Russell Brand on ex-wife Katy Perry: “I just have only love and positivity for her”

Russell Brand

Russell Brand appears on Thursday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (presumably to promote his role in Rock of Ages), and naturally, the subject of his divorce from Katy Perry came up in conversation. If you’ll recall, Russell lied through his substantially sized teeth about being very happily married to Katy when he appeared on Ellen’s show in early December. I always wonder how Ellen feels when she knows celebrities are brazenly making sh-t up on her show, but I guess that’s just part of interviewing the so-called upper crust. Ellen isn’t being paid to dig out the truth of the matter; it’s her job to interview celebrities in an entertaining matter, and she usually succeeds. Here’s what Russell had to say about the demise of his marriage. (video clip below):

On Ellen’s question about the “big change”: “All right thank you. Because me and Katy got divorced. I still, love her as a human being. But, sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything. I was very happy to be married with her. She’s such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her. You can’t absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life. Sometimes thing are just different and then you to just move with that and try and remain in contact with what is beautiful about yourself and each other with any situation. That is still a person I still consider to be beautiful and I have nothing but positivity for her.”

[From “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”]

So does Russell really hold fond memories of his time with Katy? Who knows, but at this point in time, I think Russell is sort of in love with the entire world. It still bothers me whenever celebrities put on a “kumbaya” act about how wonderful their marriage was when they obviously had good reason for ending things with the other person, but Russell is such an articulate man, and it’s hard not to fall under his spell.

In related news, the media went into some strange frenzy last week because Russell finally unfollowed Katy on Twitter. We didn’t cover it because who cares? The guy had already filed for divorce, so the fact that he clicked the “unfollow” button on Twitter matters, well, not at all. It’s strange that people were paying attention to who he follows anyway. So weird.

Here’s a cute little diversion as well from “Ellen” — where Russell meets Sophia Grace and Rosie, the 8-year-old and 5-year-old UK singing sensations who appear quite often on Ellen’s show. He’s so charming to them and makes a cute joke about them all escaping from Essex:

Russell’s really great with kids, isn’t he? Maybe he’ll have some of his own someday if and when he really settles down. Finally, here’s some assorted Russell scarf pr0n because, quite frankly, I’ve been really missing it and can’t help myself.

He’s been a lot more mature about his divorce than his ex wife has. I like him, actually.

    • susan says:

i’m kindof in love with him—-weird right?

    • Leigh says:

      Agree. He’s kind of fantastic.

      • sharylmj says:

yes, I love this guy… he is so fascinating, his command of the English language is brilliant 🙂

    • Jenna says:

+1 It’s weird, but yeah.. I kinda have a small thing for him as well. It’s the fact that he is such a wonderful dichotomy walking. He looks every inch the wild drug loving hipster maniac – and then he opens his mouth and exposes just how articulate and creatively intelligent and well rounded he is. He is the thing that always gets my knickers in a tizzy : the intelligent badboy trying to do the right thing without changing who he fundamentally is. (I obviously have a weak spot for folks like that – my husband snagged me with the same personality)

  2. Eve says:

Ok, now I officially love him.

@ Bluhare (above): exactly — a way more mature than her AND her family/friends.

    • bluhare says:

I just watched the video. He is great. Hate crime against Essex!!!

    • RocketMerry says:

He comes off much classier than Perry, for sure.

Aww, I missed his scarves (and his suggestively “thin fabric in the crotch area” yoga pants 😀 )

  3. Bite me aka aniston says:

Bless him he was to good for that twit

  4. Ainsley says:

Good for him for being mature about it–unlike the desperate ex. I don’t watch Ellen because I’m at work when it’s on but it seems like she has these two girls on all the time…Are they a regular part of the show now or what?

  5. Monkey Jim says:

He IS articulate, charismatic and has beaten some massive demons (hopefully) so I do think he’s a good soul despite the affectations. I’d imagine Katy will regret letting him go do easily when she was v young & v dumb.

    • gg says:

While he was with her, she sure had him cleaned up though. Shame he went back to being a scuzz.

      • Bette says:

Not really. He was ‘cleaned up’ for a while during their marriage, but mainly because of his role in Arthur, where he was clean shaven and had shorter hair. Arthur was a billionaire playboy who wore snappy suits and such, so Russell adopted that look for a while during the promotion (and obviously during the filming). It wasn’t because of Katy.

      • gg says:

        Oh well, too bad.

  6. Havik says:

If it really is Katy/her PR team putting out all those horrid “Russell wants her back” stories, they ought to be ashamed.

Or maybe I’m biased because I can’t help but find Russell a bit endearing, especially so in this interview (:

  7. nancy xl says:

i like him too and what he believes in. great animal advocate.

  8. Kim says:

He was really sweet and funny with the girls.

  9. Itwillrain says:

Unfollowing her twitter is not meaningless. It Is a purposeful act that required some forethought. It could mean he finds it too painful to see her tweets. It could be that he wants to hurt her or make a public statement that he doesn’t care about her anymore. Whatever the reason, you can be certain he had one.

  10. skuddles says:

That was sweet of him to say… he sure has been good to Katy throughout their split.

    • gg says:

publicly… We have no idea what went on between them for real.

      • skuddles says:

Very true but we do know that he didn’t try to screw her over financially – I recall he just walked away from everything (hence Katy signing the divorce decree with a smiley face).

  11. Kate says:

i’ve kinda always liked him. I get what katy saw in him. he’s really, very charming. i like what he said about her too. that’s the way you would hope an ex would speak of you.

  12. Catlady says:

If I was kid again, would LOVE for Russell Brand to be my dad. He would be all kinds of awesome and if he does have children they will be very, very lucky to have him as their father.

  13. gg says:

Okay that clip of him with the kids is adorable. I love those little girls.

  14. Sweettart says:

    That whole clip was awesome!

  15. Shoe_lover says:

I love Sophia Grace and Rosie so bloody much

  16. Moi says:

Gawd I love him. He handled his divorce with such class and has continued to have class in regards to it all. I love him so much that I don’t even care that he is walking barefoot in the street.

  17. Mare says:

What was he supposed to do, go on tv and talk about problems with his wife? Why would he do that? Of course he lied that everything is fine.
