The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been photographed together for the first time since they moved back to the UK. Prince Harry and Meghan were seen hand-in-hand, walking into a Cotswolds pub. The Sun published the exclusive photos, and it doesn’t look like there’s any photo credit on them, which is weird. Conspiracies are already brewing about the lack of accreditation, but my guess is that the photos were taken by someone on staff at the Sun, likely due to a tip-off. The photos are super-clear and they almost look pap-strolly. Part of the Sun’s exclusive was about the food, which will always be of interest to me. I always want to know what celebrities order!
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went public for the first time since returning to the UK — having lunch at a cosy Cotswolds pub called The Falkland Arms. Our exclusive photos show Prince Harry and wife Meghan holding hands on Thursday’s stroll to the boozer.
Both wore shades and Harry, 42, was seen glancing at a menu board outside the 16th-century pub, which is round the corner from the Beckhams in Great Tew, Oxfordshire. Meg, 45, clutched her purse and looked casual in black with white pumps. Harry wore a Santa Barbara fire department cap, a nod to their US home in nearby Montecito.
The couple, whose kids Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, were at school, were pictured together in Britain for the first time since we revealed the family were returning to the UK six years after Megxit.
Inside the pub, Meghan dined on a £18.25 portion of gluten-free beer-battered haddock and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Harry chose a £17.95 chicken, ham and leek pie with seasonal greens, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy.
The boozer still retains most of its traditional features, including flagstone floors and low beamed ceilings.
A pub insider said: “Everyone here gets the royal treatment — it doesn’t matter who you are. We’re lucky to get lots of different people visiting us, and everyone is treated like a local. When they visited, Harry and Meghan just acted like locals.”
The pub is a two-mile walk from Soho Farmhouse where Meg does pilates. David and Victoria Beckham’s £12million home is nearby. In TV gangster series MobLand, Pierce Brosnan’s character Conrad Harrigan mentions the pub saying: “Change the venue to Falkland Arms, Great Tew. They serve a nice pint there.”
It is named after Lucius Cary, the 2nd Viscount Falkland, who fought with Royalists in the Civil War and died in 1643. His family still own the Great Tew Estate — where Harry and Meghan lived before they moved to the US.
According to Tom Sykes, Meghan also took Kelly Zajfen to this same pub, The Falkland Arms, when Kelly visited. Kelly even posted a few photos from inside the pub on her Instagram. So clearly, this is the Sussexes’ favorite pub, which might also explain why the photos are so clear and well-positioned – the photographer had a good idea that Meghan and Harry would turn up at their favorite pub soon enough. As for the food… I suspect Meghan doesn’t care that her dish was gluten-free, she probably just wanted the haddock. Honestly, Harry’s ham, chicken & leek pie sounds a bit gross to me but I bet it tastes better than it sounds.

@Julie … Doubtful, because the original posted ‘normal ratio’ photos of them walking down the lane into the pub includes the side mirror of a car. I think that is why these pics are blown up–to get rid of the side car mirror and to make it appear like a pap took them from a great distance. There is one photo of Meghan noticing the person in the car taking pictures and she looks upset.
There was also mention that these pics were taken from a local’s Tic Tok or Instagram account. But doubtful again as it appears all the locals mainly walk wherever they want to go rather than drive.
My theory is that the British tabloids have paid photographers to stalk and pap the Sussexes since they know where they live and where their children attend school.

Gatekeeping, much? I mentioned that because Widdecombe is a conservative MP turned populist in Britain who was murdered in her home in a very brutal way. The story was in the illustration of the newspaper, the headline under the Sussex story. It falls under the heading of the sort of unbelievable contemporary events that are often covered on this site. It struck me that the Widdecombe story might be more interesting than Harry and Meghan having lunch.

I still remember my year in England for grad school. Chips & peas are the standard sides for every restaurant/pub meal. EVERY meal. Omelet for breakfast? Chips & peas on the side. Pasta dish at an Italian restaurant? Chips & peas on the side. 🙄. I bet Harry’s ham/chicken/leek pie had chips & peas on the side.

FWIW, the “gluten free” BEER BATTERED fish can’t be GF, by definition. I looked at the menu and the allergen information, and while it doesn’t check the gluten box, it’s described as Gold ale battered. Anyway, there are many things about the Sun’s story that are irrelevant, including the GF description of fish and chips, but Harry and Meghan are decidedly not.
C-Shell, you can definitely get ales that are gluten free and flour that is gluten free.

I think you click on the ‘allergen filter’ and check the box for ‘does not contain cereals with gluten.’ Wouldn’t be surprising if they only prepare foods gluten free if they have a fair # of customers who claim sensitivity. Just had communion in Protestant church this AM, and they said all bread was GF. Tasted like it had a bunch of seeds in it, so it would probly gross out Roadkill F Kennedy. Personally, I was grossed out about “mushy peas.” But then I looked it up and it’s basically pureed split peas, intended to be cooked from dry. I had been envisioning them smashing little spring peas for no good reason.
I think it’s gross that this pub is telling the media the exact food its famous patrons order. It’s not as though H+M posted photos of their meals. The pub did not do this on Meghan’s previous visit(s), yet here they are, casually invading her privacy? I hope they never visit that pub again.
They just keep giving and reinforcing the impression that Brits are bunch of miserable, cheapskate, broke-arse bastards who are always looking to sell out people to make a fast buck.
Also, from a security perspective, I can’t imagine that it’s a good idea to be tipping off would-be attackers about the kinds of meals certain customers order. And I side-eye the Sun for printing a “pap” photo. They may feel that failing to attribute the photo will protect them, but I suspect that they will have already received a legal letter.
I think it’s quite possible that the pub didn’t give the Sun that information and that the paper just picked two items off the menu and attributed them to Harry and Meghan.
Lets hope that they didn’t otherwise they will probably want to find another pub. It seems like a cheeky thing to do to me.

I did read on twitter that someone figured out it was the Sun’s staff photographer. This couple will never know a moments peace while they are in England
I’m not shocked if they let shared their order. That feels pretty standard for celebrities, it feels like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and other huge celebs have their orders at restaurants discussed.
It’s nice they have already found a local place they enjoy.
I suspect the Sun has staff staked out in the Cotswolds hoping Meghan and Harry pass by that’s why the photos are not being credited. Hopefully now that they got the photos the Sun will leave them alone.

They knew she’d been to that pub before with her friend, and these pictures made enough money to make it worth someone’s while to wait it out in the parking lot until they came back. It’s so creepy how you can see the rearview window in the pics, some asshole just sitting in his car, lying in wait. And that means he can follow them wherever afterward.

That’s what I was thinking, must be sorta like a pot pie. Leeks are great in soups and quiche so this doesn’t sound weird to me at all.
It sounds like shepherds’ pie. Basically stew with mashed potatoes over it, like a pot pie but with mashers instead of pastry. It’s quite good! If you’re in the states, you can get a frozen version at Trader Joe’s.

They can certainly try,@Tessa, but I doubt the Wales will be able to project “loved-up” so effortlessly. They can barely manage “festive glances”.
When the Wales do engagements together, it’s painfully awkward and stilted. He doesn’t look at her, doesn’t reach for her, and barely seems to notice her presence. When he is forced to interact, it’s performative – rolling around for cameras at the beach or giving her a peck on the cheek after a polo match. Done (I think) joylessly and through gritted teeth. They have doomed themselves to trying to recreate Harry and Meghan’s magic, but not only do they lack the qualities of H and M, I don’t think either of them even understand why it’s appealing in the first place.
I would feel sorry for them both if they weren’t so awful.
I thought by now that most people knew an exclusive like this with a very clear and close picture no bodyguards blocking etc were set uo by them. I appreciate that many of you don’t want to hear it but they do exactly what other celebrities do and this is case in point – they set this up.

No need to set anything up. Meghan was there recently with Kelly,, almost certainly now photogs are staking it out looking for a repeat visit. (Either that or someone from the pub tipped them off.). She and Harry look very relaxed, I’m sure they expected to see pictures end up in the papers.

I just remembered her saying at some point that there is a “before, during and after” in her life, referring to her royal life in the UK. I don’t think she ever planned on coming back. She is tiny, though? It’s especially noticeable when she’s next to her much taller, much more filled out husband. I think she was a little curvier on Suits, but it’s normal in your 20s/30s to not need to work as hard to stay thin. Once you hit 40 and really have to work at it, you often slim down a bit. That’s how it worked for me, anyway. (then I let myself go during the pandemic and spent my late 40s really struggling with weight, but again that’s me and I’m a few years older than Meghan).
But yeah I think a return to Montecito makes loads of sense. I feel like a childhood there must be absolutely magical.
My guess is the staff either tipped someone off or sold the pics themselves. The part about what they ate is basically free advertising for the pub so I don’t blame them for sharing. I’m sure the pub does well but more business is more business.

I don’t think they arranged for the cameras, but I also don’t think they minded them. They went for a casual lunch together & seemed happy.
Some of the coverage suggests they are living separate lives, with Meghan & kids’ bags packed & ready to go to back to CA. But it seems like Harry does his philanthropy, Meghan does As Ever, the kids do school, and, like many families, sometims they do things together.

Interesting! In the US, “pumps” are dress shoes, sometimes flats but often with a higher heel. There was a tv ad that went “looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker” even. I’ve heard/said trainers, but pumps and sneakers have always been different.

If Harry and Meghan decided they wanted their photos in the newspaper, they could’ve have just gone together to one of Harry’s 5011 charity events from the past few weeks. She literally could’ve gone with him to the Ukraine gala a couple of days ago. So we need to apply some logic here before throwing around accusations. Also, they certainly wouldn’t give photos to the Sun, which Harry just sued and won a hefty payment against.
I agree that they could have gone together to any of Harry’s charity events although to be honest I am
not sure how those all work but I assume if you want your spouse there it’s fine. However they chose not do that and purposely are taking a different approach to Meghan and the public outings.
We also know that Harry is once again courting the press in a What’s app group as without the press it is difficult to enact change and shed light on your causes. Personally, I think Harry might be more inclined to do this type of thing with the Sun as I believe he won his case against them. I think in all honesty it’s the daily mail that is the one he really dislikes and lost too.

As they were there for their arrival So however, it went down I truly believe they knew and okayed it. And I think if they were not OK with it, we would’ve heard about it. People push back against that framing because it gives The Sun unearned and erroneous cover for their behaviour.
Consider that The Sun went on the record, later, saying KP was in full knowledge and O.K. with those duplicitous and ridiculous farm shop pictures and video that showed a stand in for Kate and perhaps even William. Would The Sun’s editors dare to go on the record suggesting the same staffer on their “Montecito beat” who took these shots was sanctioned in an agreed upon partnership with H&M? I doubt that highly.
The Sun WANT to depict H&M as public figures who ‘play the game’ in order to advance their own agenda for insisting ’they bring it on themselves’ and are therefore ‘fair game’ to ‘report on’. That doesn’t fly.

When one reads the particulars of Harry’s suit it is obvious that’s a non starter and, if you recall William SETTLED with News Corp for an undisclosed sum and had that organization run defense to the point of fraud during the ‘Where’s Kate’ period, one can see it would be even more likely that H&M will not ‘team up’ with The Sun, even as they must interact with British media in publicizing their projects and collaborations in general.
I hear you -truly I do. But…….. no publicity at all is akin to “death of a public figure”. All public figures have to have media and press. Most do it within their chosen profession. For example an actor promoting a movie will be all over and then not seen. A pop star etc. Meghan can do this as she has a business and had a netflix show. But Harry……. how does he get his name out their except as a Prince. And then…. what do Prince’s do – is that a career in it’s own right? And if so what does it mean if they are no longer employed by the family? They have to have the media with them. It’s like a love hate relationship really. Do I think they hate the press – for sure. Do I think they need them – most definitely.
A couple of other things. Your description of the William & Kate thing is not quite accurate. The Sun said it contacted Kensington Palace before publishing the Windsor Farm Shop footage of William and Kate, so the Palace was aware it was going to run — but that is very different from saying Kensington Palace collaborated with The Sun or helped arrange the footage. Might they have for sure – I am not going to say they didn’t because all these public figures need this. For me personally this picture is just way to clean and perfect to be oh look someone just came upon them and got theses perfect pictures. Where are the ones of them getting out the car, the bodyguards. These are pretty never perfect pictures and quite close and Harry and Meghan do not seem bothered. So………. just my two cents.
Personally I think that Harry and Meghan are a very interesting couple and have a lot going for them. I do believe however, that they play the game always have always will. I also think that if they just sent out a birthday picture or Christmas picture of the kids it would help alot. Not sure what their plans are around this. But like Angelina and Brad they did it to help with the paps and it may have I don’t know. Without it the price for pictures of these two children just keep going up. That was not footage of Kate so either both participants were impersonating WanK or William accompanied a body double for his wife. That editor made those explanations on the record and KP remained silent. KP is complicit in that scam.

This is so stupid how they’re trying to make a couple going to lunch into some occasion. They were photographed all the time going into restaurants back in the states and I don’t recall it ever being implied it was pap strolly. Meghan hasn’t done any public engagements since they moved back, so for some reason they’re acting like this is some big deal that she’s outside with Harry. The food doesn’t sound like it’s worth going back for, especially since someone in that area can’t mind their business. I hope Meghan continues to treat this as an extended vacation and ignores this country.

IIRC, H & M rented a Cotswold country place whIle living in London & Windsor, but gave it up after they were discovered & harassed by cameras & drones.
Before they moved to Frogmore Cottage, they briefly lived in a farmhouse in the Cotswolds until a drone took pictures of the inside.

Pubs have changed over the last 40 years or so. They used to be just for drinking and you were lucky if you could get a sandwich or a packet of crisps. Those that have remained like that I think of as boozers while those that serve proper meals are Pubs. I don’t know if skin colour comes into it. I hope not.

It is as likely a callback to ‘wild Harry’ too but do not overlook the subtle tells. ‘Dog whistles’, particularly racial ones, are that subtle in order to gaslight and evade responsibility. Just the more ‘downmarket’ language reinforces the idea that she ‘is’ ‘downmarket’ too.

They stake out where they’re living and follow. They know where they live. To call it a pap stroll when they’re plainly avoiding them is ridiculous. But can’t convince some people.
Not sure how my name came into this – LOL! But i looked it up as I know nothing about the two different names. But I did a little research and…… A great Taylor Swift example is from The Sun in April 2024. The article says Taylor has “made no secret of her love for Britain — and our boozers”. As well about William And in June 2026, The Independent wrote about William visiting the Prince of Peckham pub: “The Prince of Wales poured himself a pint at a pub in Peckham as he made a surprise visit to the south London boozer. And on Adele in the Sun “I’m told the singer is currently building a replica of an East London boozer near the site.” So I think it is a common term used in the Sun for all people regardless of the color of their skin.

Yes @Beverley. It’s NOW being called a “boozer” pub because H&M went there. A ‘boozer pub” in the USA is called a dive bar. This particular pub is considered a hybrid gastropub. A very long history of serving food other than potato chips. They evolved moreso in the ’90s to the gastropub area.

I noticed the Daily Beast had some stupid headline implying this is a staged photo. One of the pics show her rushing inside ahead of Harry, lije she spotted the photographer. She’s already posted on Instagram pictures of herself in the family in the countryside, Harry has been photographed everywhere for his events, and there’s been pictures of her with Ellen. Her friend Kelly posted from that very same pub. Why would this be a set up? I think she’s just going about her business, not hiding but not doing any public events there so far. She’s basically quiet quitting while in the UK and that’s all they deserve.
Are they trying to tell us that the Sussexes are staying at the Great Tew estate?
Those prices are insane. And that’s the cotswolds so it’s fancy, yes? I live in a small city in northern PNW and I paid $23 at a casual dining place last night for a half chicken ceasar salad. 😭
