Tom Cruise’s CO$ wife audition process really happened, reports Vanity Fair

Tom Cruise

Are you ready for another round of Tom Cruise, Ladies’ Man? Like it or not, that’s what the world is going to receive after Tom cruised throughout Hvar Hvar, Croatia over the weekend. In these photos, Tom was enjoying a late dinner with a few friends, who are probably members of the Church of Scientology of Croatia, which has been open for business since 2003. Of course, he took a few moments to pose with some relatively hot (and busty!) young girls. See what you’re missing, Katie? Nevermind.

Tom Cruise

As a brief detour, I feel the need to mention the good news that Suri finally got that puppy she wanted! The Mail has photos of Katie, Suri, and their new dog, and it will certainly be a fixture in Suri’s life for years to come. The child could certainly use some stability, and taking care of a dog may just provide that. Speaking of which, Suri is due to start school in about a week at Avenues, and according to Page Six, some of the school’s parents want to pull their kids out of the school because they have daughters who look a bit like Suri, and the paps will probably be in their faces. Unfortunate but probably true.

Now onto the meat of this story, which is a doozy and confirms a those rumors that have been the topic of much amusement; that is, the notorious wife auditions held for Tom on behalf of the CO$. So far, it was really only known that Tom had tried to pin down some young and attractive females who were already known to the public, but that was apparently Phase Two of the process. Phase One included the courtship of Nazanin Boniad, who some of you may know from a few episodes of “How I Met Your Mother.” Before Tom met Katie, Nanzanin was apparently The Chosen One who came closest to what she calls “an arranged marriage” with Tom. Obviously, it didn’t work out that way, and Nanzanin was punished severely for disappointing Tom. Here is her story:

Nazanin Boniadi

Vanity Fair special correspondent Maureen Orth reports that in 2004 Scientology embarked on a top-secret project headed by Shelly Miscavige, wife of Scientology chief David Miscavige, which involved finding a girlfriend for Tom Cruise. According to several sources, the organization devised an elaborate auditioning process in which actresses who were already Scientology members were called in, told they were auditioning for a new training film, and then asked a series of curious questions including: “What do you think of Tom Cruise?” Marc Headley, a Scientologist from age seven, who says he watched a number of the audition videotapes when he was head of Scientology’s in-house studio, tells Orth, “It’s not like you only have to please your husband–you have to toe the line for Scientology.” Both Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz ran afoul of Scientology and David Miscavige, according to another former Scientologist. “You can’t do anything to displease Scientology, because Tom Cruise will freak out,” Headley says. (David Miscavige and Tom Cruise declined to be interviewed.)

According to Orth, Nazanin Boniadi, an Iranian-born, London-raised actress and Scientologist, was selected and dated Cruise from November 2004 until January 2005. Initially she was told only that she had been selected for a very important mission. In a month-long preparation in October 2004, she was audited every day, a process in which she told a high-ranking Scientology official her innermost secrets and every detail of her sex life. Boniadi allegedly was told to lose her braces, her red highlights, and her boyfriend. According to a knowledgeable source, she was shown confidential auditing files of her boyfriend to expedite a breakup. The source says Boniadi signed a confidentiality agreement and was told that if she “messed up” in any way she would be declared a Suppressive Person (a pariah and enemy of Scientology).

Orth reports that in November 2004 Boniadi was flown to New York, where she met Cruise. That’s when she first sensed that this was possibly going to be an arranged marriage. For their first date Cruise and Boniadi went to dinner at Nobu with an entourage of Scientology aides, then to the skating rink at Rockefeller Center, which was closed to the public especially for them. The two spent that first night together but, according to several sources, they did not have sex. At the Trump Tower, where Cruise and the entourage had rented an entire floor, Cruise purportedly told Boniadi, “I’ve never felt this way before.” She was given a second confidentiality agreement specifically about Cruise to sign. Boniadi could tell her worried parents only that she was in New York on a special Scientology project.

Though the first month of the relationship was bliss, by the second month Boniadi was more and more often found wanting, Orth reports. According to the knowledgeable source, anything she said or did that Cruise found fault with he immediately reported to a member of the Scientology staff, and she would be audited for it. This began with her very first words to him, “Very well done,” regarding his receiving Scientology’s Freedom Medal of Valor. The phrase implied that Cruise was her junior. According to the knowledgeable source, Boniadi also offended Scientology chief David Miscavige, who speaks rapidly, because she kept saying, “Excuse me?” when she was entertaining him and his wife during a visit to Telluride. In Scientology, the ability to have your communication “and” is crucial. Boniadi was excoriated by Cruise for disrespecting Miscavige.

Boniadi was in love with Cruise, but the intensity of his affection, especially his predilection for public displays, overwhelmed her. “I get more love from an extra than I get from you,” the actor reportedly complained. Every day Boniadi spent two to three hours purging herself of “negative thoughts about Tom.” She felt completely shut off; her only source of money was a credit card issued in the name of Cruise’s production company.

Following the alleged episode with Miscavige, Cruise barely acknowledged Boniadi, though she had moved into his house and they shared a bedroom. By the third week in January, she was asked to move into Scientology’s Celebrity Centre. Boniadi was told that Cruise “wants someone with her own power–like Nicole.” When she asked why Cruise would not break up with her himself, she was told he was not to be disturbed. A Scientology official allegedly told her, by way of explanation, “Naz, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.”

When a friend at a Scientology center in Florida, where Boniadi was subsequently sent, asked why she was crying all the time, Boniadi broke down and told her about her relationship with Cruise, which she had been forbidden to do. According to the knowledgeable source, the friend reported her. Boniadi’s punishment was to scrub toilets with a toothbrush, clean bathroom tiles with acid, and dig ditches in the middle of the night. After that she was sent out to sell Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics on street corners. (A Scientology spokesperson responds: “The Church does not punish people, especially in [that] manner.”)

[From Vanity Fair]

Katie Holmes

Oh yes, the CO$ does punish people in very terrible manners, and if you’d like to know more about their twisted methods of discipline, check out this photo of a Scientologist being punished in the desert. If the treatment described by Nanzanin is any indication, then I can’t even imagine the hell that Katie went through. We already know that Tom screamed at her for days after she questioned the CO$, and he made her look like this. There’s surely a lot more where that came from too.

This VF report must have David Miscavage in quite a rage, and that’s not even the entire article, which (obviously) I cannot wait to read. Other details will include a discussion of Katie and Tom’s pre-nuptual agreement, which was negotiated by her dad (go Martin) and “reportedly filled five Bankers Boxes.” No wonder they settled their divorce in a matter of weeks.

As a side note, Vanity Fair has published a retrospective slideshow of all of its Tom Cruise covers throughout the years. For obvious reasons, this one is my favorite.

Tom Cruise

Here’s some more photos of Tom Cruise hanging out and likely contemplating what moves to put on da ladies. Dude needs to just chill out and stop trying so hard, but you know that will never happen.

It’s just ridiculous and pathetic. Nothing less nothing more.

    • Mia 4S says:

That says it all really. The most plausible explanation I ever heard for the young actress auditions was that he wanted to be part of a couple that would generate Pitt/Jolie-like press. The “biggest movie star in the world” (in his mind) should be part of the hottest couple. Makes sense right? For whatever reason (several possibilities) he has no actual interest something as simple as a loving partnership. It’s about image and control only. He’s a narcissist

Oh God that fire photo! The combined masculinity of Russel Crowe, Christian Bale, and Daniel Craig’s James Bond couldn’t save that, LOL!

      • Amanda_M87 says:

“The combined masculinity of Russel Crowe, Christian Bale, and Daniel Craig’s James Bond couldn’t save that, LOL!”

        LOL! I couldn’t agree more.

    • CTgirl says:

Agreed. Tom Cruise comes across as such a loon. Yuck.

      • beyonce's bump says:

I officially have an immense dislike for him..the story nailed his hate coffin. fcking loon.

      • Lauren says:

Creepytown. Yikes. Katie`s Father is a Lawyer…how could he-she not know about all this weirdness, when the general population knew? I would never=ever want to bear the child of a raging-fanatical cult member.

      • gg says:

The general population still doesn’t know the half of it. Articles like this help a hell of a lot though. But many people don’t read current news – wrapped up in their own routine, they assume it’s an actual religion instead of the crime org of ponzi scheming.

    • Tansey says:

I agree, it really is ridiculous and pathetic. He and the Scientology flunkies involved in these “very important missions” are also extremely stupid if they think this stuff won’t get leaked to the media. Every time a story like this comes out, it makes Tom Cruise and is wacky ass “church” look even crazier, and that’s just fine by me. I hope I get to see this cult get taken down in my life time. They prey on people and take advantage of them when they’re in a bad spot in life. I refuse to believe anyone in their right mind would willingly join this cult.

  2. jilly says:

So he KNOWS that these women do not voluntarily fall in love with him. And that doesn’t bother him? What an entitled narcissistic dweeb. Too bad LeAnn Rimes isn’t a scientologist. They are so perfectly suited.

    • Anne de Vries says:

HE doesn’t fall in love with them – it’s an arranged marriage, but premeditated from his side. I don’t think Katie knew. I think she was calculatingly swept off her feet and really in love, and by the time she really understood what was going on and what kind of man he really was, the pressure was too high to back out.

      • Genevieve says:

        ^^ THIS

      • LAK says:

Whilst i agree with Anne, may i also point about that arranged marriages do work.

They still happen in some parts of the world so it’s not the end of the world to have one, BUT it is horrible if one side of the arrangement is unaware that is the deal.

      • RocketMerry says:

Agreed. He had his team brain-washing her and selecting the more appropriate way to make her fall for him. I suspect they had a love-bombing strategy detailed and tailored so he could reharse and practice his “moves”. Sick.

By the time Katie had Suri, what else could she do but stay with him and hope things would get better? Good thing her uber-worried dad insisted on working out the details of the contracts himself. Good dad.

      • CF98 says:

I agree but I’d like to add she was already pregnant when she met Tom but didn’t realize it until she was in too deep.

I mean you’d think Tom would put up a bigger fight for his biological child unless…

      • Ella says:

@ CF98: Tom and Katie made their first public appearance in April 2005, and Suri was born in April 2006, so she couldn’t have been pregnant when they met. The reason Tom didn’t fight for custody was because Scientology, and the private details of his weird marriage, would have been dragged through the courts. David Miscavige went into damage control, and probably told Tom to divorce quickly and quietly.

    • Amanda Hugginkiss says:

      “They are so pathetically suited.”

There, I fixed it for you.

  3. Lama says:

Not Nora! I loved her character on HIMYM. Now all I’ll be able to see when I look at her is Tom Cruise’s protruding forehead vein.

    • ol cranky says:

if it makes you feel better about her, both she (and her mom) have left CO$ since the tommy-girl debacle

    • Relli says:

Me too, but it does make me question how I met your mother’s CO$ connection Because both her Katie Holmes AND Laura prepon have al guest starred. Glad o hear she moved on though!

      • ol cranky says:

I don’t think she got HIMYM until after she left CO$, from what I gather it looks like the Cruise situation is what made her bolt

There are a lot of CO$ actors and while being CO$ may help them get roles, I don’t think there’s some big CO$ connection pulling at HIMYM (especially considering their anti-gay stance and the show’s complete acceptance of teh gay in NPH and having BArney’s brother be gay)

  4. Amelia says:

Christ. (Yeah, CHRIST. Have that, Xenu).
That picture of the scientologist in the desert is really disturbing. What freak of nature would force another person to do that?

    • barb says:

What’s really scary is that people allow themselves to be abused like that. Its scary what brainwashing can do to someone. The only way we can help is to keep publishing stuff like this, so more and more people can finally see that they don’t deserve to be treated like that. CO$ members are not allowed to view media reports about CO$, but if they do look out of desperation, that’s when the light switch can finally go on.

    • Kate says:

The thing is, walking a maze/labyrinth, sand or other, IS a form of meditation, so the photo’s not that shocking at first blush. Given what we know of CO$, however, I’m pretty confident this is, in fact, a punishment that they’ve carefully window-dressed as something else. (Which is even creepier.)

  5. ollie says:

i still have to ask why did katie holmes take the deal… when several hollywood actresses approached before her ran for the hill???

and people dont give me that she was young and naive excuse… scarlett, alba and bosworth are all younger than her by few years and they all ran as far away from tommy and the COS.

am glad the contract as ended now ,but lets us be realistic that katie had a hand in her own misery the past few years.

i guess she realized too late that the benifits does not outweigh the negatives in this suitation.

    • pinchofsalt says:

      +1

    • v says:

      I agree.

    • Izzy says:

Isn’t it possible that Katie didn’t know about things like the audition process? Courtship always begins with the people involved putting their best faces forward.

      • ollie says:

        oh pls!!!!

what makes u think he didnt court her the same way he did all the other actresses before her???? yet they refuse to take the deal.

scarlett was 19 then and according to reports knew something wasnt right when she saw bunch of COS members hanging around when she went for the supposed audition and got even creeped out when she realized the auidition wasnt really for a movie.

alba also mentioned that she eventually knew what the audition was really about.

the COS factor must have been too much for them.

so how can u say 26 year old katie was so naive to all this???

yet holmes took the deal and even in the begining yapping about the goodness of scientology(WHICH AM SURE WAS PART OF HER CONTRACT)

am glad she is out now

but some people need to start facing the truth that katie holmes willing signed on to a business arrangment to display a sham relationship.

i dont think it make her evil…. rather it comes across as foolish, ambitious and a little of greed.

still her crime is way lower than cruise, Miscavige and the COS organisation.

am just calling it as i see it

      • Anne de Vries says:

So because one person listens to their instincts, another person must have known too? Some people have better developed instincts for ‘wrongness’ than others. Or more practise in listening to them. Maybe the others weren’t swept off their feet as calculatingly as Katie was. Maybe her childhood infatuation made her more susceptible. Maybe by the time Katie got into the picture Cruise had refined the audition process so that it didn’t feel suspect anymore.

I hate that ‘it’s your own fault you fell for an abuser’ line. Cults and abusers don’t advertise their ugliness up front.

      • ollie says:

am reading ex cos members board at the moment

apparently NBC News aired a segment this morning about the article
they interviewed Marc Headley on camera for the piece
and alsotried to contact Naz but without success.

seems those NDAs she signed are preventing her from doing this.

      • Izzy says:

I’m not discounting what you are saying, but people mature at different rates (see: Taylor Swift, age 22, mental age 17). Plus, they focused on her after they read an interview about how Tom Cruise was her girlhood crush. I do think that factor made her much more susceptible. I also think she figured out at some point that it was more merger than marriage, but by then she probably was pregnant, or perhaps had even had Suri. She might not have felt able to get out by then.

Having said all that, I don’t know who in their right mind would want to be a part of $cientology… if I were the type to get suckered into a cult (and I’m very much not the type), I still would’ve run screaming after the first auditing session. I admire the way Katie got out of Co$ and the marriage – talk about a coup! – but I have wondered what the hell took her so long, and why she was OK with it in the first place.

      • Amelia says:

“I’m not discounting what you are saying, but people mature at different rates (see: Taylor Swift, age 22, mental age 17).”
…That’s generous. I was going to go with 13.

    • bns says:

Yup, she did it for her career. If Katie hadn’t married Tom, she would be completely irrelevant by now.

      • gg says:

You’re being sarcastic, right? Because boy, howdy, it sure helped her career, right? Worked in spades, that did. Not.

She married the git because she was in love with the twerp and he was desperate to have a real-looking relationship. It was painfully obviously real on her part, until she figured out she lived in a prison and tom is a zombie.

      • Genevieve says:

        @ bns….Seriously?

@ gg…I absolutely believe that you have the right of it. Arguably, the most powerful man in Hollywood, someone Katie had crushed on since her teens…she desperately WANTED to believe that her dream was coming true.

Wouldn’t have taken much AT ALL for her to fall head over heels with the GMD after all the “love-bombing” her threw her way.

I don’t think you can fake the depressed, heartbroken expression and general demeanor she’s walked around with for the past several years before making her getaway. And, yeah….look at how her acting career has really TAKEN OFF since she married Tommygirl, dude.

The arguments of Katie as scheming gold digger just don’t add up. 🙁

      • LAK says:

@gg – in this case, hooking up with a bigger star didn’t work out for Katie, BUT she had the examples of Nicole Kidman, GOOP, Jen Aniston, Sienna Miller to name but a few whose careers were given a huge boost by their romantic relationships with a mega star. The way she went about exiting the relationship points to calculation and smarts, so as much as she was lovebombed, there is no way she didn’t calculate the boost to her career.

      • gg says:

LAK – I feel like it took her awhile to catch up and get the whole picture. She had to reach the utter disillusion stage first. Then she realized what she was dealing with, and got her dad in on a plan. I very strongly think that were her father not a divorce attorney, things would not have worked out as they did. I used to work in family law; these guys are clever, and they’ve seen it ALL.

      • bns says:

@gg and @Genevieve – Yes, seriously. A Hollywood marriage can be very beneficial for an actor’s career. As an actress, Katie isn’t much, but she has A list name recognition because of her relationship with Tom. It’s cute to believe that she was marrying her childhood crush, the man of her dreams, but don’t tell me that she didn’t know what she was getting herself into. A marriage contract that included a prenup and a confidentiality agreement? Please.

      • LAK says:

@gg – this is hollywood we are talking about. where nothing is as simple as it appears.

people used to talk openly and quite seriously about how joining co$ was a good move if you wanted to make it in Hollywood. And that was back in the 90s when i was a college student.

The more sinister aspects of co$ have only been revealed publicly in recent years. There is no way in hell that Katie didn’t know about Tom, if i across the pond knew about him and i wasn’t anywhere near hand holding distance of him. And it wasn’t just about the cult, but also about his personality which was known to be overbearing, robot control, earnest OTT. Her ridiculous zombie interview in W shows that she already knew alot because she wasn’t married yet at that point BUT as soon as a diamond necklace was delivered, she started dancing and laughing and being the soul of the party……go back and read it again. It’s a detail that i found really disconcerting. It’s a jarring note in an otherwise Zombie KAte interview.

I also can’t forget that in her efforts to appear as mother courage she let the public believe that THOSE VEHICLES THAT WERE ACROSS THE BUILDING FROM HER WHERE CO$ VEHICLES/ASSOCIATES…..There is an entire thread here on CB about those vehicles and how Katie is in danger etc and it turns out they were HER OWN NEW bodyguards.

As a narrative, it is so easy to believe that Katie was an innocent lamb to the slaughter, especially by the way she exited as mother courage but i don’t buy that one bit. people dating/marrying to advantage is nothing new in Hollywood even if there is a sinister cult standing by.

NOw i can argue about extent of her collusion but she isn’t innocent.

      • gg says:

@bns, that’s standard operating procedure for high profile marriages, even outside of hollywood.

But even if, so what? Would that make her a bad person? Might make her a bit into the artifice, but the good she’s done far outweighs her going for her own interests. It’s a dead issue. She’s wiser and out now. Pointless to paint her as a scheming harpie because it’s clear she was bamboozled – look at her depressed photos, there are thousands. That is real and genuine depression; and she did something about it. And it hasn’t helped her career any.

But I do hope it does now, personally. Anything she can get out of that giant fiasco she’s earned at this point. She’s already done a tremendous service to the people dying to take down the crime org by the attention.

      • Genevieve says:

        @ LAK and bns…

I’m not sure I understand why you girls want to continue to make Katie culpable in the disaster that was TomKat. Why try so hard to portray her as a scheming gold digger who was trying to use Tommygirl as a back-board for her career? LAK, the “zombie interview” that you referred to affected me in the exact *opposite* way from how you took it. I view it as a girl in love with a powerful man, almost unable to believe that her dreams are coming true…so easy to brainwash and spoon feed CO$ rhetoric to that malleable a victim. Her ramblings in that article portrayed her as someone in love, who was trying really hard to believe the dream, even if it meant exploring (and coughing up for that ill-fated article) the very foreign and scary world of CO$.

I really do believe that Katie was a very naive, sheltered young woman. I mean, think about it, did you ever hear about her acting like LiLo, Amanda Bynes or even one of Demi’s kids while out and about in H’wood? No. Maybe “everyone” in H’wood knew about Tom being a CO$ freak, but Katie spent most of her career at that point filming at a remote studio in rural Wilmington, NC. Pretty far removed from film industry shenanigans and gossip.

I just think it’s dreadfully unfair to point the finger at Katie and say, “YOU were the architect of your doom and future misery w/ the GMD”. Yes, maybe…by being naive and trusting. An NDA is standard fare in celebrity marriages. I’m just grateful that Martin Holmes is a skilled attorney who was trying to look out for his little girl, even when she was too infatuated to do that for herself.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar…you know?

      • LAK says:

@Genevieve – I am not trying to paint Katie as a mastermind, just refusing to swallow the naive, innocent that you all want to believe. exihibit 1 – those co$ vehicles that turned out to be her new bodyguards.

I am not making any excuses for either one. If you take away the co$, Tom is still the overbearing, control freak. This is very well documented behaviour before and after Co$. Infact, his character is far more well documented in the community for many years than his co$ shenanigans. Hollywood is a very small community gossip-wise even though technically it’s a worldwide community. He has never hidden who he is personality-wise. co$ is the universal public excuse for him because that makes more sense to decent people.

That zombie interview was disturbing on very many levels. The fact that a co$ person is in the room with them and is making sure she stays on message is truly disturbing. and yet, when the gift arrives at the end of the interview, all is ok?????

Please co$ was the price she had to pay for the cartier until it got too much. That interview was given quite early in their relationship, so she knew.

      • Miss T says:

@LAK, How do know that the vehicle following Katie was her own security? Just because Tom’s camp said it was, doesn’t make it so. I saw a video on youtube of Katie’s bodyguard calling the police with complaints that Katie was being followed, so I tend to believe her story. I don’t think she would go so far as to call the police if she wasn’t really being followed. She could have gotten into a lot of trouble for making false claims.

      • LAK says:

@Miss T – Based upon various ex-co$ accounts, she is being followed, but not by those guys. They were publicly identified by everyone as co$, only for them to turn out to be her own. It wasn’t Tom’s team that identified them although they did use it to their advantage in his PR efforts.

    • Sugar says:

I’ll take childhood crush for a thousand Alex…

    • CG says:

I thought the rumor was that Katie was knocked up with Suri but she and Chris Klein broke up, and since she’s Catholc she couldn’t be an unwed (or at least unbetrothed) mother, and along came the deranged lift-wearing midget with his marriage contract to save the day. That’s why there are rumors that Suri’s real birthday is actually several months before Tom and Katie claim she gave birth.

      • gg says:

There is no “the” rumor – there are many, and they’re all speculation unless something is proven. None have held water yet.

    • geekychick says:

I don’t believe for a second she was innocent and naive in all of that.

    • Kim says:

The others didnt have a crush on him for years. She used to have a poster of him on her bedroom wall.Thats the difference IMO

      • gg says:

A very good point they love to ignore. I think it’s the entire crux of her defense.

      • Liz says:

I’d love to see the original source for this ‘girlhood crush’ idea. I actually read the girlhood crush was on Tom Hanks but the partyline changed it to Tom Cruise to enhance the whole fairytale story.
I also seem to remember her father negotiated a heavy up-front amount to be placed into a KH account. That would seem to dispel the idea she was never in it for the money.
As for the fame, I also think she thought it would enhance her career. Her name recognition is in the stratosphere; she was just never able to live up to it because of her marginal talent. I am keen to see her new H&Y collection, but every indication, from what she has shown to date, is that she will never be a Posh or Stella McCartney.
Listen, I am no TC fan and I think he is a bit looney, but KH is way futher ahead than if she never married TC.

      • Elizabeth says:

@ Liz (nice name by the way!)
Who the hell has a crush on Tom Hanks?! Katie is barely 30 and Tom Hanks was not exactly handsome even in his prime. He is a brilliant actor in dramas and comedies but crush-able? No.

      • Anne de Vries says:

@ Liz – even if she did think it would help her career, that was probably outright promised to her. Scientology explicitly promises advances in your career.

    • starsh says:

What is sad about Holmes is, even if she was naive etc, she willingly reproduced and was about to put her own little girl into that sex-slave (arranged marriage) situation one day. Do it yourself, but don’t make your child suffer! Glad she got out in time before poor Suri was ruined.

      • Isa says:

I agree that she may be older but she still seemed way more naive than the other girls. And supposedly Katie wast auditioned she was asked on a date after she stated her crush in an interview. I’ve never read the quotes from Scarlett and Jessica alba but I would like to.
I think she was picked because of her naivity and her crush. A famous movie star sweeps you off your feet. Then he gets pregnant before the honeymoon phase was over. Their courtship, pregnancy and marriage happened really fast. Also she had just ended what I’m going to assume was an awful relationship with Chris klein (based on reports of how douchey he is)
Romantic outings, proposing at the top of the Effiel tower, no wonder she was swept off her feet. And I’m sure the thought of being maried to him helping her career crossed her mind. I bet he even promised to help her.
Also, she may have dismissed the rumors about Tom and his cult as just gossip. She is a celebrity she knows how often lies get published.
At the beginning of her relationship the rumors about Scientology were just whispers. Now they’re getting louder. More and more people are aware of how crazy and scary it is.
I think Katie got in over her head too fast.

      • gg says:

        +1 with Isa. ^^^

      • Genevieve says:

        ^^ ITA, Isa and gg!!

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

To back up @isa, @gen @gg, my aunt was Katie’s grade school teacher in Ohio. She also goes to church with her parents. Katie was very quiet, respectful and naive. She was told that it was possible to be both Catholic and a Scientologist. If she was lied to about that, what else could they have been telling her?

I’d also like to add that I think she was vulnerable to the cult and cruises lies because she was probably still upset about it being over with Klein. Perhaps she thought it would be fun to rebound with Cruise, but the love bombing roped her in (and before she knew it she was trapped).

    • ZenB!tch says:

She was an unwed Catholic pregnant with Chris Klein’s child. CK had just dumped her and she had just moved to NY and she was going on and on about how she was going to start over as a single girl in NYC then BAM she hooks up with Cruise?

She was in a Bridget Moynahan situation but with a ahole.

      • Genevieve says:

ZenB….I’m curious. Just HOW is it that you are certain Katie was preggers with Chris Klein’s baby? I think that’s a bit of a leap, sorry.

      • mayamae says:

Good Lord! This is not the 1950’s. Even if your scenario were true, Katie would have been a 26 y/o millionaire, with an extremely close and well off family. If all unwed mothers were this blessed the world would be a better place and I probably wouldn’t have been placed for adoption.

I like the girl but give me a break. Give her some credit for having a brain. A virginal ex-nun who lived in a convent her whole life would not be as innocent as some here want to portray Katie.

She’s a human being, not a saint. Can’t you just settle for a good person who made some crappy choices, but was smart and strong enough to correct them?

    • A- says:

If she got courted by him, maybe it felt good. I’ve been swept off my feet by assholes, even when I *knew* they were assholes. The bs just felt *so* good. Until it didn’t. She might have known it was bs, but it might have felt so good (she has said she had a crush on him when she was a kid) that she ignored her inner voice. Ladies, how many of us have ignored our inner voices?

      • Ennie says:

I have an asshole half brother… Very succesful with the ladies, nice and pretty women who he always dissapoints. A manipulative, almost conman, deadbeat dad.
He did not ned help to find his women, unlike TC.
About that… How come he could dismiss this Naz lady without even see her in the eyes, even after practically living together, like if she was a hired ****e. because he did not like some of her mannerisms/ untrained actions?
        He totally needed a Robo-wife!
I just can’t think pass that and still like him as a celeb, nor as an actor. Really, RIP any liking I had for him left.

    • palermo says:

I think she took the deal because she was already pregnant by whoever, he didn’t want to marry her, and voila, a solution to that problem

    • Rin says:

Agreed, when she let him knock her out if the Dark Knight (probably because of Bale’s hotness) I realized she was completely nuts. She’s a horrible actress and that would have been a dream role.

  6. pretty says:

He is really handsome…Just just the face… lol
He looks soo good in these photos!!

    • pinchofsalt says:

Nope, he looks too thin in these pics. Wish he would have worldwide auditions though. Sigh.

      • Izzy says:

And a big welcome to the $cientology trolls. You all should know that you’re easily spotted on this board, and not taken seriously at all.

    • TexTRex says:

Pretty, really? Is that you, Kirstie???

      • Genevieve says:

        @ pinch and pretty….

        OMG!!

You were assigned to be working on MY computer today, NOT Kirstie’s!! I am SO so bummed…:(

        In Xenu’s name,

    • Genevieve says:

      * feels gorge rising in her throat*

      @ pretty……

I guess you haven’t read Tony Ortega’s articles in the Village Voice about Sci-cultology and Tom’s knowledge of and involvement in treating humans like plow horses. Guess you’ve never heard of Marty Rathbun or John Brousseau, both of whom were high-ranking CO$ members before they got a clue, ended the brainwashing and got the eff OUT. Or Lisa McPherson…or Elli Perkins…or Alexander Jentzsch. All people who were murdered, either directly or indirectly by the “Church” of $cientology.

If you ARE a CO$ troll, then you’re already well aware of these facts. If you’re just an uniformed ostrich of a Tommygirl fan? Well, now you have a few resources to check out. After having read them, I wonder how long your “TC is handsome and awesome!!” rant will continue. Having read these articles, you can never again say, “Oh, gee whiz, I didn’t know!”.

      Enjoy the weather in Clearwater.

    • gg says:

Here, have some cake, Kirstie …

    • KellyinSeattle says:

Maybe he should pick one of the girls from Croatia…they’re all shorter than him!

  7. Julie says:

If there were a fund that was dedicated to bringing down Scientology I would donate but all I can do is buy this issue of VF. Maybe if other outlets see Conde Nast making a profit off exposing CO$ they’ll get off their collective butts and show just how craptastic being a member of this cult is. No wonder Cruise went to Croatia for a CO$ inspired vacation. I’m sure he had a heads up this was coming. It’s going to make that Oscar VF party a little uncomfortable next year.

    • barb says:

I agree. The best way to support the outing of the abuses of this cult to buy magazines that write these truthful articles, so then they’ll keep writing them! Good call Julie. I’ll be buying it now for sure.

    • LAK says:

With VF publishing this stuff, i finally believe that Tom and co$ have lost any clout they formerly had.

VF is notorious for kissing Tom’s butt, and have done so every year with their annual Tom-is-great fluff article.Tom’s annual cover had become predictable. And they always put him on the most important issues of the year.

And he receives an honoured&favoured guest time slot at their Oscar party.

I can’t wait to see how far he has fallen with the time slot he is given this year – if he shows up.

VF publishing this article about co$ is a BIG RED FLAG about the demise of co$. They would never have dared in the past.

  8. phaksi says:

If Katie agreed to all of this she must have really been in love

    • ollie says:

or maybe greedy and foolish enough to believe that the benifits would out weigh the negatives.

am tried of hearing the ‘she must have been in love’ excuse, when most people are reporting it was a business arrangment from the very start.

people on here cant on one hand belive cruise is gay and has never had sexual relationship with holmes, yet also think katie was in love with him.

the way i see it, katie got out when her contract finished.

      • phaksi says:

i don’t see how see benefited though. Her career was dead and she was just the 1st lady of Scientology

      • Anne de Vries says:

        http://www.wmagazine.com/celebrities/archive/katie_holmes

Really? Does that read like a person who is making a well-reasoned decision to you? Because to me it sounds like somebody heavily under the influence of Scientology’s particular brand of mind altering techniques.

      • atorontogal says:

@ Ollie…so your opinion is the only one that counts? We all read the same articles and take different things away from them. If some people choose to believe that yes Katis was young, naive and in love so what? Maybe the other girls were more savvy than her. But each and every one of us is entitled to our opinions without having to be bashed by yours!

      • Bernice says:

Oh my, in the W article she sounds literally brain washed……

      • MerryHappy says:

With that W article… That was painful. She was like a robot programmed to be a 13 year old girl in love with tom cruise.
        ‘did you wash your hands?’
‘tom likes clean hands. Tom likes soap. I love Tom.’
‘…what are you’re views on foreign policy?’
‘tom helps foreigners. He visits faraway countries like Japan and Sweden. Tom and i will be together forever.’
        ‘…okay.’
‘tom. where’s tom? I love tom. He’s wonderful. Where did tom go?’

        ‘tom?’

      • Izzy says:

Holy crap. I had not read the W article before. It is just creepy and vile. Can you imagine her parents reading that? They surely did (probably as a “proud parents” kind of thing) and they must’ve lost their minds with worry then (if they hadn’t already).

    • barb says:

Right, cause women have never made stupid decisions regarding their love lives before! She got caught up in it…and when she realized what she had done, it was too late. It probably took her the whole 5 years to get the extrication plan in motion.

  9. e.non says:

gonna be interesting to see if there’s any fallout from this piece. orth is tim russert’s widow and deeply tied into that wdc/ny media/political world. esp msnbc.

cruise must be flipping out. all his money and all of his xenu power are irrelevant.

gotta state the obvious: how the hell can sentient adults fall for this bullshit. it’s completely mystifying.

    • Izzy says:

I didn’t know that about Maureen Orth! I’m glad, though, because it might provide her some protection from the machinations of this creepy cult.

      • pinchofsalt says:

I am a TC fan, despite his stance on his religion.

      • Izzy says:

OK, but when you buy that movie ticket, you should remember that a portion of the proceeds will end up in the pockets of TC, who has taken advantage of the slave labor offered by Co$, as well as Co$ itself, which by all accounts that have come to light, engages in slave labor, child slave labor, interstate kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and according to the lawsuit won by the family of a deceased member – wrongful death.

I hope your conscience can live with that. Mine can’t. And I can’t be a fan of someone who would support that, so I can’t be a fan of TC.

      • Ennie says:

I do not pay for T Cruise’s movies. Last was MI2. not again. Any movie I see of him, I get for free on TV or else. I boycott him with my husband. Not much interested anyway. Most of it lately has been purely commercial.

  10. Lee says:

Tom Cruise is a very disturbed man. His celebrity has given rise to scientology, and obviously is Cult Like. Hooray for Katie escaping this life and moving back to a normal life. Im sure her motives were for Suri’s well being.

  11. Cathy says:

    Bwahahahahahahaha….that Vanity Fair picture….bwahahahahahaha.

  12. Sue says:

Never ceases to amaze me how people can get sucked into cults……

  13. ollie says:

btw i forgot to say that i read that Nazanin and her mother have left the COS now….happy for them

the lady is truly stunning this picture posted doesnt do her justice, the one i saw on vanity fair website is just so beautiful.

  14. DanaG says:

I want to know who is one his next list? A blonde maybe? Or another dark haired girl?Whatever happened to that poor woman? I don’t think Katie stood a chance. I think if she hadn’t had such a huge crush on Tom Cruise and was so blinded by all the attention it wouldn’t have happened but then she did fall pregnant within a few weeks of meeting Tom. Which in itself was a miracle.

  15. Eve says:

His face (bottom picture) after hearing the answer to the question: “What is a vagina again?”.

  16. Cody says:

I am glad finally Scientology is getting more press and showing what it truly is, a cult. I surprised people in Hollywood still want to work with Cruise. I know it would freak me out, to find out a co-worker was into this stuff.

    • Izzy says:

It is good that they are being exposed, but sadly, more people are going to get sucked into it each day. Groups like this prey on the vulnerable.

    • gg says:

Some incredibly gifted people have been sucked in, and sometimes it makes me want to cry, and I’ve scratched them off my heroes list because of it, until they quit.

  17. Geekychic says:

Yeah, co$ is registered in Croatia, but I don’t think they are particularly popular or anything. And I think those people he was with are not from Croatia-our sites would already report on it.
Hahahaha, Croatia is known for it’s women and girls, especially Dalmatian girls, but somehow I don’t think that means anything to Tom.
Although, I have to admit-he looks really good. Too bad co$ got him.

  18. The Original Mia says:

Disturbing story. Happy to hear Naz & her mother got out. What a pathetic life Tom lives.

  19. Mac says:

What a pathetic excuse for a life that Tom Cruise leads.

In spite of his successes he is little more than a puppet to his Scientology masters.

  20. Kitty_Cal says:

It’s funny. I have a very good friend from China. She and I were discussing Chinese celebrities who are famous in the US and US celebrities who are famous in China. Tom Cruise was the first American star she mentioned. When we got to talking about him I realized she had no idea about him beyond his movies and seemed to like him. After giving her the run down of Scientology and showing her some articles I don’t think she’ll be able to look at him the same way again.

  21. Mia says:

This is messed up. But makes me wonder what the hell Katie was thinking. It’s great that she and Suri are out of that madness now, but to me Katie was still complicit in getting into that mess. Plenty of actresses walked away, she didn’t. Maybe she thought she was going to become a big star through Cruise, maybe she wanted the luxurious lifestyle through his fortune, who knows. She shares the responsibility for this choice in her life, just as she made the right one in getting away.

Oh and I agree with the poster above, Tom looks relatively good here, a bit thin/tired but still good. Seriously want to know what plastic surgery/treatments he uses to look natural but younger.

And not all of us who don’t go poor Katie, crazy Tom etc are Scientology trolls. Maybe we just have a different opinion from you?

    • Jayna says:

Tell me about it. I have read about Scientology and the cult it is for many years, not just jumping on the bandwagon since the Tom/Katie story. I think in many respects Tom has lost his mind in that cult. But because I don’t jump on the Katie is a complete victim/saint/Tom is a complete monster bandwagon on every story (like she is just living life in front of the press/but he is using Suri for press) I have been accused of being a COS member on here. LOL Too funny.

    • Mira says:

Tom is pathetic in the sense that he needs to have a partner in his life. He cannot do without one but that’s practically everyone in hollywood. Tom takes it to another level with all the BS public display of how awesome his love/family life is. His obsession to pitch his image to the public in a certain way is what has cost him dearly. if I were his publicist I would advice him to lie low, STFU about COS (which he has since 2005-2005 debacle), ditch action fluff, take up more character backed roles and come out in public only for promoting movies. No photo ops with Suri or his older children. No fourth marriage.

Of course Katie is complicit in her marriage to Tom and also in the divorce. No one has held Tom’s balls in the media like Katie has since the divorce announcement.

    • Anne de Vries says:

And to you too I will ask to read this:
      http://www.wmagazine.com/celebrities/archive/katie_holmes

And tell me how this sounds like somebody who was making a calculating decision.

She was swept up in the whirlwind of Tom! Cruise! Loves! Me! and then she disappeared completely off the radar for three weeks. To Gold Base. A woman who was reportedly constantly in contact with her close-knit family and her friends goes incommunicado for three weeks without warning. Then when she pops back up, she is sounding like a zombie and saying things that go completely against her previous values, like “People who say that (they are worried about me) aren’t my friends”

Really? That sounds like somebody who knew what was going on?

  22. lucy2 says:

I saw something a few weeks ago, maybe on E!? that had an ex-co$ who was part of the audition team, maybe the guy in this article, not sure. I totally believe all that happened as described.

The whole this is sad, scary, and pathetic.

    • lostmyfamtodisconnection says:

The story has been confirmed by Paul Haggis as true

      http://www.celebuzz.com/2012-09-03/ex-scientologist-paul-haggis-confirms-vanity-fair-tom-cruise-story/

The COS is a carefully crafted, mind-fk
and have been enjoying a relatively media-free existence ever since they sued time magazine for millions (and lost)-but they have been intimidating media outlets & government agencies since the 60’s–google operation snow white, ex-scientology kids, deaths in scientology–the truth WILL come out, sometimes it’s just slow

      • Izzy says:

Based on your posting handle here, I assume your family was sucked into Co$, you were not, and they cut you off? If that is the case, you truly have my sympathy, and welcome to the CB boards, where the discourse tends toward friendly and intelligent. We may not all agree on whether Katie was complicit or calculating or naive or whatever, but the overwhelming majority of us here agree that Co$ is a purely evil entity to be taken apart, ASAP.

  23. Eleonor says:

He must have audited away a bunch of weight, and he is too thin now, but I have to admit his face looks good for a 50 years old. I don’t know if he has a plastic surgeon, whoever is , is extremely talented.

    • Jayna says:

I guess he hasn’t knocked everything out of his mind, because it’s obvious from stress he has dropped weight. His face is thin and arms and shoulders.

Tom doesn’t do well out of a relationship. He has to have a woman in his life. It won’t be long. He needs to date a Scientologist, though, unless he wakes up and smells the roses about the cult.

      • Boo says:

He couldn’t care less about having a woman in his life. The bad press is what’s getting to him. Maybe even his boyfriend David Miscavage has cut him off to punish him for not keeping Katie under tighter control.

      • gg says:

        They deffo aren’t roses.

  24. Sabrine says:

Tom has hardly ever been without a woman. I would bet he’s feeling lonely and out of sorts right now. After he dumped Nicole he quickly latched onto Penelope Cruise as I recall. The next one he dates will likely be a transitional partner as Penelope was while he searches or is set up with someone more permanent.

    • gg says:

Sabrine, you forgot to put the quotes around “dates”.

    • LAK says:

He was already dating Penelope before he dumped Nicole.

It’s all been conveniently re-written so he doesn’t look like a bad guy and people clearly bought it and have short memories.

They met on the set of VANILLA SKY. He wasn’t discreet about it. I assume once the public fall out of his divorce from Nicole happened, his pr people went to work to present a gap that never was.

      • Izzy says:

REEEEEAAAALY? How interesting, and thanks for pointing it out! Now I’m curious enough to Google for more info on that. Sounds like a PR con job at its best. (And to be clear, I am not being sarcastic towards you, I actually do appreciate this morsel of info you posted!)

  25. Ranunculus says:

I wonder when the media tries to uncover the real biological father issue.

    http://crushable.com/entertainment/katie-holmes-chris-klein-tom-cruise-suri-cruise-father-833/

Sorry, but TC always was off, totally creepy, something deeply disturbing about him. Why he of all people became one of the biggest movie stars is completely beyond me.

    • Katija says:

Suri looks more like Tom than Chris IMO. Swear I’m not a Clearwater troll, it’s just my honest reaction to a side-by-side of the three of them.

      • TG says:

I agree, I don’t see how the Chris Klein rumors still persist. I love a good conspiracy theory, and when you are dealing with Co$ freaks anything is possible, but Suri looks just like tommy girl or tommy davis but nothing like Klein. Of course even if she is tommygirl’s that doesn’t mean they had sex in order to conceive her.

      • Izzy says:

@Katija – I don’t think everyone is a Co$ troll just because their opinions aren’t the same as mine.

I totally agree with you about Suri – since her first cover appearance (wasn’t it on Vanity Fair, LOL?) I’ve thought she looks very much like Tom. Her eyes are the same as his, from what I can see in photos. I don’t buy the conspiracy theory about the baby daddy drama either.

      • gg says:

Kat – that isn’t trolltalk at all. I totally believe Suri is blood related to Tom. She’s his doppelganger in the looks department. Let’s just hope and pray she doesn’t share any other characteristics with him. holey, moley, we don’t need a high powered female scilon, related to Mr. Freakazoid, running the cult of insanity.

      • Seagulls says:

Siri does look like Tom, but she also kind of resembles that Davis character who hasn’t been heard from in a while, and also Tom’s cousin, William Mapother. The only reason that I believe some paternity conspiracy still is Katie’s ridiculous bump. Do you remember how it would look different from week to week, and this was after Katie had disappeared from the public for a few weeks! It was well within their rights as parents, but not to show newborn pictures at all added fuel to the fire for me.

    • Ampersand says:

ITA on TC’s creepiness. He increasingly gives me a Christian Bale in American Psycho sort of vibe.

  26. bella says:

how is it that this cult is able to get away with slavery? isn’t that against the law in this country? shameful that law enforcement hasn’t closed this “church” down. i read somewhere recently that the FBI was investigating some allegation against the COS, but it’s appalling that the allegations have continued for so long…DO SOMETHING!

    • Diane says:

IMHO anything that has to do with religion, the government has to tread softly. Now that said, I’m not sure how CO$ gets away with being classified as a religious and, therefore, tax exempt. But that probably explains why they can get away with (alleged) slavery. Lots of religions are notoriously secretive like the Mormons or Catholics. Look how long the Catholic Church got away with pedophilia.

      • Izzy says:

Re: the tax-exempt status issue… the IRS actually revoked their status at one point, I believe. I recall reading in more than one news publication that Co$ litigated it for so long the IRS decided to give up and not waste any more taxpayer money.

Speaking as a taxpayer, I for one would not mind one bit if they used some of my tax money to shut down this racket once and for all. Preferrably before someone else is killed by them.

      • gg says:

Anonymous needs to ramp it up again. I’d donate to the cause for sure.

      • jwoolman says:

The Catholics aren’t “notoriously secretive”. Their two thousand years of history, all doctrine and practices, are right out there in the open. Any exceptions are weird little groups that are not mainstream, crazies and throwbacks exist everywhere. But if you want to join up with the Catholic Church, you definitely have full disclosure. And you can leave anytime you want, no disconnection from family or friends. Okay, your mom might complain, but that’s what all moms do.

And as far as covering up for pedophiles is concerned – so was everybody else. It’s only relatively recently that such things have become openly discussed. Other religious and secular organizations did the same thing as the Catholics did, at best just reassigning such people out of reach of children if their activities became known to people with authority to do so. The big problem was getting the right people to believe it. That’s much easier now. A vow of celibacy does not make a man turn into a pedophile, by the way…

    • gg says:

It’s all about payola and insiders, and Diane’s comment at the (phony) religion aspect is true, and Elron Blubbard knew that.

    • Seagulls says:

I think they tread lightly because of a past history of raids that have backfired – see Waco and the Short Creek raid. And it’s a sad fact of politics, but right wing demagogues used Clinton trying to do something about the Branch Davidians as evidence that Democrats target religion.

  27. ol cranky says:

There seems to be a rumor going around that Tommy Davis may have blown. I hope that’s true and would be dying to hear what he has to say though, since Anne Archer is him mom (and she become apoplectic when she is even questioned about CO$), my guess is that there’s no way he’d escaped unscathed

    • Kate says:

I’ve also heard that he’s in disfavored-Scientologist jail, due to the fact that he supposedly blew, that the TC thing blew up in the media so dramatically, and, most insanely of all, because his wife’s cancer is back and supposedly, in Scieno, cancer is seen as some kind of failing. I can’t even.

      • gg says:

I so, I hope he escapes and tells all. But just escaping alone would be good.

      • TG says:

Of course when tommy davis escapes everything he says will be lies about the cult. That is their standard defense angainst everybody who escapes and lives to tell the tale.

      • Genevieve says:

        @ Kate…

        Oh. My. GOD.

I can’t even, either. I lost my mom to that hideous disease when I was in my early twenties. I can’t even wrap my brain around someone using that against another person.

But as VILE as CO$ is…that would fit right in with their corporate culture. Please notice that I did not say “religion”.

        VERY interesting news.

    • Menehune says:

Marty Rathbun’s blog has the following comment from Mike Mike Rinder:

“Jessica is recovered but she and Tommy have no intention of returning to the Sea Org.

In fact, they are enjoying a European Vacation with Anne and Terry.

Dave is scared shitless about what Tommy and Jessica know. They will be given the kid glove treatment. I very much doubt they will be sent a $350,000 Freeloader bill or receive a visit from Marion Pouw and Mike Sutter….

Sooner or later his conscience will eat away at him.”

Izzy is correct when she says

“OK, but when you buy that movie ticket, you should remember that a portion of the proceeds will end up in the pockets of TC, who has taken advantage of the slave labor offered by Co$, as well as Co$ itself, which by all accounts that have come to light, engages in slave labor, child slave labor, interstate kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and according to the lawsuit won by the family of a deceased member – wrongful death.”

    No more Tom Cruise movies!~

    • Bluedog says:

Sorry, that sounds good but it just isn’t true–unless Tom Cruise’s contract for that particular movie has a clause where he gets a back-end deal with movie profits in it. Otherwise, he got his salary UPFRONT and the cost of the ticket doesn’t go to him.

      • Ennie says:

But a good partbof the money the movie makes comes from tickets, rentals and PPW? Dont they? So not paying for those at least is good to not to put your money into this organization with this type of celebs.

      • LAK says:

Tom’s continued Box office success is the reason he gets the salary he gets and or any back end deals.

If his box office was to wane, so would his salary etc. It’s a very clear linear relationship.

He uses his salary to fund co$. So anyone who keeps up with his films is indirectly feeding the co$ machine.

      • Izzy says:

At this point, all his movies involve back end profits (no pun intended), because he is involved on a production level in everything he works on.

    • jwoolman says:

Even watching his movies on cable ultimately supports him, alas. Nowadays they know right away how many houses are watching… I suppose you could try to team up in Cruise movie parties to minimize the ratings! 🙂

    • erika says:

      said it before and again….

i boycotted ALL tom cruise movies when all this brooke shields/postpartum/mattlauer/katie/couch crap went down…

i thought he had imagined one HELL of a pair of BALLS on him for that S***t. Ive never gone to a movie theater w/ him, no rentals, no cable, Nuffin’!

let me say, it’s not so difficult to do!

does he have any fans anywhere? maybe the rural midwest (stereotype i know) where people just don’t dig into this celeb stuff so much?

tom fans, really, who? where? why? any celebs a fan of his…???

  29. Aria says:

    No pity party for Tom.

  30. only1shmoo says:

    OK, first things first:
#1, I had no idea that Croatia had a CO$, and with that, I can assure you that we aren’t all that crazy (I’m half Croat, and I’m really embarrassed right now!)
#2, Naz’s story leaves me with such a sick feeling in my stomach…that same feeling I get when I eat too much gulash, *blech*. I hope the CO$ gets reamed for this and never recovers!!!
#3, I’ve copied a link from YouTube here. I hope you all can access it, but it’s basically a skit of Tom Cruise auditioning new wives, and it’s hilarious (made by Barely Political). Seriously, watch it!

    http://youtu.be/xZzczBTa8rI?hd=1

    • geekychick says:

Trust me, although it’s registered, no, I don’t believe Co$ is particularly active or successful here (especially because of recession, who would have the money for CO$ in Cro?). I mean, I live in Zagreb and during my whole life I met just one person who turned out to be co$ (and I realized that after the Co$ scandal, I just thought he was a bit mental before), but he lived in USA half of his life.

      • only1shmoo says:

Oh thank God; I haven’t been to Zagreb for ~2 years, so I thought this was a new movement. Hvala ; )

    • Blannie says:

That video is hilarious, thank for sharing that link.

The Maureen Orth story is disturbing on so many levels. Shows Tommie Boy to be a really evil person for participating in such an orchestrated, dishonest, awful plot.

      • only1shmoo says:

I know, it’s really chilling. Glad you liked the video : D

      • LAK says:

This story has been unofficially known since it happened. Most people thought it kooky at best, and just gossip at worst. Those ‘FREE KATIE’ t-shirts were super popular almost as soon as they married/dated. The Village Voice has kept up a steady stream of indepth articles about co$ and about this ‘audition.’ Tom Cruise’s personal co$ instructor has confirmed the story many times.

So one would say, this is simply a crescendo that has been building for several years. Katie’s defection has clearly signalled to main stream media that they can openly talk about co$ without fear of retribution or lawsuits.

I am glad VAnity FAir is finally writing about this because they are the first main stream media outlet to have the balls to do so. And they have the clout which The Village voice doesn’t have, and the legal smarts to only print articles that can be defended in a court of law.

I have read Orth’s pieces over the years but i feel in this instant she simply regurgitated stuff that was already known publicly. Or maybe Vanity FAir is using her clout to legitimise what they have wanted to write for many years and couldn’t. Let’s not forget that they have written a pro-Tom Cruise Article every year, praising him to the skies. They can’t very well write a negative article under the byline of a less than stellar journalist. it would look so lame.

    • gg says:

I’m jealous! Croatia is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!

      • geekychick says:

🙂 Thank you! Yes, it is:it’s so diverse in natural beauty and so rich with historical monuments and with a fine cuisine too! 🙂 where have you been, if it’s not too intrusive (or OT,sorry guys)? 🙂
I love to travel and I think that every country is beautiful:I’d kill for a wedding on Rhodes.:)

      • gg says:

oh, it’s definitely on the bucket list. We get to Europe every few years and if I’m anywhere near there, I am going down the coast! The stunning landscape alone rivals anything around. I watch travel reporting and it’s very popular.

I have been to The Netherlands, UK, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Germany and France, sort of avoiding the sunny places on purpose – but I am into hiking and photography and Croatia is paradise.

Sorry to the board for getting off topic. 🙂

      • only1shmoo says:

Thanks gg; I can’t take as much credit as geekychick (i’m only a half breed), but the coast is pretty nice…i’m getting a hankering for fried “ribice” now, mmmm.

      • flan says:

Saw a documentary once about the sights in Croatia and it struck me as a beautiful country with its own distinct atmosphere.

Now I have to learn more about its cuisine too 😉

      • Genevieve says:

        I double-down second gg!!

WOW. On my bucket list, too. Absolutely stunning!

  31. Paloma says:

I have to wonder if Suri was a planned pregnancy, an oopsie baby, or was it part of Tom’s plan to produce a child. I have never seen this discussed. I think Katie threw caution in the wind and just went with whatever Tom wanted.

    • CF98 says:

I think Katie was already pregnant with child when she met Tom but didn’t realize it until it was too late

  32. Dee Cee says:

We must ask why does he need another wife replacement so soon? The child has a fully capable and loving, living mother?

    • LAK says:

      i don’t think it’s a mother replacement.

Tom has never been single as far as i can remember. At least not for more than a few weeks. He is like those girls who line up the next relationship before they’ve exited the last one. I think that’s why he is single right now. If he had been the one to divorce Katie, there would have been one lined up already.

      • Izzy says:

^^ THIS. Plus, I don’t think Katie’s team, which includes her father (who is apparently a VERY good lawyer) would ever allow the situation to evolve where Katie ended up replaced as Suri’s mother.

  33. Sunnyinseattle says:

LMAO AT the Vanity Fair pict of him jumping like a ballerina with the wind in his hair. HAHAHAHA. 😉 That made my day! 😀

  34. DenG says:

He reminds me of a Boss (a la Godfather). I haven’t seen any of films in many years. Creeps me out. Little man with huge issues.

  35. TG says:

The only reason I hope this freak doesn’t get with another sciento freak is because there is always a chance for the child produced in the relationship. So Suri has a fighting chance of not getting sucked into the cult thanks to her mom, but if the mom is jus another Co$ freak what chance does the child have. Of course it didn’t work for Nicole Kidman but I think most agree things were different back then. Though I still wonder about that.

Is he supposed to be looking relaxed at dinner in Croatia? Because it isn’t working. He really is a zombi that has to be taught how to behave like a human with feelings and emotion. It is interesting when people like him are aware that they are different but they are smart enough to know they need to behave like the general population. The problem is he doesn’t understand how people really think since he has no reference point. He has been in that cult for so long he doesn’t know how to be human anymore. That is why everything he does is over the top. Even sitting at dinner he looks ridiculous.

  36. JRenee says:

So he COULD have had a COS$ wife but opted not to??? This article is probably just the tip of the iceberg for the COS$ b.s.

  37. Ruyana says:

I suspect MissCabbage supervises the auditioning process to make sure the “wife” doesn’t replace him as #1 in Tiny Tom’s heart.

  38. Really? says:

A lot of cults engage in mass suicide, such as Heaven’s Gate, Order of the Solar Temple, and Peoples Temple…why not Co$?

    • gg says:

The day the feds come for Miss Cabbage, he’ll take himself out and a few of his misguided minions. Just like Herr Hitler. These cons know when the jig is up, and they know what’s coming to them, and it ain’t good.

      • Izzy says:

May that day come very soon…

      • Julie says:

This is what I really worry about. The actual children that are with these idiots. Think Waco. I’ve always assumed that’s what the Feds are worried about. Gold Base has ammo & all. It’s also why I can never give TC some sort of “pass” on his behavior at this point. Does he not see the barbed wire? The place is a prison/paramilitary site.

  39. gg says:

“Other details will include a discussion of Katie and Tom’s pre-nuptual agreement”

    Nuptial. NuptIal. nuptials.

  40. Tansey says:

The fact that crap like this goes on in this country scares the ever lovin bejeezus out of me. We’re supposed to be a civilized society yet the government/cops/FBI/other authority that runs the country allow this kind of stuff to go on. It’s terrifying. I have a very impressionable teenage sister, and I have a habit of telling her all the horrors of the Co$ because I don’t want to ever get a call from my mom saying someone pulled my sister off the street and she joined this damn cult. They’re everywhere, and I don’t trust any of them.

  41. Julie says:

I saw this story yesterday and went to the VF website. The CO$ trolls were all over it the minute it hit the internet. They had to have known it was coming and tried their patented attack/defense. Didn’t work. If anyone has a moment to look at the comment sections on their website you can see how many comments were deleted. I saw some of them before deletion and they were the standard CO$ lines of BS. You know VF lawyers vetted all of this first. I bet Miscavage doesn’t even try the lawsuit route.

    • LAK says:

i have just come from there. All the co$ comments have been taken down. Shame. it would have been entertaining reading.

I do love though that VF have left all the anti-co$ comments.

Show those co$ trolls that VF isn’t going to do PR for their poster boy anymore.

Can’t wait for the oscars to see if TC receives invitation to VF party and if they do so, what time slot he will be given.

  42. Emma says:

Hot DAMN Katie is absolutely beautiful on the cover of Vanity Fair… WOW!

  43. Ennie says:

It is also appaling how badly they treat the women… Totally like objects. The way this Naz girl was dismissed is awful. How can they expect something good to come out of a thing like this. One thing is an arranged marriage where a person know what s/he is in it for, honestly.
And another is to cater to this poster boy, to treat him like a prince, to force people to love him, molding them to conform to the norm of his religion and his wishes… I bet he was not audited to purposefully love Naz…
That or reqlly the miscaviges keep TC on their side for their own purposes.
What a humiliating situation. Great that this info is out.

    • Izzy says:

^^ THIS, and they “moved her to Clearwater”?! So they moved her from either CA or CO to FL. Did she even have a choice? It sounds like she didn’t.

How is that NOT a crime? Like, interstate kidnapping? I’m no lawyer, but… oh wait a minute. I AM A LAWYER. Too bad she didn’t press charges when she blew. CDAs generally are not upheld when criminal actions are involved.

  44. Anna says:

    miscaige is a psychopath

Tom Cruise is hurting his child by uniting with this man.

  45. blonde on the dock says:

He looks good! Personally I think all these rumors are just that. Ridiculous rumors!! How can anyone believe this stuff?

    • Menehune says:

We can because “this stuff” because it’s been corroborated by at least three different sources. Here’s a link to Paul Hggis’s confirmation. http://www.showbiz411.com/2012/09/02/oscar-winner-paul-haggis-on-tom-cruise-scientology-girlfriend/comment-page-1#comment-116801

And here’s another thought for you: What if the entheta is true?

    • LAK says:

Vanity Fair doesn’t deal in rumours, nor does Maureen Orth. She is a very serious and respected journalist.

    • Jaded says:

@blonde on the dock – either you’re a Co$ troll or you haven’t been reading anything on the break-up and the horrors that go on in Scientology. Please don’t post comments like that unless you’re willing to do a little research. Most of the posters on this site are very smart and well-read on lots of current issues.

      • blonde on the dock says:

No I am not a troll nor have I done “research” on the demise of this marriage. I simply dont believe everything I read. And the little I’ve read on this topic comes off a little bit like the Sheppard case of 1954, Cleveland. That’s just my opinion. I’m not out to insult the intelligence of anyone.

      • Izzy says:

@ blonde – you should do some more research. The Co$ has lost several lawsuits, including one for wrongful death, where criminal charges should have been involved but weren’t. Also, the people who have left Co$ all have information to share – not identical so that it sounds like they planned it, but certainly consistent. More than one person has stated that TC has, and still does, benefit from the slave labor that goes on there.

    • Jaded says:

@ blonde – what does the Sheppard case have to do with Scientology and Tom Cruise being complicit in the use of unpaid, overworked and mistreated labour? A murder case from 1954 where Sheppard was most likely guilty? It’s like comparing apples to fish – just do some current reading on Co$. Read Tony Ortega’s column in The Village Voice. Read Mark Headley’s book “Blown For Good”. This isn’t just glib rumour-mongoring, it’s well researched and documented fact. You’ll never look at Tom Cruise in the same light again.

      • blonde on the dock says:

The Sheppard case was a mockery of justice created by journalistic sensationalism. Sheppard was found innocent after spending ten years in prison for a murder he did not commit. For some reason people wanted to believe what was written. They didnt care about scientific evidence or facts. Where is the proof of Tom Cruise auditioning for a wife in Croatia? He just came out of a public and embarrassing divorce. I dont support Scientology. It sounds like a pile of shit but so do some of the writers!

  46. Ennie says:

Paul Haggis, ex scientologist awarded director has confirmed this, he seems to be friends with Naz, who took years to try to mend her “inadequAcy”, and finally left the organization about 2 years ago. It seems that overcoming her feelings of shame has taken her years. How damaging are they? Preying on the vulnerable?
Good for her, and for KH, even if she is going to be tied to Tiny tom for life.

As I read in another forum. tom is little in more ways that one.

  47. Seagulls says:

Can anyone speak to what deprogramming therapy is like for people just out of co$ and other cults?

  48. Melissa says:

I don’t get this story. It says that this Naz woman felt like this might be an arranged marriage from the start. Then it goes on to say that she was totally in love with him, but spent 2-3 hours every day purging negative thoughts about him. What? I know Naz didn’t speak directly to Orth for the story, so everything is secondhand, but it sounds like Orth didn’t do a very good job getting the story straight.

That’s not to say I don’t believe the gist of the story, which is that CO$ and TC auditioned for his wife, and this Naz woman was one of the ones who was up for the “role”. I just wish there was more clarity. Granted, I’m not a cult member, but if I felt that I was being pushed into an arranged marriage, I wouldn’t suddenly fall in love with the guy.

As an aside, I actually do think TC looks pretty good in these photos, with the exception of the VF cover. Oh Tommy, only Baryshnikov could pull that off! The Naz woman is beautiful. And I think Katie really did fall head over heels for him at first.

    • Anne de Vries says:

I think the ‘arranged marriage’ thoughts came later. And I can see how somebody – especially a scientologist, to whom TC is a hero – could get swept up in the Tom! Cruise! Loves! Me! whirlwind.

It’s possible to make somebody fall in love with you, especially if you don’t care about all that ‘love me for me’ crap and just outright manipulate the target’s emotions.

I bet he can be really charming and say all the things you want to hear – plus he probably had access to her auditing files, so he knew all her secrets, doubts, deepest fears and insecurities. He’s an actor with the resources (including backup team) to create a reality for you where you’re the most special person on Earth. I’m not surprised she fell for it, and I’m not surprised Katie fell for it.

  49. Bea says:

“Pre-nuptual” is not a word. “Prenuptial” is. You keep making that mistake.

  50. Menehune says:

Anyone wanna bet VF wont be able to get him for an 8th cover?

    • N says:

So what! Vanity Fair don’t give a sh*t Hollywood has enough other Stars.

    • LAK says:

It’s the other way around. He won’t be able to buy a VF cover anymore. They were his go-to media lap dogs. They are very publicly repudiating him with this story.

A clear indication of his current status as far as VF is concerned.

    • CF98 says:

I’m surprised they’re turning on him maybe they are hoping for a Katie/Suri cover “Free at Last”

  51. cw says:

TOM CRUISE – you are DONE, sir! DONE.
this story was the last straw! no one will support your movies now. i could have believed that you were being blackmailed by cos, but not now buddy

    crazy m’effer

    • CF98 says:

The only way Tom’s career is over is when he dies fact as long as he makes good movies people will come because they don’t care about how crappy one’s personal life is.

And I did think Katie mistook a deep infatuation for love and by the time she realized what a colossal mistake she made it was too late.

If it was a mere business arrangement she wouldn’t have shown her depression as the years passed like she did. I also doubt Tom would’ve married her if she had alterior motives beyond being Mrs Tom Cruise.

  52. TG says:

I also think it is so creapy that his mom and sisters follow him around like he is Jesus Christ and they are his disciples. So if he stopped being a sciento freak would they stop too? How would that work when your gravy train jumps ship? Do you have to jump with him?

Oh yes, so I just looked it up and the term the Co$ uses to defend itself against anyone who dares speak against them is “disgruntled apostates”. So I guess everyone who disagrees with the Co$ is a liar.

  53. Francesca says:

He is a freak and so is that church. Send Iyanla Van Zant over there and let her press her breasticals on him. He needs a healing…an exorcism…something!

  54. Jaded says:

I always thought Cruise was a sort of dumb guy, a talented actor and a hyper-manic, egotistical guy but dumb nevertheless, so he let himself get sucked into this stupid, evil cult. However now, after all that has come out about Co$, i.e. Miscavige’s violence, the slave camp practices, the blown members being followed and intimidated, the squirrels, etc. etc., I think Cruise is just plain f*cking evil and power hungry. He is pathologically one-track minded when it comes to Co$ and not only did he drink the Kool-aid, he helped make it.

    • Izzy says:

“Cruise is just plain f*cking evil and power hungry. He is pathologically one-track minded when it comes to Co$ and not only did he drink the Kool-aid, he helped make it.”

      Well said!

  55. dorothy says:

    Again, What a nut!

  56. dorothy says:

Sidenote…because all of this has come out, his career is over.

  57. Christine says:

    Forget the Scientology.

Let’s just hope the next wife has a more interesting shoe collection!

  58. Mr.Smurf says:

Just read that Michael Clark Duncan is dead at 54…RIP.

    • islandwalker says:

Yes, we need a thread to honor Michael Clark Duncan. Such an unexpected death. He seemed like a gentle giant. RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

  59. dee says:

When i was younger and in LA for a bit one screenwriter told me stories about Tom Cruise that he’d heard – most of them involved his gay liaisons. I said at the time (this was a long time ago) that it was silly and just a rumor – i kinda wonder now if he was right.

  60. erika says:

god he’s a pig. a wimpy pig at that. can’t even do his own dirty work. midget pig.

well, i’d be dead. for sure. IF i was a hot celeb, who CO$ had picked and it went that way…there’s no way in HELL i’d be able to keep my mouth shut! i’m a justice fighter, and this kills me. I can’t stand injustice, hypocrisy, and all for a ‘date can wrong’ basically…is sick.

but, i’d be dead. because CO$ would be on my scent better than i can smell my own ass (?? that doesn’t make sense!) but you get it.

    how can you keep silent…?

    CO$= INJUSTICE…

I hope Cruise gets his in the end. Is there anybody out there who’s an actual FAN of his???

  61. palermo says:

I distinctly remember hearing he was sterile, way back when he was married to Mimi Rogers. They had no kids, he had none with Nicole, I will never believe he all of a sudden was able to father Suri.

    • LAK says:

That was an urban legend of a rumour caused by public re-interpretation of an interview that Mimi gave to playboy magazine back in 1993. What she said was this:

”Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk…he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument.” Her own instrument, she added, ”needed tuning.”

Sounds to me like he wasn’t interested in sex = childless marriage.

Ditto same in Marriage with Kidman. reinforced by a leaked phonecall between them. transcripts available online which shows a lack of couple time.

Further Kidman has had several miscarriages whilst married to Tom. The fact that she had to use a surrogate to have her kids implies an inability to carry to term, but that’s purely speculative. She had the last miscarried embryo DNA tested because he was denying that it was his because it happened during their divorce, plus there was a rumour that she was cheating on him with Ewan McGregor. Guess what? TC turned out to be the daddy.

Also, something like 90% of sterile men have that condition due to low sperm count. the other 10% is defective sperm. If he isn’t in the 10%, it isn’t within the realms of impossibility for him to have bio kids because IVF solves that problem nicely.

  62. Kim says:

No wonder Katie had to initiate a Ninja divorce…Good God, I don’t know where to begin…I’ve been a huge Tom Cruise fan for so long, but no more..what a complete letdown. I knew COS was crazy but I was in denial regarding the arranged marriage stories….but now, holy crap. The entire thing reads like something from ‘Rosemary’s Baby’.What I really don’t understand is how someone like Tom, who exemplified the best of humanity, could envelope himself in something so devoid of humanity.

  63. Michelle says:

The most horrifying part of this is that Tom Cruise is more disturbed than anyone realized..

  64. Terri says:

I remember reading on some psychic/prediction website a couple of years ago, that Tom would leave COS amid some money scandal…..so weird that these COS stories are now heating up. I keep wondering how long before Cruise has a meltdown..

  65. nordicgoddess says:

watch the movie “bowfinger” by steve martin. mind f@#k all right…

  66. Geminize61 says:

This is slightly off topic, but here goes- don’t you find it very odd in the 30 plus years that “Tiny Tom” Cruise has been an actor, he RARELY talks about his family, **AHEM** blood relatives? But on the other hand, TC is more than eager to talk about the CO$, be seen with many elite entertainers, etc. just to fuel his ego?

IMHO, once a man allows a group of know-nothing people to dictate each and every move he makes, he has earned the moniker MINO (man in name only).
