Olympic gymnast Danell Leyva emails risque pics to randoms: douchey or hot?

Danell Leyva

So who else watched Danell Leyva and the rest of the U.S. men’s gymnastics team last night? They certainly looked good but faltered from a technical standpoint and then failed to medal after qualifying so damn well (first, actually) a few days ago. The gold ended up going to China while Japan and Great Britain took home the silver and bronze medals, and Danell and Co. came in fifth. Some might say that the U.S.’s poor finish was due in great part to Danell’s poor showing on the pommel horse event, but enough of the Olympic talk for now. What’s really important to this story is that, in Kaiser’s words, “That’s the hot Cuban-American gymnast!!!”

Yeah, Kaiser really enjoyed this dude during the prelims, and we have been laughing a little bit over these new photos that have just surfaced of a pre-London Danell working on his online dating skills. There’s no mistaking these lips, right?

Danell Leyva

Here’s a bit of a scroll up that shows these photos are legit, and this definitely is Danell Leyva. The dude is so outed as an internet player now, but what a body, right?

Danell Leyva

So says a woman who came to us this afternoon with an offer to “submit some risque photos of Danell Leyva.” The woman asked for nothing in return. She says she had “some in underwear and some nudes” of the 20-year-old Miami native, some of which have already appeared on the internet. The woman says Leyva had “sorta played” her on a promised photo exchange, and that he’s done this to other women, too.

Before long, the woman sent us the images you see above and below, adding this: “Would it be possible to see how it goes with those pics and then decide to send the nude or not?” To which we responded, “Sure.” Oh, right: Here’s where we ought to tell you NBC plans to air Ryan Seacrest’s interview with Leyva sometime tonight. Maybe he’ll ask about these photos.

HA. Okay, so these photos really aren’t that bad compared to, say, the many unsolicited d*ck shots that I received in my own inbox during a brief adventure with internet dating almost a decade ago. There are indeed some other (more NSFW) photos that feature Danell showing off his bulge, which is nicely encased in white boxer briefs. Not too embarrassing, really. That is, until the source decides to unveil the the nude shots that she claims to have in her possession. Until that happens, this stuff is actually pretty tame, right? I mean, if this guy wasn’t an Olympian (and we all know how much they they want to get laid), this would be fairly normal behavior for a (presumably) single young man. Yes, he’s probably an egotistical douche, but I certainly don’t mind looking at his bod.

Sheesh! I will never undersrand why people send these kinds of pictures of themselves. Tacky.

  2. cmc says:

I don’t see anything wrong with the pics. If that girl sells his nude, though, she’s a jerk. Presumably he sent the nude picture privately to her, right? Poor young people (well, younger than me is “too young” now, ha!), they don’t know who to trust and don’t realize that for the most part, pictures last forever and could come back to haunt you.

    • Goofpuff says:

I agree. The woman is a jerk for selling them but he did nothing wrong and he looks great.

  3. Iggles says:

Ok.. I might be desensitized by all the other internet scandals out there – but let me get this straight:

A young guy, who is UNMARRIED sent photos to WOMEN he was talking to ONLINE.

Where’s the controversy? He’s single, so no one got cheated on. No kids involved. There’s no gay angle to this story, so no one was outed. He sent photos to women he conversed with online, so it’s not like he’s sending d*ck pics unsolicited to folks who weren’t looking for strange in the first place. (They had to exchange emails at some point because you can’t post those types of pictures on an online dating site. People looking to date and not for a hook up don’t exchange more pictures via email. They go out on an actual date!)

Anyway, I’m failing to see what’s so scandalous about this..

    • QQ says:

I suppose that what’s scandalous is that I’m not mounting that child like a Horse at the Kentucky Derby.. a True Shame, plus really with a Body like that? Stay Naked at All Times!

  4. marie says:

meh, he does have a nice body, but I will never understand why folks include their heads in these shots, especially the nude ones. Come on people, don’t be dumb, you know there’s a good chance they’ll wind up on the internet without your permission..

    • beyonce's bump says:

True Marie, and I do not think it is a bad thing in and of itself but I just never get how someone can take a ‘sexy’ pic of themselves like that to send to someone else, maybe I am sure not confident enough, but I will find it very awkward being the sender and/or recipient of such a pic,

  5. cupidityrox! says:

No biggie. Most young people do this.
He doesn’t have to worry though. After the olympics he won’t have to resort to such desperate measures to get a hook-up.

  6. lisa2 says:

Will he be punished by the Olympic committee. He wants sponsors. I know that he is “single” and whatever, but when you want to get paid to endorse products you have to be careful. Especially if certain companies find them inappropriate.

  7. lucy2 says:

I don’t think it’s some big scandal, but if you know you’re going to be in the public eye, just…don’t. Save yourself the embarrassment.

  8. Jen says:

I don’t think this is a problem at all. People do this all the time – it was consensual, he wasn’t hurting anyone, and everybody enjoyed themselves.

I think the girl’s the one acting without any class, here. Selling the pics to a bidder? Tacky.

  9. dahlianoir says:

He’s a douche. Where’s the self respect ? The guy’s an athlete and famous, I don’t think he needs internet to get laid. How old is he ? 14 ? Psssht

    • Jen says:

Most of the athletes I’ve met never have time to meet anybody. They train so hard they can’t exactly go out to bars or parties. That’s why the Olympic Village goes so mental – everybody finally has time off and access to other people.

  10. Jillian says:

    He has lovely lips.

  11. Jayna says:

The bulge isn’t that impressive considering I’m sure he made sure he was hard before snapping the photo. Do guys who send out to women they’ve met online random shots of themselves in their beefcake semi-nude or nude poses realize how the women receiving them are showing their friends and all laughing?

  12. Memory30 says:

U can’t stop looking a this pics he’s so freaking cute and his body is amazing idc if he’s douchey that’s my tipe :/

  13. Mew says:

I’d take any time nice personality and normal body than a douche like this.

  14. Jacq says:

All I see is LOTS of chest stubble. That’s so gross when guys man-scape & don’t keep up with it. Ewww.

  15. Mirella says:

My only problem with this is that the emails weren’t sent to me. 😉

  16. lisa2 says:

there are so many Olympic athletes that have been sent home because of social media. People are just not thinking about what they are doing. Just like employers follow employees on Facebook we are going to get to the point where your tweets are going to be monitored too. And People are naive to think that freedom of speech does not mean you are free from the repercussions of that free speech.

    • GoodCapon says:

But those athletes were sent home (and rightly so, IMO) because of racist tweets.

The woman who sent these photos is the one to blame. Besides, Leyva sent these photos pre-Olympics, I don’t think he should be sanctioned for this. And even if he did this during the Olympics it’s still not as serious a crime compared to that Swiss and Greek players accused of racism. Perhaps he will receive a talking to but that’s it.

  17. Tanya says:

in twenty years, when he has a big gut, he can look back and chuckle. He can say to himself ‘damn I miss my youth’. 😉

  18. Violet says:

He’s being a complete moron. Olympic athletes earn the big bucks through endorsements, and companies look for people with a family-friendly reputation.

Also, this is the digital age — risque photos and videos can easily end up in the wrong hands and once they’re out there, they’re out there forever. That applies to non-celebs, too.

It’s not just trusting that your partner will discreet after you break up, but that they’re careful enough to lock their phone outside of the home in case it gets lost or take their PCs in for repairs without encrypting or removing personal files.

  19. RHONYC says:

his lips are ‘fushcia’…wanna ask that question again? 🙁

  20. Kosmos says:

A public figure should not post anything like this. What are they thinking? Look what politician Weiner did, wow. Anyone in the public eye is taking a huge chance on having their pics become fodder for the internet, hello? This is a perfect example.

    • Gabby says:

Uh, he’s a gymnast who only became a celebrity because he qualified for the Olympics. Not exactly a public figure like Anthony Weiner.

And like someone else said, what’s the problem? He’s 20 years old, trains all the time and probably isn’t allowed to socialize much, so who cares if he flirts online with some chicks? Everyone needs to stop clutching their damn pearls and realize that sex isn’t a crime.
