Does Anne Hathaway seem less annoying in the wake of Taylor Swift’s implosion?

Here are some photos of Anne Hathaway and her “cherishing,” husband Adam Shulman. They finally came back to NYC, which is where they call home (although I’m pretty sure Anne has a home in LA too). They did this nice little walk for the paparazzi. Perhaps Anne is gloating – “You thought I was annoying? How much better do I look since Taylor Swift’s implosion, huh?”

I wonder if this is Anne’s new strategy after spending the week after the Oscars as “the most annoying woman in America”? There was a backlash against the Hathaway Backlash, of course, and now the whole thing is so “meta” I don’t even know if it’s cool to hate on her or if it’s cool to ironically adore her. I think Anne’s strategy is to shut up, arrange some happy, chill-looking pap walks and then return in a few months with an interview in which she references the backlash but doesn’t dwell on it too much. Perhaps a pregnancy announcement would help? Baby talk (literally and substantially) dominated much of Anne’s Oscar campaign, and it will be very interesting to see if she does decide to get knocked up this year. I don’t know that it will prove anything either way – I believe she wants a baby. I believe she adores her husband. But I think she was so in-your-face about it because of the Oscar campaign.

Speaking of possible pregnancy, The Enquirer’s Mike Walker has a small item about Anne “picking at her alfalfa sprouts” at the Chateau Marmont last week. Apparently, she ordered a big veggie burger and alfalfa sprout salad on the side, and she never touched her burger. She only ate a little bit of salad. So… pregnancy weirdness, or just typical actress crap?

PS… I love the combo of that great navy coat and her gingham gloves.

    Did they coordinate their ensembles?

  2. lflips says:

No, she’s just as annoying as ever.

  3. poppy says:

they share the same spirit animal, phony pony.

  4. Kaye says:

    Answer: no. Still annoying.

  5. Summer says:

    I don’t know. but It’s a stiff competition.

    • Rhea says:

Me too. Now if you ask me which one is more annoying between Hathaway and Handler…I would know my answer right away! 😀

  6. Anna says:

But .. but .. her gloves match his scarf …

  7. gogoGorilla says:

    Nope. Still annoying.

Her husband pings my gaydar big time.

  8. searching4grace says:

I have a tablecloth that looks just like his scarf. Seriously. I’m wondering if I should go root around and look for it now.

  9. Hope says:

Why are they so coordinated?!?!?! OMG, Anne. Stop. Please. You’re embarrassing.

    • T.C. says:

Most girls stop trying to wear matchy clothes with their guy after middle school. Annie never got the memo. LMAO. I always say the Hollywood couples who go out of their way to show off their lovey-dovey relationship in front if the media break up the soonest. Just sayin.

      • Bijlee says:

Lol go to Korea, china, or Japan. Couples wear outfits together there. They sell them all the time and are quite popular.

    • mollination says:

Tis might be the only time I stick up for her on purpose, but my ex-boyfriend and I used to show up EVERYWHERE in some kinda weirdly similiar/matching outfit, and it was never on purpose. It’d always be like “grey top, dark pants, brown shows” or “white t-shirt, blue sweater, brown pants/bottoms” etc. It was a tad eerie. We didn’t plan it — I guess great minds think alike and all that good stuff.

  10. Hakura says:

I’d like the gloves if they didn’t match his scarf. That’s more than a little obnoxious (which now that I think about it, does fit).

She’s still annoying, & I hate that pregnancy has become such a big ‘it thing’, entertainers use to make themselves ‘look better’ or be ‘talked about’. It’s something we ALL deal with, as human beings. Get OVER it.

    • flor says:

They still are in honeymoon phase. Once is ends, they will stop matching outfits lol

  11. Dhavynia says:

    Negative…annoying still

  12. marie says:

can I get an option “c”? they’re both equally annoying.

  13. Zee says:

She couldn’t find a cuter hat than that mess on top of her head?

  14. jamesnsparrow says:

I wanted to post this on the James McAvoy thread a couple of days ago, but didn’t get round to it, so this is a bit off-topic, but I always enjoyed the conspiracy rumours that he and Anne Hathaway didn’t get along at all during the filming of “Becoming Jane”… Around the time “Atonement” came out, he did an interview where he said that he had worked with someone he didn’t like and people had said that they had great chemistry which he thought just came down to good acting. Of all the actresses James McAvoy worked with up till “Atonement”, it mostly indicates Anne Hathaway as their chemistry was praised loads! Also there are no photographs of them together off-set, like at a premiere or even candids on set.

    Randomly off-topic, sorry about that!

    • kennedy says:

How can anyone NOT get along with James? He seems like the most lovable and genuinely kind human being in the biz. Also he was FANTASTIC in Atonement. Gosh, I love that movie so much.

As for Annie- I am still convinced she did not deserve to win the Oscar for Les Miz. Rachel Getting Married, yes! But come on- as if Amy Adams wasn’t just as good if not better in The Master? Or hell, I thought ALL of the supporting case in Anna Karenina could have used an Oscar nom.

  15. Ronnie says:

I decided I like her after seeing her singing in Les Miserables, she’s really talented, sorry I have to give credit were credit is due.

  16. anneesezz says:

Not with that stupid hat on!

  17. lucy2 says:

I bet she was thrilled Taylor suffered from foot-in-mouth disease.
She has been laying fairly low, so the annoyance has eased up for me.

    • Dutch says:

I’m with you there. Disappearing from the scene has been good.

    • DesertPoppy says:

Disappearing has done tons of good for me too. If she touches on the backlash in an interview in the future it should be just one and very briefly.

Edit: I actually think the matching gloves and scarf are cute.

  18. Catspyjamas says:

How little is that man? Anne is skinny and he looks her size or smaller.. For a man that’s tiny … Not seky at all ..

  19. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

McDonald’s called – they want that grease for the fries!

  20. Amy says:

NOPE. Still thirsty, still annoying. She’s going to need a couple YEARS to win some of her fans back. I’m gone forever.

  21. oliveo says:

Regardless of how annoying both are, Anne’s talent FAR outweighs Taylor’s. No question there. Anne’s career would benefit from some time away from the media, Taylor’s might just… pfffft.

  22. Debbie says:

    Nope they both suck.

  23. Rhiley says:

The gloves and coat combo are a great look; the dirty boots, which btw look like they were pulled from Keanu Reeves’ closet, ruin the look.

  24. Mary says:

I like Anne and don’t find her annoying in the least. I really don’t get why people find her annoying.

  25. dcypher1 says:

her and swifty are still and always will be equally annoying. but i think swifty is the most annoying and insufferable of the two. she takes the cake in that title.

  26. JH says:

Alfalfa sprouts are on the “foods to avoid while pregnant” list. Just saying.

  27. Melanie says:

I never understood the Anne hate and I’ve never even heard a good argument about why she is annoying. I don’t know people could hate someone so much for wanting an Oscar. Seriously, people act like she drop kicks puppies and small children or advocates for parents to not vaccinate their children or something.

    • Lyn says:

Agreed; it’s one thing to not care for her, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but the frothing-at-the-mouth rage she inspires smacks of groupthink.

    • Felicia says:

I found Anne’s faux shock at winning the Golden Globe a little annoying (bitch please. You knew you were going to win). But in general I don’t find her annoying. So she really REALLY wanted that Oscar. So what? I rather admire people that are honest about their ambitions. Those that act like they’re too cool for an award are the ones I find annoying.

    • gefeylich says:

Well, I’ve always loathed Hathaway because she’s such a crap actress (and btw, getting high profile roles in Hollywood has nothing to do with acting ability, e.g. Channing Tatum). Similarly, I’ve loathed Swift because she’s such a crap singer and her songs are lame.

I think these are both valid reasons for disliking them. The fact that they’re clueless, humorless [Swift], completely fake [Hathaway] women just makes it easier.

  28. garvels says:

Yes…..Taylor is more annoying than Anne.

  29. Helen says:

I’ve always liked Hathaway and still do, but I think this obviously orchestrated paparazzi-shot opportunity is HILARIOUS.

  30. Dee Cee says:

They each have their own distinct irritating your last nerve to scream special natural ability..

  31. Cordelia says:

Question: Is she ever on her own? Does he have a job?

  32. Anna says:

He is not attractive and has an effeminate smile.

  33. KellyinSeattle says:

I think Beiber is more annoying than both Taylor and Anne put together.

  34. Gemini08 says:

She could have been picking the sprouts off because they are disgusting and carry e.coli.

  35. Chrissie says:

No question – Taylor is a thousand + times more annoying than Anne. While Anne I could take in small doses, Taylor literally makes my skin crawl whenever I hear her name or see her photograph. Anne is at least kind of interesting and most likely smarter and nicer.

    • Annette says:

+1 – Anne at least is *usually* fine outside the oscar crazyness and is a great actress. Tayor though – ugh, never EVER, EVER.

  36. Lucy94 says:

Anyone want to take a guess at what that burger she didn’t touch cost?

  37. Patrice says:

A couple in their 30s walking down the street in not only co-ordinated, but matching outfits?? No thanks.

I will say that I’ve been a little suspicious about why Anne has been so slow to put weight back on after Les Mis, but I imagine that it’s probably tough for any woman, particularly an actress, to intentionally put on 20 or so lbs once you’ve gotten used to being really slim.

Also, as a fellow veg who happens to have an egg allergy, I can tell you that it’s really, really common to order a veggie burger in restaurants only to find out that it has eggs in it once it arrives. I can’t see why she wouldn’t just order a small salad on its own if that’s all she wanted so, I’ll take it easy on her for this one thing. I mean, it is LA afterall 😀

    • Annette says:

Well if you were naturally 20lb heavier gaining it back wouldn’t be “intentional” would it? (Unless she was 20lb heavier than her natural weight before for some role?). It would just happen.

I think the weight loss thing was mostly all just oscar campaign hype. Anne has been this skinny before. Sure, she lost a little bit but to be honest didn’t look that different from normal, I think it was mostly makeup effects making her look sickly. It did seem really hypocritical of her to go on about how AWFUL and FRAIL she looked at the lower weight and then go around flaunting her thinner figure on the red carpet like she did. Obviously she didn’t hate the lower weight or she would have gained it all back in 3 weeks or so. But that’s what always happens – actresses always tell you they hate skinny, they’ll never lose weight – and then lose weight anyway.

      • Jayna says:

I think the rush of the awards season, which now goes on for like two months, it seems, one awards show after another, nerves play a part in being thin. Look at Jennifer. She noticeably got thinner and thinner as the awards season went on. Both were winning awards and I think just overwhelmed during the season.

  38. I Choose Me says:

Love the gloves and the coat Anne’s wearing. There’s just something about cold weather wear that appeals to me but I just can’t with the matchy, matchy. They have good body language between them though.

  39. Kasia says:

No! Ladies – these gloves look like tablecloth. It’s not fashionable – no. And yes – they must have coordinated their outfits. How lame!

  40. Kasia says:

She does not know how to dress – the shoes, the hat and the awful bag. She has s*loads of money and she wears that…the coat is nice, though, but poorly styled.

  41. Tatiana says:

I can’t help but like Anne, even if she is sometimes annoying.

P.S: Have you seen this photo of Anne and her husband at the vanity fair party?

    http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2013/03/photo-booth-oscar-party-jennifer-aniston#/slide=1

    • Tiffany says:

They were adorable. I like her. She admits her shortcomings and had admitted to being a perfectionist and that can rub people the wrong way. Until she does something that harms people, I have no reason to hate on her.

  42. Lux says:

    Still extremely annoying TBH.

  43. Lily25 says:

Taylor has always been annoying. There was minor eye rolls when she was winning so many awards and acted shocked each time she won. She’s gotten more annoying for acting like a 12 year old when she’s in her early 20’s. Anne didn’t become annoying until Les Mis came out and her Oscar campaign. It’s too early to tell if it’s permanent or she just lost her head for a moment. I have to give her the benefit of the doubt since the Oscars isn’t insignificant.

  44. Jane says:

    Once annoying…always annoying!

  45. Peta says:

As someone else mentioned many veggie burgers have milk or egg in them, which would be a no-no for Anne as a hardcore vegan. Although you should be able to ask your server about that in advance.

As JH said alfalfa sprouts are a no-no for pregnant women. I know she talks non-stop about it but I don’t think she’s preggo or planning to be so anytime soon. She’s too ambitious, she has an indie film she’s producing lined up for the fall then the stalled Spielberg project. If another good role opens up between now/then you bet she’ll take it.

That Oscar party photo booth photo is cute but I all I could think when I saw it was I bet they kiss that Oscar every night just like that right before bedtime and tucking it in between them to sleep.

  46. Manon says:

    No.

Here we go again! Let’s demonise this young girl (Swift) who has the temerity not to laugh at a joke at her expense when maybe she is feeling a bit exposed and emotionally vulnerable at the moment but the “girl’s girl” crowd know you never cross thier high priestess Fay. There’s something about Fey I find quite unlikeable – constantly taking subtle swipes at others (usually women) but because she’s a “girl’s girl” she’s allowed to. Something very nasty about “Mean Girls”.

And btw, her face looked so “jacked” as you love to say in a recent DM article.

  47. Maxine says:

    No.

  48. Anna00 says:

    Nope.

  49. Kiddo says:

She and Swift would both be recipients of statues at the Annual Annoying Academy Awards, if there were any, and it would be the first time that Hathaway’s acceptance speech would appear genuine and completely unrehearsed, no need for it there.

  50. vvvoid says:

Hathaway annoys the ever living fvck out of me, but watching her sing I Dreamed A Dream [in the film] just now made me cry. She did a good job. Deserved the Oscar…though I hate to say it.

  51. gefeylich says:

No. They are equally annoying, because their insufferability springs from the same source: believing their own press agents. Oh, and being much, much less talented than they think they are and still being so inexplicably successful. Well, not inexplicably, but…you know.
