Back in June of this year, rumors about Shakira’s phantom baby bump began to percolate throughout gossip blogs and tabloids in the English and Spanish-speaking entertainment world. Some Spanish-language tabs even claimed outright that Shakira was pregnant with Gerard Pique’s baby. Well… I don’t know if this is the same pregnancy, or if those reports were BS and this is a completely new pregnancy. But whatever it is, Shakira is confirming it now! She’s preggo.
Yes, Shakira is pregnant. The singer, 35, confirmed the news in a post on her website Wednesday, explaining that she needs to cancel a work commitment as a result.
“As some of you may know, [boyfriend] Gerard [Piqué] and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days,” she writes.
“This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival … I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding. Big kiss!”
Shakira and Piqué, 25, central defender for FC Barcelona, confirmed their relationship in March 2011. This will be the first child for both.
On Tuesday, NBC announced that she will temporarily replace Christina Aguilera as a judge on season four of The Voice.
The way she’s talking about canceling stuff and “as some of you may know” makes me think that’s further along than many people think. Right? Right. Maybe. I also found out that a random Colombian tabloid claims that Shakira and Gerard already know they’re having a boy, and they already have a name picked out: Ulicito! Like, Little Ulysses? The Colombian tabloids also claim Shakira has Toxoplasmosis and that’s why she’s being extra-careful during her pregnancy, and that she’s due in “early 2013”. Which would make her about five months along now? Perhaps.
As for Shakira’s gig as host/judge on the next season of The Voice… the pregnancy thing makes it more interesting. She might want to do it because she wants to stay in one place once she has the baby. But I can’t see how she would want to be in LA for months at a time when Gerard is based in Europe, correct? So… I tend to think that while Shakira might be saying she’ll do The Voice for a season, she probably won’t do the gig permanently, and even now she might back out.

I’m Spanish, i have lived in Barcelona and I have to say that Gerard Piqué is well known for being a very unfaithful boyfriend and also is very…wild, he loves hanging out with different girls… Not too long ago, the former coach of his team ordered him to stay one week a month in his parents house in order to keep him under control.
That’s why there have been news about Shakira being jealous I think, the guy is pretty famous for that stuff here… Don’t know if these news reach the english-language tabloids but here in Spain are very often in the magazines

No we don’t get all the news about Shakira and her paramours in the US, at least not mainstream gossip media. She is my obsession, or at least the Shakira pre-she wolf days. He doesn’t look like he would be faithful so hope she has fun putting up with his sh*t. She is such a gorgeous free-spirited woman why would she tolerate that from him? Just knowing their age diffrence and his type I figured he would be stepping out on her within 5 years if they even make it that long as a couple. I never liked that Argentinian guy she was with. He seemed like a real loser, but maybe he gave up a lot to be with her, just like women do for their men. If that is the case I feel bad for him.
Few years ago there was a picture of him with one of his partners looking very intimate… it was Ibraimovich I think, here in Spain it was absolutely mainstream, the picture was everywhere… and I also know people who ensures he likes boys as well… I really hope Shakira knows what she’s doing…

Yes, I’m pretty sure I read that news few times during the last year, or something about Shakira leaving Barcelona for a while because of he cheated on her… that can be true, but anyway, I don’t trust or read spanish press because it is rubbish most of it… so who knows… he is a famous player, and i’m not talking just about football… but i don’t really think Shakira is that stupid to forgive him several times… o maybe she is…

I am so happy for Shakira, I always thought she is such a sweet lady! That being said, I have always kind of wondered about people who go from one long term relationship with no marriage and the next person they are with [for like 5 mins or whatever] BOOM! suddenly they are knocked up and married.. Is that person really the one or are you just that interested in having a family/being married? Maybe her ex didn’t want that and she did, but i am just always like hmmmm… In any case it’s not like her baby won’t be well taken care of, she looks like she has a lot of love to give.
