Whitney Houston went to rehab for a crack addiction, shock

I guess this shouldn’t be surprising, but it’s still sad. We heard late yesterday that Whitney Houston had “voluntarily” checked into outpatient rehab again for a problem that her people first tried to spin as some vague non-addiction detox issue. Then they claimed that it was “drugs and alcohol” without specifying which drugs Whitney was on. According to Radar, Whitney is back on crack. We know how badly that usually goes for her, and how she wrecked her voice before she cleaned up and launched a kind of weak comeback.

This brings me back to her appearance on Oprah a couple of years ago when she seemed to be in denial about the extent of her drug problems and acted like everything was fine. It also reminds me that the National Enquirer has been running stories since last year about how Whitney is back on crack and how her people were trying to convince her to go back to rehab. It finally worked, but she’s in outpatient rehab and we know how well that’s been working for Brooke Mueller’s crack addiction.

Here’s more, from Radar:

Singer Whitney Houston was using crack again when she went back to rehab, RadarOnline had learned, and her use of the highly-addictive drug terrified even ex-husband Bobby Brown!

A source close to R&B star Brown said he is so worried about his ex-wife that he fears “she might not pull through.”

“Whitney is doing crack again,” the source said about the 47-year-old Houston, the singer of top 1990s hits like I’ll Always Love You. “It’s the worst it’s ever been. Whitney went on tour again, and that’s when the relapse occurred.”

Brown, 42, has also told friends that Houston, 47, has increasingly isolated herself.

“Whitney’s shutting a lot of people out of her life,” the source said. “It is a dire situation.”

Bobby and Whitney were married for 14 years and were officially divorced in 2007. Both have a history of substance abuse. Their 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, was recently caught on camera snorting lines of cocaine.

[From Radar]

This is longterm addiction that derailed her career and has basically ruined her life. Now her kids are having very serious issues with drugs and the law and she’s out of commission and unable to parent. At least she’s getting help, but it seems like too little too late with Whitney.

Wow. All I can focus on is the cellulite pictures.

I suddenly feel better about myself.

Sad…this is sad all the way around—especially for the kids. They’ve never known what a normal life was/is. I hope they can all get help and get better but I’m not optimistic. Whitney’s been cracked–out for all these years and she still hasn’t gotten her sh!t together.

  3. KimnotKardashian says:

I guess someone finally showed her the receipts.

  4. the original bellaluna says:

And where are her children? Is Bobbi Kristina in rehab with her mom?

  5. Just U says:

She has it bad, and probably always will. I’m not at all shocked by this. She loves it and ,sadly, that is the real addicts problem.
But since when does Whitney have more than one kid?? It says “her kids” and I recently read somewhere that Bobbi Kristina and Whitney’s son were in trouble with the law for drugs and firearms offences…. is this true??

This woman gets no pity from me today – she had it all – looks, talent and money. Then she met Bobby Brown and the down hill slide began – however, she could have stopped it if she wanted to. She did not. She is where she is by choice. (Guess I am in a cranky mood today! ha ha )

    • Cathleen says:

Addiction is not a choice, nor the ability or inability to deal with success or failure. It is a disease, just like diabetes or heart disease. You need to get educated about addiction and stop judging others.

  7. LunaT says:

I hope she can kick it. This is just sad, especially b/c she has a kid.

Yeah, wha? on her having more than one kid.

  8. lucy2 says:

Very sad. Such a waste of an amazingly talented life.

  9. Catherine says:

I hope this time the treatment works and she can peacefully get on with her life. Talk about circling the drain.

    junkie bitch!

    • Cathleen says:

Cocaine is not heroin (junk)…. and being an addict does not make one a “bitch”… comments like yours do, however.

  14. Peachy says:

LOL on the celebrity cellulite! Do people really buy these mags to see that??? Not a flattering cover for Whitney, havin her bloated face by a big old cottage cheese butt!

  15. sandy says:

i hope she pulls it together, any one in this situation it would be sad, especially for their loved ones, so i hope for the best.

  16. filthycute says:

I’m pretty sure Bobby Brown didn’t use the word DIRE. The man is an idiot.

  17. fabgrrl says:

Totally off topic, but Bobby Brown is only 42? Really? I thought he had a 25 year old kid! And I remember when they married Whitney was only one year older than Bobby. Strange.

  18. Onyx XV says:

She really seems like a hopeless case, doesn’t she? And it’s such a shame. I wonder what she thinks outpatient rehab is going to do for her.

(Not that it’s consistently reliable, but) Wikipedia states that Bobby Brown is 42 with 5 children (busy boy!), and Whitney Houston is 47 and Bobbi Kristina is her only child. So Radar has the ages right. I didn’t realize they had an age gap, either. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I prefer younger men myself, lol.

  19. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

She said CRACK IS WHACK! Come on Whitney…seriously? Crack…? I thought it’d be cocaine.

  20. Hakura says:

@Really – I’m with LunaT, you have the compassion & understanding of a saint…. Idiot.

The thing I find most sad about this… Whitney has made bad choices for herself for quite some time. And if that’s what she wants to do with her life, so be it.

But it’s not just about her anymore, & it hasn’t been for quite some time. Her children are a reflection of that. I’m not trying to say Bobbi is an invalid who doesn’t know right from wrong, or can’t make her own decisions. But when you grow up around drugs, with your own parents using (in this case constantly)… Seeing it so often removes the ‘shock’ & ‘that’s wrong!’ value that may have prevented an ordinary kid from trying it.

I hate to think this way, but as fucked up as Whitney/Bobby are/have been… I could even see them *giving* their kids a blunt or a line of coke… Maybe while high, or maybe thinking it’s just a little & won’t be a big deal. And yet these people were given the priviledge of adopting a child?

It’s so sad what has become of her life, career and voice. She had it all and lost it because of a stupid drug (and man).

  22. tornado says:
