Glee’s Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray) in Vanity Fair

Dianna Agron’s dress at the Emmy awards was made of fail and made a lot of worst dressed lists. It was really bad, like tiered tacky hideousness and not fashion-forward risky bad, and it made you wonder 1. how she thought it was ok to go out of the house like that and 2. how all the people she came into contact with allowed her to wear that dress without trying to talk her out of it. She looked like a cake topper.

Agron, 24, stars as no-longer pregnant former cheerleader Quin Fabray on Glee. I actually thought she was 18 or 19 and only just learned she was 24. She plays a teenager convincingly well and her poor taste in fashion made me believe she was much younger.

Somehow Agron scored a profile and slideshow in Vanity Fair. Lainey at Lainey Gossip wonders how much rivalry has to be going on behind the scenes on the Glee set now that Agron is taking some of the attention away from queen bee Lea Michele. I don’t think Michele has much to worry about, especially considering Agron’s complete failure to do much more than look gorgeous and wear an ugly dress at the Emmys. Lea owned that red carpet.

Agron also sounds a little dumb in the interview, in that she likens her upcoming film, I Am Number Four, to “Rebel Without a Cause. With supernatural elements. And aliens.” Lainey read the book it’s based on and thinks that’s so off the mark. In Lainey’s review she even wonders if Frey is spoofing other teen-focused supernatural books it’s so bad. Lainey wroteSome of the dialogue seems flagrantly – and hilariously – horrible. The overwrought interminable final battle scene becomes almost comical by the end. And the love story, the challenged romance between the supernatural and the human, sound familiar?… I have to believe [Frey is] taking the piss.” I guess we can’t expect Agron to grasp the subtleties of the book, especially if the director, Michael Bay, is “playing it straight” as Lainey mentions.

We’ll see if Agron is a contender, but from what I’ve seen of her so far the answer is no. Lea can stick her nose up on the red carpet and realize that she’s still running the show. Agron sure is lovely to look at though and I like that the other young Glee stars are getting some attention.

  1. Bite me says:

She is hollyweird pretty so she will appear in more magz than Lea

  2. Ruby Red Lips says:

Isn’t there room for them both??

Agreed she is Hollywood pretty so will do well regardless of her acting skills

  3. Jean says:

Lea Michele’s dress was just as awful.

  4. EMV says:

I met her a while ago in NYC and she is very nice and much prettier in person ( I didn’t think it was possible)than in print or on TV.

She an Lea are both talented, pretty women, and I believe that there is definitely room for both of them. There are MANY non WASP and WASP women who are doing just fine in Hollywood. That being said, Dianna needs a new stylist.

  5. kiki says:

She also made a lot of Emmy best dressed lists.

  6. Bam Bam says:

Why the harsh words for this girl? She looks prettier on video than in stills. The dress is different, not horrible, not great, she wears it ok.

  7. Rachel says:

I think she is gorgeous but that dress was awful. She and Lea are apparently good friends and actually used to be roomates.

  8. marie says:

I really like that dress. Guess I have bad taste, too. Thought it looked beautiful with her coloring.

  9. Cam says:

She’s awesome and beautiful. Yes, that dress was horrible, but she’s talented and has a pretty hollywood-face. Lea and her are really good friends, so I don’t see why they should be competing.

  10. Louise says:

    I like the dress.

  11. The Old KC says:

I understand the name of this site is “celebitchy” but I also don’t get why they can’t just equally be fabulous. Why can’t women support each other instead of constantly having to vie for position in the pecking order? Haven’t we evolved past that? Yeah, I know – wishful thinking on my part. 😉 I happen to be fans of them both. Tacky dresses notwithstanding.

  12. Charissa says:

That dress wouldn’t have been so bad if it were tea or just below the knee length. It’s just way too much fabric for her.

  13. Obvious says:

I actually liked the dress-it would have looked a lot better if it stopped just above the knees and for a different event but she looked gorgeous.

  14. kelbear says:

I’m still shocked that Lea was Joan Rivers choice for best dressed!

  15. amber says:

i liked the dress. her makeup/styling for the vanity fair shoot, however, is off.

  16. funnygirl says:

She is so pretty-I don’t think shes *that* talented but I like her she seems like a sweet girl, theres just something appealing about her..She’d be good in rom coms I’d say..

  17. Katie says:

I don’t think this photoshoot does her justice. Maybe the makeup is off. I’ve seen her look much prettier than this.

  18. susanne says:

I think the dress would have been better if it weren’t tiered. That’s the problem with it. Look at the under-thingy. It’s got wide horizontal black and white stripes. Wild, I think. This could be a fabulous dress, and it works with her coloring.

    Makeup was great,too.

  19. nnire says:

i liked the dress too and have also seen it on several best dressed lists. it was definitely a fun risk.

i also agree with the comments about how there is room at the top for both of the actresses, so no need to be catty. one of the many things i love about Glee is its fantastic ensemble cast! if it was just Lea’s character all the time, it would get very annoying very fast.

as a side note, i loved seeing my fav Glee actors Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer at the Emmys.

  20. grisgris says:

I love that she is so fair and doesn’t slather herself in orange fake tanner. She looks lovely.

  21. trishy says:

She’s certainly beautiful, but her acting on Glee is fairly one-note. Her (speaking) voice just doesn’t emote at all – it’s just a flat monotone.

  22. Alipop says:

She’s GORGEOUS. I love her eyes.

  23. Melissa says:

Love the dress she’s wearing in the VF spread, but agree that the Emmy dress was v. fug. I like her, though, not least of all b/c my daughter’s name is Quinn, so how could I not?

  24. Hollz says:

Anyone else think she would’ve been the perfect pick for Roselie in the twilight movies? I’m not a twitwat, but thats what I thought while watching her in Glee.

  25. Persistent Cat says:

I love her lips in that spread. I know there’s photoshopping and great make-up skills but will all that, my lips would never look that good. I hate my ugly thin lips and would love to be able to wear bright red lipstick.

  26. lucy2 says:

She is really pretty on the show, these photos aren’t that great of her.
I don’t like her Emmy dress, it looked even worse on TV than in photos, but it sure got everyone talking about her.

  27. kim says:

LOVE HER! Such a natural beauty. I think she has a long career ahead of her. And she dresses appropriate which speaks voulmes to me these days with all the half dressed Miley Cyrus’ of the world out there. I predict we will see alot of her in future.

  28. Shy says:

Well… Lea’s career outside Glee is… to bring her butt to EVERY event in Hollywood. Like literally every. There are her pictures on JustJared every two days. This is how she thinks she will become famous?

And Dianna’s career outside Glee is… movies. I agree with Lainey. Being such fame hungry as Lea is… and there she has to witness how Dianna is getting one movie role after another while Lea has zero. And let’s face it – when in 2 years Glee will probably be canceled since everybody were tired from it at the end of this season – what career will Lea Michele have? She is the perfect example of the rule that when popular show get’s canceled – most of their stars are never seen again.

Remember how suddenly Hayden Panettiere become so popular when Heroes started? And she basically vanished after show lost it’s ratings and got canceled. And the only reason why she sometimes appears in press is because of the height difference between her and her giant boxer boyfriend. And how suddenly most of the Lost stars vanished. Something tells me that Lea Michele will vanish too. Sadly but same probably will happen to Dianna Agron too. She looks… empty inside. Pretty face but no personality.

  29. nanster says:

I don’t think the Vanity Fair shots of Diana Agron are flattering at all. I think she looks great at the Emmys, though. Someone else said that the Emmy dress would have been fine without the tiers – I agree. Glee is a fun show – I’m glad to see something on other than reality TV. :p

  30. Liana says:

when in 2 years Glee will probably be canceled since everybody were tired from it at the end of this season – what career will Lea Michele have?
    **************

Broadway. Lea Michelle annoys me, but she does have talent.

And I liked Diana’s dress, but then, I am not exactly known for my taste. Actually, I would like it if it didn’t have that second tier on it.

  31. Shy says:

If Lea Michele will go back to Broadway that means that only one group of people will still now that she is alive. The people inside the Broadway business. Because Broadway people don’t get invited to Oscars, Globes, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone Photo shoots…

This girl goes to every event out there. She wants fame so much. And still when she goes out there – majority of celebrities don’t know who she is. Remember that photographer who asked her who she was? Celebrities don’t watch tv shows. Majority of them probably know who Jane Lynch is. But i doubt that if they don’t watch Glee they know who Lea is when she runs in those parties or awards. And as soon as Glee will be canceled she will loose her invitation to Globes, SAGs, Emmys and other.

  32. Ko4701 says:

I think that Dianna looked perfectly fine and so did Lea. I think what was written was wrong. And I think there’s enough room for them both. Btw, I bet Dianna’s one of the nicest people you could meet.

  33. you're ugly says:

You’re probably just insecure and won’t be as pretty and as elegant as Diana. At least Diana doesn’t look and dress like a bitch/whore like other celebs. Plus she’s humble. Lea will obviously get all the glory because she’s the main protagonist. But Diana is still prettier and nicer than Lea. Period.

  34. Susi says:

Look I hate this dress but if you look at other dresses she’s worn to events she’s usually got good taste. I think it would be pretty easy to make mistakes when you’re trying to take fashion risks – the best dresses are always right on the edge.

On another note, no way is this girl stupid. Check out her blog, I just about fell in love with Dianna when I read it. She’s intelligent, well-spoken, arty, interested in literature, indie music and photography, supports a lot of great things like rescue dogs and arts projects, and has a beautiful, whimsical style that I love. She’s also involved in a lot of projects outside of Glee that are really interesting – short films, photo shoots, etc – and not as the starring actress. I’m so impressed by her.

Last point: looking at the blog I’m pretty sure all of this “bitch-fight” gossip about Lea & Dianna is a load of crap because they seem to be pretty good friends in the personal snapshots and comments Dianna has posted.

In summary, both Dianna & Lea are gorgeous and talented, they seem to be friends and all is pretty much roses (except that one horrid dress).

  35. Jessica says:

Wow this is a bit harsh. Sure Dianna is a pretty girl but she’s also very well spoken and extremely sweet, a very hard thing to come by these days. She is living proof that you can have beauty and brains.
