CBS to launch women’s talkshow with minor celebrity panel, similar to The View

Do we need a competitor for a talkshow that so many people find annoying? CBS thinks we do. They’re set to launch a six-person discussion panel show similar to The View and featuring minor and mildly familiar celebrity moms Leah Remini, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete and Marissa Jaret Winokur. It will be hosted by Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen. At least Kate Gosselin isn’t on it. The show will be on this fall in the same time slot as the soon-to-be canceled As the World Turns. If I was an ATWT fan I would be pissed!

CBS is getting a new view. Early Show co-anchor and Big Brother star Julie Chen will be hosting a new View-like talk show on CBS this fall. To replace As the World Turns, CBS has confirmed they’re starting up a talk show with Julie as host and five other ladies, including: former child star Sara Gilbert, sitcom star Leah Remini, America’s Got Talent judge Sharon Osbourne, actress Holly Robinson Peete and Broadway star Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Sounds similar to The View, but this show will be based in L.A. According to CBS (via New York Magazine’s Vulture), the women, who all have children, will talk about their home lives on the show.

The show is set to make its debut on CBS in October, just after As the World Turns comes to an end in September.

[From OK!]

I have a higher tolerance for The View than Kaiser, who recently wrote that the show upsets her and “contributes to the dumbing-down of the American public, especially women.” There are five main panelists on The View, and often just four since Barbara is recovering from heart surgery. I prefer it when Barbara isn’t on, as she adds a kind of nasty judgy undertone to everything and Elisabeth ratchets up the rhetoric to try and impress her when she’s there. The show can be interesting at times, and as obnoxious and short-sighted as Whoopi is, I have to admit that I like her. I don’t agree with all of her opinions by any means, but she’s fun to watch and keeps the discussion flowing.

I don’t know much about the women who will be on this new version, except for Sharon Osbourne, who has a hair trigger temper and is mean-spirited and cruel. There’s also Leah Remini, who is a Scientologist with resulting childcare problems. On the other hand I have a positive impression of Holly Robinson Peete and Sara Gilbert, and am neutral on Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Will this show be interesting, though? For people inclined to watch The View, it could be. For all of us who don’t watch or only turn it on occasionally because we can’t stomach dumb heated arguments, we’re not likely to be interested in a competing show. Plus it seems like a disaster to have six women on at once. Are they all going to interview the guests? Maybe they’ll rotate them out so they’re not all talking over each other.

YES! I will watch! I really like Sara Gilbert, although I think she is an odd choice because she is still acting. She is super funny on the Big Bag Theory. eh, maybe she can do both.

  2. lisa says:

dang.. leah.. too much make up or something.. Don’t know if I will watch.. The View has pretty much killed my faith in women discussing issues in a coherent manner. All that squawking. It is embarrassing.

I guess these women need work. The dynamics are interesting.. Leah has a Rosie O quality to her.. very brash. I think Sharon is too overexposed. and Holly may be good. So we will see.. or not.

  3. Bella Mosley says:

Who is the top pic – I thought it was Tammy Fay Baker when I saw the make-up but she is no longer here, so I am lost for who it is?

  4. Pont Neuf says:

Does the world really need another show where a group of women who are not qualified to talk about anything, throw monumental tantrums just because the rest of the world doesn’t agree with them?

Most of the women mentioned in here are C list celebrities at best, and I cannot imagine anyone least likeable, intelligent and educated than that venomous old witch Sharon Osbourne. The dictionary definition of “filthy chavscum” should have her photograph as an illustration.

As for ‘The View’… Well, I bet they will have to scream, kick and cry harder now that another bunch of illiterate cows will atempt to do a show in which intelligence is murdered daily in the most infantile ways possible.

What a train wreck! How did this awful idea happen?

“Chen announced in April 2009 that she was pregnant with her first child with husband Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Television”

No other station would consider putting chen-bot on the air and she has 3 shows…way to go CBS.

  6. saphira says:

Yay! I absolutely can’t stand The View but somehow this sounds promising. Leah, Holly, and Julie are all great and should raise the bar for this type of show.

  7. Statler says:

Herein lies the beauty of capitalism- marketers consistently pursue the lowest common denominator.

I agree with Kaiser, Lisa & Pont Neuf. It’s all so mind-crushingly stupid.

  8. Tess says:

It’s a stretch to imagine that any of them (with the possible exception of Robinson-Peete) look at anything in a way that the average person can relate to.

hot mess Scientologist Rimini, mega-bitch Osborne, robotic Chen.

I just don’t see the mass appeal of another cast of dumbed-down harpies commenting on current events.

  9. missmilly says:

    *MEGA EYE ROLL*

  10. guesty says:

blah & boring. won’t be watching.

  11. Missfit says:

I don’t like The View either and NO, women aren’t always right, but neither are men. It WOULD be interesting to see a talk show like that of men, to see wtf they bump their gums about. They’d go on and on too about women, how they bitch too much and this and that, the way women may think men are men. It’s not always the men, or not always the women, it can be either gender. People will always base their opinions, no matter what. Not even all doctors or therapist are right and they have degrees for it. I like Holly Robinson, I’d hope if she were to be on this show, she would bring up important topics about Autism, I can relate to her on that subject and as a mother in that situation.

  12. Oi says:

Oh, this will be a total success. In the competition for the most vapid, screaming, embarrassing women on television of course. What really kills me is that its always these morons that scream about ‘the issues’ when they are a huge part of the problem.

  13. Picopink says:

I agree with CB and the other posters- but- I did love Remini as Carrie on King of Queens.

I might tune in once to see if she is like Carrie in real life and gives verbal smackdowns to the other women- esp. that witch Sharon Osbourne- lol.

  14. Feebee says:

Rimini and Osbourne? What are they trying to do, cause a huge ratings bump for The View?

  15. mommy says:

oh goodie, will they talk all over each other and sound like a bunch of idiots too?
I will totally watch it though, I love Leah!

  16. blueplanet says:

I actually like the sound of this, hopefully less dumbed down than the View

  17. Tia C says:

@ Bella Mosley: That’s Leah Remini with WAAAAAAAY too much make-up on. She played Kevin James’ wife in “King of Queens.” Looks like she’ll be playing Tammy Faye Bakker next…lol

Yet another stupid show I won’t be watching.

  18. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

I don’t really have time to watch Soaps any longer, but teh fact that Soaps are disapperaing and MORE TALK shows are appearing makes me sick. I am so tired of talk all day and then talk shows all night.

How pathetic that people rely on these shows to tell them how to live their lives.

  19. Jeri says:

Bad Programing Decision. I will never watch, especially with Leah, she’s just the Scientologist Ass-Kisser of JLo.

  20. Bella Mosley says:

    Tia
OMGosh. Thanks. I didn’t recognize her. Quick, someone get her a mirror and a tissue to wipe some of that mess off her face!
You are right, she could play Tammy Fay Baker so well. Hmmm Maybe she is and was caught just after a scene. Yea, that must be it! LOL

  21. Anonymous says:

Can’t hang with Remini, Scientology princess. She can take her anti-psychiatry babble and shove it. Having this crazy conspiracy theorist giving advice and opinions on network TV is a sad day for America.

  22. iriD says:

Don’t like Remini, Robinson-Peete was a real bitch on Celebrity Apprentice, but unlike most of you I really like Sharon Osbourne. I am a long time watcher of ATWT, though, and so I will have to boycott this show just like so many of us did with that game show that took the place of Guiding Light last year.

  23. SolitaryAngel says:

I don’t know why so many of you have such a problem with Sharon Osbourne—I love her because she doesn’t put on airs and pretend to be your friend to your face. If she doesn’t like you she lets you know it and I consider it refreshing. I’d watch the show just to see her! If I watched daytime TV, that is. I don’t have time but might TiVo the first episode or 2 just to see. 🙂

  24. erica says:

WILL WATCH LOVE THE SOUND OF SOMETHING NEW GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE LADIES AND BEST WISHIES FOR THE SHOW
