Teen Mom 2’s Leah Messer files for divorce after 6 months, invites MTV crew

I don’t watch Teen Mom 2 and have guilt about that as I enjoyed all the sad too-real drama on the original Teen Mom, but there are only so many shows I can keep up with. I’ve seen a little of it though, and from what I’ve heard Leah is the “good girl” on the show and tries to do the right thing and keep a sunny disposition. She has twin daughters and reunited with her babies’ father Corey and married him six months ago. That lasted a hot second, because Leah just filed for divorce and there are photos and footage to document it. The tabloids have been all over this lately, with In Touch claiming in late February that she was seeing another guy and OK! reporting just this week that she was dumped by Corey. Whatever happened, she’s going to get the maximum publicity out of it. Here’s a report from US Weekly about the divorce:

Six months after Teen Mom 2’s Leah Messer wed Corey Simms, the 18-year-old mother of two has filed for divorce, Us Weekly has confirmed.

Though the MTV star filed papers in Kanawha County between April 8 and 15, fans of the show shouldn’t be too surprised to see the two split. “Everything Corey and I have done has happened so fast,” Messer recently told Us.

After all, the pair dated for one month, found out they were expecting, split up just after the 2009 birth of their twin daughters, then reunited six months later. From there, it took just weeks for them to move into together and for 20-year-old Simms, a certified water-distribution operator, to propose.

“I didn’t want to jump into something else and be like, ‘Oh, s**t! What did we do?'” Messer told Us. “Three years ago, back before I was pregnant, I never thought I’d be married now. I was scared because a lot of people who marry young end up divorcing within a year.”

After all, Messer had seen it happen within her own family. “My mom and dad married, divorced, remarried and divorced again,” she said. “I don’t want my girls [Aliannah and Aleeah, 16 months] to go through that. My mom talked to me because she wed at 16 and didn’t want me to go through a divorce like she did.”

Despite the divorce proceedings, friends of the couple hope to see the newlyweds reconcile.

“They are not in a good place right now,” a source tells Us. “Their friends are hoping they find a way to make it work.”

[From US Weekly]

It sounds like they were too young and moved way too fast, maybe just out of a desire to do the right thing for their daughters. It probably didn’t help at all that they were in the spotlight on MTV. They’re going to have to be in each other’s lives as long as their daughters are minors so they need to work out a way to peacefully coparent.

There are photos of Leah walking around with the divorce papers, reading them to a friend and crying as MTV cameras film her. I think that just about says it all. Her wedding just aired on the show and we saw her October wedding photos three weeks ago and now she’s calling it quits.

She also got new implants. AMERICA! Number one in pure success.

  2. Isabel says:

And this, my friends, is the end result of children having children and playing house for the cameras.

  3. heb says:

They need to learn a lesson from all the other times they rushed to do something…give your marriage a chance before you rush to divorce court. Its not like breaking up with an 8th grade boyfriend because he did something dumb.

  4. Kayleigh says:

She broke up with him right after the babies were born for her ex, then realized how easy she had it with the baby daddy (who was working full time and paying for everything MTV wasn’t) and started to regret it immediately after. Yeah she’s not really a “good girl” she’s just smiles a lot and doesn’t punch people in the face.

  5. Jacq says:

That’ll make for a great episode of “I’m a Teen Mom But I’m Divorced and By The Way Our Nation is F*cked”
Not to mention her physical transformation throughout the season. No more lip ring, straightening her hair, make-up… Ugh.

SIDE NOTE: Every single Teen Mom participant this season has or is related to someone with a facial piercing. Just saying…

  6. jo says:

I always thought he was such a nice guy until I saw the episode of “unseen scenes” and he was telling her to shut the f up totally verbally abusive..

  7. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Not a shock that two teenagers who got married in coonskin park (and wore camo groomsman vests and ties) would be divorced in less than a year.

  8. guesty says:

I swore I wasn’t going to watch this train wreck this season but I did! *shame face* Anyhoodle…imo she’s just not in love with him even tho she tried to be.

  9. MrsOdie2 says:

Most teenagers have some kind of facial piercing. I’ve gotten used to them, as a hs teacher.

What’s really sad is that one of the twins has some pretty major developmental disabilities and will need a LOT of care. Neither one of her parents seems up to the task.

The family is in ruins. It’s very sad.

  10. Hakura says:

Is this the first time someone has invited the cameras with them while *actually* physically *filing* for divorce?

  11. Felicia says:

Haven’t watched this season but maybe somebody can tell me…

Have they shown the baby with the developmental disabilities getting all the therapy necessary either at home through early childhood intervention or at a children’s hospital. She doesn’t have to do this but she does have to sign a paper denying those services, so I’m just curious if it was mentioned. As a parent of a child with multiple disabilities I found that to be the hardest part to adapt to and deal with (and I was 29 with an early childhood teaching degree) so I would find that fascinating to tune in & watch. Can’t imagine how she could deal on her own (though she probably has more stamina than me!)!

  12. normades says:

Advocate birth control, this “abstinence” thing isn’t working America!

  13. jc126 says:

They have not revealed on camera what the disabilities are.
So many mixed feelings on this show – putting them on magazines DEFINITELY glamorizes these people.

  14. Mshuffleupagus says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  15. NoFrank says:

I want to know how one becomes a “certified water distribution operator”. Is that what I’m doing when I water my garden? And if so, why am I not making money with it?

  16. melinda says:

@ Felicia- Yes, the baby get’s treatment at home from a specialist, and they keep taking her to different doctors and specialists to try to figure out exactly what is wrong with her. No one seems to have answers. It seems to be really hard on her and Corey and they were trying to be there for each other. I guess it isn’t shocking that they broke up, but it’s pretty sad.

  17. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    Great!

    Another one bites the dust.

  18. Stef says:

Okay, so, I don’t mean this in a mean way – but the daughter with the glasses reminds me of the minions from Despicable Me….the little yellow things with the big glasses?

  19. francesca says:

Was anyone else appalled/outraged at her $1,000 wedding dress? While the babies are on medical cards??

  20. Hakura says:

@Melinda“No one seems to have answers. It seems to be really hard on her and Corey and they were trying to be there for each other. I guess it isn’t shocking that they broke up, but it’s pretty sad.”

Sadly, even couples in a stable relationship (with family to aid them) have a high percentage of breaking up because of the medical stress. So it’s no surprise at all that two kids who weren’t even ready for the ‘average healthy child’ would struggle to raise one with special needs.

I don’t care for these shows *at all*, but if even one kid sees this & uses a condom as a result, then it’s worth it.

  21. jc126 says:

#20, I’d like to think that, but I fear it’s more likely that dumb kids watch this and TRY to get pregnant to get on TV. The tabs glamorize these girls.

  22. bluhare says:

#1: I think it was Maci who got the implants.

  23. DesertRose says:

lmao at the ‘certified water distribution’. I believe that means he drives a water truck, filling up pools and water tanks for people who have had their wells run dry. Big important name for ‘truck driver’.

  24. Iggles says:

Noooo! I was hoping that the rumors weren’t true. They need to make it work for the kids. Ugh!

  25. Anastasia says:

Awwww, they were by far my favorites on Teen Mom 2. I really thought they would last longer than six months! I mean, I knew the chances were good they wouldn’t be married more than a few to several years, but six damn months??? That’s not even a marriage. I have underwear older than that.

  26. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

I really was rooting for this couple. The stress of having twin babies…and one of them with some sort of health problem (I’m not sure what to call it since it could be anything)…wow. Like someone mentioned earlier, it’s hard enough on people in stable relationships.

I just feel a little sad for them.

  27. TQB says:

@Kayleigh, I think “doesn’t punch people in the face” DOES qualify one to be the good girl by TM2 standards.

  28. Tammi says:

I was really hoping these two would pull through but I see not. It kind of makes me think that Leah got married just for tv and exposure.

  29. Hakura says:

@JC126“#20, I’d like to think that, but I fear it’s more likely that dumb kids watch this and TRY to get pregnant to get on TV. The tabs glamorize these girls.”

Unfortunately, you’re guess is way more likely than mine.

I always think it’s a bad idea for kids to get married (especially in regards to an unexpected pregnancy.) No use making life even harder than it already will be, committing to a marriage they’re not ready for.

  30. Bunnywabba says:

I dunno what the hell they were thinking. Even established happy couples buckle under the strain of having a baby. They have two and they are so young. I think she puts up a facade on the show. She has cheated on him a lot and that is probably what did them in.

  31. annoyed_w_ignorance says:

@15, @23 :: what do you expect if the guy doesnt have a college degree and is only 20? you expect him to be a CEO of a company? he should be commended for having a job, he’s not sitting at home, collecting welfare. why would you rip on someone’s job, because its not up to your standards?

  32. Naye in VA says:

Technically the only “bad” girl was Jenelle. Essentially they are all just misguided.
    Leah seemed the “happiest”
Kayleigh wasnt bad she just acted like a bama by sneaking around with her new guy, and Chelsea is just stupid, like really stupid.
She’s the one who makes me mad runnin around after her bf who its clear to everyone doesnt really want her, he doesnt help with the baby and he’s living in her fathers rented apartment with her, mind you not paying a bill and not liking her father (mutually) and not helping her finish school. Ahh ive reached my point. WHY doesnt she have a highschool degree yet???? dumb girl. Even Jenelle got her degree

  33. Amanda G says:

Just wondering, but does MTV pay these girls to be on the show? I would hope MTV would do something thoughtful and put aside money for the KIDS, but that probably isn’t happening, right?

  34. Zelda says:

    @ heb #3

    Yes. So agree.

I believe “Sick of trying and would rather just find someone new” is the most popular reason for divorce.

  35. Abby says:

@Francesca (#19) I’ve never been married, but I think a $1000 wedding dress might be somewhat cheap. It seems like wedding dresses might be more expensive than that. I don’t know, never been married. Maybe her dress was bought by MTV or a family member?

  36. Very beneficial blog, thank you so much for making the posts

  37. louise says:

Leah is shallow and superficial. Poor little baby with obvious disibilities. As someone else mentioned, all these teen moms claim to be poor and struggling, yet 1000 dollar wedding dress, expensive makeovers, trips and vacations that most two-parent working families cannot afford. These girls are glamorized, appearing of magazine covers nationwide. What life would Leah have had, had mtv not come along with their large paychecks.

  38. Thank you for every other informative web site. Where else may just I am getting that type of information written in such a perfect way? I have a challenge that I am simply now working on, and I have been on the look out for such information.

  39. It’s perfect time to make some plans for the longer term and it’s time to be happy. I have read this submit and if I may I want to suggest you few attention-grabbing things or advice. Maybe you could write next articles referring to this article. I wish to read more things approximately it!

  40. brady says:

Does neone know where the adorable rainbow hoodie Leah’s wearing in a recent episode is from? The episode where janelle moves out and is strung out lol . Thanks if neone knows!
