Lots of people are billing this story as “ZOMG Jakey & Swifty FOREVER” but if you read the brief report carefully, there’s nothing to indicate that. People Magazine claims (suspiciously) that Jake Gyllenhaal flew to Nashville yesterday to have lunch with Taylor Swift, the chick he dated for less than two months and then dumped over the phone. Considering Jake was butching it up, flirting with every available vagina (“Ew,” Jake says) at the Golden Globes – while also bringing an “ex-girlfriend” as a date – it really didn’t look like Jake was mourning this relationship at all. Meanwhile, Swifty has been a mess, and she’s been diligently working on the definitive breakup song which will include the words “Brooklyn latte” and “Camilla Belle” and “Gaylord”. So… this just seems like Jake went to Nashville as a stop-gap measure, so he wouldn’t look the asshat who dumped a 12-year-old over the phone.

The two stars, whose brief relationship fizzled in December, arrived quietly together on Wednesday at Bound’ry, a restaurant near Swift’s Nashville condo, and were led back to a table for two, according to another patron.
“They did eat,” the patron tells PEOPLE. “They were cordial to one another, but not affectionate.”
The two were last spotted publicly together on Dec. 9.
Swift has been lying low in Nashville in recent days, rehearsing with her band for a concert on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, where she will perform on Friday, and for the Asian leg of her Speak Now tour, which begins in Singapore on Feb. 9.

But yeah… Jake and Swifty aren’t getting back together, in my opinion. He realized that the whole situation made him look terrible, and he’s trying to do some PR stuff to make it look like he’s not a dick.
UPDATE: People Mag just updated their story to include this “eyewitness” quote: “There was no holding hands, but they seemed happy together. They sat next to the fireplace just chatting away.” Ugh. What kind of game are you playing, Jake?

Agree 100% with your assessment Kaiser. This is damage control by Jake’s people after Taylor’s people went to Us Weekly. IMHO it’s a good move.
Also why wouldn’t they look happy? There shouldn’t be too many hard feelings considering it was a PR stunt in the 1st place.

He’s playing damage control, is what he’s playing. Unless he is a genuine nice guy and really does feel sorry for hurting her. I really like Jake, and I’d like to think the second option is true. But I don’t know…

I hate that horrible first catch-up dinner with an ex after he’s dumped me. When I have to pretend like I am totally over it and don’t care, and I show up with waaaay too much make-up, pretend to text wildly all night like I have a brand new busy social life, and practically throw myself at the waiter, then spend the rest of the evening thinking “yeah, that totally went well. A friend of mine waited on him at a restaurant. He (my friend, who is gay) said his gaydar went off a little and that Jake likes his wine. A lot.
Jake gave an interview recently stating that he disliked the tabloid scrutiny and was, in his words, “a very private person”. LMFAO at that whole statement! He dislikes the scrutiny yet he fake dates America’s biggest tweeny pop star, knowing full well how much publicity it would generate. When that didn’t work out as planned, he took his ex-girlfriend as his date to the Golden Globes, again knowing everyone would talk about it.
As others have pointed out, this is damage control coming from Jake’s side. He has a movie coming out in the next few months and Jake needs the public back on his side to make it a box office success. It remains to be seen if this latest attempt to dupe the public will work given the fact that most people didn’t buy the relationship in the first place.

One more thing to add which is interesting, Bound’ry is THE place to go to if you’re a celeb who wants to be noticed. It’s the Nashville equivalent of the Chateau Marmont or The Ivy, you don’t go there for intimate dinners or privacy, so it looks as though it was their intention to be spotted together. These two are hilariously bad at fake dating.
Yeah, they didn’t go to the Boundry to have a quiet dinner, lol. I go there quite a bit, and it is definitely a see-and-be-seen kind of place. I don’t agree that it’s Chateau Marmont caliber…anyways you’re just as likely to run into a celeb at Bread and Company or Whole Foods as you are in a restaurant in Nashville.

Maybe he’s not playing a game. He seems like a genuinely nice guy to me. They may have just been having some fun and are still friends. They may never have been an “item”. Maybe they were both just lonely and just hung out for awhile. I don’t know why every instance of famous people spending time together must have a label and then the people lambasted if they don’t always fit the label.
Something that dawned on me is how Brad Pitt seemed to wander around sort-of lost,for so long, even married to JA. It was only after he got involved with causes outside himself that he seemed to come into his own. Jake looks lost like this now. I think he needs someone to turn him on to activism and causes he can believe in and devote his time to, in a really involved way. I think that might bring him into himself more.
