica Gyllenhaal. It could work!

She’s beginning to uncomfortably remind me of Marilyn Monroe. A total sexpot, but as a result clueless as to why men don’t take her seriously as wife material. She had Nick, but lost him and is getting more well known for her antics with men than career.

  2. Stella says:

what is “wife material”? that is the dumbest comment I have ever read. get a clue.

  3. JulieNewmar says:

The pics are gorgeous and photoshopped to the hilt.

  4. Seer says:

Whomever she marries, I hope they’re prepared with a gas mask, since apparently she likes to pass gas without any reservations.

  5. Dorothy says:

NO never ever ever will she be with Jake!!!!! He is way to smart and cute and funny and cute and smart to be with her!

  6. DoMaJoReMc says:

Absolutely ADORABLE! She looks like she had fun with this photo shoot! Good for her!

  7. bite me says:

oh simpleton, she trie so hard but always fails… maybe she should try keeeping her relationships out of the media

  8. hatsumomo says:

Hey seer, I do the same thing! Thankfully my man understands and thinks its just a part of being a human being. And he passes gas in front of me, so no big deal. We just didnt do it when we were first dating…

  9. Sumodo1 says:

Jessica, hitting the art scene requires learning something about culture and asthetics. Good luck.

  10. Breezy says:

I think I’m starting to like her. She’s got some of that ‘dumb blonde’ going on, but she seems like a genuinely nice person, as compared to Miley Cyrus, who tries to act like a nice girl, but there’s just something that screams ‘bitch’ about her. XD

However, I’ll never like Jess’s body. These photos are totally photoshopped to make her look thinner, because we all know she ISN’T thin. But as long as she’s happy, then I’m happy for her.

  11. Samantha says:

These are some of the most beautiful shots I have ever seen of her. Very well done.

  12. dude says:

breezy..what do you consider thin?? Jessica is a healthy weight. She is thin.

  13. Lucy says:

    Photoshop award.
Please… she’s half in those pics that she is for real (if not a third…)

I get you love to part for a “normalgirl” cos you feel near to her so, but she’s ridicolous.

She has taken plastic surgery (face, nose, now boobs) and she claims she loves being “natural”?

    Please.

She has NO talent whatsoever. She has never been a performer and truly only middle class america has ever got her.

    She’s trivial, and pretty dumb.

And this interview still show her like a poor girl with little acknowledgement of life and dynamics or relationship.

    A model?

    No way.

I get you feel near to her simpleness, but no thanx.

She has done nothing in her life to be this relevant.
(not that she is truly relevant anymore… she does nothing).

But truly, the way these photos are photoshopped make her result even mre fake and dumb.

Have you seen her on cameras recently?

    She’s FAT.
    Not cutely round. She’s FAT.

Nothing wrong with it, if she’d accepted it for real.
But making people photoshopping her so, tells clearly she’s an hypocrit and she’s the first having weight issues for image.

    I don’t like hypocrit people.
Though I honestly believe she’s just not that intelligent, rather thanan hypocrit.

  14. KsGirl says:

Some of these photos are years old…

  15. hatsumomo says:

Um, Lucy, who do YOU consider natural then? Just wondering.

  16. dude says:

Are you kidding? She is not fat! Monique is fat, Kirstie Alley is fat! Jessica is not fat! She hasnt had any work done. Her boobs are real, her nose is identical as her fathers/ashlee’s “real nose”.
And maybe you should get ur ears checked b/c she can actually sing! I certainly hope you are perfect the way you just critized jessica. I hope throne is comfy way up there, Lucy!!

  17. QB says:

Jessica is thin but not that thin, so saying that how she naturally look is setting a unrealistic vision of her body.

Jessica will marry whoever ask her to , she seems like a girl who will become whatever her husband ( or family) wants.

  18. Praise St. Angie! says:

I got nothing against Jessica (just her creepy dad) but she has had plastic surgery.

very subtle and well done plastic surgery, to be sure, but she still had some work done.

  19. lucy2 says:

She is not fat. She’s not at death’s door skinny, but she is not fat.

First, I think she needs to be happy with herself and stop worrying about finding a husband. Then, when that’s done, she should find someone much like herself – a little goofy, a little dopey, but nice.

  20. TaylorB says:

    Lucy,

No offense intended, but you have a pretty f*cked up idea of what is ‘fat’; I don’t know if she would even qualify as Rubenesque at this point. She looks healthy and fit.

  21. bubbs says:

NO not Jake. She would bore the f out of him. She is too dumb for him.

  22. moops says:

Not that I agree with Lucy’s vitriol, but she’s right that these pics are photoshopped almost beyond recognition (at least Jessica’s body). She hasn’t been that thin in years, and her legs (in the hammock shot) have NEVER been that long. What hypocrisy – she bitches about America’s obsession with her weight, and then puts out fake thin pics. I shouldn’t be surprised – she’s always been a bit of a hypocrite. Remind me why she is relevant again?

  23. Julies says:

Lucy, you say only “middle class America” gets her, which you apparently mean as a put down. Based on your comment, you do not exactly come across as ‘high class’ America. And your grammar and spelling are not great either.

  24. Emily says:

@Praise St Angie: my god, she looks almost unrecognisable in those “before” pics! And also very 80s.

  25. KLaw says:

@praise st angie: Wow that is a great link! Her nose is definitely different.

The barbarella photos are flattering because she is a sunny, cute girl. That’s also why the sophisticated pics don’t work – they just are not her. She should stick to what she is good at.

  26. Belle Epoch says:

Whoops – thought the quote said she would marry an AUTISTIC man.

  27. Ana says:

Okay, I may just be imagining it, but I swear I have seen the first three pictures before…

  28. erin says:

If you look at the photo descriptions, half of them are from 2004 or 2006

  29. Ana says:

    What happened to my comments?

  30. SlopSlopSloppyJoe says:

My fiance and i have been together for 6 years and never have we broke wind in front of one another. Just has a lot to do with modesty, I suppose. We both know everyone has to do it, but we were brought up to believe it is incredibly rude. There are countries who believe it to be a complement when you are a guest at a dinner party. The Indian folk, with their spicy dishes, they just Have to be one..lol..Thats my only problem with Jessica. She’s kinda gross.
Oh, I think Lucy’s problem is drunk typing. She’s not the only one on this forum, though..Some of the Bloggers here have obviously been hurried lately.

  31. Bonfire Beach says:

It is true that some of these photos are years old. I had the Allure that some of these came from – the header photo and the one of her in the wicker chair are several years old and she was thinner then.

  32. CB Rawks says:

“She had Nick, but lost him”

She is SO much better off without that a-hole.

  33. gally says:

lucy pls learn proper grammar and spelling before embarassing yourself….i mean really
having said that i think Jess looks great, nothing exciting but she does look great..(“.)

  34. kellogg says:

What is up w/the abs in the first pic? Please explain.

  35. Sami says:

Am I the only one looking at the first hammock picture and thinking how bizarre her body looks? She literally reminds me of a gingerbread man, how her entire lower body is completely flattened. I like Jessica Simpson, but someone went way too happy with the Photoshop over at Allure.

  36. Annabelle says:

Lucy who are you calling dumb? You can’t even construct an adequate sentence.

  37. Lway says:

She does look good – Gotto give her that.

  38. ogechi says:

    love her- PERIOD.

  39. guesty says:

@erin & ana…thought some of those pics of her were really old as well…& they are! lol.

  40. t says:

“America’s weight obsession is, as Simpson puts it, “disgusting.”

Did Allure decide it was easier to use old pictures from when she weighed less for the full body shots rather than photoshop recent pictures at her current weight?

By allowing Allure to use six year old pictures from when she was thinner and that appear to be photoshopped (I agree, her legs were never that long and slender), she proves she suffers from that same “disgusting weight obsession” she claims America has. She’s part of the problem. Her actions are hypocritical and so is all her talk about inner beauty.

I guess she’ll say or do anything to try to get an audience for her reality show.

  41. Jane says:

wow is it really gross to let the gas out infront of your soulmate? my husband and i do it a lot infront of each other and we think it’s cute and funny. we are comfortable with each other so why bother to go to another room to fart 😀
and yes we’re even comfortable enough to do this since we were dating lol

  42. Raccoon Princess says:

She needs to start dating more athletes because any artsy guy is going to be scared to death with each date that she’s planning to put a ring on him. Women have long known the best way to get a guy to run is to talk marriage too early. Oooh, that would be smart women and not Jessica.
