Queen Camilla arrived in the Caribbean over the weekend, joining her husband after he had flown solo to multiple countries last week. King Charles was famously the most well-traveled Prince of Wales, but as king, you can tell that he no longer travels well, and that all of this takes a real toll on his health. Camilla has never traveled well, and whenever she joins her husband abroad, she looks gin-pickled and exhausted. Well, here are some photos of Charles and Camilla in Antigua and Barbuda this week. They allowed Camilla to taste-test local liquor to get her through the day.
Obviously, the biggest moment of this Caribbean Flop Tour already happened over the weekend. That was when Camilla and Charles went to a ceremony marking Antigua and Barbuda’s independence, only for the skies to open up with a torrential downpour. Camilla ordered someone to bring her an umbrella and she quickly staggered off, leaving her cancer-stricken husband to get soaked. She didn’t even offer Charles a chance to get under her umbrella. He stood there, watching Camilla trot off, and he was visibly fuming and yelling at her. The Mail’s coverage of the massively viral moment tried to help Charles and Camilla save face. Apparently, their aides were to blame! LOL.
A royal aide was blamed for an umbrella blunder during a Caribbean downpour which left King Charles drenched – on a visit overshadowed by demands for slavery reparations and calls to strip him of his role as head of state. The monarch was seen waving frantically and telling staff to ‘bring it’ after being left soaked to the bone in Antigua.
As Queen Camilla beat a hasty retreat, Charles turned and gestured in exasperation towards staff as he paced on and off the podium, appearing to mouth: ‘Where’s the umbrella?’ At one point, he even mimed holding one.
Charles was attending celebrations marking Antigua and Barbuda’s 45th anniversary of independence, just days after the country’s prime minister renewed demands for Britain to pay reparations for slavery and reiterated his desire to see the King replaced as head of state.
Back in Britain, ministers are facing mounting pressure over reparations after Andy Burnham opened the door to an official apology for Britain’s role in slavery. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, meanwhile, has insisted Britain has ‘had enough of apologising’ for its past and has rejected calls for reparations.
‘Umbrella-gate’ and the King’s soaking was a rare misstep by Buckingham Palace’s usually seamless operation, particularly given the optics of the day. Aides would ordinarily have checked the forecast and ensured an umbrella was immediately to hand. At one point, the King’s police protection officer could be seen hurrying staff to bring one over. His Majesty was eventually handed an umbrella by his equerry, Major Ben Rigby, who had been forced to run back into the stands to retrieve it from the rest of the entourage. By then, however, the King was soaked, with his lightweight summer suit appearing see-through in places.
It’s too funny that they’re blaming this on aides. Granted, I do think the palace aides were weirdly slow to get an umbrella to Charles, but that doesn’t change the fact that Camilla (most likely) grabbed the umbrella meant for Charles and then abandoned him to get soaked even further. I could not believe how much the videos blew up on social media. Too funny.
King Charles is not amused as torrential rain leaves him soaked through during a ceremony in Antigua on his Caribbean tour.

The King’s Caribbean tour was hit by a downpour, leaving the King shouting: “Where’s my umbrella?” to Palace aides while watching a parade in the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Camilla was handed an umbrella by Major Ben Rigby, the King’s equerry, but there was not one for Charles who was left standing in the rain. The rain stopped as Charles inspected those taking part in the parade.
By the time he was inside, he appeared to have seen the funny side of his soaking. He told the Antiguan prime minister: “I think I’m about to grow watercress on my suit!”

🤣😄😂
And he’s the one who insisted she be called Queen, not just Queen Consort or Duchess Such-and-Such.
Well sir, your staff treated her like a queen, just as you insisted.
Also, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, I’m not sure it’s you/Britain who gets to decide when the UK has “apologized enough” for Britain’s role in perpetrating the horrors of slavery, and the ways many white people in the UK continue to profit off the generational wealth accumulated due to slavery.
Pretty sure it’s the party that was wronged that gets to say when an apology and reparations are sufficient.
There seems to be something missing in the relationship, concern?
@Sunnyside Up, a relationship built on betrayal, deceit, cheating, immorality cannot be relied on for loyalty, care, etc, when most needed.
Camilla is out of control, the incident with the umbrella was akin to a bolting horse.
Frequently appears shambolic and disoriented, during engagements which must be an embarrassment to the monarch and of concern to the institution. Consideration should be given to retiring her asap.
@Haley
How about retiring ALL OF THE COLONIZERS.
While I wouldnt wish an elderly person to be uncomfortable or miserable, this had me cackling. They are miserable people and clearly not much kinder to each other. LOL.
Camilla is gross on every level. When I saw how much she resembles Charle’s childhood nanny his issues became obvious. The whole family is groas. Charles has gotten the wife / kid and mockery he has earned. Down with the monarchy.
Couldn’t charles have asked in advance for an umbrella. He treated his employees in a bad way in front of cameras. Where’s the investigation. Lol. Camilla did not pay attention to her husband’s meltdown
Actually it’s one of the basic rules for an Equerry. An umbrella should always be immediately available if needed. The now retired ‘Super Equerry’ Lieutenant-Colonel Jonny Thompson was good at this kind of thing. There’s footage of the King visiting some kind of trade venue in London during an on/off rainy day. Seeing the umbrella maneuvers was quite impressive. At one point Charles handed the brolly to one of the trade venue officials accompanying him. Jonny Thompson glided into position, politely relieved the official of the brolly and was ready for when the next raindrop fell to open it and pass it swiftly to the King.
Yes, I noticed how he treated his employees with condescension in front of everybody and I did not hear any royal commentator say anything about it. Imagine if Duchess Meghan would have done the same? They would have shredded her days!
Im sure if Meghan was one Island over they would have said it was her fault.
They haven’t already? surprise surprise.
For all the years that we’ve heard about the royal staff being the “gold standard” of service, they really are a slovenly bunch. It seems that they rarely miss an opportunity to make their boss look bad, especially during important events, leaking pens anyone? I wonder how many of them secretly resent and dislike the tantrum prone man-child they work for.
They have another one following this one.
Yeah I laughed aloud when I saw the phrase “rare misstep.” Please. It’s not rare at all. The BM just propagandize everything but even they can’t paper over this video that got circulated all over SM.
KFC has now “been bested” by two pens and one umbrella. Watch this space.
I can’t wait to see what object next flummoxes and humiliates him.
Yeah, notice how the words “rare misstep” always precedes an actual criticism of the Windsors. But, in this case, I actually don’t think that they go far enough in blaming the undoubtedly underpaid aides. I would also blame the weather and that dastardly sky for raining in the rainy season of the Caribbean. Then, I would blame the umbrella industry for not foreseeing this and selling more umbrellas to the Windsors.
Yes, it’s like all the gravitas and respect died along with Elizabeth and now they’re half-assing it.
Yeah, it really did. No matter how much the press tries to hide it, the BRF is a poor shadow of itself.
Well, we’ve seen the monstrous tantrums that Charles will throw *on camera* when something doesn’t go his way – the leaky pen, the missing umbrella. He’s visibly upset whenever he is made to wait, whether it’s Camilla taking too long to join him on another tour or the Wales making him fume in his carriage during the coronation. We have heard stories about him attacking his own staff in private when the cameras aren’t there, and one of the first things he did when he ascended the throne was sack a whole bunch of people who had worked for his mother and put guys like Michael Fawcett and Clive Alderton in positions of authority.
He seems awful to work for, and maybe good, competent people don’t want to work for him, y’know?
Never complain, never explain? Ha!
Exactly. Just throw a pen or swear at someone, that’s the “royal” way.
There’s a photo of Meghan holding an umbrella over for Harry while he gives a speech in the pouring rain. Maybe the BRF should take a lesson from the Sussex.
https://x.com/Gonzalezz1Z/status/2117237962433839345?a=rNHiWvVgifB_7yysDKE&s=20
That’s lovely, especially the look on her face.
In that clip there were also lots of others on their team anxious to hold open an umbrella over Harry’s head. Harry looked at the man in front of him and said something like, “No thanks, I’ve got my wife,” which seemed so sweet. So, in that case there was preparation on the part of the Sussex team and a considerate spouse.
For the other British people who think it’s always sunny in the Caribbean, June to December is the rainy season and most people always have their umbrella just in case it rains. A sudden downpour can also happen even in the dry season. So people always have their umbrella. The Palace aides should have been prepared because they were visiting in the rainy season. But Charles reaction was illuminating, it confirmed Earl Spencer’s observations about Charles. He’s quick to temper and very pampered. Charles probably should have been sent out with an umbrella in the first place and Camilla is just a selfish person.
I was just going to say this. I’ve been to Caribbean islands several times during the rainy season and it almost always rained every day at 2:00 pm. Like clockwork – torrential rain, and then sun again. The aides should have been prepared, but it almost makes me wonder if the local officials weren’t being a bit passive-aggressive with their king. Someone should have had an umbrella to hand.
Everyone at that ceremony was getting soaked. But only the royals needed umbrellas? Yes, Charles has cancer but his own wife seems unconcerned about that as she marches off with the nearest umbrella. Meantime, all the people being rained on (all the Black people) are expected to just suck it up and tolerate the Monarch’s literal meltdown. For me, it became a kind of metaphor for the colonial mentality.
I meant “ex-king.”
Yes I said that yesterday. It can storm suddenly in the Caribbean but the aides should have known that and been prepared. This is one situation where I do blame the aides – I honestly can’t believe they dont always have an umbrella close at hand, even a little travel one for emergencies. Maybe that’s what QEII always had in her purse lol.
(Charles’ reaction is not the fault of the aides though. Thats his temper showing through.
Definitely blame the aides, but on the other hand the RF seem to purposely undervalue the quality of professionalism. A lot of these jobs seem to be underpaid and held by people who got their positions through connections, not from strong resumes.
Really, it’s a trope – the British and their umbrellas. Like the umbrella scene with Captain Wentworth in Persuasion – “Though I came only yesterday, I have equipped myself properly for Bath already, you see.”
Why not use a canopy? It would shelter them from both the sun & the rain. They use one at home, why not abroad? Heaven knows they bring enough cr*p with them, why not that?
Aside from the hilarious umbrella incident, it’s too bad the monarchy wasn’t smart and aware enough to realize that these kinds of visits have no place in the modern world. Not that they ever really did, mind you…
charles has been all wet forever…the old garden tool made sure her fat ass got out of the rain
Prince Philip never did this to QE2, to the best of my knowledge? Always made sure he kept behind her when on show.
In Camilla’s case, she left the stage even after getting an umbrella. That part also amazes me. She could have remained to cover him too or, oh I don’t know, just to be professional since she’s getting well paid for it.
Christ these people are awful. Entitled, rude, petulant, boorish, stingy, wrathful, jealous, lustful, hypocritical, sanctimonious… they’re like a catalogue of the seven deadly sins. Every time they said Meghan “didn’t know how to behave,” that was just code for, she didn’t indulge them. She wasn’t impressed by their amateur hour antics. She held people accountable & expected them to be professional. And they weren’t. None of them. The family, the grey men, the rota, the close protection officers, RAVEC, the silly performative patronages, the whole toxic ecosystem, and the billions it swallows. All a huge waste.
Incompetent nincompoops, the lot of them.
Camila is 79 years old. Yes, she should have turned and thought of Charles, but wouldn’t she have thought there was an umbrella for each principal? It is absolutely the aids’ fault. She should’ve stayed, but at near 80, people aren’t problem-solving so fast. The king’s people are supposed to be pros at this. No matter what the weather says, you should always have a couple of umbrellas ready in the wings, for intense sun, or to shield your principal from view for some reason.
Gotta say, her umbrella, like the late Queen’s, is one of the see-through types that’s supposed to be worn down over your shoulders but both Camilla & QEII held them like a standard umbrella, which sort of defeats the whole see-through aspect. My point is, those are very much designed as a one-person umbrella & cannot be shared. If you tried to hold it over someone else, you’d both be soaked.
The issue is not that she grabbed the closest umbrella without a thought to her sick or dying husband. The issues that she bolted like she was fleeing the scene of an accident (google it), presumably so that she wouldn’t have to surrender said umbrella to her aforementioned sick or dying husband.
Can you imagine Prince Philip bolting like that? Or Diana? Or pretty much anyone but Camilla? I mean there was an entire army standing at attention getting soaked the skin and she’s like “so long, losers.” (The look on Charles’ face as he realizes he is one of the losers is comedy gold. I am sure they had words that evening,)
Now maybe she can be excused if the rain rendered her white dress and undergarments completely sheer, but that is just poor planning. Who keeps dressing these royals in chiffon and stilettos for a visit to the tropics?
As for Charles, he can’t be blamed for not having an umbrella, but he can certainly be faulted for throwing a full body tantrum like a toddler in a grocery store. I mean he was there to play the role of ‘Divine Leader’ and torrential downpour or not, I don’t think he managed that as well as he could have.
My goodness, this video is the funniest thing I’ve seen since Nigerian Wicked! (see SNL UK)
The sight of Camilla grabbing the umbrella, covering herself without even looking at Charles, then trotting off as if he didn’t even exist was priceless!
Then King Charles furiously agitating and gesticulating before realising he was again revealing his temper to the world, just after suffering the embarrassment of the entire world seeing that his Queen doesn’t give a toss about him. You can see him sheepishly switch to taking a more humorous take on the whole thing.
Too late, damage already done, and the entire world is laughing!
I definitely see a future SNL skit in this video. It will be glorious.
Sorry, I’ve been an assistant and not keeping track of the weather and having a sizable and attractive umbrella on hand for immediate use is a grave lapse.
That said, the way those two behaved was childish and hilarious.

You get what you pay for, and the BRF is notorious for paying meager wages to its employees.
Well done, Assistants. I would have collected extra rainwater in a bucket to dump over Charles’ head.
Who would have thought it would rain in the Caribbean at the tail end of hurricane season? These people are utterly incompetent and bad planners. Charles looked like a drowned rat.
🤭
No, these two are PERSONALLY to blame. Horrible people. Disgusting, really.
I cannot imagine a full-grown adult leaving the house/hotel for an event & not running everything through their mind about what they’ll need for the day. I just cannot understand abdicating my thinking to someone else & just living in this empty void where I have no thoughts of any kind, not even basic self-comforts.
Former event planner here, and same. I always had insomnia in the weeks leading up to events because my brain couldn’t stop thinking about all of the various contingencies!
This video is funny because Chuck is ridiculous, but someone really did screw up their job by not having an umbrella for Charles, too. Tasks like that are part of these people’s job descriptions.
I did see the video where they had a good laugh about it right after. They were pulling at their soaked clothes. That was cute and real.
Yeah, right. I bet Charles was seething.
Of course Charles’s staff is responsible for their master getting drenched. Do they hate him? Are they just nincompoops? However, nobody can be blamed for Charles’s petulance and his lack of grace and poise. Here clearly is a person raised to think only of himself, who is always the centre of attention, never taught to share, and when things go wrong it’s always someone else’s fault because a whipping boy is part of the upbringing. Anyone familiar with the tropics is aware of sudden downpours. Charles is always wondering around with an umbrella in the UK. Does the staff think so little of the Caribbean that they don’t bother to find out about the weather, which I assume is a major factor to consider in any travel? Camilla and Charles reveal what a classless inconsiderate duo they are.
I’m still laughing over this. Camilla’s smirk makes her look the Joker’s much older sister. MUCH older.
William really is his father’s son. I can see him doing the same thing to Kate. There’s a photo somewhere where he’s taken the umbrella to leave Kate behind as Harry scolds him. Such gentleman.
There are NUMEROUS photos and videos of William leaving Kate behind with the only umbrella – you could make a slideshow of them all.
This is not his first public temper tantrum. He’s been caught throwing tantrums several times. I suppose we now know where Williams gets his anger issues.
They got the day they deserved. Sorry, NOT sorry.
That’s why I can’t be “arsed” to blame the aides. These Windsors are coddled enough, so let them take one for the team once in a while.
Diana sent that downpour.
Or at least I hope she did.
As for Camilla, taking her brolly and hoofing it, horses do have to avoid rain rot.
I am surprised no one yet has said anything about how much more crucial it is to shelter Camilla from the rain lest she melt.
😂😂😂
@Margaret, I’m so annoyed I didn’t think of this yesterday! Well done 👏
They should have brought their canopy with them, heaven knows Billy & Katie won’t be using it. Speaking of, and I know somebody mentioned it yesterday, but isn’t it odd the Bill is out of the country while Charles is, too? Shouldn’t the next in line be at home, filling in? That’s standard stuff in the workplace, the boss is away & there’s an Acting in place.
How many “rare missteps” is that now? Do they understand the definition of ‘rare’?
I don’t understand why the host nation didn’t prepare for rain as an eventuality. This one’s on them, I think.
But the pictures and videos of Camilla are priceless.
Nah. I am with Charles on this one. And was for the leaky pen as well. In such a position you have to rely on your staff to be on it. And I would be supremely p…ed off, if not only there is not an umbrella in my hand as soon as the downpour starts (which would have been the job, you check the clouds and have an umbrella at the ready BEFORE the downpour sets on) but also I have to gesture and shout so that my (sloooooow) staff start realizing there is a problem and get me a f….ing umbrella. Just watching this makes me exasperated with his staff on his behalf. Your one job is to ensure the king looks good or at least not drenched. And if it happens like it did, you run for this second umbrella before the king has to ask for it. Same for the leaky pen. I mean come on. He is signing the coronation, it’s a once in a lifetime thing. Please ensure the pen works. For C…. Sake. And if not you spot immediately that there is a problem, whisper „a new pen will be with you in seconds“ BEFORE he has to gesture for it. Oh well.
