Hilary Duff finally gave birth on Tuesday, to baby boy Luca Cruz Comrie

Poor Hilary Duff! Hilary’s pregnancy situation was a lot like Jessica Simpson’s – both women announced their pregnancies early because both began showing very early. As a result, it feels like Jessica has been knocked up for more than a year, and Hilary… well, maybe even longer. But Hilary finally gave birth on Tuesday! Huzzah. Hilary and her husband Mike Comrie welcomed a baby boy, whom they named Luca Cruz Comrie.

Hilary Duff is a mom! The actress and her husband Mike Comrie welcomed a son on Tuesday, March 20, Duff Tweets.

“Welcome to the World Luca Cruz Comrie! Tuesday evening, we became proud parents of a healthy 7 pound 6 ounce beautiful boy,” she writes.

“We are overjoyed and feel like the luckiest parents in the world,” she continues. “He is surrounded by so much love!! Mom and baby are both doing extremely well.”

Duff, 24, announced in August that she was expecting her first child, saying that she and Comrie were “ready to start this new chapter in our lives.” And she described the experience of being pregnant as “kind of like a little alien has taken over your body. You just don’t quite feel normal.” Nevertheless, she said her pregnancy was “super easy.”

In November, Duff flaunted her growing belly on the red carpet, where she said she’d decided to forego loose fitting outfits and to show off her changing figure. “I’m kind of like, ‘Well, it’s there, and everyone knows it’s there,’ so I think it looks better to wear tighter clothes.”

Over Christmas, the star even embellished her bare belly with a picture of a gift and wished fans happy holidays “from the three of us.”

Duff and Comrie – who got married on August 10, 2010 – can now look forward to many happy holidays as a family.

Thoughts on the name? I don’t hate it. I don’t love it either. I feel like there are so many variations on “Luke” and “Lucas” these days. Luca is fine, Luca Cruz sounds… I don’t know. Odd somehow, but also like I might already know someone with that name already? In any case, congratulations to the happy family and I’m happy that Hilary had a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. Yay!

Ugh, now I have that song stuck in my head.

    • Ellie says:

Luca by Brand New? But that’s a great song!

Edit: Nope, now that I’ve read more comments I see there’s another Luca song that apparently I’ve never heard. Sorry for the confusion!

      • ol cranky says:

the other song is Luka by Suzanne Vega. It’s from the 80’s and about a kid who was abused

      • Samigirl says:

I’ve got a huge crush on Jesse Lacey….so I thought Brand New too.

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Place your bets: how long until she has a girl named Melody who will dance her way right into our hearts?

  2. brin says:

Yay! Congrats to Hilary & Mike!!! I love the name!

  3. gee says:

    Love her! Yay babiesss

  4. Aiobhan says:

I don’t really get the name but congratulations to the happy family.

Is it just me or does Mike in the last photo look like on of those Jersey Shore guys in the last photo. The one who was always fighting with his girlfriend. I am too lazy to look up any of those losers names. Sorry.

  5. Katie says:

That name doesn’t make sense for a straight up white couple! LOL! I’m not into Luca, makes me think of that song “My name is Luca, I live on the second floor…”

    Congrats to Hillary, though!

    • lisa says:

LOL.. I was just singing that song in my head before clicking to read the write up..

Funny how people have the same thoughts..

    • gee says:

Luca is a name of Latin and Greek origin, and Cruz is Spanish, meaning cross. Maybe it’s significant to them. It’s a bit much to assert people shouldn’t use names because the color of their skin.

      • WillyNilly says:

        Word.

      • Tapioca says:

To be fair she said it “didn’t make sense [to her]”, not that they shouldn’t do so.

Sometimes you do meet people of one nationality who have a name strongly associated with another, and it’s just interesting to find out where people get their influences from, that’s all. Although he’s a Canadian hockey player, so I was expecting “Wayne Douglas [Gretzky]”!

A “Luca Comrie” sounds like a good-value compact car.

  6. LeManda says:

    Congratulations!!!
    Yeah for a normal name!!!!!

  7. Jackie says:

isn’t luca the name of the hitman in the godfather movie. it just makes me think of an big, not so bright, mob thug.

    • Zelda says:

      My first thought too!

“Luca Brazzi sleeps with the fishes.”

      Don’t dislike the name, though.

    • RocketMerry says:

Luca is a VERY popular Italian name. About one third of the male population I met in my life has that name; not the best name ever as it sounds a bit dry (with the Italian pronunciation), to me. It’s not a good name for yelling after or calling up, either, so it never really made a wonderful impression on me.
Anywoo, maybe it does sound better with an American pronunciation.

  8. tripmom says:

Luca sounds like a girls’ name to me, but what do I know? My daughter’s middle name is James.

    • jc126 says:

It does to me too. I don’t think it sounds great with the last name Comrie. Luca Comrie. Yuck. And the Cruz thing doesn’t fit, although it could be a family name for one of them.

Wait a sec – I keep thinking some celeb named their daughter Luca Bella. Don’t know who.

      • Gattis says:

        Jennie Garth and Peter Falcinelli.
Luca is a male name, also is the last vocal is an a.
In Italy also Andrea is a male name, an exclusively male male name (it means “male” in greek).

  9. dahlianoir says:

Congratulations ! I saw all her movies on the disney channel as a kid,I really like her. The name is nice, it fits with the family name.

  10. Franny says:

Hilary is like 10 days older than me, so its so strange to see her married and pregnant! I suppose we’re at that age though now…

  11. RuddyZooKeeper says:

Holy crap, her ring is huge! Never noticed it before.

They look so normal. That and the fact that we don’t hear about any bizarre exploits is refreshing. Congrats and good luck!

    • Happymom says:

Lainey Gossip had a blind that she pretty much revealed as them: he cheats. But he was a pro-sports guy, so duh.

      • Blue says:

That’s messed up, because Lainey works/worked with Leah Miller who is Hilary’s BFF and was a bridesmaid at their wedding. I think most people think athletes cheat though so maybe that’s why.

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

She is, and she never clams up about it. She’s married to Dallas Green and he’s pretty righteous, so maybe she’s not as vapid and ditzy as she…is. I’ll give her a pity ‘hm’ because she suffers from frequent night terrors.

    • Devon says:

Her ring is something crazy like 14 carats and cost a million bucks. Mike’s family owns The Brick furniture chain so he’s not hurting for cash.

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

He’s definitely hurting for quality furniture, though. Enjoy your Pressboard Xanadu.

  12. Me says:

Luca is a traditional Italian name for a boy. Hence the c instead of a k.

And Im with her, when pregnant wear tight clothing. I always do.

  13. lilred says:

It’s certainly not the worst name for a celeb child that I have ever heard.

  14. Fyofeelings says:

Congrats Hilary she’s doing much better than the other former disney stars the cokehead, the crackhead, the pothead.

  15. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Yay! So excited for her. Glad it all went well. Cant wait to see her/them out and about with baby Luca in tow.

  16. biteme says:

I love the name i think its super cute!

  17. Zelda says:

I’m aware of an awful amount of awkward alliteration.

  18. Jenna says:

I like the name! I’ve known a few foreign Luca’s, though when I first heard the name I thought of Luka from E.R. Lol. I don’t get the Cruz though…

  19. Leikyn says:

    My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
    I live upstairs from you
Yes I think you’ve seen me before

    Thank you, Suzane Vega.

  20. Posh Spice Fan says:

The Beckham’s son name is Cruz. That’s why it sounds familiar to you! Greetings from Macedonia! Love your site! Keep up the great work!

  21. Shannon says:

I like the name Luca. It’s not totally out there, but it’s not all that common. Good choice.

  22. Isa says:

There’s too many C’s. I like the first and middle name, but then you add the last name and I don’t think it flows well.

  23. Roja says:

Love the name, as it is my five-year-old son’s name. Having said that, my husband is Italian with an Italian 1st and last name. I was pregnant during the World Cup and stole the name from an Italian soccer player! Just surprised that they chose this. Plus, I like to think my Luca is the only one around ; )

  24. Wren says:

My 5 year old son is Luca too, Roja! We visited Croatia and heard the name. He is the only Luca around too – though his best friend is Luke!!!

    • Roja says:

What a coincidence!? Great minds think alike! Love their unique, yet not made-up, name!

  25. P says:

It seems they’ve been pregnant forever because of Beyonce’s fake pregnancy.

  26. Kayla says:

@ P do u really have to bring up Beyoncé it would be nice to read about other pregnant people without having to compare them to her

  27. Chris says:

Mike looks like he stacked on the weight in sympathy with Hilary. I did the same thing when my wife had our first son.

  28. Jane says:

I adored her growing up, like I was actually obsessed. Now that’s she has had a baby, I feel so incredibly old. She was just Lizzie McGuire asking her mom for a bra and jet setting off to Rome yesterday, right? I feel like crying.

But! I am so happy for her. Well wishes.

    • Aqua says:

She’s always been one of my favorite celebs. My kids and I loved watching Lizzy McGuire when they were little. They even had to have some of the Lizzy McGuire clothes when they first came out.As for the movie we still have it.It was a must have on someones Christmas list and even though they don’t watch it any more (too old for it).to this day we still can’t part with it.

  29. lrm says:

our friends are brasilian, and their son is luca, too. it’s definitely a male name, in my experience.
    It’s a perfectly fine name.
Common in some countries, but a regular ole’ name….which is refreshing.

love lizzie mcguire; that and raven=great disney shows!!!!
