Amy Winehouse already back in the hospital; seems to be getting better

Amy Winehouse left the hospital on Friday looking much, much healthier than usual. However she’s already back. It’s unclear whether that’s because her health is still up in the air or because she’s being diligent and actually trying to get better – People claims it’s just because she’s in “ongoing treatment.”

After a weekend at home, Amy Winehouse has returned to the hospital for ongoing treatment. The 25-year-old singer, whose well-documented substance abuse has triggered a string of medical interventions, spent the past week being treated at the London Clinic. She left the hospital on Friday, but checked back in Monday.

“She had a chest infection [last week] and underwent some tests to make sure nothing else was wrong,” a source tells PEOPLE. (Earlier this year, doctors diagnosed the Grammy-award-winning chanteuse with scarring of the lungs.)

Is Winehouse finally committed to getting healthy? “She has been told to give up smoking and was initially struggling with that – she was covered in nicotine patches at one point,” says the source. “But she is making an effort.” The notoriously skinny singer was photographed looking somewhat fuller in the face last weekend – a healthier look that won praise from two British tabloids.

Winehouse’s London rep said that she’s been working on her next album from her home and has even been learning how to play the drums. I’m sure her neighbors love that. According to The Sun, Amy cancelled her Halloween gig, but probably not out of her usual drug-induced haze. She released a statement that made it sound like she’s working on staying away from temptation and getting better.

AMY WINEHOUSE is determined to kick her drug and booze addictions once and for all – telling fans “I’m getting better”. So much so, she even missed the chance to party with pals at a debauched Halloween bash. Junkie Amy was on board to DJ at the A Plague On Both Your Houses event in London but pulled out in a bid to steer clear of temptation.

She apologised for her no-show, hinting that she’s well and truly on the path to recovery.

In a statement, she said: “This goes out from beyond the grave. I’m getting better so I’m not undead, but you guys enjoy the afterlife.”

Well that was a little dark and Halloween-y, but appropriate nonetheless. Amy’s friends are worried her health has deteriorated so severely that her career is over. Her frequent chest issues are obviously a really serious problem since she needs strong lungs to record and perform.

Friends fear the singer, who was hospitalized last weekend with a chest infection, has damaged her voice through partying and may never record another album.

Record bosses allegedly claim work on the follow-up to her award-winning “Back to Black” album is “going slower than hoped” because of her health problems.

However a spokesperson for the star insisted there was no need to worry. “Amy isn’t on a deadline with her album,” he said. “She’s in and out of the studio working. Amy’s fine.”

[From Fox News]

Amy’s number one priority should be getting better, and the career stuff should come after that. Though certainly they’re intertwined. It seems like she realizes how far she’s fallen and just how lucky she is to still be alive. Considering how much better she looked in photos last week, it seems like she must be doing something right. There’s been speculation that she’s at the London Clinic not due to chest issues but for rehab. It could be both. It seems like Amy has an appreciation for what she needs to do to get better, and now she’s actually starting to do it.

Here’s Amy returning home on September 25th after performing at the End of Summer Ball. Header of Amy on Friday in London. That’s a pretty dramatic difference. Images thanks to Bauer-Griffin.

Her shoes are clean, thats a good sign.

I really hope my little crackie is getting better. Halloween is a high holiday for degenerates (like myself) so I’m very surprised/proud that she opted to stay in for the night. Very good sign.

I am concerned about her motivations, though. Getting sober for the sake of a few gigs/record deal is short-sided. Maintaining a semblance of sobriety in the interim before the succubus Blake is released (so that they can get properly loaded) is dangerous.

She has some heavy-handed demons, and getting stable and healthy won’t be easy. Regardless of her motivations, I hope that she ultimately realizes her self worth and continues the fight on her own behalf. /Oprah

I could have gone my whole life without seeing that angle of Amy.

    Pull.up.yo’.pants.

She already looks like she’s put on a bit of weight. Her face looks MUCH better. Remember it was the right side of her face that had that horrible black-scabbed sore on it and it seems to be gone. I gauge her health and well-being by her ability to eyeline and it’s back!

  5. susan says:

that swollen face looks like steroid bloat to me, not health.

  6. Anoneemouse says:

GOD! She looks pregnant! Please tell me that it’s just a bad camera angle. Can you imagine???

  7. Diva says:

Bloat from meds aside, her skin looks amazing, is THAT a side effect of prednisone?

    Team Amy!

People keep talking about how much candy and sweets are in her house. That might be a good sign because I’ve heard and read that addicts CRAVE sweets. It something about the sugar that is in alcohol or how the body breaks down drugs…I’m not educated enough in the subject. But maybe, just maybe, she is kicking stuff and indulging her sweet tooth. Whatever needs to be done to get that girl on some semblance of the right track.

I definitely prefer her ‘Rosie the Riveter’ look to the beehive.

Its a side effect of Rimmel concealer and mineral foundation, Diva. Look at the other pics, she looks as strung out and sick as usual.

Wouldn’t ya just love to see Amy go the makeover

  12. Diva says:

Those other pics are from before this little hospital stay.

Although, it seems a pretty miraculous difference for 5 days.

  13. WTF?!?! says:

Anoneemous, I was thinking the EXACT same thing!!!!

And, diva, she has a ton of make-up on, her flesh is filled out, but her skin looks dreadful. Detoxing causes breakouts. Give her a week, she’ll look even better.

I hope so. I LOVE this girl. Bitch can sing!

  14. aleach says:

i really want to see her all better! she DOES look much better for some reason, i know she cant be well yet though, its only been a few days that she was in the hospital. i doubt she gained weight that quickly.
cmon amy, you can do it! 🙂

  15. nag says:

I noticed her belly too.. could it be swollen from being malnourished? Or could it be the beginning of ascities?

  16. geronimo says:

Team Amy. Only blot on the horizon is Blake Unincarcarated as of sometime in Dec. If he was out of the equation, I’d be throwing a ‘welcome back from the dead, Amy’ party.

  17. aspen says:

The distended belly is common in someone so emaciated who has resumed eating normally.

I suspect, if I’m being optimistic, that the swollen face is the result of badly-needed reconstructive dental work than something like steroids.

She’ll look like hell in a bad weave for a long time if she’s actually getting the help she needs.

    And…I hope she is.

  18. Jeanne says:

Oh sure, she’s the walking picture of health. Check back with her in a few weeks and see how she looks.
