Adam Brody jokingly claims that he got Brad & Angelina together on ‘MAMS’

Adam Brody is still a thing. I don’t mean to be cruel about it, but I’m kind of surprised he’s still a thing. He was on The O.C. and then he got some smaller, supporting parts in movies and then… nothing. Actors like Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield stole his career. All of these fast-talking, boyish, late 20s actors, all competing for the same roles… at the end of the day, I would prefer if Adam got the parts ahead of Justin Timberlake, but what are you going to do? But Adam has a new movie called Damsels in Distress, by writer-director Whit Stillman, who did a criminally under-valued film, The Last Days of Disco. Stillman is like a nouveau Woody Allen, all dialogue-heavy and neurotic. Adam Brody should excel in a Whit Stillman film.

So to promote his new movie, Adam did what so many have done before – he name-dropped Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. You see, Adam had a small part in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. So he used that experience as a headline-grabbing punch line, of course. Well played, Adam. Some highlights from Adam’s HuffPo interview:

Working with Whit Stillman: “I just love Whit Stillman, so it was a no brainer for me… I would have murdered people.” Thankfully, homicide wasn’t necessary for Brody to secure the role of Fred Packenstacker, a “playboy operator” who slowly wins over Violet (Greta Gerwig) and her friends at a prestigious East Coast college. “Damsels” is Stillman’s first film since “The Last Days of Disco” in 1998, meaning the man affectionately called the “WASP Woody Allen” has been away from the big screen for 14 years.

Damsels in Distress: “The truth is, it was such low budget movie and we were so under the gun the whole time, that you were kind of left to your own devices a little bit,” he said when asked about Stillman’s style on set. “At that point, I was so flattered that he trusted me. What I liked most was his approval. I just trust his judgment so much that if I did something and he liked it, I was profoundly happy with myself. The wisdom I gleaned from him was actually from the script.”

Being picky, but not really: “I don’t turn down that much,” Brody allowed. “Here’s what I’d say: Personally, I’m incredibly picky. I’m incredibly opinionated and I don’t like much. But, as a professional actor, I’m very pragmatic. I’m definitely willing to do things that I don’t personally like or certainly love. But I understand the benefits, business-wise. And I like to go to work and I don’t always have to be in love with what I’m doing. Those are two different theories, and so I would say as an actor I’m not all that picky. As a consumer, I certainly am.”

Does that mean he’s making movies he wouldn’t want to see? “[I]t’s funny,” he said. “I have been practical, but when I do look at my resume it does reflect my taste. Some I like more than others, but it does, by and large, reflect my taste, more than I think it would. [Especially] given how many things I’ve been willing to do that I don’t personally care for.”

He admits he has to fight for the big parts: “They don’t make a lot of good movies,” he said. “I don’t even think because of any bad formulaic problem or some studio system necessarily. That’s part of it, but it’s very hard to write something good. It truly is. So they’re few and far between, and everyone is smart and wants to do those things. So it’s competitive. You just get lucky and something smart comes along that you’re right for.”

On Mr. and Mrs. Smith: “In terms [Brad and Angelina], I hooked them up,” he deadpanned. “I was like, ‘Brad, you don’t want to do this, man. This Jen thing, I don’t see it.’ And he heeded my advice, and I’m happy for him.”

[From HuffPo]

I know I shilled this as an uncool Bermuda Triangle story, but I ended up much more interested in Adam’s quotes about Hollywood. He seems oddly… Zen about the whole thing. I like the way he reconciles – intellectually – taking any project that he can get, and I like that he’s kind of a snobby bitch about it. So I had to look up his IMDB – he’s been working consistently since The O.C., just not on many big projects. He does a lot of smaller budget stuff, so maybe he’s trying to become, like, the dude version of Chloe Sevigny? Eh, there are worse things.

Seems like a nice young man with a good head on his shoulders.

    • Liv says:

He said something like “Then just quit the job.” when Kristen Stewart complained about being stalked by paparazzi and fans. I found that very refreshing.

    Beware of the Jenhens Adam.

  3. Eve says:

Next Vogue cover featuring Aniston: “What Adam Brody did was uncool”.

    Adam, you in danger boy.

    • truthSF says:

      Hahaha @Eve.

And that quote alone is why Ghost is one the best movies of all times!!

    • mln76 says:

      I’d say he’s ‘missing a sensitivity chip’ 🙂

      • Camille (The original) says:

        🙂 heehee.

Loved the quote lol and I’ve always liked Adam Brody, he’s a cutie and can deliver those sarcastic witty one liners like no one else in his acting generation. I wish he was in more movies.

    Well OK

    THANKS ADAM.. 🙂

  7. Maya says:

He’s cute. And I love that still from MAMS of Brad and Angelina dancing – even just from that one picture, you can see how hot their chemistry was in the movie.

  8. sup says:

uh oh… team jeniston will rip him to shreds…
and i still don’t get why he’s relevant. if he is relevant, that is.

  9. Maritza says:

This is just going to stir the Brangelina/Jen triangle all over again. I don’t see why he had to mention them at all.

    • Never a Triangle says:

There never was a “triangle” between Aniston, Jolie & Pitt. Pitt left Aniston and never went back (despite all the tabloid lies to the contrary). Aniston WAS is a triangle with Vince Vaughn and that college co-ed and with John Mayer and a couple of groupies (also maybe Taylor Swift). Despite this, Mayer & Aniston got back together a couple of times. From what Heidi Bivens’ mother and the photog Terry say, there was also a triangle with Aniston, Bieven & Justin T.

      • Freya says:

I agree! When he got together with Angie, he already left the marriage, so there never was a triangle!

  10. Talie says:

Wow, B&A looked really hot at the MAMS premier…those kids sucked the life out of them!

  11. sup says:

cue his apology with “i didn’t really mean it that way…” statement in the next few days. i expect after an uproar from rabid jenhens.

  12. Gene Parmesan says:

Justin is in fact stealing all these young actor roles. He needs to make an album. His appeal has dropped the past few years, with his douche behaviors and i cant take him seriously in roles like FWB i was watching the ‘my love’ video a few days ago and i was likde damn… Justin make an ablum you are good at that.

  13. vaylont says:

Just the other day I asked a friend you know who I would like to see have a career again? and she jumped in: SETH COHEN! The fact that we refuse to forget about him after all these years shows that he’s meant to be around. Just look at his puppy face.
By the way JT could never fill his sarcastic, self deprecating shoes and Garfield just doesn’t seem to have his humor.

  14. valleymiss says:

The first 2 seasons of The OC were like television heroin to me. I loved that show so much and was totally addicted. Seth Cohen, now and forever! Chrismukkah!

    • dahlia1947 says:

OMG Thank you! I feel the same way! I loved loved that show! He was sooo adorable! He was like the sexy nerd with his comic books and stuff! I fell hard for him then! He was just soo funny! He was a pro with his lines, everything!

I cannot picture Timberlake, or Pattinson, or any of these young actors delivering lines like he did on that show!

      I love you Seth Cohen!

    • valleymiss says:

Lol I’m not the only one! I remember getting a ticket for rolling through a stop sign about a half mile from my house because The OC was starting in 5 minutes and I needed to get home!

I hold out hope that Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson will get back together the same way I hope Justin and Britney get back together. Lol I know, I know…

  15. jamie says:

Yep,I’d take Adam Brody over Timberlake any day. Actually. I’d take Adam Brody pics over Brad and Angelina pics any day as well.

  16. Nan209 says:

I do not recall this dude. I’ve seen stuff he is in, don’t remember him but in the last week I’ve seen several articles about him. So I’m guessing in a while I’ll see him everywhere.

This happened to me with Zac Efron. I saw his name on the cover of mags and heard his name mentioned all the time – had no clue he was.

    I’m officially getting to old.

  17. Nikole says:

It warms my heart that you are a fan of Whit Stillman 🙂

  18. lucy2 says:

I kind of like him. Remember when he was Lane’s boyfriend on Gilmore Girls?

I’d rather see him get roles than Timberlake too, who I think has ZERO appeal as an actor on anything but SNL.

  19. Isa says:

I have always liked him. I didn’t even watch the O.C. I just think he’s adorable and love his fast talking.
I like Vince Vaughn’s fasst talking too.

  20. Mrs.Darcy says:

I seriously have been re-crushing on him again lately. Having seen Jennifer’s Body last week for the first time, he was the best thing in it, his lines were all perfection. I am super psyched to see the Whit Stilman movie, even though the trailer kind of sucked I know his stuff is hard to pin down in a few minutes. I was thinking also of all the actors who have better careers than him who are similiar – I think that Justin Long guy takes up a lot of the nerdy funny guy roles when imo he’s not that funny, just more doofy. Seth Cohen – er Adam Brody, could do those roles in his sleep, and better. He could so be a great Woody Allen character, or Tarantino, but maybe he needs to break out of his mold to get more parts, I dunno. Agree Justin Timberlake is truly charisma free on screen.

  21. dahlia1947 says:

He sounds very aware of how Hollywood works. He’s a smart guy who tries. And he’s about doing “good” movies which is refreshing because alot of actors out there don’t seem to care and they end up being the most famous! WTF?

Yeah, I imagine him in those Timberlake roles and Adam would’ve have been sooo much better!

He’s a cutie and I always fantasized about me knockin’ out Rachel and taking him for myself! 😉

  22. magda says:

I’ve seen ‘Damsels in distress’….soo funny soo fantastic

  23. Brittney says:

I’ve loved Adam since way before the OC (in that weird late 90s show Undressed) and I’ve loved Angie since Hackers (and continue to admire her more than anyone else in Hollywood).

That said, it WAS uncool of him to say this. The joke that he brought them together is perfectly fine, but why did he have to bring Aniston into it (besides making headlines)? She’s going to hate the insult, and they’re going to hate the perpetuation of the homewrecking story.

  24. Laura says:

Wow he’s grown into a HOT man. Someone send him my way!

  25. Laura says:

Also, would it be inappropriate to call that still from MAMS the first official outing of The Leg?! 😉
