Kirstie Alley on Regis & Kelly, ‘I’m cuckoo,’ hasn’t been on a date in 10 years

Kirstie Alley is all smiles for the cameras as she leaves Katsuya restaurant in Hollywood with her adopted children
Kirstie Alley was a guest on Regis and Kelly this morning promoting her new reality show, which premieres Sunday on A&E. She’s wacky as hell and there’s something that really bothers me about her. She didn’t mention her new weight loss product at all, Organic Liaison, which more outlets are picking up on as a scam and a front for Scientology. Maybe she realizes that if she plugs it she’ll only bring more attention to the fact that it’s a ton of L. Ron-approved vitamins packaged in sheep’s clothing to bring in more converts.

Kirstie didn’t say much on Regis, but she did explain how she got heavy again and blamed it all on the fact that she used to eat a lot as a child as she was very active. She told Oprah a few months ago that she would gorge on pasta with tons of melted butter and that sounds like a more likely explanation to me.

On how she got heavy again
We ate a lot our whole lives. My family, we were swimmers in Kansas… We had fast metabolisms. From the time I was little we ate tons of food because we were really athletic, we stayed stick skinny.

I’ve only been fat four years of my life. I know it appears I’ve been fat 97 years.”

I find this woman so annoying and I didn’t even want to cover this story. I wasted time out of my busy day gossiping to watch this show, though, and I may as well repeat what she said. It wasn’t much, and there wasn’t anything new from Kirstie. As my mother said when she walked into the room “Ugh, is this woman still talking about how she’s fat? Give it up already.”

They also showed a clip from Kirstie’s show in which she was having dinner with her “fat buddy,” her handyman, and explaining that she hasn’t been on a date in ten years because she didn’t want anyone telling her how to raise her kids. From what I’ve seen of Kirstie, there are plenty of other reasons why she hasn’t had a date in a decade and it has almost nothing to do with her weight.

I think it’s weird she is basing her entire career on being overweight. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t lose – as soon as that happens, there go the reality shows and weight loss product endorsements? I don’t. She has the means and resources to really do it if she wants to, or if not, just accept yourself and be happy. Isn’t that what Scientology is supposedly all about???

I wish she’d lose the bleach blond hair also, it’s to harsh and unnatural for her.

  2. ogechi says:

    Good eyes she got there.

  3. Jackson says:

I think she’s a loon, but I always thought she was one of the most attractive women in Hollywood.

  4. Alarmjaguar says:

Wait she has kids!? Poor things

  5. Aviatrix says:

Madam Aviatrix’s crystal ball says this is a vision of Jennifer Aniston’s life eventually. They already have the same hair!

  6. Maritza says:

She still has a pretty face I don’t see why she can’t get a date. I think she’s kind of cool.

  7. machiavelli says:

This is as tragic as talented actors wasting their career on drugs/alcohol. She has talent. She is beautiful. What a waste, what a shame.

  8. Dawn says:

Half the time she seems out of mind. I wouldn’t tell anyone that I’m over eating on pasta with tons of butter(eww)

Get your mind in order and your ass will follow.

  9. guilty pleasures says:

    @machiavelli, a waste and a shame? Why?

I had the pleasure of meeting and spending quite a lot of time with Kirstie many years ago when she was in my city filming Runaway.
She is a heart on your sleeve, larger than life, fun and funny woman. As far as I know her kids are colossally well cared for and beloved. She harms no one, she is gorgeous and crazy and very much herself.
A waste? Really? How about just a different woman, making the world a little more colourful?
Why the desire for cookie cutter people in a grey world? I embrace her crazy, she brings a light. I wish we would have continued our friendship!

I like Kirstie Alley, and wish she’d find a way to control her weight. She’s very beautiful when she’s thin. And when she has dark hair.
I do believe she is quite depressed, and maybe $cientol. is the reason she hasn’t sought effective treatment.

  11. Tia C says:

@ lucy2: I totally agree on the bleach blonde hair, I’ve thought that for years about her. She is a lovely brunette, the blonde is way too harsh.

Hmmm, obviously scientology is not working for her. Obviously whatever she’s been doing is not working for her. She’s a mess. Dawn is absolutely right about the mind and the ass!

  12. margo says:

Eeeew–peddle your snake oil elsewhere Kirstie!

Scientolo-wierdo! LRH was a Fraud and so are you! She bugs the shizzz outta me. SUCKER first class

  13. CB Rawks says:

I’m curious why she’s so defensive about how she raises her kids.
All sorts of bizarre family scenes are forming in my mind.
The Christmas tradition where the kids dance the Maypole dance around their mother while she sits naked except for some tinsel on a pedestal of phone books eating frosting and beef jerky s’mores?

  14. Sumodo1 says:

    She’s also an animal hoarder.

  15. Kevin says:

The National Association For Cuckoo Birds demand an immediate retraction from Ms. Alley for her slanderous claim of association.

  16. snowball says:

I think it was on the Today Show this morning (I had it on in the background), she did get sort of grilled about the Scientology thing and she got really irritated and defensive.

I wish she’d dump the blonde hair too. She had such dramatic coloring with her hair and eyes.

As soon as she did some Emmy acceptance speech where she thanked her then-husband for giving her “the big one,” you had to know she had the crazy in her.

  17. Novaraen says:

She seems so funny and wacky. Other than the scientology I don’t really find fault with her. She’s still very pretty…and I’ve always thought she had such striking features. Sad that the only publicity she gets is when she is fat trying to lose weight.

  18. Just a Poster says:

*sigh* I want pet lemurs too!

Okay so I will totally watch the show so I can live vicariously through her because I really do want a pet lemur.

I have 3 kids.. I should be able to handle a lemur or 2 right??

Plus I think she is really funny, and maybe dangerously close to being an all access rider on the crazy train. Plus I am quite curious about the kids. I think this is the first time they have really been part of her public life.

  19. Obvious says:

I adore Kristie. I think Scientology is a scam, and wish she could find away to feel good about herself, but she is talented and funny and I adore her.

  20. mollination says:

1.) I dislike how Scientology is the savior and the answer when a scientologist is doing well, but not even mentioned when they’re doing poorly. Like this w/ most religion it seems.

2.) Kirstie has seemed like she was on drugs lately. I said that on her Oprah appearance 2 years ago (or whenever it was) and I still think something seems different.

3.) She can be very likable, I have read her book (“how to lose your ass” or something) but this crazy-possibly drugged up-defensive Kirstie is obnoxious and over-exposed.

4.) She can be very pretty. Stop blaming, bleaching, and binging, Kirstie.

  21. BReed says:

She doesn’t just eat a lot but obviously she exercises ZIP. Maybe she needs a lapband. She sounds like she has zero self control.

  22. Kaye says:

She’s lying when she says she’s only been fat for 4 years. At least 6-8 years ago she was the spokesperson for Pier One Imports and you could tell they were doing a lot to hide her weight in the commercials. She also has said that she has always had issues with her weight, even when she was skinny. She used drugs partly to keep her weight down when she was in her 20s. I don’t mind Kirstie, but it bugs that she lies so much. Maybe she’s just lying to herself.

  23. Hautie says:

I love how uncensored Kirstie is when she does interviews. Even if she comes off crazy, she means no harm to anyone.

But the one thing that does stick out to me, is she might be into the Scientology nonsense, but I bet Kirstie is the one person they would let walk away. hahaha!

You know they see her as a threat. Kirstie loves to talk. She tells what she knows without thinking about the impact.

And I bet if those scientologist ever p*ss her off, she would set the whole place on fire. But not before telling alllll their secrets first.

She does not live in fear of them telling her secrets. But I bet money they live in fear of her telling theirs.

  24. Jennifer says:

I like her, I just wish she’d stop making such a federal issue of her weight. When OTHER people and tabloids make an issue of her weight, she gets upset. But here’s an idea: how about she stops making an issue of it? Then it won’t be one! Just be fat and happy or lose weight and be happy or whatever, but either way, BE HAPPY. And just stop yapping about it all the time.

  25. Heather says:

Well, I’m in the same boat at Kirstie! I haven’t had a relationship or umm..hit that..for almost five years. Part of it comes down to the fact I gained weight from medications my drs put me on, plus having chronic pain and a knee that never healed right even after surgery, puts limitations on what I am able to do. But I was actually in a healthy BMI and weight when my dry spell started.

I’m sure after her divorce, she focused on her kids and her career, and not necessarily a social life, because being a working mom is tough! The men around my age range, which is close to the same as Kirstie’s, are a MESS! After trying to date, I gave up because the men I kept meeting were totally mental or major issues, including alcoholics, stoners, commitmentphobic, career obsessed, sexually suspect, psycho ex-wives they let control their lives, and then the whole they aren’t really divorced or they are looking for the B.B.D. = BIGGER BETTER DEAL. It’s annoying that they aren’t content with the person they are with. It’s not Kirstie~ its the quality of men that keeps us celibant.

So Kirstie, if you read this, I am a woman in a similar situation as you. I get it! I support your efforts 100%. I hate that Hollywood is so sizeist, but after movies like ‘Precious” being such a huge success, I hope Hollywood will stop with their sizeist attitudes. Real woman are typically not a size 0. Take a cue from the recent Paris Fashion Week shows where they used “curiver” models.

  26. Jill says:

There are women like Kristie and Cybil Shepherd, who can pull off being outspoken till they turn 40 or so, when they sound coarse, not cute.

They sound desperate, self-absorbed and mannish. I imagine Tyra will be like that in a decade.

  27. Gia says:

She’s very funny and talented, but did anyone notice her hands? They seem sort of scary and very old.
