Last night, The Bride premiered in London. This is the long-gestating “Bride of Frankenstein” film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Christian Bale is Frankenstein and Jessie Buckley is the Bride. Peter Saarsgard (Maggie’s husband), Jake Gyllenhaal (Maggie’s brother) and Penelope Cruz (Maggie’s ???) also star in the film. I’m including the full-length trailer below – I didn’t expect this vibe, but I’m into it. Aesthetically, it reminds me of (weirdly enough) that Cruella movie with Emma Stone (which I loved and Cruella is super-underrated).
Well, the fashion was NOT what I was expecting from this premiere, especially for Jessie Buckley. Jessie is in the middle of what will likely be her Oscar-winning awards season. She’s worn a lot of frumpy fashion for the awards shows, real “don’t look at me, I’m not a fashionista” stuff. No shade – many Best Actress frontrunners don’t want to put that pressure on themselves. But she decided to do THIS for the premiere? This is Maison Margiela Artisanal. The dress is so… sexy?? And she looks hot? I’m shook.
Other fashion notes… Maggie wore Schiaparelli, which is one of her favorite labels and the dresses are never great on her. Penelope Cruz wore Chanel (meh on that look). Jake Gyllenhaal brought his long-time love Jeanne Cadieu to the premiere. Her look is interesting.

And it looks like we are forgetting about how disgusting Jake G actually is. He is totally cancelled in my book.

Him and abuser Christian Bale are seemingly making a comeback and being belove online by people who clearly don’t know anything.
I disagree about Jessie’s dress being sexy. She does have a very sexy figure, and the dress would showcase that amazingly without being seethrough. It woud be lovely in solid black. As it is, it looks as though she has some kind of compression undergarments on that do not match her skintone.
It has just enough of an edge to it that it tumbles over the line from sexy to artistic, for me. I can see why people might consider it sexy, though.
I will go see this as thou it has a Joker and Harley Quinn vibe/style to it.
I remember Jessie Buckly from that reality TV show to find a star for a west end show – she’s done very well for herself. I loved her in the War and Peace mini series and I hope she wins.
She was fantastic as Marya in the BBC War and Peace.

I hate to say it, but Jeanne’s dress immediately made me think of those swimsuit cover-up tee shirts that have a picture of bikini bodies on them. This is just a high-end version of that tackiness…And I hate the sheer look. Those undergarments just look silly. Honestly, Penelope looks the best to me.

Maggie has the best look here — the keyhole dresses from Schiaparelli are all so cool and her (emerald?) earrings are really pretty. I do not like Jessie’s dress at all — that’s a nightgown with a corset underneath.
Jake and Jeanne look like fake people and idk how to explain that any other way.
