In Touch Weekly is reporting that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are having such problems in their marriage, they’ve decided to quietly separate. Except not really, they’re going to be living in adjoining homes, according to this report. This story has already been half-heartedly “debunked” by Gossip Cop and Gwyneth’s rep (the Dread Pirate Huvane, most likely), but I wanted to write about it anyway, because I have some theories about this situation. First, here’s In Touch’s report:
The distance between Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin, has already been growing for months. And now, an insider on the U.K. music scene says they’re ready to split permanently by moving into separate, but adjoining, homes in London.
“It’s fairly well known that they hardly spend any time together,” DJ Jamie Ford tells In Touch. “If you see him out, you rarely see her. He looks like a single guy out enjoying himself.”
Although they’ve been married for six years, “they have little left in common” except for the kids, Apple and Moses, reveals a friend of Gwyneth’s. There recently have been rumors of Chris cheating – which he has denied – and in October he was spotted with Kate Bosworth at a U2 concert.
“Whether he did anything or not, having people talk about it is still embarrassing for Gwyneth,” says her friend, adding that they’ve been “fighting constantly.”
For the sake of the children, Gwyneth, 37, and Chris, 33, have come up with a solution – to live discreetly apart.
“It’s doubtful they will ever divorce because what matters most is their kids coming home to a mom and dad,” says a source. “They may not have the type of marriage they used to have, but they will hold off [splitting] for everyone involved.”

Now, am I taking this as the gospel? No. Because I don’t think that this is the way Gwyneth would roll out a potential (and in my mind, inevitable) split with Chris. But I do think they will definitely split. I’m of the opinion that Chris was probably having an affair with Kate Bosworth, and God knows how many women on the road during Coldplay’s endless tours. I think Gwyneth accepted that sh-t if he was discreet, and once people started asking questions about the state of her marriage, Gwyneth realized that it might be time to call the whole thing off. And I really think for Gwyneth it’s all about timing. She’s got Iron Man 2 coming out in May, so I have a theory about how and when (and if, whatever) Gwyneth and Chris are going to split.
My guess: it’s either going to be very, very soon, so that Iron Man 2 promotion becomes all about Gwyneth, OR Gwyneth and Chris wait several months more, but announce their split strategically and rapidly. Considering we haven’t heard anything major yet, I’d say we’re going to be waiting a while longer. But it’s coming, trust me.

Yeah, I’d be surprised if they didn’t split. She made a decision based on two major emotional factors:
1) Her father had recently died, and
2) She was pregnant when they got married.
Never a good idea.

If this is true it would be a smart move to do it while all the Jesse James/ Sandra stuff is still hot. The media is still so caught up in that situatuion that her divorce announcement won’t really be focused on. Look how everyone forgot about Kate Winslet’s divorce (at least the media in the States) after the JJ scandel came out.

I heard Carol Burnett and her husband did that also…had two seperate houses with a connecting pedway…
As I get older AND wiser…I can actually see the BEAUTY in that setup…literally having my cake and telling it to go home to sleep too…SOUNDS LOVELY!!!

The two houses idea seems like a good one to keep regular contact with the children without disrupting the kids lives too much.
Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton live in houses next to each other and it seems to work well for them.

another couple that live in joining houses is Tim Burton and Helen.I read that they live in two houses because Helen doesn’t like Tim’s furniture..whatever!
On to Gwyneth,it would explain why she looks like crap.She looks tired,and like she has done a lot of crying.Who know

I love how everything that comes from In Touch about Brad/Angie is a total lie and outrageous and everything that comes from this tabloid about everyone else is true. This story has been going around for years that they are going to split. They keep their private life private and so people think that they are unhappy. These two have been fine for years and continue to be so. They ignore the tabloids and do not respond to them. The tabloids do this stuff purposely. they say stuff to make the couple come out and have pictures together and make a statement of sorts.
With Brad/Angie it works like a charm. In Touch runs a story about a split – and in a few days brad/Angie bring out the family or go to a game and hang on to each other – and then the blogs say look they are fine. Brad/chris however do not play this game. A story comes out and they ignore it – so the tabloids stop for a couple of months then try again. Chris and Gwen are not playing good for them.
I wonder if they went to a football game and hung on to each other and kissed would that made them all better.
Also it is a pretty big deal to accuse someone of an affair when there is no proof at all.

Cannot stand U2-wannabee-ripoff-band Coldplay. There. Now that’s out of my system, I have to say, if they can be friendly, the two-houses-joined idea is a great idea for the kids. It could only work though if they truly have no romantic/anger feelings toward each other, in the event of potential new partners on the scene. Regardless, I agree a split is inevitable.

BellaLuna is right. Plus, I can’t see what, other than children, these 2 have in common. GP espouses this upscale lifestyle and revels in certain kinds of luxury. Her husband seems to live a very different type of life, less materially based.

Yeah the two house thing would only work if Chris had a girlfriend over (or Gwen had a boyfriend over) and the other partner didnt flip out.

I remember an article in which the interviewer asked her about her and Chris getting married. She said something like she wanted to but he wasnt into it. Dude like a month later it was “Oops Im pregnante! We’re getting married!” Or “were OVER THE MOON!”

I agree with you guys. That pregnancy did seem a bit convenient. Not justifying anything, but the girl did have her run of bad luck. Dumped after being engaged to both Ben & Brad, and then dad died…
seems the right recipe to have an “oops” pregnancy.
And you guys are right. Very bad way to start off a marriage.

As I recall, she dumped both of them. Ben for being a frat boy (“His ideal woman would bring him beer by the pool.”) and Brad for being too clingy and marriage-hungry when she was just starting out in Hollywood & her career was going well.

i also think she dumped both ben & brad. i seem to remember in an interview awhile back brad alluded to the fact that goopy cheated on him. in any case i don’t think when a couple spends time apart it automatically equals an unhappy marriage, but i have often wondered what chris & goop have in common. she seems like a hollywood spoiled princess and he seems like a working class english guy.

I think these ticking time clocks on marriages/relationships are stupid. Usually they aren’t even true or the breakup happens years after the rumors start. For at least five years tabloids have been saying Gwen and Chris are breaking up and they are still together. There could be problems in their marriage but I don’t know why people find it amusing to insist people have relationship problems.
Brad and Angelina have nothing to do with this so why bring them up? I have to laugh at the “make a public show after breakup rumors” comments. Tabloids say they are breaking up every week yet they go weeks, sometimes several months without being seen.

The goop goddess supposedly cheated on brad with viggo mortenson when they were filming that perfect murder film with michael douglas. And yes she wanted brad to take her back. Bluck, no doubt she dumped that compulsive gambler / booze hound ben assfleck. She was on the rebound from brad when she hooked up with him anyway. Nuff said.
