Billy Corgan tells Courtney Love to “go live off your husband’s money”

CB and I were debating whether or not Courtney “Michelle” Love looks high on life in these photos. When we were first glancing through them, we both thought that Courtney was stoned out her mind. Now that I’m really looking, though, she might just be tired and burned out. Eh. Either/or. Anyway, Courtney was performing songs from her new album, which you can read more about here. I found it boring, but whatever.

What I do find interesting, however, is the ongoing war between Courtney and her ex-lover Billy Corgan. Apparently, Billy and Love are engaged in some kind of Twitter war, but it’s not about what you think (drugs). It’s about Courtney using/performing Billy’s songs without his permission, and after he expressly told her not to:

Grab your popcorn! Billy Corgan and Courtney Love are on a collision course, and we all have tickets to the show. Without any clear provocation, Corgan fired off a full-blown Twitter tirade yesterday, telling the Hole frontwoman to “go [somewhere] nice and live off [Kurt Cobain’s] money”.

The squabble couldn’t be happening to two nicer publicity junkies. “Have your moment,” Corgan sneered – to the baying cries of his 40,000 Twitter followers. “Burn up in the sun that laughs at [you] as equally as it appears to celebrate [you and] sleep knowing [you] have no honour.” This, about seven hours after Love complained – to a mere 28,000 followers – that she was “waiting on a man whose every whim I’ve tried to engage and take like a white hot knife to the belly”.

Corgan and Love were two of the biggest stars of 90s rock, and lovers before that. But their more recent relationship is complicated. While Corgan wrote songs for Love’s new solo album, he later tried to claw the tunes back. “It would be a real big problem [if she used those songs],” he told Rolling Stone last month. “I haven’t given my permission. I have no interest in supporting her in any way, shape or form. You can’t throw enough things down the abyss with a person like that.”

A few days later, Love said she was sorry for provoking Corgan’s ire. “We have again created beauty from the agony between us,” she wrote on Facebook, apologising for “all the thousand ways I sometimes offend you.” Unfortunately, Love still seems to be using the Smashing Pumpkin’s songs – at least judging from this week’s Twitter comments.

“My face is my face, my heart is my heart, my money is my money. Oh, and my songs are MY songs,” he announced. “If you can’t write your own songs maybe you should just be happy that you fooled someone into doing your work for you. Maybe you should go [somewhere] nice [and] live off your husband’s money, [you] know, the money he made for writing all those great songs.”

Corgan even took aim at Love’s relationship with her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, of whom she recently lost custody. “The world is aware of your lack of responsibility, as seen in the [government] taking away your parental rights. Only you could abandon such a beautiful, incredible child who is smarter than [you], cooler than [you], and better than [you]. Oops, did I say too much?”

It took hours for Love to respond, but when she did it was surprisingly restrained. “All I am is nice about you so if you wanna be mean, be mean,” she wrote. For those expecting a more fearsome counter-attack, don’t worry. We have a feeling the best is yet to come.

Damn. This is getting serious. Sure, I’ll probably cosign everything Billy says, but I’ve got to wonder if Twitter is the best forum for this stuff? Shouldn’t some of it be done via lawyers and the court system? Shouldn’t some of it be said in private letters, phone calls and face-to-face meetings? But that would ruin the fun for all of us out here in the cheap seats, I suppose.

Maybe he tried all those outlets, and after she ignored him he decided that the only way Courtney seems to listen to anything is if she hears it in the media so that she can respond publicly and bring herself some more publicity. Who knows the whole story behind it.

  2. Popcorny says:

    Corgan’s a d-bag.

  3. Lynn says:

I am not a fan of Courtney Love, but, man! Billy Corgan sounds like a total ass! Even if what he is saying is true ( about her daughter ), it’s unclassy and disgusting to say what he did.
Billy needs to man up and sue her or go back into his irrelevant hole in the ground and stop being such a high school bitch.

I hate twitter…a huge medium for these whinny ” celebs ” to get that much more attention.

  4. jd says:

Even her ex-boyfreind Billy Corgan can’t stand her, that says a lot.

  5. Luci says:

she must be incredible in bed or something because I dont get why this woman seems to convince people to share body-fluids with her

  6. embertine says:

Oh my sweet Eru, this is exactly why I hate Twitter. I was so much happier not knowing what utter douchenozzles most celebrities are in real life.

Next thing you know there will be a Twitter war between RDJ and Halle Berry, at which point I’m throwing away my internet subscription. And burning my computer. And stomping on the ashes.

  7. Iggles says:

Oh, this is some personal crap! Yea, yea, they hate each other. But I wouldn’t be surprised if a face to face argument turned into makeup sex. We already know Billy is into crazy women, and Courtney is as unhinged as they come. I’m sure they been fighting dirty like this for years — now that we have twitter their dysfunctional love/hate relationship is public.

  8. George Steel says:

He is correct about one thing: Court-Hole can’t write songs, she needs someone to do it for her, always has. Cobain gave her that “Live Through This” album and it was the only remotely decent thing she’s ever had her name attached to.

    @ jd

I dont understand why someones ex-boyfriend hating them says anything about that person. I have an ex that spent our whole year and a half relationship cheating on me and he goes and tells everyone else i cheated on him. Crazy right?

At any rate reagrdless of whats going on with Crogan and Love professionally he has no right to bring her relations with her daughter into it, and i applaud her for showing so much restraint (i actually cant believe it)
maybe she really is trying to get herself together

anyhow i swore at one point her lawyers said she had every right to use those songs which is why theyre in the album and he hasnt sued her he’s just crying.

Crogan is sounding like a real a-hole

  10. Trillion says:

No fan of CL, but Corgan is lucky anyone is performing or giving half a crap about his songs.

is that BBQ sauce on her shirt?

  12. Victoria says:

OK I just went and checked out the lyrics for Hole’s Live Through This and it wasnt really that GOOD! So I dont see what Billy is getting his panties in a wad over. Oh it’s for the attention, I forgot.

I met Billy once years ago, at a Starbucks in the town where I grew up (where his then-girlfriend’s family also lived). I was a nerdy teenage fan wearing a Smashing Pumpkin shirt, and he invited myself and my best friend to sit down, and chatted with us for over an hour. He seemed really genuine, down-to-earth, and like a good guy.

I read this stuff, and I think he’s doing himself a disservice — Kaiser’s right, there are better forums for this. You can do better, Billy.

  14. Aitch says:

I love his comment about “living off KB’s money.” so true, so true.

  15. gg says:

Sorry but I can’t stand either of em. Corgan’s lame music and his gawd-awful screechy voice are enough to make paint peel.

  16. mariex says:

I don’t feel sorry for her at all. Everything he said is probably true, even the stuff about being jealous of her own daughter. She is a very ambitious crack whore but is dillusional enough to think shes better than the people shes using. No talent whatsoever and a mouth so big that it bites her own ass. Although, damn that Corgan for feeding the beast.

Courtney Love and Billy Corgan. Is it 1994??
