Dominic Monaghan hasn’t yet been requested for our Hot Guy Friday posts, but I would like to nominate him. There’s something earnest about him, he’s got a super cute accent, and while he’s not traditionally hunky he does have a kind of ruddy appeal. Dom recently played the abusive love interest in the Eminem and Rihanna video, Love the Way you Lie, also starring Megan Fox. A lot of you noted that he was super sexy in that video, and he was – when he was making out with Megan instead of fighting with her. He was so troubled and unhinged-looking when they were fighting, which just goes to show what a great actor he is.

Dom made an appearance on the premiere episode of L.A. Ink, which aired on Tuesday. He had Kat Von D ink a quote from Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back on his forearm, “Luminous Beings Are We. Not This Crude Matter.” The videos of Monaghan on the show are below, and I like him so much after seeing this. You can tell that he’s proud to be a working actor but the guy just seems realistically confident and not arrogant at all. He’s also just the right combination of geek and movie star.

Dom explained his motivation to have that quote permanently inked. “In the past four or five years or so, I’ve gotten more and more into the idea that this [gestures to his body] is essentially just a shell for what we’re trying to achieve.” He later explained that “I think the quote is something that will resonate with me for the rest of my life, because I do think that the body we sit in is a shell for the important thing that’s really happening inside.” He may have been feeling particularly spiritual as he was on crutches after breaking his foot in a surfing accident. Sometimes injuries and close calls help us realize what matters in life.

Dom asked Kat for an optical-illusion type image that made it look like the skin was peeled away to reveal the quote. While he was getting inked, he explained that he’s a “Big Star Wars fan. That is the reason why I became an actor.”

He loved the results and said “It looks kind of knarly… I was blown away by it to be honest.”

This week’s National Enquirer claims that Monaghan is still pining for his “lost” love, Evangeline Lilly. They use his quote that it was “work” to film that video with Megan Fox as evidence that he’s still hung up on Evangeline. Dominic said “It’s work. You have to understand that cameras are being pointed at you and they’re in your face and people are telling you to move this way or move that way. It’s not terrible work, but it is work.” The Enquirer quotes a source who says that Dominic “still can’t get Evangeline out of his head” and that “he is devastated and not even kissing Megan Fox can overcome that feeling.”

I was trying to remember when these two broke up, and reviewing our past stories they split for the first time way back in November, 2007 when Monaghan’s character was killed off Lost, but then got back together by February, 2008 and were said to be engaged last summer. We didn’t cover their breakup after that point, and I’m having trouble Googling it so maybe they kept it quiet. We then heard earlier this year that Evangeline was dating a production assistant.

I hope it’s not true that Dom is still hung up on Evangeline. It would make sense since they were together for so long, but there must be plenty of women he can console himself with. I’m sure that there are all sorts of interesting lovelies who would like to break off a piece of Dom’s luminous being.

I didn’t know they broke-up. It’s the same familiar story – you meet someone on set, you are spending a lot of time together, one thing leads to another. But then the project is over and the relationship falls apart or burns out.

Anyway, he seems like a jerk when I see him in interviews, and Evangeline seems like a real ice queen. T

  2. Strawberry says:

I love him, and yes hot guy forever. But a Yoda quote, seriously?

  3. K says:

Love Dom. He was amazing in Flashforward.

I’d like to hold his luminous being against mine!

  4. photo jojo says:

  7. womanfromthenorth says:

kind of met him in Hawaii at the beach.. twice. I said hi there and he and his friend hi… next day same place.. same time. This time I made sure my Sister was aware he was there… she did not doubt me but it was nice to see him again.

  8. Solveig says:

At least he’s reversing the words intentionally.
    Rihanna, take note.

I love him since LotR, and his character in Lost (Charlie Pace) was – is – one of my favourites along with Desmond, Faraday and Ben.

  9. Katie says:

I never thought I could be attracted to a man who would get a Star Wars tattoo, but I actually really like that quite and he is very likable in the video. He’s a good actor and I think he has a sexy voice, especially combined with his accent.

i second the vote for him on Hot Guy anydays! 🙂

and especially knowing he is a geek at heart like me!! a yoda quote, amazing

  11. xxodettexx says:

  12. jen says:

You mean he didn’t get “Flower Rebel”?!

  13. TQB says:

Love him. He is one hot little hobbit. Please consider this an official request for more of him on HGF!!

  14. Quinn says:

Tattoos are for you and nobody else. Maybe Rhianna likes it better that way? It’s her right. And he likes Yoda, good for him because again, he didn’t get it for you.

  15. LindaR says:

I don’t think he is cute at all unless you are into elves. The flaired nostrils, pushed up nose, lack of a chin, pointy teeth, and general appearance of hobbitness and resemblance to someone with cognitive deficits is not what I find attractive. Not that I care if others think he is cute. Just sayin’. But if a female celebrity had those features everyone would be on it like white on rice.

  16. Bodhi says:

I’ll console him!! I think he is supa hot!!

  17. Solveig says:

@xxodettexx, Sayid! I don’t know why but I always forget to include him in my personal list of favs Lost characters! *shame on me*

  18. EMV says:

    gnarly

  19. SolitaryAngel says:

I’ve always liked him, after LOTR I watched all the “behind the scenes” extra clips and he was so funny and very likeable. Then when he was in LOST, I was devastated that they killed him!! And he popped up in Flashforward which was cool but then they canceled it! Argh! Why is destiny (and TV stations) keeping me from my weekly dose of Dominic?!?!?
    ;^P Hot Guy anyday indeed!

  20. Praise St. Angie! says:

seems like a cool dude, but count me in the “not hot” category.

the OTHER little hobbit, Pippin…now THERE’S a cutie!

  21. K says:

I love how Dom’s posts turn into LotR gushing. How effing adorable were he and Billy Boyd as Merry and Pippin?! The firework scene in ‘Fellowship’? SO CUTE.

    “It comes in PINTS?”

  22. Praise St. Angie! says:

    @K…

    “what about second breakfast?”

  23. K says:

    @Praise St. Angie!

“Anyway, you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission. Quest. Thing.”
“Well that rules you out, Pip.”

  24. Jag says:

After seeing him on the episode, I have a total crush on him now. He was good in Wolverine – not that he had a huge role or anything – but he was good.
