Brad & Angelina take UNHCR trip to Bosnia

Angelina Jolie on visit in Iraq

After spending Easter day with some or all of their children, Brad and Angelina took a little trip to Bosnia. According to the Associated Press/HuffPo, they spent time with some of the thousands of refugees that are still being assisted by the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), of which Angelina has been a goodwill abbassador for nine years. The AP stresses that Angelina and Brad didn’t pose for photos, thus, we have no photos of the trip. Enjoy these photos of Angelina during various other UNHCR missions and events. The UNHCR site hasn’t updated with any information yet either, but I’m sure they will at some point today.

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited Bosnia on Monday, intending to spotlight the plight of 117,000 people who have not able to return to their homes, even though the Bosnia war ended 15 years ago.

But they tried to do so while evading the spotlight themselves: There were no reported media sightings of the celebrity couple.

The two arrived Sunday evening, said Aida Prljaca, the spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Sarajevo.

Jolie, who has been a UNHCR ambassador since 2001, will visit projects meant to help Bosnians who cannot return home, either because their homes have not been rebuilt or the infrastructure in their villages has not been repaired.

Some 7,000 people live in dozens of refugee centers throughout the country. The other 110,000 live primarily with relatives or in rented housing.

Jolie is currently filming “The Tourist” with Johnny Depp in Italy.

[From Huffington Post]

People always forget that there is still a UN peacekeeping mission in Bosnia, and there are still peacekeepers, refugees and tragic circumstances there. Good for Angelina and Brad for going there to highlight the issues. As soon as the UNHCR updates their site, I’ll update this post. To donate to the UNHCR, go here.

I’m sure the UNHCR will release photos in a day or two as they usually do.

  2. clare says:

I hope their continued support will bring relief to these people.

  3. Wisteria says:

Amazing how she never publicly “cared” about others before she was famous or even very much before she had to do career (the source of her money) damage control after being labeled promiscuous, a homewrecker and a manipulative liar…

  4. Tazina says:

Thank you Bite Me for those photos.

  5. meme says:

did she bring her $5000 pony purse to show to the poor refugees?

  6. lisa says:

    @Wisteria:

perhaps you should do a bit of research. Her UNHCR work began in 1999.. and she has been a UNHCR ambassador. for almost 10 years. She has been very honest about her life.. choices…mistakes. all of which I may add happened before she became really famous. Yet people like you like to comment on her as if eveything she has done in the past happened yesterday. Every other person is allowed to grow and change except Angelina.. hmmm.

I like that she lives her life and does not care what people like you think. YOU obviously don’t like her, yet seem to need to follow her life

10 years is a long time to fake concern. she has given a lot of her time and money. she works in a field where she and others make millions. that honey is the American Dream. and you are not required to give a dime to anyone. She does so because she wants to. Her image is her own. and the whole homewrecher, manipulative promiscous label is just that a label. and please give proof of all these people she is supposed to have slept with. Drew B. has a much more colorful life. Yet she is not labeled because of it. So really get off you high horse. Angelina is not perfect by any means.. but she is also not the monster people like you need to label her as either.

  7. Rita says:

Wisteria, you are so ignorant and uneducated and just plain stupid. Angelina has been working with the UNHCR since 2000, TEN YEARS, and she pays all of her own expenses. She also funds a girl’s school in Kenya, supports an SOS house, and she and Brad thru their Jolie-Pitt Foundation have funded millions and millions of dollars to charities around the world including the USO here in the States for kids of wounded and killed US war soldiers and a charity in Brad’s hometown that supplies kids in school with food, clothes, and all else they need. Stop believing lies in tabloids. Both Angelina and Brad are known to be monogamous in relationships. There is no excuse for your bitterness toward these good hearted people. By the way homes are “wrecked” from within not without. All with an ounce of intelligence know that to be true.

  8. Maravilha says:

    meme@6
I was thinking the same thing! Maybe not, but it looks like she is wearing a trench coat, which is probably Burberry and costs ever $1000. People always comment on how Jennifer Aniston spends lots of money on clothes and hair products…The fact that Angelina only wears black and grey, doesn’t mean those clothes are cheap.

  9. common sense says:

Celebs routinely receive all kinds of free clothing gifts from designers including purses. Plus people do give gifts to other people as well quite often. In addition prices are often quoted at inflated amounts when actually they are sold for discounted prices. Meme I would not be so quick to repeat unverified gossip as truth. Who knows what others say about you that is not true?

  10. lena says:

    LOL @ meme

  11. Erin says:

i’m not going to hate on anyone for doing good things for others…i think what she’s doing is fantastic. however, i completely question her motives. i think she’s obsessed with her public image and this is merely an extension of that.

  12. SixxKitty says:

@wisteria: I have never gotten that from her like you do so many actresses when they realize they need the ‘public’, that whole ‘machine’ that sustains them. Being a long time AnJo fan, I believe that when she feel in love with Maddox, her priorities changed, as they do when you become a mother.

  13. KJ says:

I applaud her for trying to make a difference, but the UNHCR is problematic on so many levels. The UN in general is, esp. when it’s forces occupy countries like BIH for extended periods. I’ll never forget the allegations of NATO and UN troops participating in human trafficking/sex slavery at the Arizona Market in Bosnia. I think celebrities should think carefully before they align themselves with certain groups.

  14. common sense says:

In Venice they are renting part of a old stately restored home with a courtyard for their 6 kids and dog to venture into which the film studio pays for, which you can also rent if you want to do so. They do not live in a hotel. JohnnyD does live in a luxury hotel. By the way the highest possible is a 5 star rating. Yes they have a nanny and a tutor like many do and BGs (needed to protect them from people like you), and local staff works at the home they are renting. They do not have serfs, those are unpaid slaves you know, and I am sure the Venetians who work at their temporary home and are well paid would bristle at your description of them. What century do you live in? Bill Gates lives in an ultra mansion and is a mega billionaire yet devotes much time and funds to charity especially for the poorest of the poor in the world. So are you saying that wealthy people should not help others? If so you are a pathetic fool.

  15. Rita says:

I would suggest to any obsessed with Angelina’s clothes to go look at pics of her over the years. She appears to wear the same things pretty much over and over when not on a red carpet. Saw pixs of her with the family on an Easter egg hunt and the coat she has on has been around for at least 3-4 years in pics. She probably spends good money for things that will last and is not afraid to wear them forever. She has never been known to be clothes crazy.

  16. meme says:

oh please, angelina spends a freaking fortune on boots, shoes, bags and clothes. like someone else said, just because everything she wears is black or grey doesn’t mean it’s the same thing she’s wearing. these two are the definition of conspicuous consumption, which is what people hate, not the fact that they can afford it.

  17. meme says:

and the UN is a corrupt, useless organization.

  18. Rita says:

And please I ask, do not compare Angelina and Jennifer. They are not connected in any way, they are not rivals. They are 2 separate women who live completely separate and distinct lives. It is a disservice to both for some to continue to try to tie these 2 together. It is 2010.

  19. bite me says:

eden these types of trips are planned in advanced get a freaking clue will you

  20. bite me says:

yes Eden brangie entire life is one PR scam

  21. asiont says:

    wow, so many haters.
I think that what she is doing is wonderful and I love her for that.

  22. Stephie says:

@bite me – Great photos, thanks for posting them.

  23. common sense says:

eden, there is no BG revealing anything. Don’t you know that? If there were, the person would have a real name, not some assumed moniker, and an address and be front and center on the tv cameras like all the other tabloid attention seekers who have popped up giving interviews and making money.

IT’s editor/publisher has a vendetta against Angelina and Brad (especially Angelina), that started when Brad forbade them to attend a NOLA press conference. IT is always lying, Jennifer has said time and again she has no contact with Brad at all since the divorce, she said this again as late as last Monday in Berlin in a TV interview, yet IT is always going on about secret meetings and gifts and reunions, ALL LIES. Don’t you have enough logical thinking ability to know that after 5 years a divorced couple has long since moved on? Don’t you see how devoted Brad and Angelina are to each other and their kids? Are you blind or something?

And UNHCR trips are are always planned months in advance to work out all the logistical details, don’t you have that much rationality?

Sad that you let tabloids lies run your life.

  24. Maravilha says:

    Rita,
Calm down! This is a forum, where people can give their views about things! People are entitled to like or deslike the way celebrities do their PR. Please don’t be so unkind to call others “ignorant”, “stupid” and “uneducated”, as you did to “WISTERIA”, just because they are not Brangelina fans! That is very immature and plain rude! Celebrities, the lot of them, are generally self-centered and are out there to promote themselves. Angelina, Jennifer, JLO, etc, etc, etc, do not give a damn about what I think, but I doubt they would care what YOU think either, even if you are a big fan! So, stop insulting people when they say what they think, it is called “freedom of expression”.

  25. Iggles says:

Man, the haters are out in full force. What’s with the hate when Jolie does charity work??!!

Would you rather she be like countless other stars who spend their millions are renovating their mansion, partying with friends in Mexico, drinking expensive bottles of champagne in VIP rooms, paying for call girls, paying off mistresses, etc??

What have YOU done to help those in need? If the answer is nothing then stop b*tching about people who aim to make a difference in the world!

  26. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

Frankly, I do not care what people do with their money. They can spend it on themselves or do charitable things with it, as it is their money to with as they please.

Just because people throw money to causes, does not give them “Saint” status.

She can have a purse for $5k, it doesn’t bother me. Just as it doesn’t impress me she donates her money.

  27. Solveig says:

First of all I found out that who I dislike the most are her fans, the ones who usually are quite rude and obsessed, not Angelina.
Second, if I were a celebrity I probably wouldn’t link myself to the UN considering that this organization isn’t exactly squeaky clean.
Third, charity is a private matter, there’s no need to make it public and I’m not impressed by millionaires who don’t make sacrifices to give money to the ones in need. The best charity is the one done by people who sacrifice part of their incomings for good causes, not the one made by who s*it dollars every morning.
In any case every cent is important no matter who gives it to charity, but I will never be impressed by those so-called philanthropists.

  28. meme says:

excuse me, iggles, but brangelina have spent MILLIONS on renovating homes that they buy and then live in for 2 weeks before moving on. and in their private lives, i’m sure they live in super deluxe mode.

  29. Mimi says:

Ok this is a blog/site like millions of others out there in the internet where people all over the world enter and give their opinions so if you are going to criticize a public person you might as well expect people from all over the world to say what they think about your comment specially if you say BS like is true and your source is a tabloid mag. The difference is that the fans respond to these allegations with things that already have being said and prove and haters go find most of the allegations from doubtful sources or resort in old quotes and behaves from 10 plus years ago like was yesterday to make a silly point as if people or specifically Angie were not able to change.

And by the way the freedom of expression applies to the ones that say BS and to the ones that questioned this type of people and their comment’s.
I prefer see that are people in here that still use common sense and that don’t use the anonymous of the net to say shit about others but to clarifier things with facts and calling out those other people that from the other side of the monitor just seems full of hate for no good reason.
And is not like the ones in here that don’t like these 2 will not call others haters when they said something about their idols.

  30. JM says:

    Wisteria –
WHo cares about the motives? Isn’t the important thing that she’s drawing attention to important causes? Not to mention she gives millions and millions to them?

When was the last time YOU stepped up and helped an important cause?

  31. JM says:

Don’t you think half of the clothes she wears were probably free? Designers inundate celebrities in hopes that they’ll wear their clothes.

As for being so public about it . . . I think the UN WANTS its celebrities to be public, to bring attention to the issues and maybe encourage more volunteers. That’s what her role is.

  32. Diva says:

LOL… cracks me up that people discount the GOOD rich people do by pointing out that they live a RICH life most of the time. Of fucking COURSE they do, they’re RICH, lol. Living overly well and giving time and money to charity are NOT exclusive of one another! In fact, they’re generally hand-in-hand, with a few exceptions.

  33. e-non says:

oh, fer chrissakes. her un work was prompted by her experience while filming in africa where she witnessed victims and the aftermath of a nearby civil war. after that she decided to learn about issues that she had never concerned herself with; and shortly thereafter the lara croft/cambodia experience — a country still recovering from years of slaughter and cruelty, and where she was motivated to adopt her first child.

the u.n. is not going to waste their efforts on someone who is not capable of fulfilling their obligations.

  34. jules says:

“And she brought along a full camera crew to publicize her being there.” I think you forgot that part of your headline, Celebitchy.

  35. Whatever says:

People who hate her would hate her no matter what she does. Good for her for trying to bring issues to the attention of others to get help for those who need it. I’m sure there are plenty of people who don’t know that people are still suffering in Bosnia 15 years later. It does inspire people to give to certain causes, so I don’t see the reason to hate on them for helping.

  36. Cue says:

    Amazing, these comments.
Yes, when you have money you CAN donate and help, but many do not..it does not go ‘hand in hand’.

She and her family could be sitting enjoying all their monies in peace w/o all these ‘haters’..but no, they are helping the world. Oh..it has been said over and over by other posters here, why all the hate?

I just read Penelope Cruz was on the beach vacationing in her bikini, does not this person have the financial means to be donating and actually using her fame to do the same as the Jolie-Pitts’?

Just using her as an example .. (Penelope)…

Some of these posters — ignorant.

  37. lisa says:

I better go check the other celeb thread to see if people are pissed at the amount of money the spend.. I bet they are really giving to everyone..

    OR NOT

OH I forgot. If you help others you have to live in a hovel to prove you care.. Dang.. I better sale my house and car to live on the streets. I support a lot of charities.. I had no idea that was the rule.

  38. anon says:

The “spotlight” was on the refugees? So why have we only seen photos of Pitt and Jolie?

  39. meme says:

I wouldn’t be comparing brangelina with Bill & Melinda Gates’ whose foundation WILL impact the world for the better in a tangible way. brangelina will not.

  40. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

@Cue- And how do you know Penelope does not use her money to help others? Maybe she chooses not to publicize it, like many other actors, producers, directors and singers choose not to. Not everyone who is famous boasts about what they do to help others.

Just because you don’t read about them, doesn’t mean they don’t donate!

  41. Melanie says:

They probably feel a little guilty for renting out a private island for an Easter egg hunt. Hence the charity trip, one cancels out the other.

  42. anon says:

Cue – according to Wikipedia: “Cruz has donated a considerable amount of money and time to charity. In addition to her work in Nepal, Cruz has volunteered in Uganda and India, where she spent a week working for Mother Teresa that included assisting in a leprosy clinic. That trip had inspired Cruz, leading to her helping start a foundation to support homeless girls in India, where she personally sponsors two young women. She was also inspired to donate her entire salary from her first Hollywood movie, The Hi-Lo Country, to help fund the late nun’s mission. Cruz has shown an interest in photography, and in the early 2000s she spent time in Nepal photographing Tibetan children for an exhibition that was attended by the Dalai Lama, as well as photographing some of the residents at the Pacific Lodge Boys’ Home, most of whom are former gang members and recovering substance abusers.”

  43. Kim says:

I doubt the people who benefit from the charities they support care why they support the charity. I’m sure the Haitans who received medical care from Doctors w/o Borders are grateful for the 1 million donation from Brad and Angie, Sandra Bullock and the countless other people that donated money . I’m sure the people in New Orleans with new homes are appreciative of the 5 million donation from JP Foundation to MIR. I’m would guess the 2 million they donated to Global Health Initiative to open an AIDS/TB clinic in Ethiopia will help thousands of sick people. I’ve decided to combat negativity with positivity in my comments. I’m glad they visited Bosnia and were able to hear some of the refugee stories. If you are interested in the refugees stories go to UNHCR website. A woman on yuku jjb thanked them for bringing attention to the refugees who have been displaced for over 15 years.I’m sure the Jolie Pitt Foundation will also benefit the world on a smaller scale.Every little bit helps imo

  44. Mimi says:

See here is the problem WHY can’t some people that works and get paid for what they do and have resorts to give money and their time for people in need are being so heavily criticizes?
Why the 2 pesos and 2 measures from celebrity to celebrity? Specially when they do it for as long as Angie and others like Cloney have being doing?

Some of you here hate them because they gain a lot of money because of their work, then you hate then because they donate part of their money and sometimes their time and now you hate then because they have money enough to buy nice things to then and live with luxury, safety and helpers but still donate their money and time… WHERE is the logic?
And if you can hate on the JP will have to hate every celebrity/millionaire out there specially one of the most richest man on the earth how dare Bill Gates have so much money donate and STILL live in mansions and have private jets cars help staffs etc… He’s being a hypocrite he needs to donate every thing he’s have and be poor this way he will be a good person… “roll eyes”

  45. PB&J says:

Good for her! Such an inspiration to young women who might think that they don’t fit the typical mold of a global-savvy humanitarian. Keep up the good work Angie, and don’t let the haters, with their murky logic, get you down!

  46. Lilias says:

I have to agree that a lot of celebrities to charitable work but don’t publicize it.

It’s fine if they do and fine if they don’t.

Just don’t assume that “not hearing about it” means “not doing it at all”.

  47. daisyfly says:

If the future of humanity could be judged on what was said in just this post alone, we’re all doomed as a species.

“Hey, look – she’s drawing attention to humanitarian causes, causes she’s dedicated her life to for the past ten years, but who cares? She spent thousands of dollars on that coat!”

    FFS…

  48. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz says:

So Meme, what have YOU done lately to make the world a better place? You know, other than spewing vitriol about people actually *doing* something about that is. Do tell.

And being humanitarian and charitable doesn’t mean you have to live in squalor or live in a modest shack somewhere. The act of giving, whatever it is you can, be it money or time or both, is more than enough for the grateful recipients of that kindness. And it IS a kindness because guess what, not everyone does it, even when they can afford it.

Brad and Angelina do. And they still get crap for it? Ridiculous.

  49. kladusa says:

I don’t understand why she is wearing a protection vest when the war ended 15 years ago? Bosnia is actually a civilized country. No one needed any type of bullet proof vests in Bosnia (Yugoslavia) until the “stronger western countries” came in with “Democracy”. How many thousands of homeless people roam America and sleep under overpasses or bridges, whatever? They have enough people to worry about and save in America before going to other countries and pretending to care about the “poor refugees”.

  50. N.D. says:

2kladusa – the picture of her wearing vest is from Iraq not from Bosnia.

  51. Cheyenne says:

@Solveig: Why do you care why they do it, as long as they do it? They are doing some good, as opposed to some celebrities who sit on their asses and do nothing. So what’s your problem?

  52. Mimi says:

    @kladusa CAN YOU ACTUALLY READ?…
Brad and Angelina took a little trip to Bosnia. According to the Associated Press/HuffPo, they spent time with some of the thousands of refugees that are still being assisted by the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), of which Angelina has been a goodwill ambassador for nine years.
The AP stresses that Angelina and Brad didn’t pose for photos, thus, we have no photos of the trip.
ENJOY THESE PHOTOS OF Angelina DURING VARIOUS OTHERS UNHCR MISSIONS AND EVENTS.

And yes are people in USA that need help… so the rest of the world doesn’t count? you probably criticizes people that you know that donate to Haiti or maybe you donate how could you do that (if you did donate) when is so many that need help in your country?

  53. Beth says:

People should read the story before bashing Angelina. She didn’t take photographers with her and the photographs shown are from past UN trips not Bosnia. I have to laugh at the hypocrite comments. The haters think it’s fine for every other celebrity to live in mansions, go on vacations, etc but Angelina is supposed to live in a shack and can’t buy expensive clothing? Also Angelina doesn’t publicize her donations and trips the media does. A lot of stars like Reese Witherspoon, Ben Affleck, Sienna Miller recently announced foundations, donations, and trips but most blogs/sites barely reported them. Just a quick story or just a link to another site. Anytime Brad or Angelina make a donation they get long articles. Also a lot of their donations come from their foundation which is of public record. That’s why the media knows about most of their donations.

  54. kladusa says:

Who is at fault for such a dramatic difference in lifestyles? Where people like Brad and Angelina have money practically growing on trees, and these refugees and millions of others around the world are dieing from starvation. What have they done for these people other than listen to their sad stories and pretend to care? nothing.

  55. Solveig says:

Cheyenne, I have no problem with them (brangelina), actually. And if you read properly my previous comment you can find it out (to quote myself: “In any case every cent is important no matter who gives it to charity, but I will never be impressed by those so-called philanthropists.”)
The only thing I meant is that charity is a private matter, and that I’m not impressed with millionaires who give some of their huge incomings to the ones in need, and finally I find more inspiring common people who are able to sacrifice and make an effort to let others living a life in dignity.
You probably did not pay attention to my other posts but I say the very same thing about other celebrities who make announcements everytime they give money.
As you can see it’s not just Brangelina…

  56. Cheyenne says:

@kladusa: Are you saying Brad and Angie are responsible for the plight of the refugees? I realize haters gon’ hate, but that is really pushing it.

What have you done for anyone less fortunate than you lately? I thought not.

  57. Robyn says:

Angelina gives 1/3 of her income to charity. ONE THIRD. Granted, when you make $15 million/movie, you still have $10 million for purses and shoes, which I don’t begrudge.

I don’t care the motives, that kind of money is going to help those people who are in unfortunate circumstances. I don’t give 1/3 of my (paltry by comparison) income, so I’m gonna shut my mouth about what she “should” do.

  58. teri says:

I’m happy that we have people like Angelina who truly care about others. She’s so young but she was hit by a ton of bricks while doing Tomb Raider and seeing how people are suffering. I guess it doesn’t affect you unless you see if first hand. Love Brad and Angelina and the other people helping. Young people like Angie do make a difference. Her actions speak louder than words. Thankfully Brad jumped on her side to help as well.

  59. Charity is Chic says:

Robyn, according to Brad and Angelina’s tax returns they do NOT give a third of their income. They have given approx. 1/3 of the money they got selling pictures of the kids to People magazine. $35 million for domestic and international rights to Shiloh and the twins. Of that they have given away $10 million and have been sitting on the rest for more than two years now.

Just because someone claims they give do something doesn’t mean they actually do.

  60. Solveig says:

Robyn, probably your 1/3 (mine for sure) gives you the chance to live in a decent manner allowing you not to starve yourself, while in her (and others) case the money is so much that she can live a great life even with 1/10 of what she earns in one year.
I think that you cannot make a believable comparision between those millionaires and us mere mortals.

Ps: why are they wearing bulletproof jackets and no helmets?

  61. andrea says:

frankly i think that when you are paid gazillions of dollars to work a few months a year at a job where you are coddled gives you a RESPONSIBILITY to do things like this. those with excessively greater resources have greater responsibility. of course its not a “Bad” thing that they do this stuff – it just hardly makes them freaking saints – that people are breathless over them doing it just shows how low our expectations are for public figures – these people rented an ISLAND for an easter egg hunt just for their own kids – you’d have to be blind to not see even a shred of hypocrisy in their showing up in fing bosnia two seconds later – and, yes, no doubt, wearing clothes that could probably feed the village they’re in for a good while.

yes, i think bill gates should lose the jets and mansions, even tho he runs a foundation. where is the point of ENOUGH for one person/family? if you have six mansions, and there are starving people in the world, something is wrong. is two mansions enough? three? if someone makes fifteen million PER MOVIE and they give away one third of their income, i am really not all that impressed. these people are ACTORS, theyre not freaking curing cancer or saving the world. i think some people on here need to come back to reality and raise their expectations. so, after making zillions of dollars, going to hollywood events wearing emeralds the size of golf balls, and renting an entire island for the holiday, they take a few trips now and then to bosnia and wherever else and give away what is not a lot of money for them and im a “hater” for not falling down with gratitude for them? give me a break. no one is saying they shouldnt do it. im saying its the LEAST they could do. these are not the “heroes” of the world.

  62. lena says:

    @ Andrea…well said!

  63. Mimi says:

GIVE ME A BREAK when will come the day that you all be SMART enough to HATE THE GAME NOT THE PLAYER what actors make are not even 1/3 of what the studios does I refuse to hate people just because they make more money then me just because there is still are poor people on the streets and in the rest of the world.

And i refuse be HYPOCRITICAL enough to want people that are able to make Millions with ideas that change the world or entertaining others with their works. Because ANYONE IN HERE would NOT give way your Millions that you earn from WHATEVER REASONS (legal reasons) just because you fell sorry for the POOR people on the streets don’t be DELUSIONAL they didn’t make these people poor or suffer Our Form of CAPITALISM/MATERIALISM AND NEED of measuring wealth and fame by the amount of money and appearance did.

So stop with the BS that they make million and have nice things and still go visit the poor and give way money to charity like it was a Bad thing.

  64. Aussie Mama says:

It’s wonderful that they are making people aware. Unfortunately it’s a dismal dip in the ocean. The rich billionaires own all the weapons and ammunition companies, so they profit from war, because they sell gazillions in arms to each side. Then when the war stops, they also own the construction companies, who go in, always win the rebuilding contracts, so they make money again. Weather countries are in war, or just out, they make money, obscene amounts. It is an evil system, which has been around from day dot. The powers to be really don’t give a damn about the people, it’s always been about $$$$ and power and it always will be. the only way to stop it, is to killuminati!

  65. teri says:

It really sounds if several only care about themselves and asking why the JP aren’t helping them out. They have done far greater things as in adopting three children they’ll provide for also. Do you really expect this family of 8 to give up everything you say is a life of luxery to prove they care? Why are you really picking Angelina apart? Is it Jen?

  66. Lilias says:

Solveig has an excellent point. I personally think that charity is a private thing.

Some people have all the time and money in the world to do charity and when they do it’s lovely and all but they aren’t the ones who I truly admire. It’s not a bad thing that they give a small amount of their copious amounts of time and money but people tend to give a little bit when they have a lot.

I admire those who go out of their way and use what little spare time they have to help out less fortunate people than themselves.

Calling attention to a tragedy and throwing money at it is great and all but I find it a bit more admirable to build a house, hand out food or organize donated items, especially if that is all you can do. For some people, all they can spare are their old clothes to Goodwill or two weekends a month at a food bank.

Cheyenne, like I said: Just because you haven’t heard a celebrity has done charity all over the news or this site, doesn’t mean they haven’t done it at all. For someone who doesn’t want their idols judged for why they do their charity, you are awfully judgmental of others.

  67. Robyn says:

    Charity/Chic,
I may have heard it wrong (clearly)–I haven’t seen their tax returns and heard in some report she gives 1/3 her income, where it might have been 1/3 of something else. Shame on her for only donating $10 million dollars to her causes of choice.

    Solveig,
Point taken, her life and mine = apples and oranges. But she is no more compelled to donate than anyone else, and donates large sums of money. I admit that while I do have some charities I am close to/donate, I don’t donate “until it hurts”. And neither does she. Doesn’t make her better or worse than us “average” Joes. But her donations, regardless of % income or it’s impact on her, are significantly more helpful than mine would be.

And I still manage to own a few fabulous “things” as well.

    Andrea,
I understand the intent behind this comment (I think), but what you are describing is a socialist state. Just because someone has money does not make them ENTITLED or RESPONSIBLE to give it away. I don’t think we should look on them as heros, but certainly not with all the hate, either.

  68. sandy says:

team brange, can’t do any wrong in my book, the same people complaining about our country needing help, should help and stop being hypocritical, otherwise STHU. you won’t help, but criticize those who do. they don’t need publicity, they have it already, like it or not, they are great together.

  69. Cheyenne says:

@solveig: Why should charity be private if publicizing it makes people aware of the problem and encourages them to get involved? It’s called using your celebrity for a good purpose and I don’t see a thing wrong with it. Why would you?

  70. andrea says:

    Robyn,

I respectfully disagree. If they were req’d to give more by the gov, that would be a socialist-ish. I don’t think they should be req’d to do it – I think they should just do it. I don’t just mean the brange – I mean anybody who has enough for, like, several generations, of wealth. People should be able to be wealthy – but when you’re talking about numbers like $300M – you could give away $250M and still live the same fabulous lifestyle, and meanwhile feed several small countries. yes, they gave $1M for haiti. great. thats $1M haiti wouldnt otherwise have. but its, like, maybe 3 months *interest* on, like *one* of their bank accounts. and a huge tax write-off. and renting an island for an egg hunt is ridiculous, the epitome of “an embarrassment of wealth” and doing it the day before you go to bosnia is just gauche.

what brange/travolta/cruise, spend on egg hunts/jets/suri clothes, could pay for educations, surgeries, etc.

  71. oh hey says:

Some of the comments are a trip. I think the best conclusion is that people will hate AJ no matter what she does. Even if she gave everything up tomorrow and lived in a trailer, buying from the bulk item stores to save money, cut coupons, and wore the latest fashions for Dots, Rainbow and Payless, some people will still hate her. In their minds, it’s not enough that she’s a “homewrecker” twice over, had a crazy past with drugs and bizzarre antics, but she’s all of those things has the nerve to have more money than them.

People are entitled to love or hate any celebs they want, but to spend a good portion of your day writing in a comments section, really?

I echo the statement that just because people don’t hear about some celebs’ charitable work doesn’t mean they do it. How much would it matter anyway considering that commenters will either say “Oh, they’re bringing attention to themselves!” if you did hear about it or “I’ve never heard about them giving money to charities, they’re greedy bastards!” if you didn’t.

  72. J says:

It doesn’t matter what her intentions are. The fact that she brings a lot of attention to the poor around the world is enough. If I didn’t stumble upon a picture of her amongst poor kids on a gossip site, I would never have started donating to charities. And I don’t even make a lot of money.

  73. Bite me says:

How the hell did you get access to her persoanl tax return. Some of you do know that she runs more than just the jolie-Pitt foundation right, so it’s very possible that she does donate 1/3 of her salary to charity. The only tax returns that these repoerts go looking for every year is for the Jolie- Pitt foundation and MIR which is avaible on there website

  74. miranda says:

You do all realise that the Jolie-Pitt’s move around so much that it’s unlikely they pay much, if any, tax. I think all of us would give 20% of our income to charity if we’d avoided giving 40% to the taxman!!!

  75. N.D. says:

Charity is Chic, I’m real curious how did you get an access to the information about their personal tax returns.

  76. Crash2GO2 says:

They probably rented an island because it was the best way they could ensure the privacy and safety of their children as they ran amuck and searched for eggs. Just a thought.

I think it’s great they do this stuff. I think it’s great any celebrity brings causes to the forefront. Does this mean I think they are a happy couple, or that I am a ‘fan’? No. But that is not relevant to this discussion.

  77. kim says:

N.D., didn’t you know Charity is Chic is their CPA, GMAB. She is confusing the tax returns for their foundations with their personal tax returns. They donate money from their personal accounts(Brad ‘s donation to Prop 8)and from ther foundation($5 million for MIR and $2 million to GHI for the AIDS/TB Clinic in Ethiopia, million for Doctors w/o Borders etc…). As for not using all the money from the pics foundations and charities keep funds in reserves to use as they allocate grants. The Red Cross still hasn’t used all the money donated for Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and over the over $billion donated to Haiti only $350 million has been spent. BTW the pics from above are from another UN trip in Iraq I think

  78. Mikunda says:

Jeez, it’s her money – she can spend it each and every way she likes and she does not owe you, haters, anything. She is a good and honest person and I wish the Anistons in the world would take a leaf off her book when it comes to things like responsibility, accountability, honesty. Seriously girls, you will never have her money, so you might as well get over it. Envy is a bad, bad monster that can hurt you badly. Take some magnesium – it will calm your nerves, I swear.
