Emma Watson’s lace booty shorts & Bieber hair: awful or cute?

fp_6978016_ang_watson_emma_lancomecomm_17_18

Emma Watson was still in Paris yesterday, filming those Lancome advertisements that just couldn’t wait until Spring Break. Previously, we’d seen her in unfortunate shoes, a frilly pink dress and a leather jacket, topped off with her hair slicked back. Her outfit for this outing is even worse – lace booty shorts, a blazer and a thin tie, with her hair no longer slicked back. And… now we can see that her awkward haircut is the same as Justin Bieber’s awkward haircut. Both hairstyles (the same hairstyle) are pretty bad, and unflattering to their faces.

If possible, these new shots of Emma have made me even more “meh” towards her appointment at the newest face of Lancome. I guess the famed beauty behemoth is aiming for “accessibility” at this point, and yes, I’m saying that in a completely bitchy way. That’s what Emma is – accessible. She’s not intimidating. She’s not inspirational or aspirational. She’s an average-looking girl, styled badly and chosen for this gig to bring in very young female consumers who would normally be buying Wet N’ Wild. This makes me really sad.

Those lace booty shorts are just awful too.

the booty shorts are pretty aweful, but I really like her hair.

  2. brin says:

Yeah, don’t care for the shorts but I think her hair looks good here.

  3. Rita says:

Strangely, I sort of like the shorts. They’re not provocative. As for the rest of the outfit, well I’m glad she’s wearing something.

  4. Annie says:

I just can’t be bitchy to this girl. I think she looks great. I love the whole outfit and hair. She has a graceful presence. Lancome is going to make a killing with this campaign.

  5. saintdevil says:

Since when does she have this permanent bitch-face going on?

She used to look so cute, now she looks conceited and bitchy…

  6. malachais says:

While the lace shorts are fug, I can see alot of celebs wearing this crap. She looks cute though, I like her hair.

  7. flourpot says:

Horrid clothes but it’s not like she has a choice, there. Love her hair.

  8. di butler says:

Am I the only one who thinks it’s funny how such a big deal was made about how she wasn’t like other teen stars, she was going off to university to grow. I see her growth lasted one semester. Because she needs the money, yo.

  9. Flan says:

She looks unique. So much better than all those one-look-fits all types that populate Hollywood.

  10. helen says:

Stylist on this shoot, I applaud you.

    *slow hand clap*

  11. anyhoo says:

I think she is beautiful, love her hair, can take any time she wants off school and is a inspired choice to be the face of a beauty product.

But yeah the clothes are not very good.

  12. Violet says:

Horrible styling but that’s not her fault. I do think her hair is a bit unfortunate at the minute but i think it’s nice that she doesn’t stick in tacky extensions but is just growing it out the old fashioned way!!

  13. Arianna says:

tap shorts are innnn and i love them!!
love what she’s wearing, and i find her haircut very appealing and flattering?

don’t see the hate…lancome has done what they’ve done, just dont buy the products if you dont like it

  14. Geekylove says:

At the risk of being accused as sn immature hater ( and really, i do not think emma deserves some LL-styled warpath, and i don’t think she’s fugly)- she irks me to the sky and back.
No, don’t Like her acting. Don’t Like her pose and public image of an down to earth girl who chose education over …
    I’m not impressed.
I am biased, so my opinion doesn’t really count.

  15. orion70 says:

Outfit looks like a bad 80’s throwback.

And when I think Lancome, I do not think this age group. I think Isabella Rosselini, but I guess that’s just because her face was on the brand for so long.

  16. PrettyTarheel says:

    @di…
She doesn’t need the money. Recognition outside of Hermione, maybe, but definitely not money.

  17. ruru says:

One more vote for great hair, silly shorts.

  18. gabs says:

I still dont get why shes doing this lancome thing. Like mentioned above, she doesnt need the money. She did ads for burberry too. Maybe shes not quite so much the grounded down to earth teen star we thought. Im a little dissapointed about her dropping out of school. I know, its her life, im not her mom, but still.

  19. Jennifer says:

I don’t like the shorts but I think she’s cute as hell.

  20. di butler says:

@Pretty Sarcasm I know. Was going for sarcasm. She can do whatever she wants, but I still think the whole “going to college thing because she’s so serious yet willing to ditch it indefinately” is funny stuff.

  21. lulu says:

Just you wait til you see the post photo-shopping work on this! In this day and age, it doesn’t matter who models or who takes the snaps – it’s all down to what happens in the editing. She will be unrecognisable.

  22. Bodhi says:

I suppose the no matter how many times its reiterated that SHE DID NOT DROP OUT OF SCHOOL, people just won’t pay attention… Sigh…

Hate the shorts, love the hair & the hat

  23. RHONYC says:

    how ’bout a tie:

    awfully cute. 😉

  24. Stephy2585 says:

    I completely agree Rita.
When I saw the title I was picturing short-shorts but these are an appropriate length.

And why shouldn’t Lancome try to bring in younger consumers?
It’s much higher quality makeup and if they can afford it in liu of Wet N Wild, power to ’em.

Also, what if she did quit school?
It isn’t for everyone. I’m a few weeks away from finishing my Bachelors degree and while I’m incredibly proud of my accomplishment I did NOT enjoy a second of earning my degree.
Post secondary school isn’t for everyone. If my kids (when I have them! lol) decide not to attend university that’s fine. There’s plenty of other options, ie: college, trade school, military, etc. So long as they do something (legal) to become self-sufficient and happy.
Not attending University doesn’t mean someone isn’t grounded or ambitious..School is just one expression of it.
    Rant. Over.

  25. Arianna says:

    ^ ITA

    loved the rant 😀

  26. The Bobster says:

They look like underwear. Underwear is supposed to be worn “under”.

  27. iannah says:

bagay naman sa kanya eh………at ang buhok …………..katulad din kay justin bieber

  28. truetalk says:

i love d whole look;cute and very fresh!

  29. Bodhi says:

    ITA Stephy2585.

I had a very similar mini rant on yesterday’s Emma Watson story…

  30. Rose says:

    I love Emma Watson.

I will defend her for life.
and this is HER life. She doesn’t have to be any little girl’s role model. Realistically, anyone who is inspired by Emma to apply and get into Brown will probably not also take a break from college. She is young and beautiful and the world is her oyster. She got some movie/advertisement deals that she needs to grab hold of now. She is taking a break from school because she is WORKING. It’s not like she’s off stealing necklaces or dealing drugs.

Honestly, college can wait if needed. That’s why they invented the defer option.

  31. PrettyTarheel says:

@ di…Sorry, slow on the uptake this AM.

  32. Dolly Llama says:

I beg to differ with most. I absolutely despise the hair! It looks like conglomerate of butch soccer mom meets Justin Beiber. I don’t get how that hair is even remotely attractive on a male or female. The lace shorts actually bring some sense of effeminate style to the whole look. If you’re going to incorporate a more masculine tone to your wardrobe..nix the manly hairstyle. It’s a bit too much.

  33. BW says:

    Love the hair.
The clothing is the fault of the stylist.

I would drop everything I’m doing and fly to Paris if Lancome wanted me as their “face.” She’s working. I think that’s a legitimate reason to take off a semester or two. These sorts of jobs don’t wait for you to graduate.

My only complaint is that she doesn’t do good smile. Maybe it’s too many years of playing Hermione?

  34. Nanea says:

I like her shoes and the shade of her lipstick, can do without the rest.

While I generally like Emma, I don’t get what Lancôme sees in her. Unless they alter their brand a lot, e.g. packaging design, they won’t appeal to people Emma’s age.

And I don’t get why Emma wasn’t being upfront with why she is taking time off – contractual obligations for promoting Harry Potter. The Lancôme gig is just something that happened along the way.

  35. Delta Juliet says:

Love her, think she’s adorable. Hate the shorts….maybe it’s just the shade though.

  36. whatyousay?! says:

i loved the pixie haircut until you biebered it…kudos to your pervasive writing!

though she usually dresses well, She is not pulling off this outfit—it might work on someone else’s body/stature though

  37. Bodhi says:

Emma has been upfront about the HP promo work she is contractually obligated to do this year. The only reason that this Lancome story is getting so much steam is because she hyped it on her Twitter account & people took the ball & ran with it

  38. Ell says:

She’s always cute. Also love the hair. Don’t get the big deal about her taking a break, it would be near impossible to continue her studies while doing heavy promoting unless she had assistance of the additictive sort. For example, James Franco, it looks more and more like he indulges, unless he has a continually runny nose.

  39. gee says:

I think she looks adorable here, and I haven’t liked her style as of late.

  40. jover says:

She’s meh to me – I much prefer Isabella and the supermodels of the 80s/90s in cosmetic ads – hasn’t she made enough money from the HP thing. Shows you what Lancome knows there are tons and tons of young people that loathe the HP Twilight stuff so this could be just as much a turn off as a selling point.

  41. ordinarygirl86 says:

    Ugh this is very 80’s

  42. Jen says:

I would kill to have legs like that. *Jealous*

  43. My Darling Pinkett says:

I can’t be a fan of the shoulder pads or the hair. I just don’t find this attractive. She does have boy hair, and she’s not the most feminine when it comes to her features, which makes it all the more boyish. Hopefully it’ll grow out fast. Really fast.

  44. Lynda says:

I adore her. The styles she is wearing is not neccessarily her choice, thankfully.

  45. Sugar says:

    Ah! A Clockwork Orange!

  46. Lene says:

She is cute, but that’s it.You can take any average cute girl and turn her into a beauty with professional styling and make up.And did anyone see the photos of her and Weinstein? They were totally creepy, and inappropriate.I just don’t think she is the innocent young thing that everyone are making her to be.

  47. Michelle says:

I actually think this whole look would look better on someone else – a real model, perhaps.

  48. Solveig says:

I actually like this ‘Jules et Jim’ style on her, and those short aren’t awful, but her legs… odd! They are too thick for a girl as small-framed from the waist up as she is.

  49. Emily says:

Love the whole outfit except for the atrocious shorts. Ugh.

  50. snapnhiss says:

I dislike that haircut on anyone. And she’s very cute but she’s not particularly interesting looking. I can’t imagine they’re going to have eye catching ads unless they do a lot of photoshop on her.

  51. Gabriela says:

I like her, I like her style. Loved her leather jacket + nude dress and I also loved this outfit.

Also, I think she looks so cute in this Peter Pan esque haircut. I love it so much! It’s almost mystical.

  52. Magsy says:

Too Lolitaish for me. I think she’s still working on what she wants to be. Is she a child, a young woman, a boy or a girl?

  53. harfang says:

She’s like 18 or 19, right? She gets to play around. She didn’t have a normal adolescence. Cut the kid some slack.

  54. kikay says:

since when did she acquire that permanent b*tchface of hers.is she copying kstew? just wondering!

  55. Abby says:

aw honey.. no to the shorts and hat. But I’m sure Lancome put her in that, I doubt Emma gets to pick what she wears for advertisements.

Seriously people… SHE TOOK A BREAK FROM SCHOOL TO PROMOTE HARRY POTTER. NOT LANCOME.

Give her a freaking break! She’s not stealing necklaces or smoking salvia bongs. She’s working. sheesh!

  56. Sarah says:

Whoa, Kaiser. I usually agree with your opinions, but I have to disagree with this one — however badly styled, I think Emma’s a peach of a girl and I think she rocks the short hair well. I also have to disagree on calling these “booty shorts” — they’re fug as hell, don’t get me wrong, but they’re not what I would think of as booty shorts (not tight enough, too high waisted). But, that’s just me. Still love ya and your writing style! 😀

  57. Hakura says:

Personally, I can’t stand the haircut. (Then again, I have something personal against it, as I hacked my hair off super short like hers when I was 8, & absolutely HATED it. People mistook me for a little boy, & I didn’t have the ‘shape’ to prove otherwise. Totally ruined me for boy-cuts) >,<

I think Emma will definitely look much more ‘glamorous’ when her hair gets just a little longer. It’s in an awkward phase right now, & her face is oddly looking a bit androgynous because of it. She just needs a style a little more feminine.

  58. cat says:

awww, i love her look in this photoshoot though! especially the lace shorts, but it looks like most people gave it a thumbs down. i picked out some pretty cute lace shorts on my site if anyone likes them and is looking for cute ones!!

  59. ana antunes says:

i love her she looks always fine

  60. glatte says:

Okay for one thing i don’t think i’d call her hair style like “justin bieber” which really i don’t get why so many people refer to it as a “JUSTIN BIEBER HAIRCUT ” it’s not like he owns that style, it’s just a short haircut and i think its just adorable, just wished she didn’t have that fidore doesn’t really hold up. she’s isn’t really trying to be sexy. She can dress up in any way she likes. At least this fits better on her than most people i can think of.
