Christina Aguilera on new video, ‘never intended to be a soccer mom’

Christina Aguilera’s new video “Not Myself Tonight” came out last week, and to say it was ridiculous would be an understatement. It was a constant moving cliche of overdone music video moments meant to be shocking. Taken together it was like a parody of an actual video. There was plenty of S&M, a girl on girl kiss, Christina on all fours crawling like a cat, and brandishing a whip. Several scenes looked like complete rip offs from Madonna videos, primarily “Express Yourself” with Madonna strutting on a smoky stage in a suit with a monocle and then licking from the cat bowl and pouring it down her back. In fact Aguilera’s video had all of these things. (The monocle part is around 1:45 in the video above. Aguilera pours chocolate down her back at 2:50. Compare that to the monocle part in Express Yourself at 2:00 in, and Madonna pouring milk down her back at 3:45.) There were also group scenes toward the end straight from Paula Abdul’s “Cold Hearted Snake” Video and I’m sure there’s much more I’m missing.

Anyway, while Aguilera should be apologizing for how derivative her video was she’s instead defending how sexy it was, as if it was as shocking and groundbreaking as she intended it to be.

Christina Aguilera’s brand-new “Not Myself Tonight” video is certainly jaw-dropping, a three-minute run of barely-there outfits, extended S&M-inspired sequences and a whole lot of guy-on-girl groping.

But in an interview with “Access Hollywood,” Aguilera defended the clip, saying that it shows off her wild side, which she’s not shying away from just because she’s a mother.

“Mama still has to be me,” she said. “I never claimed to be a cookie-cutter soccer mom. That’s all good for some people. Not for me.”

Aguilera — who, in previous interviews, has cited her two-year-old son, Max, as an inspiration for the songs on her upcoming Bionic album — said that she doesn’t think the video is inappropriate, and added that just because she’s a mother, it doesn’t mean that she’s not also an artist, one who deals honestly and frankly with the subject of sexuality.

“[Max] is going to grow up in a household where he knows mommy expresses herself artistically and some of that will have to reflect itself sexually too, at times,” she said. “He’s going to learn to respect the fact that women are allowed to express themselves and not feel shameful about their bodies or their sexuality.”

She added that while Max is already a fan of the songs on Bionic (which is due June 4), he’s not shy about expressing his allegiance to another of his mother’s pop contemporaries.

“He’s really into Rihanna,” Aguilera said. “And he does say ‘Put in mama’s song! Put in mama’s song!’ And then he goes, ‘Go cazy! Go cazy!’ It’s so cute.”

[From MTV]

I read a very good critique of this video on EW.com. They’re basically saying that Aguilera is desperate, derivative of both Madonna and Lady Gaga, and completely lacking in originality. As for the song, it doesn’t really stand out but it’s not bad I guess. It’s definitely not sticking in my head like “Express Yourself.”

The worst part about Xtina’s video, beyond the rather unabashed unoriginality of it, is the sad stink of I’ve-been-gone-forever-had-a-baby-and-now-want-to-be-relevant-again desperation. Cue: the girl-on-girl makeout sessions! Text messaging! Fire balls! When watching, there’s wasn’t a moment where I didn’t feel like Aguilera was clawing for relevancy, in a crazy, far beyond, post-Aguilera world. True story: Aguilera has been gone for a long time. There’s a desperate need, sort of like when she blipped back for two seconds with “Keeps Gettin’ Better” a couple years ago, for her to resuscitate her look and build it in the image of what’s relevant now. But maybe she should have gone in a totally different direction to avoid comparisons? Given us something totally different? The thing about Aguilera is that she’s used to zig when everyone else was zagging. And now, it seems like she decided to zag along with everyone else.

So we know who Christina is not, but who is she exactly? She was Dirrrty, she was vampy, and now she’s some kind of wacky empowered dominatrix, just like Madonna and Lady Gaga. I agree, she should go for something different. And she should shut up about how she’s not a soccer mom. There are plenty of us, and we make purchasing decisions for our families and teens.

Mission accomplished – she’s definitely NOT what pops into my head when I hear “soccer mom.” She’s way more annoying than any soccer mom I know.

  2. lolo says:

I’m tired of her and her silly behaviour. She just wants men to look at her as a sex symbol and she wants to be the hottest. But she isn’t. ‘Xtina’ go away already.. Compared to this ‘woman’ I’m starting to like ‘JLO’.

  3. Jeane says:

You forgot to mention Madonna’s “Human Nature” video.

All of this has been done before, and better. This video is not racy or jaw dropping, it’s tired and boring and it looks like she’s trying to hard.

She also looks really, really skinny. Not sexy.

  4. Kolby says:

I’m not her, obviously, but in her shoes I think I would have made a comeback showcasing the one thing she has that so many of todays performers lack, and sorely – her amazing, gifted voice. It’s being covered up by all this glitter and nonsense, and that’s a damn shame.

  5. di butler says:

I’m sure when Lil Max is a teen, his friends won’t give him any sh*t for this craptastic video, at all. Everyone knows boys just love their friends saying they’d like to do their mom, right?

  6. Missfit says:

OMG, you said it! I also saw alot of Human Nature from Madonna, that’s the first obvious, with all the bondage. I love Christina, I do, but she needs to admit when she’s copying someone, especially when she makes it so obvious. I think she really wants to compete with Gaga, that’s her main threat, since Gaga is new and the new “IT” girl and she takes it very offensively when someone calls it out or compares the two. There’s nothing wrong with being inspired by different people and making something your own, but she’s not doing that. Gaga does it her own and I think Gaga is very original, unique and creative. I liked the Christina from Stripped and Back to Basics better. I’m sorry, I don’t like this video much either. I thought being married to Bratman is what made her “pure” and “clean up?” She pretty much said it on her songs on Basics, but I guess not. She should not be humping another guy’s nut sack being married and being a mother, but that’s just my opinion. I guess that would be considered “acting.” I know Gwen can be annoying to some, but I like how she keeps it together being married and with kids, she is still sexy, but doesn’t over do it. If you’re a lady and claim to have self respect and dignity, don’t go looking like a whore, if you’re not. This is definately nothing new or not nothing I’ve seen before, it didn’t blow me away. Just sayin.

  7. jeannified says:

Meh…cool video in a way. However, it seems like she’s trying too hard and trying to ride Lady Gaga’s coattails these days. The both have amazing voiced, but I sort of like Lady Gaga’s better these days! She seems more authentic with the costumes.

  8. irishserra says:

I’m with Kolby. The girl has got a voice! The rest is just a tragic distraction.

  9. Kelly says:

I love her. I like how she isn’t afraid to say what she wants. Shes talented and eccentric and I don’t mind the fact that she changes her look a lot.

  10. ,,,, says:

Jezebel has a really good article about how pop culture is simply an endless cycle of copying/stealing. It’s kind of silly to shame Xtina for copying Gaga when Gaga copies a lot of people too including Grace Jones, Dale Bozzio, and even Madonna. It’s not like Gaga is an endless well of original thoughts. Google Dale Bozzio and you’ll be really shocked at the similarities between Gaga and Dale’s looks, all of which Dale wore before Gaga.

Here’s the article in case anyone is interested: http://jezebel.com/5528827/the-art-of-stealing-pop-stars-and-the-tricky-music-video-homage

  11. Pont Neuf says:

I think that her voice is massively overrated but, compared to the awful train wrecks polluting the charts nowadays, she’s a goddess. Still, the video is a mess… She seems to have thought “oh well, if Lady Gaga is plagiarizing everyone, why can’t I be lazy and plagiarize just Madonna and her? I’m sure no one will notice”. The results are simply awful.

The song sounds like sh*t being hammered, the video isn’t any better and, quite honestly, I have to wonder how this album is going to be. By the looks of it, it won’t be something to go crazy about.

I also love the way in which Christina ALWAYS manages to sound utterly pedantic and tells everyone that they aren’t as avant garde and open-minded as she is, and that’s why we don’t get it when she does something lacking in quality. Honey, motherhood might have enlightened you, but it sure hasn’t tamed that gigantic ego.

  12. elisha says:

C|B is totally correct on this one: in fact I thought it WAS Madonna in the header image. I totally saw rip-offs of Lady G and Madonna, as well as some Janet and even Britney Spears “3”, with a little bit of Ru Paul’s “Drag Race” for good measure (and I ain’t refering to the men).

And what was with that awful cutaway of her perfume that had nothing to do with anything? Even when Brit shows her perfume in her videos it at least tries to make sense. This was like “We know this video already sucks, so here’s a still photo of her perfume”.

  13. a says:

i’m really over her inflatable doll mouth… most photos lately she’s doing that.

her new style seems more desperate than anything.

  14. Squirrel says:

I agee with the comments on the voice. Wish she would stop trying to be the young Madonna or the old Gaga and just tone down all the make up (yeah, naive wish I know) and get back to what made her big in the first place – a voice to rival (back-in-the-day) Whitney’s and Mariah’s. She used to be someone who could pick and sing a good song and make you want to hear it more than once. She has more musical talent than Madonna or Gaga – why does she not realise that and instead tries to compete on a subject she can only lose at?

As for being a mother and not losing her sexuality because of it – great, but ever since she was released from Disney clutches expressing her sexuality (and shoving it down all our throats) is pretty much all she has tried to do, mostly using her music to do it.

I’m all ready for the mature Xtina. Hope it happens.

  15. Trillion says:

She was born with a great voice. The rest is all marketing with no real-life reference other than a flaming desire to be outrageous, as if that makes her artistic. She should just sing songs written for her in her big voice, like Celine Dion, instead of torturing us with this poser crap.

  16. TaylorB says:

I have that EXACT same black hat at home, but I use mine as the lid to my teapot.

  17. Juice in LA says:

You know, maybe it was intended to be homage or parody… really no one with a monetary interest in her album would otherwise let her make this blatant of a rip off unless it was in homage.

I know I am alone on this one and there areplenty of Xtina bashers here, and I give you your due- considering how I rip CaCa, but I still like Christina, she has real talent and there isn’t another SINGLE female solo artist out there who writes, produces and actually sings without the use of synthesizers and heavy handed -jay-zeed production- Including Beyonce. So her video’s suck- whose watching them anyway?

  18. Beth says:

When I saw the still photos I thought Madonna’s “Human Nature” too. The video is funny because it’s such a bad rip-off of Madonna. It’s really sad that Christina is so desperate. Ever since the video has been released everybody has been trashing it for copying Madonna and Gaga.

  19. Cinderella says:

Her jab at “cookie cutter soccer moms” was a tad bitchy. What she may forget is that those same moms probably bought her debut album a decade ago.

In her attempt to copy every top female pop star in video, Christina just looks like a lost girl playing charades.

  20. Jillian says:

Does anyone else think her boobs look smaller (especially in the pic w/the red chair & pasties)? At one time they were huge. Implants removed perhaps?

  21. danielle says:

I love Christina’s voice, but I don’t think she’s made great song selections in YEARS and to me, seems obsessed with shoving her sexiness in peoples faces like its the only thing she has going for her. I agree with alot of other commentators that I would like to see her focus on her voice. Less theatricality, not this dance pop obsession – maybe just really stripped down music and (maybe a stripped down face?!)

  22. Missmilly says:

wow she is making a total fool and a huge mockery of herself. Shame, she has a good voice. She will regret this one day as she sinks into the “mom” mode–

  23. city says:

hahaha….i love it….there are plenty of us and we make the purchasing decisions for our families!!

  24. curegirl0421 says:

Did anybody see it and I missed the comment? She set her wardrobe on fire just like in George Micheal’s “Freedom”.

    One more for the list!

It’s too bad because she really has a strong voice, she just constantly masks it with poppy crap and ridiculous videos.

  25. LolaBella says:

    LMAO@ TaylorB!

Christina needs to get back to belting out some amazing ballads that showcase her voice. The video just makes her seem unoriginal, boring and a tad desperate to be counted in the current crop of pop princesses.

    *Listens to Christina singing “Beautiful”*

  26. Joan says:

Kelly – I agree with you. I also respect that she speaks honestly and acts like herself, in spite of expected conformity.
I don’t think her “cookie cutter soccer mom” statement was meant in bad taste; I believe she is just stating that she has a different way of mothering her son. I have 3 children and I’m not always hardcore either.
Christina is lovely and her dressing/acting like she does is hardly in comparison to Madonna’s antics back in the day. I think she is just having fun and loving life …. If you see photos of her and her son together, there is no doubt that they are happy together.

  27. d says:

I thought that video WAS a spoof actually, and thought good on her for taking the piss out of all those other videos and for throwing down. But apparently not. Hunh. Too bad, I like her voice…she could do some really interesting things. Maybe she needs to find better producers or something. I did like the video though, I just didn’t think it was wildly original.

  28. Dawn says:

C’mon let’s say all together: Out of Touch!

  29. Bella Mosley says:

She has such a beautiful voice which is lost in her attempt to be sexy. When you try to hard it just looks pathetic. So sad when she has the talent to keep her at the top that she throws herself to the bottom with her actions.

  30. Just a Poster says:

Oh Xtina.. poor little delusional Xtina..

Honey, here is the ugly truth and let me bitch slap you with it. Come her Xtina really close and let me whisper my wisdom to you.

Nobody ever sets out to be a “soccer mom” nobody. One day after you fall in love, get married or heck, just procreate and then those kiddos one day actually get a life, they want to do things, including sports! And guess what sport they generally start off with..
    Yep.
    SOCCER!
Welcome to the world of Soccer Moms Xtina!
Soccer Moms are usually a forgiving bunch, however, if you dress with your tacky lipstick on and little ho outfits.. Well then we just point and laugh at you!

  31. Ella says:

I am very proud to be a soccer mom (although this year it’s t-ball). I love hanging out with my kid and his friends – until bedtime, that it, then I CLOCK OUT.

  32. Shanarabelle says:

Okay… I love the song and its beat even though some of it sounds awfully like Justin Timberlake’s Sexy Back.

I’ve been listening to it for a while now and it’s good. But I cannot watch the clip!

It’s awful and too dominatrix for me.

Otherwise, without my eyes being nearly dissolved, it’s a pretty good song.

As for Aguilera herself, well… in our times, tendency is Lady Gaga and Madonna-esque so it doesn’t surprise me. Everyone is copying everyone.

  33. jdao says:

She did rip off a lot from Madonna for this vid.

  34. Catherine says:

Girls who show their tits and ass nonstop just diminish their talents. There are some hot ass looking “soccer moms” when I take my kid to his sport stuff. She needs to rethink that statement.

  35. Jordin says:

She might as wel just of made a sex tape

  36. Melinda says:

    lame. (sigh)

  37. hairball says:

I thought she looked absolutely stunning in her video “Candy Man”.

This video however is RIDICULOUS. I mean, it is SO obvious she is copying everyone. I got huge “Human Nature” vibes too from this video. She just copied the other videos. Huh???? I was embarrassed for her.

  38. Beck says:

    Yawn…

  39. gg says:

Sex tape. Embarrassed. She must not think her voice is any good since being a porn star is more important to her.

    Gross?

  40. Kim says:

Did she stop to think her son will see this video one day? So her son has to pay for the fact that she wasnt ready to be a mature mother who goes the cheesy route of shock factor versus talent.

No she didnt need to become a “soccer mom” but a little self respect and maturity for the sake of her son would have been better parenting.

  41. Kim says:

This video is a complete rip off of every shock factor tactic every other non talented female singer before her has tried.

Its called maturity, not soccer mom, Xtina- get a grip on it for sake of your son.

  42. Kim says:

IM STILL RELEVANT – REALLY PEOPLE I AM!!! (not).

  43. Larissa says:

I mean, really, no one else noticed the “copy” was intendend? Seriously?
The song itself is called “Not myself tonight”…and of course it was a MAJOR publicity move (reason why video clips were invented in first place)to promote her single and upcoming album, are you people really that disconnected? It was meant to cause all this controversy!
I honestly think it turned out hilarious!!!!

  44. Jez says:

She’s old news and she knows it. She was never that big. It’s a desperate attempt. She was always that chick that came after Britney and still is.

  45. Confuzzle says:

Is she wearing a saucepan lid on her head in the last photo?

  46. JJ says:

Xtina and Mariah infuriate me. We don’t need them to be sexy, we just want them to SING.

Leave the smutty outfits to the girls who CAN’T sing. . .that’s all those girls have got.

  47. Kim says:

Seriously? Im embarrassed for her. Been there done that – this is so Madonna 1980’s.

  48. jover says:

Agee with all the above posters. For all her money and pr advice, why can’t she showcase her voice, not schtick that has been done before and better. She really was never that big and this won’t prevent her from fading into insignficance. I just don’t believe most tweens, teenagers and twenty somethings are even interested in her. Hope she can keep the costumes for halloween, though.

  49. yae says:

The hump-grind art is getting old.

I’m bored with all of it. I don’t care who the artist is anymore.

    Brainless.

    Yawn

  50. Maritza says:

This screams “I’m Desperate for attention”.

  51. Ana says:

She must have got her implants removed because her boobs are smaller and they are sagging in one of the top pictures.

Christina will always be second until she learns to be herself as an artist, not try to shock people and work with her voice instead of against it.

She was second to Britney (even though she is a better singer) and now she is second to Gaga.
My husband asked me who was uglier and I had to say Christina. I’m not a big fan of her voice either. I feel like she abuses it.

  52. noonoo says:

Hmmm…why can’t soccer moms be sexy? I mean I bet there are baptist minister wives in Tenessee that go off like a firecracker in the sack and would put Xtina to shame. Why is she being as close-minded as the people she criticises? Does she really equate sexuality with make-up and scanty clothing? And there is a good reason you don’t wear that to teh soccer field ..its darn COLD in winter love. But most mothers who support their children’s sporting endeavours can still rock afrock when the tijme is right…jeez…off my soapbox. I like her, but COME ON GIRL.

  53. snowball says:

I wish she’d tone down the troweled-on makeup, crap music and slut videos and go for some quiet smoky accoustical jazz or blues for a change.

I sound like an old fart, but she was so much better looking when she wasn’t bleaching the piss out of her hair and dumping an entire box of melting Crayolas on her face.

  54. Crash2GO2 says:

“C|B is totally correct on this one: in fact I thought it WAS Madonna in the header image.”

Good case of Madamism already going on.

  55. lucy2 says:

WTF was that??? It looked like a Gaga video, then a Madonna video, and then an…adult video.
She has a great singing voice, and doesn’t need all the envelop pushing stuff to justify her career (unlike Madonna, IMO) – her talent should be enough. Whatever the intentions of this video, for real or spoof, it does make her look desperate.
She’s also a naturally pretty girl, but hides it under 50 lbs of makeup and weird hair and clothes.

  56. hairball says:

The Madonna stuff was actually 1990’s. I don’t think she was trying to do it on purpose, looking so obviously copying.

All the sex stuff, it was just seriously BORING. Not a turn on. Her voice is AMAZING. I even sort of like the song. Her voice is SO good, she needs to emphasis her voice as people say.

  57. palomino says:

Its not even that the video is derivative. The prob is the whole thing looks so b-list. The sets, costumes, choreography, production values, all of it is on some downmarket cheap shit! If you’re going to jack somebody’s swagger, at least TRY to pull it off.

  58. funnygirl says:

haha…christina u are ridiculous! i will never forget when she was on Ellen with her boobs that were bigger than her head….thought they were sexy and i love how Ellen was demurely laughing at her…remember back in the day when spanish music crossed over ala ricky martin, enrique and christina did a spanish album…she was trying v. hard to convince us she was latina but she couldnt speak spanish…seems like shes always one step behind and trying to be something shes not

  59. Ladybird83 says:

I get the joke, but not many will. Christina, keep having fun and your fans will follow.

  60. dizzybenny says:

a total waste of an awsome voice and talent.
she dosent have to play the slut when you have talent like that case in point Sade!
when you cant sing for sh*t then you have to resort to that kind of cheezy crap..case in point Ke$ha,Brit Brit and many others.

  61. abbydoom says:

What? Don’t people get that she’s “not herself tonight”?
I mean I don’t like her either but it’s obvious that the video was an INTENTIONAL parody.

  62. Jag says:

She irritates me now. She made such a point that she’s been around for 10 years and well before Gaga hit the scene, so she’s not copying her, yet she does a video that is a ripoff from Madonna, Paula Abdul and Lady Gaga, too? Like is said above, she should’ve stuck with her amazing voice and done her own thing.

I have no problem with how racy the video is, but the song isn’t that great, imo, and other than showing how gorgeous she can be, the video isn’t, either. I much preferred her in her Dirrty days; she seemed more real then – not contrived and copycatting.

*edited to add* @ abbydoom, if it’s supposed to be an intentional parady, I totally missed the joking in it because she’s been so serious when interviewed. My bad. lol

  63. MingMing says:

    Tacky!

If Xtina wants to do GaGa-Madonna type vids, there needs to be a bigger lay out of money involved. The vid looks too cheap.

  64. K says:

I’m kind of confused by a few of the posters who are stating that Christina was making a parody video and that this video is some epic joke that most of us aren’t getting. Foreal you guys. I think that if that was ever the intention of the video for Not Myself Tonight she would have told that to Access Hollywood and not given her bazillionth quote about her uber sexuality and soccor moms. I don’t think this video is a parody at all. I think Christina and her people are way out of touch. Unfortunate.

  65. Diva says:

    And Gwen Stefani hair! LOL

    Too funny.

  66. Luci says:

I feel like I like the song (she can sing!)
but yeah, the video is trying too hard
she did that in dirrty, and was succesful (in my opinion), but now its so unoriginal

  67. Icecat says:

Christina has been trying to copy CaCa’s look since she came out. Even before. She tried to do it right as CaCa was coming into the limelight and got called out on it.

There are lots of articles and pics…

    http://www.google.com/images?rlz=1T4GZAZ_enUS241US241&q=christina+vs+lady+gaga&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=MQvgS8XzMYH78AbLuaDmBw&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=5&ved=0CCQQsAQwBA

  68. ViktoryGin says:

That Xtina has a decade long precedence in the industry is a non-issue, because reality has clearly proven that while she was absent playing mommy the industry was jonesing for their next platinum sexpot, a spot that was admirably taken up by Gaga whether you consider the latter original or not.

So Xtina can proffer all of the justifications and protests that she wants in order to avoid relinquishing her claim to the bleached blonde du jour, but she should know the industry well enough by now to know that very few are irreplaceable…and though she wishes she were, she’s not one of them. Talent and all. I was saying this a year ago: she should have reworked her image instead of stubbornly trying to claim ownership. Tsk, tsk. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

  69. justme says:

This video was nasty, cheap and the song SUCKED BIG TIME! This will not get any play in my car LOL! I can’t stand looking at her ugly face.

  70. Jo says:

OMG – I HATE THIS VIDEO!!!!! Absolutely love Christina but this is just a huge joke (on herself). What a shame, another woman caught up in the SLUT mode. She should be so much better than that.

  71. girl says:

    @Noonoo:

I totally agree. I hated her spouting off the whole, “I’m just a very sexual person” stuff. Guess what? We pretty much all are. It’s called “propagation of the species”. We just don’t want to see her doing it anymore and she is far too out of touch to realize it and instead took Gaga/Madonna/George Michael/ etc. to the Xerox factory with her crappy song in hand.

  72. gg says:

Perfect summation snowball! Melted crayolas indeed! I’ve been searching for the words for a long time:

“I wish she’d tone down the troweled-on makeup, crap music and slut videos and go for some quiet smoky accoustical jazz or blues for a change.

I sound like an old fart, but she was so much better looking when she wasn’t bleaching the piss out of her hair and dumping an entire box of melting Crayolas on her face.”

  73. Missfit says:

I also think that if she wanted to be STILL sexy and bondage like and kinky…okay, fine, nothing wrong with that, but do it with your husband when being intimate and private alone times. If she wants to claim she goes kisses on the boys and girls and she’s always like that, then I don’t like, she’s a married woman and a mother. I think that “soccer moms” can STILL be sexy, just not skanky or hootchie. There is a difference. We can still be sexy, but yet keep our dignity and self respect in tact and not flaunt it as if offering our goods just like that. I do also remember her doing parts of M videos in her (Fighter) video, she did looks from Frozen and Bedtime Stories. She IS a very talented voice and IF some people already get COCKY who are NOT talented, can you imagine the ones that are? lol I also think that after a while some of the talented singers (some, not all) just stop trying and don’t give it their all anymore and are like…eh, I’ll sing whatever, however now. I also DO recall reading an article about how Max is the one who inspired her to do this album and “new songs.” Ummm, what and how does Max have to do with a song like this? I was thinking more motherly, even more open. If Hurt and Oh Mother were really good ballads, then I can only hope this album has some good ballads in tribute to her son. But this song, maybe more on the lines if you’re a single woman. I liked her so much better before, she was more REAL. I always love an artist when they come out just RAW, REAL and ORIGINAL, but when they start to lose their artistic integrity, realness and originality, AND get COCKY, forget it.

Even though some people are saying it is an intentional copying or other videos, I think it’s her attitude that is pissing people off. If it is paying homage to other videos (ie, Madonna, Gaga…) then she should say that she was inspired by their videos and this is why the video is the way it is. She needs to get off her high horse and stop acting like an arrogant, ungracious little brat that she is.

    people chill-out…it’s just a video…i don’t like it too…it’s just xtina as an artist…

  76. Lia says:

She’s typical of a selfish mother, more interested in her popularity than in being a decent mom. Her son’s friends will be watching these “music” (I use that term generously) videos one day, and it’s not something a young boy or girl wants floating around out there. Kids want to look up to their parents. They want to be proud of them. They want their parents to act like, well, parents. Parents who are aware of, and care about, how they will be perceived by their children’s friends. I would never have wanted my mother to be known as the class’ whore-mom. I wanted my mother to be kind and firm, respectful and respected. She didn’t disappoint. Aguilera will keep making excuses for her shortcomings as a mother, including sneering at “soccer moms”, but it’s those soccer moms whose kids will be proud of and whose kids will not be humiliated by their mothers’ selfish behavior and judgement.

you sumed up exactly what i wanted to say about this pile of cak. disappointed with hype as well..he needs to stick to urban vids, this type of thing isn’t his forte.

I JUST THINK SHES HOT.Id keep her around

  79. lindsay says:

christina aguilera is pathetic! she has ALWAYS been copying or trying to compete with somebody. always. remember when she was super jealous of britney because brit was the number one pop princess and sex symbol, so she went in her dirrty xtina phase as a desperate attempt to be hotter than brit and it was an absolute and complete failure!pink worked with linda perry so SHE had to work with her too and now this! i actually feel kind of sorry for her- she obviously suffers from low self esteem and is very unsure of herself. she has become the laughingstock of hollywood! hey xtina-nobody wants an copycatting, unoriginal pop star!

I actually think we need to focus on the really valuable statement she made about raising her child to respect women and their sexualities.

The video is derivative, but so is Gaga. I actually think Christina has an amazing voice that doesn’t require this silliness.

And yes, absolutely the relationship to Madge’s “human nature” – a great song by the way – must be stated.
