John Galliano’s drunk, bigoted ass has been fired from Christian Dior

wenn3031801

John Galliano hates Jews, Prada handbags, and Asians. He loves Hitler and alcohol. Natalie Portman hates John Galliano, and loves defending rapists. And now Christian Dior’s parent company LVMH has just made the executive decision as to which side to come down on. Galliano is out. Good for them, honestly. I’m glad they didn’t drag this junk on and on over weeks or months.

French fashion house Christian Dior fired John Galliano on Tuesday after an online video clip circulated around the world showing its star designer shouting anti-Semitic abuse at people in a Paris bar.

Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman, who was signed to promote a Dior perfume, said in New York that she was “deeply shocked and disgusted” by the video and no longer wanted to be associated with him.

Galliano, one of the world’s most famous and long-lasting designers, was suspended by Dior on Friday, hours after a couple complained to police that he had shouted racist and anti-Semitic comments at them in a Paris bar.

A separate complaint was filed by another woman on Saturday for similar behavior from the British designer in October.

“I very firmly condemn what was said by John Galliano, which totally contradicts the values which have always been defended by Christian Dior,” Christian Dior Chief Executive Sidney Toledano said in a statement.

Paris prosecutors are expected to decide by the end of the week whether Galliano will face trial over Thursday’s incident in the trendy Marais neighborhood of Paris.

Galliano’s dismissal comes on the first day of Paris Fashion Week and three days before his Dior show was due to run on Friday.

It was not clear whether the show would go ahead, although on Monday, the press office of John Galliano, the designer’s own label, said his Sunday show was still on. Dior is the leading fashion house at LVMH, the world’s biggest luxury group.

[From The New York Times]

Yes, now I’m wondering what will happen with the show. It sucks for Galliano and Dior that Galliano’s final collection is tainted by all of this stuff, because I bet that there was a lot of pretty stuff that would have sold well. Considering LVMH has handled the Galliano situation so quickly and effectively, I tend to think that this collection will just be swept under the rug. But we’ll see.

    Huzzah!

  2. devilgirl says:

WOW! And he calls others ugly! Guess he doesn’t have mirrors in his home or office.

  3. Rita says:

What will he do now? I hear Two and a Half Men has an open casting call.

  4. brin says:

    Good….they did the right thing.

  5. Roma says:

Anyone who grows a mustache like that shouldn’t be trusted.

  6. Isabel says:

    Love. It.

  7. DGO says:

The question begs, just how many people in the fashion industry knew Galliano’s views? Because someone can’t be THAT crazy and keep it under wraps.

  8. Hmmm says:

w00t! It’s heartening to see justice done for a change.

  9. Diane says:

    Good riddance. Next!!!

  10. Yael says:

Now go kiss Hitler’s remains, you punk…LOL…now, why is he “famous” for??? other than the Furer’s line and such a creepy face???

  11. Phoenix says:

I do think his collection will be tainted by all of this. I do own a few bits by him and he really is very good but this is all so fresh. I can watch Disney films without worrying too much about Walt being some big jew-basher but this whole thing makes me cringe a bit. Only time will tell I guess?

  12. EdithP says:

Maybe he can do a Rock of Love for VH-1 — he looks ready for it in that second photo.

  13. Jackson says:

How does one get a braid like that? I am fascinated by it! And good for Dior, although I assume it’s a bottom-line type decision and not necessarily a moral one. I predict he will blame it on the booze, will go to rehab, repent, and make a splash somewhere else in a year or so.

  14. Jenny says:

My goodness is he ugly! This is why I buy my clothes at Gap and Target!!! Too much weirdness in haute couture.

  15. Bee says:

Yay!!! I wasn’t sure if Dior would have the guts to dump him. Hopefully this will send a message to bigoted a**holes everywhere. It’s 2011 and society will not tolerate their disgusting behavior any longer.

  16. dread pirate cuervo says:

@Jackson, I think it’s a regular braid in that last pic, but his hair is heavily highlighted/lowlighted.

  17. KsGirl says:

I bet Dior is totally pissed that video surfaced – they HAD to fire him. If that hadn’t come out I bet those weasels would have fudged it and kept him on.

Jackson – it’s called a ‘fishtail’ braid and is fairly simple to do – Google it!

  18. daisydoodle says:

you would think he would have been more empathetic with people who are “different”. Oh well, lesson learned, see ya! I’m just embarrassed I bought a Dior handbag last year.

  19. Ari says:

    Thank f*ck!

  20. Jules says:

Maybe Mel can hire him to decorate his house.

  21. hairball says:

Tell me if you saw this guy on the street you wouldn’t clutch your child and run??

  22. seVen says:

now he’ll have plenty of time for his bromance with Mel Gibson!

  23. LisaMarie says:

@jackson. Its a fishtail braid. Just google it – its not too difficult.

  24. Helen says:

@jackson, it’s a fishtail braid. You take two sections of hair and then have three little ones wrap around it, or something like that. I’m sure the internet has better directions. They’re a pain though.

  25. Cherry Rose says:

Glad to know that the fashion world isn’t as forgiving as Hollywood.

You would think that someone who is gay would understand the trials of being persecuted for simply being a certain way. I’m sure that growing up, he was probably the victim of vicious anti-gay slurs and the like.

It would make you think he’d be more sympathetic to people who experience those same things, simply for being born different.

    Sad, isn’t it?

  26. Katyusha says:

    @ Jackson

he’s wearing a fishtail braid, they’re easy to do!

  27. Gwen says:

    Yay for Dior!

Superficial note on his work for Dior: I think it’s been stale for quite a while. This might work well for them in more than one way.

  28. Jackson says:

Thank you all re: the fishtail braid – Google is my friend!

  29. Oenix says:

The funny thing is that he could easily pass for one. It is self-hatred?

  30. carrie says:

weird! i guess Dior compagny wanted to fire him since some time because Gallianno reanimated Dior clothes and he sells very well

  31. The Truth Fairy says:

    @Rita — LMAO!!

And to Galliano — karma is a Vatican Assassin Warlock!

  32. DSMR says:

This guy looks like he just tied some poor girl to the nearest train tracks.

  33. sisi says:

@ Jackson It’s called a fish braid, it’s very easy, you can find tutorials for it on youtube.

  34. texasmom says:

OK, why would anyone want someone who looks like the V for Vendetta poster dress them?

Gotta find out about this fishtail braid! What would I do without this group?

  35. Bailey says:

its amazing how he can design such beautiful clothes, can be so ugly inside.

  36. Cha Cha Loca says:

WTF would you call his own personal style? Princess Pirate, Dandy Highwayman??? WTF.

  37. KJ says:

Definitely trying a fishtail braid soon.

On a more serious note, I’m actually kind of surprised that Dior handled this so quickly. Usually when a well known, talented piece of an international company comes under fire, there’s always a lot of shuffling of feet and deliberating before any concrete decisions are made. They did the right thing by firing him, not only for their customers, but for themselves as well.

  38. Eve says:

They had to fire him. There was no other option after his arrest and that video.

  39. Nibbi says:

actually feel kinda bad for Galliano and yah i know this could make me unpopular. in the video he’s blasted out of his mind and the people surrounding him don’t sound as shocked and horrified as is made out in the press… they are laughing and prodding him on with questions. not that his ugly words are okay, but my gosh, neither is pc tyranny! have we gone too far?

  40. flotus says:

Woo hoo! Could not have happened to a better person……(using the term loosely)

  41. Angel says:

Dior fashion show will start at Sunday, as planed. I think because it’s part of Paris Fashion week.

  42. cindy says:

Well the Nazis didn’t like gays either or drug addicts. I think we know what side of the door of the gas chamber he would have been on. How can this thing call anyone ugly? Now he will be poor, ugly, no connections, and nooooobody will ever have to have sex with him again. Boo hoo.

  43. Rasputina says:

Wow, what the hell ever happened to freedom of speech and thought, my dear division of white knights?

  44. lio says:

Galliano is a baby compared to Christian Dior’s niece. In 1963, she married Colin Jordan, a british nazi. Click here if you care: she says shit like “when I have children , I will teach them to protect and fight for our race, fight for the führer” and “Germany is our Holy Land just like Palestine is for the jews” and then she finishes by describing her “nazi” wedding
    http://www.ina.fr/video/CAF96034711/mademoiselle-dior-va-epouser-un-nazi-anglais.fr.html

  45. texasmom says:

@Rasputina — hey, he has freedom of speech and thought. Nobody ARRESTED hims. He is simply enjoying the social and professional consequences of his entirely legal actions.

  46. Sumodo1 says:

Good. Now, all the Galliano ass-kissers will have to account for their beehavior! Good!

  47. malina says:

Isn’t he gay? I don’t think he’s aware that one of the groups Hitler ‘targeted’ were homosexuals…?

Hate to burst his bubble but there is very slight chance them two would agree on things if ever had an opportunity to meet…

  48. Magye says:

I agree with malina and exactly what I thought.

“Isn’t he gay? I don’t think he’s aware that one of the groups Hitler ‘targeted’ were homosexuals…?”

  49. Bill Hicks is God says:

He should have been fired for those Pippi Longstocking on a Bender braids.

  50. olivia says:

    @jackson

fishtail braids are easy to do. separate your hair into two sections. take a small strand from the outside of one section and cross it over section. now take a small strand from the outside of the other section and cross it over the the other section. Repeat, repeat, repeat…

  51. Oenix says:

Someone wanted him out real bad. Put up with him for a long while then decided it was time to make space and set him up. He is so use to making statements like that without any ramification, it took very little to get him going and BINGO!!!!! At least Kaiser Karl knows when to keep his trap shut!

  52. agingslacker says:

@texasmom, thanks so much for addressing that so eloquently. Say/think what you like but deal with the social & economic consequences of your bigoted remarks or narrow mindedness. Especially if you’re foolish enough to voice them in front of an audience, some of whom may be prospective buyers of your boss’s overpriced crap.

  53. Majosha says:

@hairball: YES! I would run away in horror with a kid tucked under each arm.

  54. malina says:

“This should be society’s response to every form of prejudice.” as commented by Rita under other post on this topic.

Too bad nobody really cares when it comes to other nations, religions or any prejudiced group. I’m sorry but I see some inconsistence here, and paradoxically this is always treated superiorly to other discrimination and hate cases.

The way I see it is it’s all or nothing.

  55. kmn says:

@DGO Exactly. If he was really filled with such hate, I have to think others in the industry or in the company would have known. It’s really so disappointing, as he is such a talented man. But I think it also just goes to show that in many cases, as long as you are making a lot of money for those in charge, they will gladly turn a blind eye to any personal issues – just ask Charlie Sheen.

  56. normades says:

I totally defended him at first but now in light of the video I just have to suck it up.

However, that video is really short and he will most certainly say his “I love Hitler” statement was sarcastic and taken out of context. And a well known black or Jewish person (like Noami Campbell) will probably be making some kind of statement defending him soon.

Rumor is that Dior wanted to can him for a while (he’s old and the collections are not as successful as they once were). This is actually all very convenient for them

  57. Ron says:

As other posters have mentioned. A gay man siding with Hitler?? That is monumental stupidity at work there. Having worked in Hollywood for awhile now, it is amazing how many people are really talented in one area and complete morons in most others. He is a great designer and showman, but not exactly a student of history quite obviously. Tool.

  58. gentlekate says:

I’m thrilled he’s been swiftly fired. I’m sick of anti-Semites thinking they can start that crap all over again and get away with it. Never again!

Then there is the ‘ugly’ thing. Galliano calls other people ugly? Does he own a mirror?

  59. Jeannified says:

He sure shot himself in the foot!

  60. womanfromthenorth says:

He looks like a Jewish Pirate!

    Stupid….

  61. Jilly says:

He looks all sucked up and on drugs – probably needs to get to get back to AA with that type of erratic behavior. Plus, he was at a bar, therefore everyone was probably buzzed or more so, God knows it was probably the booze talking and who know what the other people may have said to provoke the fight – I mean how did a video get shot – does anyone think that is weird?

  62. jane16 says:

    What gentlekate said!

  63. See John Galliano got fired by Christian Dior… calling people Jews and saying he loved Hitler… can’t really say he was a fashion victim then LOL!

  64. Good for Dior! Galiano is a bigot and an idiot. If he loves Hitler so much, doesn’t he know that Hitler kept the gays for experiments on humans? oh maybe that’s what happened to him: some nazis sucked his brain and made him stupid.

  65. WTF? says:

FYI – Anti-semitic comments ARE illegal in France and many other European countries.
He is in fact facing charges, as he should be.

And I’m bothered by people saying that he didn’t mean it because he was drunk. When I’m drunk, I don’t turn into a racist. No amount of alcohol can turn me into an anti-semite.

  66. Shay says:

Even his ‘label’ will be closed down, as his very ‘name’ – in terms of being a label only – may be owned by LVMH. So even though he may be able to use his credit cards, I doubt he’ll be able to use his name as a fashion designer/label, if it has been trademarked by LVMH.

Look, there is no doubt that there are many people with similar opinions, when drunk or otherwise, out there, but their choice to air those opinions varies. Galliano, like Mel Gibson, was stupid enough to think – in a grandiose way – they are above it all due to their fame, only to realise that their celebrity cannot withstand thoughts that relate to a barbaric mass murder that is still fresh in the minds of most Jews (who are bound to have relatives that have died in the Holocaust).
And for those who think of Galliano’s comments as casual comments, well prior to the construction of concentration camps by the Nazis, most anti-semitism began as casual events, ‘comments’, seemingly occasional violence. But the thing is that when these thoughts are endorsed by celebrities, and nothing is done, then the masses think that ‘it’s okay’. I think it’s good that the Gibsons and the Gallianos (along with other academics, like David Irving, who was jailed for his views in Germany recently) are ostracised in this way. There is no logic to the comment ‘I love Hitler.’
And that comment alone indicates how unstable Galliano is. If he lived during Hiter’s heyday, he’d be the first to be turned into soap for being a rampant homosexual. Because the Nazi’s didn’t just kill Jews, they spread their sadistic hatred to all homosexuals, gypsies/Roma, the handicapped, and basically anyone that they didn’t really like.

    **
Will women who have bought the John Galliano fragrance keep their bottles as collector items now? I doubt that the fragrance will continue. He’ll become a ‘name’ for the wrong reasons.

  67. Bill Hicks is God says:

@#58 (Again, can’t read the handle): “A gay man siding with Hitler??”

Why yes. His name was Hermann Göring. The SS uniforms were designed and made by Hugo Boss, btw so maybe we should be directing our attention elsewhere…

  68. Mag says:

@Gwen – agree. His shows have become pastiches of actual clothes. His actual clothes are boring and old looking. What keeps Dior afloat is parfums/makeup and accessories.

  69. House Mouse says:

“Anti-semitic comments ARE illegal in France and many other European countries. He is in fact facing charges, as he should be.”

Yes, but this taliban attitude toward any critic of foreign population is leading to excess, and people try to compensate what’s fobidden by becomig excessively critic / racist. It’s a fact in Europe.

In this case, Galliano exagerates, he can’t pretend today that he never said something not racist. But what is really shocking it’s his love for Hitler. It’s not racist, it’s nazi. Racism exists everywhere in our tiny brains when we’re upset about someone coming from elswhere, it resurfaces, let’s be honest, but we don’t turn Hitler’s adorers.

Galliano lives in France, when the population has a deep depression due to the immigration issues, a blues that visibly brings back old nazi reflexes !

  70. House Mouse says:

“Natalie Portman hates John Galliano, and loves defending rapists ?”

What ? Thank you Kaiser for the info, it’s imbelievable !!! How can she do so ?

Could you tell us more ?

  71. House Mouse says:

“I’m just embarrassed I bought a Dior handbag last year.”

Why ? Dior it’s hundreds of underpaid fantastic people working to make nice stuff and make you dream. They’re not responsible of what’s in a head of a British snobish psycho-diva, turning bigot.

You should be proud of wearing Dior, they’ve fired him at the worst moment, just before the release of the last collection.

If tomorrow someone goes racist elsewhere, I won’t punish hundreds of well working people because of one drunken degenerated man (or woman).

    “Dior, I adore !” 😉

  72. Trashaddict says:

The header photo looks like Prince, Michael Jackson and Snoop Dogg had the offspring from hell.

  73. Crash2GO2 says:

I have to think, that for a person like Galliano (filled with hatred for himself – because you know that is at the root of this) Hitler must seem like some kind of god, albeit an evil one. Able to smite someone like Galliano in an instant (which of course, deep down, he probably feels he deserves). That would inspire admiration as convoluted as it seems. And as others have pointed out, he is far from the only gay Hitler admirer.

    Just a theory…

  74. LondonLady says:

where is the link to the video?

  75. Lola7 says:

I’m scared to even think what is lurking under that hat of his. He looks gross.

  76. Joanne says:

I think it is now time that John Galliano deals with his drinking problem, it is so ironic because if he lived at the time of the Nazi regime he would have died in the gas chambers because he is gay. It is a pity that his creative ability has lead him to become a uninformed bigot, rather than a creative genius and inspiration.

  77. nnn says:

In Brussels, Belgium, some years ago, a radio anchor was fired without compensation and no rights to get some social help, the morning after he described Venus Williams as a smart MONKEY during one of her match in Antwerp. It didn’t take 24 hours to decide and implement it. He uttered those insults in the evening, they were complain from people who heard it the same evening and the morning after her was asked to pack his things and to leave.

An official organisation against racism : SOS RACISM was one of the civil party to press charge against him the same day and he was facing at minimum a fine or jail time.

Jean-Marie Lepen, the far right politician had his european deputee mandate and his elegibility in France asuspended for two or three years (don’t remembered anymore) for making jokes about gas chambers.

Galliano is stupid. He is European, Europe has been destroyed by two World Wars during the past century and some people are still traumatized by that. I personnally know older people who can’t even stand till this day to sit next to a German citizen.

They remembered very well that Hitler was democratically elected. Several european countries have laws against those hate crimes and have an even bigger reflex when it’s anti jew hatred. They know it all started by tolerating hate speech.

    He should have known better.

  78. Eve says:

@#58 (Again, can’t read the handle): “A gay man siding with Hitler??”

Why yes. His name was Hermann Göring.

    @ Bill Hicks is God:

I agree. Galliano being gay wouldn’t necessarily make it impossible for him to be friends with Hitler. There was also Ernst Röhm (co-founder and leader of the “Storm Battalion” — the “brownshirts”). Very close friend of Hitler and the only one he addressed as “du” (Röhm was also the only one who called him “Adolf”). And Hitler knew he was gay — granted, everybody knew since Röhm was openly gay. The reason he was forced out of the army (and later executed) was because Göring himself, plus Himmler and Göbbels positioned against him — yet, Hitler reluctantly ordered his execution.

  79. Str8Shooter says:

The long-lost love child of Prince and Pippy Longstocking emerges at last!!!

  80. Rosanna says:

Galliano’s words and preference is indeed a bad thing.

But, last time I checked, having a despicable view wasn’t a crime, and certainly not something worth being sacked over.

I hope Galliano will sue for wrongful termination.

If you can’t see my point, think of this… say you work for a boss that has a pro-life stand. One day he becomes aware you are a pro-choice and he sacks you, because he finds your view offensive to him and not in line with what his business represents.

    How do you like it?

  81. Ja says:

Wow, I’m suprised by all the hate comments. WTF does Dianne mean by “Good riddance. Next!”? Erm, like what next? Next John Galliano for Dior? And the rest of you who are so quick to kick the guy off this planet, what about you? No spare thought for a true genius of a designer? No reflection of the fact that his behaviour was more stupid than dangerous or that every one of you do stupid things, especially while drunk? Well, that would explain why some of you are so quick and short sighted. Miss Oscar holder Portman didn’t have to put her foot in it either. She must have known the damage. Does it please her much that there will be no more great Dior by Galliano? Apparently yes. I really think the crime and punishment in this case are in disproportion. The embarrassing situation he’d landed himself in should be enough of a punishment, as the crime is remarkable. To make him part with his work at Dior is just too much. What justice will that serve? None. Everyone will still remember what he did so when he continues with his own label, he’ll have that in his face all the time. Oh yes, he also lost his job. Too bad… for Dior. Anyone who really follows fashion knows that if you line up work of all contemporary top designers to compare, two will stand out immediately as the most close to pure art of all: Alexander McQueen and John Galliano. John did get a lesson but as much as he’s gutted over this, I predict him a bright future. Not sure what happens to Dior thou…

  82. elaine says:

    @trashaddict –

    Yeah.

IMHO – He looks like an extra from an outtake from Pirates of the Caribbean. One of the dead ones.

  83. Rex says:

He is pretty racist. Maybe he can design clothes for America’s Christian Right. They seem to embrace all that neo nazi stuff.

  84. snappyfish says:

One of my favorite bags is the black leather saddle bag with iron (looks like a real english saddle) from Dior.

The house will be fine. I am just surprised that everyone is acting all shocked and shaken about this. He is known throughout the industry as being a bigoted little bitch.

  85. nnn says:

“But, last time I checked, having a despicable view wasn’t a crime, and certainly not something worth being sacked over.”
    ———————————–
Last time you checked, you didn’t check it in every country’s legislation.

And last time I checked it is indeed a crime in France, as well as in other european countries.

He is European, has been working in France for years, he should have known better that not only he was breaking the law but he was also acting in contradiction of his professional contract brteaking the terms in it, a contrat that specifically states that such behaviour would not be tolerated and will lead to immediate suspension of your professional contract.

His employer could even sue him for betraying his contract terms and making them lose money. He is in a profession where public image contributes to a brand and he taints it..

There is a code of conduct in most Enterprise which if you break it would be considered as a grave fault and lead you to be sacked without financial compensation.

You enter an organization, an enterprise by accepting those terms by signing your contract. If youn break it, don’t except that you won’t be sacked.

Now in this case, it’s even worst because not only he was at fault according the terms of his professiponal contracts but also, he committed a crime according the french legislation, hence there will be an investigation and he will probably be fined.

  86. House Mouse says:

    Update :

    1. Galliano goes into rehab ! Good for him ! He needs help and we regret that his outburst was so hateful. (And he hates himself first, as someone said it so well).

    2. He was presented to a Judge today in Paris. Congrats for being so fast ! He could spent 6 months in jail, it’s the maximum he could get, and will have to pay 22.500 euros. Now, I hope he will be treated with humanity and medical help because he’s a human being who can be saved ! Portman is a white goose, her speach was immature.

The child rapist defended by Portman had less ! Nothing !!! And you can’t compare Galliano drunken talking, out of control, to a premediated rape of a minor girl.

On one hand what a good news that this racist talk send poeple strait to the judge, but on another one, what a horrible attack on free speach when many negative things are in progress in Europe, where Galliano leaves, and in the world. We need very much to talk about politics, religions with what happens today, and talk quietly and openely. I guess now, everybody will be paranoid. Galliano had an access of mystic nazism, a horror to me and to you, and he should be treated and punished for it, but please take care of the freedom of speach when necessary. And help to bring back his humanity and good feelings.

  87. He may have apologized, but I still don’t think that John Galliano is sorry for what he said at all because he was merely showing his true colors if you ask me!

There is very distinct legal and moral difference between freedom of speech and defamation of an entire ethnicity. He deserves all of his legal and professional troubles. On one of the vintage sites that I peruse, (but cannot afford anything from) they are selling a significant amount of Dior/Galliano pieces. Nobody wants anything to do with that sh**head.

  89. Bitter Scribe says:

Does this dumba** have any idea what the Nazis would have done to him?
