2008’s Baby Mama is a chaotic film, but one of the funniest bits is where Sigourney Weaver, who was then in her late 50s, played a surrogacy agency lady who kept getting pregnant effortlessly. Some women really are like that, and some women are helped along by fertility treatments and IVF. Well, Hilary Swank surprised everyone in 2022 when she announced her first pregnancy at the age of 48. In 2023, she welcomed twins Aya and Ohm and people were happy for her. Well… she’s pregnant again. At the age of 52.
52-year-old Hilary Swank’s got a bun in the oven … according to the announcement she made online.
The actress took to social media to post a video of herself, her husband, and their twins dancing in the dark dressed as glow-in-the-dark stick figures.
When Hilary turned around, she revealed a stick figure baby in her stomach … signaling she and Philip Schneider are expecting their third kid.
She captioned the cute clip … “A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December.”
The “Million Dollar Baby” star gave birth to her twins, Aya and Ohm, just 3 years ago … and it looks like she’s gearing up for baby number 3!
It’s a lot, to have three-year-old twins and a baby on the way at the age of 52. But by all indications, Hilary is in good health and she’s got plenty of money and help, so hopefully everything will be just fine. I mean… she’ll be 70 years old when her third child graduates from high school. It’s a lot. Her husband is in his 50s too, which honestly concerns me more than Hilary’s age. Good luck to them, I have the feeling they’ll need it!

All the best to her.
I hope they’re all happy and healthy.
I’ve been looking into family tree stuff and for whatever reason the program summarizes how old the parents were when the person was born. One of my ancestors had a 51 year old mother (was probably in a family of 13+ kids, 200 years ago). So it is a possible thing, but omg. Being pregnant now at 45, never mind 52, would be my nightmare.
People used to marry young and have babies till they didn’t no more. That farm ain’t gonna work itself. In this world now though it makes sense to wait until you are absolutely certain you can give the child a secure life. Heck, having a second or third act in life as a family is as valid as any other life choice.
Both my grandmothers had passels of kids–one had 11, one had 7. And they didn’t have that many specifically to work the farm, they had that many because there was no reliable birth control at the time. It was merely a bonus that you can have them slop the hogs, get the eggs in the morning, go out to the well to fetch water, etc.
My grandparents lived in a city, no farm for them, but had 10 kids (8 survived to adulthood, plus 1 still birth at around 7 months). My dad said Grandma was a good Catholic and my grandfather was a horny bastard
My parents had just two kids, but as the oldest, they really should have stopped at one. 😂
No birth control and before vaccines, childhood mortality was a sad reality; You had more kids because you might lose some.
Y’all the farm thing was a bit of a joke and also a reflection of my own ancestry. Of course women in the city also had more kids than they wanted due to lack of birth control. My farm great-grandma had 9 kids and outlived a third of them. She was a hearty woman. But her real dream in life was to be a teacher. I know because I spoke to her many times before she died at just over 100 years old.
@beaniebean – Always good to see ya on my posts!
🙂
To ordinary people, this is the stuff of nightmares. But let’s not forget that celebrities like Hilary Swank are not ordinary people. They have the resources to have babies at 52. Possibly the resources for endless rounds of fertility treatments and IVF. I wish them well, but they are not us.
she froze her eggs a long time ago. and I’m sure they have tons of household help.
Rich, healthy, a ton of help and we’ll be living to our 90’s most probably so, HOPE THEY HAVE A HAPPY LIFE!!!
@douches – that’s the thing right? We’ll be living to our 90s so might as well make it the life we want. I’m Hilary’s age and can’t image being pregnant or caring for babies (I also have at least 10 years till retirement eligibility and work gets me plenty tired) but as I said above there’s no harm in having a third act in your life. If you earned an Oscar young, kept working, and have the money, time, and desire to raise babies in your 50s and 60s, have at it. Plenty of grandparents end up caring for babies with fewer resources.
Preach!!!!
What a trooper. I had a baby at 39 and am exhausted (and also love that kid more than anything ever). I didn’t have any other children younger than that but I hear from women who have multiple children over a longer time span that it hits different as you get older.
Even with incredible levels of wealth, this sounds exhausting. But she’s very fit so it probably isn’t exhausting for her. Felt I should add that in case anyone thinks I’m speaking for her, which I’m not.
I’m happy she’s happy, but I would be… so pissed.
As a (now adult) child of elder parents, I can say that it wasn’t fun to have everyone think that my parents were my grandparents. Also, as I got older they had less and less energy or desire to do things with me that my friends parents did. I do realize that 52 now is different from 52 in my time but biology is still a reality, what’s the likelihood that Hilary will be around to see this child marry and have children?
This is my only concern too. My parents were a decent amount older than my friends’, they were essentially 2 generations ahead of me (end of silent generation/mid-boomer vs millienial) which as predicted had a lot of issues with differing life views etc. Having to deal with the loss of a parent at a much younger age than I was expecting in part due to old age is also not something I would wish on anyone. It also impacts your ability to build your own life when your parents are older as you are becoming truly independent. It’s hard. At least the kids will have each other, hopefully.
There’s no guarantee the child will want to either marry or have children. And there’s no guarantee that a young parent of a child will always be there for them: a friend of ours died of cancer recently at 28, leaving a small baby. It’s their choice. It wouldn’t be mine. Which is fine.
@Anna Maria, I am very sorry for your loss, that is heartbreaking for all concerned. Life can be very cruel, I truly wish you all well.
Obviously, there are myriad possibilities of what the future might hold for anyone and definitely no guarantees. Marriage or having children is not what I am speaking about, it is the things that are out of anyone’s hands rather than events down to personal choice. I’m just speaking from my own personal experience about how having older parents has significantly affected my life – I’m not saying there is a right way or a wrong way here. I’m sure they made these decisions after a great deal of thought.
I wonder of she reached out to Chad Lowe. Not sure if their split was amicable or not.
I think amicable or not, they’ve been divorced almost 20 years so probably not.
I read a lot of snarky comments on another site about how dare she announce this right after her ex-husband’s daughter committed suicide. She’s due in December, she kept it under the radar for quite awhile. Maybe she got spotted and felt forced to reveal it now.
IIRC She had a hard time getting pregnant and was surprised by the twins! She did freeze her eggs when she was 37.
Good luck to her!
I’d kill to get the plastic surgeon she has. There’s no way in hell she looks 52. I’d say 36 to 38.
