This week’s issue of Star has a cover story that alleges Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are on the verge of divorce. Tori and Dean have four children together, and the family has featured prominently on several years of reality television. I like Tori a lot. I wasn’t crazy about her during her “90210” years, but she’s carved out a pretty lucrative career for herself in the aftermath, and I admire her for not merely living off daddy’s millions (even if he did get her started in the biz in the first place).
Anyway, this story claims that Tori and Dean have been on the rocks for awhile, and that Tori has been suspicious for years about Dean seeing other women. If that were true, I’m not sure why she’d keep making babies with him, including the last child, which she got pregnant with six weeks after giving birth to her third kid. Star also claims that Dean has been very critical of Tori’s lingering pregnancy weight this last time around, and I hope that’s not true. I mean, he has no room to talk at all. Here’s part of the story from the Mail, which Tori has already contacted to issue a denial:
Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott have hit back at claims their marriage is on the brink of collapse.
The reality TV couple, who have been married since 2006 and have four children together, were reported by America’s Star magazine to be heading towards a $300million divorce amid cheating fears and his criticism of her weight.
The tabloid claims Dean, 46, is also after his 39-year-old wife and mother-in-law Candy Spelling’s fortune – estimated to be around $300million – and plans to use the couple’s four children as leverage to secure a big payout.
But a spokesperson for Tori strongly refuted the claims, telling MailOnline on Wednesday the rumours as “ridiculous and not true.”
Indeed, the couple certainly paint a blissful picture of marriage and parenthood on their reality show Tori & Dean.
Star magazine alleges Tori doesn’t trust her husband, and quotes a source as saying she fears he has “been seeing two different women for years.”
The source continues: “She’s so suspicious, she monitors his email and put a tracker on his phone. She even hired a private investigator to follow him!”
Dean is also accused of putting Tori down about her weight and the fact that his wife, who recently gave birth to their fourth child, is having trouble shifting the weight gained during her pregnancy.
“Dean told her she looks fat,” said the source. “He thinks she’s being lazy.”

I’ve never watched Tori’s reality show, so I have no idea what kind of personality Dean projects, but that would be pretty low of him to make fun of Tori’s weight after four pregancies, two of which were back to back. I don’t think he even has a job outside of their joint reality television stuff, so how would he even manage to sneak off and get busy with other women? I guess some guys could always manage to cheat if they really wanted to. Then again, this story doesn’t exactly allege that Dean has been cheating — just that Tori is suspicious. I think at the point where you actually hire a private investigator to follow your spouse is the point where you might as well admit you’re on the road to divorce. But I still hope this story isn’t true for the sake of their children.
As for the financial angle, we’ve heard stories before such as the 2009 Star story that said Dean didn’t sign a prenup, but Tori didn’t inherit any money from her dad anyway. Dean was supposedly livid about the omission in Aaron Spelling’s will, so I don’t know. Maybe their marriage has always been based on money, but if they’ve been doing these reality shows together, then the money would have been earned together.

This one guy I had a crush on in high school is always chasing me around and he still has a cute face but the body…..man, he’d look amazing if he just lost 25 lbs..maybe 30? As a Canadian, I would like to apologize to the U.S. for foisting Dean “Douchebag” McDermott on your country. Just ask his first wife about what a great guy he is! He’s a smarmy, self-centered narcissist who thought he’d found his pot of gold when he found Tori. I think she should dump him and take the four kids to live with Grandma Candy and they can all do crafts happily ever after!

Tori and Dean each have their own reality shows and web sites. I happen to like this couple so I follow them both. They are always posting blogs/photos and videos of the family. I don’t know, if they are on the rocks then that seems a pretty elaborate move to make it look like your marriage and family life is wonderful. The kids are really cute and seem happy. And this story is from Star so I’m not going to put much stock in it. I’ve often wondered to myself why I like Tori and Dean so much when they basically began their relationship in the same way that Leann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian did (with the exception of a pregnant wife although Dean and his wife had just adopted). I think it’s because they didn’t treat their exes like crap when they split and then remarried. They don’t spend all their time in the press bashing the exes, etc. They all just moved on. BUT there’s not getting around the fact that they were both married when they got together. So, if there is a kernel of truth to Tori’s worry that Dean will stray, it’s justified.

I believe she inherited something from her father, and it was what us regular folk would consider a nice tidy sum. But she didn’t get MILLIONS. The bulk went to her mother.
I read she got $600,000 in cash and then a series of trusts that kick in as she gets older.
I did also hear rhat she gets $10 million lump sum for each child at the time the child is born
Miss m tori has been secretive about her actual Inheritance after her father passed because of the complicated relationship she has with her mother. She didn’t initially inherit anything and lived like the rest of us until she and her mother came to an agreement. If I remember correctly is because her mother ruled over the will. Tori and dean continue to make money through various means (reality shows, books, a jewelry line, a boutique and even a garage sale once upon a time) this leads me to believe that her settlement is tied up in trusts.
Dean is an abhorrent person. He up and left his wife after they had thir own children and went through the difficult process of adopting a child. He’s a horrible human being. He wanted fame and fortune and found it with Tori…well fame anyways. He was livid when she was left out her dad’s will because he thought that was his meal ticket. He’s disgusting.

I think he’s gross and possibly cheating (after all, he did ditch his previous family for her). But this doesn’t make much sense, if he’s all about the money – she doesn’t have that much I don’t think, and if he’s eyeing up Candy’s money, he’d have to stick around until Tori inherited.
I agree, there might be some truth to this but the money angle doesn’t make sense.
It makes sense because being with her is his only real way of making money. He wouldn’t have a show without her, so even without Aaron Spelling’s money in play, being married to her is his only hope of making lots of money.
The thought is that he *assumed* Tori would inherit millions from her father, but it didn’t turn out that way, so they are churning out reality shows and books. His gamble didn’t pay off.
OTOH, Dean certainly helped to earn any money they now have, so he should be entitled to half.

I’ve watch their reality show & have to come clean & say that I love tori. She is far from the Paris or casey johnson. She has a good heart & while dean isn’t my cup of tea I really feel that he wouldn’t cheat on her. They are a lovely family.
Agreed. I was ambivalent about her until I read her first book and I loved it! Loved how she spoke about the affair matter-of-factly and gave some more insight into her relationship with her mom. Since then I’ve had a major soft spot for Tori.
I really hope this isn’t true…I like them as a couple and I love Tori…she’s sweet.

I’ve never paid much attention to either of them (Donna was my least fave character on 90210). But, Dean was just on a celeb cooking show and he seemed like a pretty nice & genuine guy, and he talked so lovingly about his family, his concerns about the new baby, and the charity he was competing for which helps preemie babies. He & Johnny Weir became fast friends. 🙂 He kinda won me over.
I think Donna was everybody’s least favorite character. But I could be wrong.
Hi! I saw that show too. I never really liked either of them much before I saw it. But I changed my mind. He seemed like a pretty good guy. And I never thought I would say that. (But….They portray what they want.) I was routing for him, and I was glad he won. He wants to be a chef and he seemed like he knew what he was doing in the kitchen.
I did find it a bit odd that Tori was not there at the end when he won though…..Could mean something …Or nothing!
Any way….I hope it’s not true and they stay together.
Donna and Andrea were my least favorites. Gabrielle Catreres (Andrea) was 29 years old and playing a 16 year old high school student. She was clearly much older than 16 and it was too hard for me to suspend disbelief when she was in a scene.
Tori wasn’t at the finale because it was filmed when she was pregnant with the fourth kid and in the hospital. So she had a valid reason

Ehhh…I’m not so sure I would say “if he cheated on someone to be with you, then he’ll certainly cheat on you.”
Sometimes cheating isn’t about being with someone else, but about being unhappy with the person you’re in a relationship with and being too much of a coward to end things.
It doesn’t necessarily mean the person is a chronic cheater, although they COULD be. I think it just depends on the person and the situation.
Cheating requires a lot of justification on the part of the cheater (I’m unhappy, I deserve this, my partner is not meeting my needs …). And justifications just get easier the next time around.
I think cheaters continue to cheat because they’re unhappy with themselves and they delude themselves into thinking that their partner is the source of unhappiness.
I think that *CAN* be the case, it’s just not automatically so.
One of my best friend’s met her man when he was in a very serious relationship. He broke up with the girl he was living with and left her for my friend. They quickly moved in together and have now been married for 5 years.
Don’t get me wrong: I would NOT be able to trust a guy that did that, but that’s just me. I would also never touch a guy that had a girlfriend so…..eh.
My point is that I caution against making blanket statements about every relationship. I think people are pretty complicated and there are a lot of variables that need to taken into consideration.
I didn’t like her on 90210 but I like her now. I’ve always hated Dean because of the way him and Tori got together, which I realize is unfair because Tori had an equal part in that. But he just LOOKS shady as hell.
She looks great for having had 4 kids incredibly close together.
She does weigh A LOT more than she ever did but she looked AWFUL being super thin. I think this is the best she has ever looked. Her face has totally changed. She looks quite pretty!

I hope this isn’t true..Tori got on my nerves in the past but now I like her and her children are so cute and fun, also it always seemed like Dean really loved her..it would be a real pity.
So I just had to comment on this story. I don’t know if its true he calls her fat and lazy. But my ex husband did for years after I had one kid. Even tho I lost nearly 80 lbs after my pregnancy, he would still harp on my stomach and legs. Men can be assholes to their women, all while claiming to love you for you! That’s why he’s my ex!

It’s weird. I had a really poor opinion of her before I watched their reality show. But I found myself impressed with how “normal” she is (given her background). She works HARD and has said numerous times that all she wanted was a family of her own, which is rare for celebrities. And Dean seems like a decent guy, so this story seems like a stretch but you never know. Reality tv is like marriage kryptonite.

I was just going to post about how hard she seems to work… as far as celebrity work goes. I used to watch their show sometimes, years ago when they were doing the B&B thing. I’ve caught bits and pieces since then, and it seems to me like she really pushes herself to be a good mom and still fulfill all of her professional commitments. I actually like and respect her.
Dean… well, I’ve always gone back and forth with my opinion… LOL It does bother me how he left his wife. He didn’t just ‘cheat’. They had just gone through the process of adopting a baby! He was making a lifetime-type movie with Tori, and the wife was totally blind-sided. Anyway… I’ve found myself liking him sometimes, and then remembering I don’t like him! Either way, I hope this rumor isn’t true, and that they are okay.
If she inherits any money from her father or mother, Dean is not entitled to that money as it is not considered a marital asset.
Any money they earned as a couple would be split 50/50 since they live in California.
He might even be entitle to spousal support since she has an higher earning capacity.

Dean recently appeared on Celebrity Chef and won some money for the charity Miracle Babies. While he was on it, he spoke very highly of Tori and his kids. (I realize that could be meaningless, but at least he didn’t pull a Ben Affleck.)
He also said he was starting his own business called Gourmet Dad. So, it sounds to me like he’s going to be making some of his own money.
I get the impression that Dean has tried to have his own work, and contribute for their entire marriage. Whatever he is, I don’t think he is just a lazy bum, trying to mooch off his wife. I haven’t watched them consistently over the years, but I do remember different times when Dean was up for small acting jobs, and he really seemed to want them, you know? One time, I think she was quite pregnant, and he had to be away for a few days. He was torn about leaving her, but he REALLY seemed to want the job, and was proud to be getting some work on his own. Tori didn’t want him to go out of town, but seemed to understand it was something he needed and wanted, so she wanted it for him.
He mooched off his first wife. Don’t know why he wouldn’t do the same with the second.
The only time I’ve ever seen Dean McDermott was in the Kevin Costner Western “Open Range,” and I thought he was remarkably good in a small role. It’s a shame he hasn’t worked more.
I used to not like Tori, but she’s grown on me over the years….in talk shows she seems so sweet and not fakey-sweet. I doubt this story is true, though. And WTF is up with Dean’s lopsided eyes? I do think Tori needs to change the color of her hair…she was on The Love Boat when she was a kid and definitely a dark brunette. If she wants to go blond, she needs a softer hue.
I really don’t think he would call her fat. He has plenty of faults but I don’t think verbal abuse is one of them. I’ve watched their reality show each season and he does come off as being very selfish. He defines himself as an actor but I think he’s only booked one acting gig. He’s very focused on his “hobbies” while she stays home and watches the kids, plans crafts, bakes, cooks, writes books, works on her children’s clothing line,desings jewelry, sells goods on QVC (with children in tow),acts (again the children go with her) plans parties, etc, etc, etc. He is nice with his kids when he’s there but I don’t see him as a devoted father and husband. I think he’s much more concerned about how much fun he can have.

You are so right. People forget that Tori had Dean’s ex-wife kicked out of her own awards show in Canada, where she (Mary Jo Eustace, Dean’s ex-wife) was the celebrity. Tori lied about a phony restraining order so that she could humiliate Mary Jo. Mary Jo got the last laugh when a DJ’s wife threw a drink in Tori’s face and the crowd booed Tori. That’s the only reason Tori stopped what she was doing. Dean’s ex-wife was a celebrity in her own right and Canadian press wouldn’t let Tori off the hook.
Also, Dean and Mary Jo were in the midst of adopting a baby girl together when Dean and Tori started their affair. Tori talked Dean into abandoning the adoption and Mary Jo was left in the middle of an international adoption mess, with the US government refusing to allow her to leave to go back to Canada because of the red tape.

This is such a horrible story. If you watch their show you can see he loves her dearly. She may have said she was insecure before, personally I think she said it more for a storyline on the show than reality, but it is clear they have a strong marriage and Dean adores Tori and their children. Now if the story was about LeAnn & Eddie, I would believe it. People may not like what Dean did to his first wife, but he does seem like a good man.
Tori DID start off with some LeAnnish behavior at first but then stopped. So, if they divorce and/or he’s cheating on her, I’m not going to feel sorry for her.
Dean was horrible to his first wife and chided her about any pregnancy weight that lingered. He is a real jerk, so I have no problem believing he’d do the same thing to Tori.
When Dean left his first wife they were not quite finished adopting their daughter, and she almost lost her as a result. Then Tori went after the first wife, including making several comments that were clearly digs at her infertility issues. If Dean is cheating on Tori, I won’t lose any sleep over it.

For what it’s worth, in California an inheritance is considered separate property as long as she didn’t co-mingle it with their joint funds. She wouldn’t have even needed a pre-nup if she’s smart enough to keep those inherited funds separate. He may go after the money as a virtual blackmail to keep private information private, but legally he’s not entitled to any of her Father’s money.

I don’t watch their shows but as for him criticizing her weight, he looks as if he has gained more (and not from being pregnant like her). She actually looks better with a bit more weight – she was always way too skinny and unhealthy looking and her face is much more attractive with more weight on her body. I never liked how they got together though. Why don’t women realize that if someone cheats on their wife to be with you they will sooner or later cheat on you as well?
