While Tiger Woods parties, Elin prepares to stay in Sweden

The Masters - Round One

Tiger Woods has been partying, and wherever and whenever Tiger parties, you know there’s trouble (and whores). Earlier this week, Tiger made his first big non-golf-related outing when he went to a Nickelback concert and “partied backstage surrounded by a security team” according to People Magazine. Which I think is probably a nice way of saying “banged some Nickelback groupies while his enablers watched”. He’s also been hanging with friends, and acting like a single guy. So, where’s Elin? Oh right. She took the kids and went to Sweden, Icelandic volcanic ash be damned. According to Radar, Elin “plans to spend her time there visiting friends and family and considering what she wants to do about her marriage.” Oh, and People has Elin doing extensive remodeling done to her Swedish estate, almost as if she’s planning on staying for a while. Considering Elin and Tiger have apparently (according to Radar) only spent three nights in the same city in a month, many are wondering aloud if we’re witnessing a formal separation. A “source” tells Us Weekly that Elin and Tiger’s divorce is “100% happening”. Here’s more:

Sweden is lovely this time of year — too bad Tiger Woods isn’t there with his Swedish wife Elin and their daughter Sam, 2, and son Charlie, 14 months.

While the golfer (he placed fourth in the Masters earlier this month) stays behind in the U.S., “Elin and the kids are out there visiting with [Elin’s] family in Stockholm,” a family source explains to UsMagazine.com.

Meanwhile, the insider says that “nonstop construction” continues on the $3 million home in Vaxholm which Elin purchased in December. “She is definitely planning on spending a lot of time there — they are gutting it,” the source says of the private-island estate on Sweden’s west coast.

The mom and former model, 30, is “working hard” to speed up renovations. “She and the kids are going to be spending most of the summer there,” the source says. “Without Tiger.”

Also on Elin’s to-do list: divorce Woods, 34, who publicly acknowledged and apologized for his infidelity in February after being linked to over a dozen women.

“It’s 100% happening,” the insider says of the split. “Elin and her mom met with a lawyer before they went to Sweden.”

But don’t expect those proceedings to go quickly, cautions the source. “It’s going to take a long time to go through. [But] she will go through with it. She is all about being a mom. She will do it slowly and carefully.”

As for Tiger, TMZ reports that the golfer caught a Nickelback concert in Orlando, Fla. on Monday night, and “partied backstage” with the rock band. He is scheduled to compete in the Quail Hollow Championship near Charlotte, NC next week.

CB has been a lot kinder to Elin throughout this whole situation, and while I totally respect CB’s opinion, and I do feel so much sympathy for Elin, I also wanted Elin to get to this point a lot sooner. I recognize that it’s different when you have children with a man, and I get that Elin probably really loved Tiger, and it took her some time to understand that her marriage wasn’t at all what she once thought it was. But when the porn stars and hookers and Denny’s waitresses are coming out of the woodwork, you’re allowed to get mad and make a spectacle and throw his ass to the curb publicly. Maybe she’s reaming Tiger privately, and I’m totally off-base. Eh.

Meanwhile, Tiger’s new team of handlers/enablers is really mad at the turn of events, what with Tiger bangin’ groupies and Elin descending into a volcanic ash cloud rather than spend time with the father of her children. PopEater had the scoop:

Sources close to Tiger Woods tell me that they are “mad as hell” that the troubled golfer thought it would be a good idea to attend a Nickelback concert and party backstage while his wife Elin and the couple’s two young children took off for Sweden.

“Everyone around team Tiger has been working 24/7 to regain control of his image. Everything from carefully releasing pictures of him jogging to staging a press conference for his return to playing golf. No detail was too small to be overlooked,” an insider tells me. “Then after all that work and planning, Tiger decides that he must attend a concert by his favorite band and dance backstage while his wife is away. It’s a disaster. Everyone is at the point of giving up trying to help him.”

I’m not sure how many more chances Tiger is going to get. We already know the man doesn’t have the best judgment, but Nickelback? This just makes me think even less of the troubled golfer. I would understand if it were Bon Jovi … but Nickelback? Really?

[From PopEater]

Tiger is a f-cking idiot. He literally has no idea how to handle his fame when everyone is not kissing his ass. He might be a world-class golfer, but we know now that he’s severely lacking in the intelligence department. And the “not screwing the skankiest pieces out there” department. Hopefully, Elin and the kids will enjoy Sweden so much they’ll decide to stay there.

I am so pleased to read that Elin and the kids are in Sweden and Tiger’s “handlers” are pissed at him. I wonder if his press team uses the same “handlers” as Blohan? Because these two are some out-of-control, sick puppies. I can think of fewer things I’d like better than Tiger receiving a massive head-slap from all the OTHER people who’ve worked so hard to try to actually redeem him in the public’s eyes. I also volunteer on the public’s behalf to tell them they’ve failed, and we’re okay with it if they want to give up.

  2. YT says:

I doubt anything interesting happened backstage because the story would have been sold to the tabs by now, though it was a dumb idea for a public outing.

  3. suz says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA a NICKELBACK concert?!?!! I can’t…

  4. Iris says:

Wow. I didn’t think it was possible, but I lost even more respect for Tiger. Nickelback is his favorite band?! Clearly he has no taste in any aspect of his life.

  5. Tazina says:

So he likes Nickelback. You’re just “assuming” he was banging groupies backstage. Not saying he wasn’t but why crucify the guy when you have zero proof. He can’t go out with his friends to a concert?

  6. SweB says:

Maybe the reason that Elin did not take off straight away was because of custody issues? I don’t know how these things work, but I have a feeling that if she just took the kids and left for Sweden, without getting the details worked out first through lawyers, that could cause problems when she does get a divorce and a custody agreement has to be settled later on. Also, most swedish people don’t like to show emotion publicly and Elin seems to be a private person anyway so it would be out of character for her to act out publicly. You can be certain, however, that Tiger has had his balls busted privatley though. The fact that she did not attend the masters and did not show up for his little sowwy speach speaks volumes as to what she thinks of her marriage. Ovva!

  7. Lantana says:

Love the outfit. Peace and the Beatles and $300 jeans? Can I say silver spoon?

  8. happymom says:

I think she’s shown so much class by not talking to the press-whether it be the tabloids OR Oprah-and just taking care of her family. I wish everyone could take the high road like this. (Of course, then who would I have to gossip about?)

  9. Beth says:

I don’t know why people keep bashing Elin and Sandra for not filing for a divorce quick enough. They were in a happy marriage and were caught off guard when they found out their husbands weren’t the men they thought they were. Also kids are involved. Although Sandra is a stepparent she still love Jesse’s kids as her own. Maybe behind the scenes they are going through the divorce process (settlement, visitation, etc) so that they don’t have go through it all publically.

Obviously it’s really bad PR to go out when your wife is out of town. But I think people are making too big of a deal of going out to dinner and attending a concert. When I think of partying I think getting drunk and going to strip clubs. It seems that Tiger had rated G outings. What’s wrong with Nickelback? I’m not a huge fan but I like a some of their songs.

  10. padiddle says:

Kaiser -I usually think you are spot on but respectfully have to disagree. I’m so so glad Elin didn’t make a spectacle in public and throw his ass to the curb. Why should she? So her children can be hurt and embarrassed years later when they see how mommy and daddy’s dirty laundry was all over the place. Her dignity and quietness suggests to me that she has her children as a number one priority, a rarity in the world of celebrities and people like Jon and Kate. She’s actually being a responsible parent, and I applaud her for that.

  11. Feebee says:

First thought – he PARTYING?? Second thought – why the hell not. Seems to be yet another signal the marriage is over and if that’s the case, carry on sir. He didn’t really change his behaviour in order to save his marriage so if it’s over why bother changing now?

  12. YT says:

Elin needs to take her time with her divorce from Tiger. First, there are the children and final custody arrangements to consider. Second, the amount of money she gets from Tiger with the divorce will be complicated by the tax laws in the U.S. and in Sweden (very high personal income tax). There is no reason to rush into a divorce. They can stay married for years and never see one another. The decisions will be made by Elin and Tiger, not the press and public curiosity.

  13. Jag says:

From the beginning, I thought that Elin was remodeling that house to live in later, perhaps using it as a vacation home. Little did she know that she might be moving into it permanently. I like that she’s taken the kids and has gone home. Certainly, there were details that had to be attended to about her taking the kids out of the country, and I’m glad she’s actually seeming to get all of that straight, heading for a divorce. If she does divorce him and it comes out that she was so controlled about all of this in order to expedite it, I will take back anything negative that I’ve said about her so far.

Tiger, on the other hand, has no concept of anything other than himself. I like Nickleback, so can’t fault him for that, but partying backstage was bad for his image. Go out to eat, go to concerts, but don’t party backstage. Hopefully, his PR team will drop him, cos that would be funny. He doesn’t care about anything other than himself.

  14. Tess says:

Fact is Tiger likes to party. That’s the reality, and it most likely will not change for the foreseeable future.

If Elin wants to protect herself and her children from the dreary spectacle of Tiger’s endless parade of blonds, she oughta make the break final.

  15. simplicity says:

These two men, both TW and JJ, I don’t expect to see change. Their wives were present for a public image, and to build credibility, while they continued with a life style they prefer.

It doesn’t appear as if either of these men were faithful from first meeting and through the relationship.

  16. princess pea says:

A divorce is a lot like a death, in my eyes. It’s just that the thing that died was your marriage, instead of your partner. But they are similar in terms of loss and feelings of disappointment, especially when it comes kind of out of the blue.

You have to go through the acceptance stages at your own pace, and I don’t feel cool about criticising anyone for the rate they’re moving. I wouldn’t cheer you on if you were maligning Michelle Williams for taking time off after Heath died, even though they weren’t married, or for spitting on Liam Neeson for going back to work when Natasha died. The last thing that should matter to Elin is what everyone else thinks she should do, or wants to see.

There are also likely legal processes here that will slow things down; there’s a lot of money on the line.

  17. Wow says:

So she’s in Sweden with her little kids Cashflow and Dividend to check up on her pay off. And he’s back to his usual, not seeming to care what she does. Things seem back to normal for those two love birds.

  18. lucy2 says:

I doubt either will change too.
If he wants to convince his fans and his corporate sponsors that he’s a changed man, even if he’s not, he needs to be smarter about PR until his personal issues have been resolved. Partying backstage at a concert (no matter how lame) is just not a good idea right now.

  19. cindy says:

Oh I think she is great. She busted his window out with one of his golf clubs. She has substance.

  20. Huma says:

AHAHAHA. Nothing says stupid douche like hanging out backstage at a Nickelback concert. I’m GLAD his handlers are all ASDFJKL;ASDFJKL;ASDFJKL;. Hahaha. Good.

  21. Meimei says:

    @SweB:

It might be considered a child abduction, and justifiably so, no matter how one feels about Cheetah. And it certainly isn’t the best thing to do if you actually wish to retain the custody of your kids.

  22. eggy weggs says:

Ewww, Nickelback! He needs another press conference just to address that issue!

  23. anon says:

Why don’t y’all back up off of Nickelback?! LOL (seriously though). We don’t care about the cheater stories anymore; they’re old. Who cares if she divorces or stays or whatever? I mean… really?

  24. Carrie says:

    OK, speaking as an attorney:

Like others have said, if Elin relocated with the kids to Sweden without Tiger’s “permission” and without a custody order already in place, she would be in violation of the Hague Convention on Child Abduction. Since both the US and Sweden are signatories to the Convention and bound by its terms, Tiger would be able to formally request through the court system that the children be returned to him.

The custody issues involved in a transnational family are really complex- one parent can’t just take the kids to another country if the marriage doesn’t work out without first putting some formal arrangements in place.

The Convention dictates that the children be returned to their “habitual residence” as determined by the Court, which would most certainly be the US.

All of this is to say, if Elin’s master plan involves she and the kids relocating permanently to Sweden (as I imagine it probably does) then there are a lot of details to work out with Tiger about custody- if he doesn’t play nice, she could wind up in a situation where the children are not permitted to change residence from the US and she’s stuck here.

Divorce is not something to be rushed- especially with the kinds of assets and custody issues I am sure these two have.

  25. Cinderella says:

If I had a choice between a Nickelback concert and Sweden, I’d pick Sweden.

    Nickelback has nothing on ABBA.

  26. Bored@Work says:

Isn’t it obvious? Tiger wants out of the marriage. I don’t understand why everybody thinks that he wants to get back together with Elin. A man who did the things that he did, cheating with so many women obviously don’t want to be married. His image is already shattered so he is just doing what he probably wanted to do a long time. Being free, he has not acted like a married man in a while. He’s probably laughing at the turn of events as pretty soon he’ll be divorced and prowling free as a bird. Elin will maintain custody of the kids, he pays the bills while remaining free. A small drop in the bucket of his enormous fortune.

Its just what he wanted, probably not on this scale, but I think it was all part of the grand plan. Maybe reveal a few indiscretions to her, have her divorce him and him moving on with his life while calling it “an amicable split”. I am sure he never bargained for this media storm though, henece him trying to act as if he wants to remain married and is trying to change. I just think that without all this media about the many women of Tiger, it would only be a matter of time before he would announce his divorce.

So sad though, because his children will be the product of a broken home and no matter how much money he will pay, if he is not there physically, she will be a single mother none the less.

Also, I doubt Tiger would care about Elin getting custody of the kids, not sure how much time he spends with them anyway. No doubt he loves his kids but he doesn’t seem to be a hands on dad.

  27. Juice in LA says:

Nickelback has groupies? and btw- “Nickelback”!? Couldn’t find a Hootie and the blowjobs jam eh?

  28. mel says:

@Bored@work, I totally agree Tiger could give a rats a$$ about his wife and kids, its so obvious. He would rather pay up and move on with his life. I hope later on he will look back and regret what he has done to his family. You can make all the money in the world but cant buy your kids time back. What a slumbag.

  29. Jaxx says:

Elin is well rid of the pig. I used to admire him so much. Had us all fooled didn’t he?

  30. Emily says:

I wish I could say I’m surprised he (or anyone, really) likes Nickelback, but suddenly, everything makes so much sense.
