Olga Kurylenko wears Stella McCartney in Russia: pretty or too carpet-y? (update)

Tom Cruise Olga Kurylenko

Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko are busily promoting Oblivion in international markets before heading to the United States for lift city. We saw Tom grinning in Rio de Janiero late last week, and yesterday was the big Russian tour in Moscow. Do you think this movie will do any serious business? I think it might do fine overseas, but I think the American public has had enough of Tom for awhile. Basically, I think this movie might make a modest amount of money in the states but will only be redeemed by foreign grosses just like Jack Reacher fared. Yet Oblivion honestly doesn’t look like a very interesting take on alien invasion despite Morgan Freeman’s voice, and when I think of aliens and Tom Cruise, well, Xenu comes to mind. I guess we’ll see what happens on April 19, right?

Sadly, we don’t have photos of the actual premiere where Olga wore a pretty, light blue Elie Saab dress, and Tom dressed in a three-piece pinstripe suit (he actually looked kind of sharp too). [UPDATE: We do have the photos now, and I included them at the bottom of the post.] However, we do have these pictures from the earlier photocall, which Tom attended in his one of his well-worn sweater and jeans combos while poor Olga had to dress up much more. She wore a Stella McCartney dress with Louboutin shoes, and the dress doesn’t look as bad as many Stella designs. The fabric is interesting if a bit too carpet-y, and the bell-shaped sleeves are fun. Overall, the dress is quite flattering to Olga’s figure from the front, but side views reveal an ill-fitting mess because the dress hasn’t been tailored very well.

By the way, I know Tom is probably pouring on the charm for the photogs, but I wouldn’t worry about him putting the moves on Olga when the flashbulbs disappear. Remember, his team already tried to link Tom with Olga when news of his divorce broke, and Olga’s people immediately shut that sh-t down. Besides, Tom is probably still waiting for Julianne Hough to return his calls.

Now for a Suri update: If you’re wondering what Suri’s been up to lately, she spent Easter in NYC with Katie Holmes and wore a lovely Easter dress. It also seems that Suri gave herself a haircut too. Those bangs look just like the ones that my daughter gave herself in kindergarten. Yes, I was seriously bummed when it happened, but I took lots of photos for future blackmail purposes. I can only hope Katie did the same.

Here are a few photos from the actual premiere! I do like Olga’s styling and the Elie Saab dress, and Tom looks really good too. Maybe he had a “touch up” in Rio de Janiero.

Stella McCartney consistently designs the fugliest pieces.
It looks like it is freezing there, why aren’t they bundled up?

  2. T.Fanty says:

I don’t get why women wear Stella McCartney, Her designs are consistently shapeless and ugly. Although what is odd, was that when she collected her CBE from the Queen, she designed herself the most beautiful tailored suit:

It could have been worse — it could have been…*gulp* Marchesa *knocks on wood*

      • T.Fanty says:

At least a Marchesa (overwrought as it would inevitably be) dress fits

      • Eve says:

Hmmm…I’d still prefer a McCartney’s dress that doesn’t (fit). At least the one Kurylenko is wearing seems comfortable — it also seems like it’d be easier to run away in that dress (in case Cruise started scientology-ing next to me).

But hey, the good thing about Marchesa is that you can always recycle it and make one of those butterfly nets out of it, non? 😀

Too small doesn’t count as fitting.

      • Hakura says:

Agreed, x3 I think mobility was the point of wearing this dress (which look like my late great-grandmother’s drapes). Maybe the not form-fitting thing was to discourage Tom from ‘touching’ her? (You know, because he has to prove to/show the world his ‘manly’ ‘not-gayness’ by being all ‘touchy-feely’.

    • Happymom says:

Do you realize that her entire outfit from suit to hat was copied from Wallis Simpson’s looks? The Duchess of Windsor was consistently named to international best dressed lists. Although what a weird choice to wear to Buckingham Palace since that woman was so hated by the royal family!

  3. Yellowshaba says:

I agree On the Stella’s designs I think she is incredibly overrated… Olga on the otherhand is quite beautiful, I’ve seen most of her foreign films

  4. The Original Mia says:

Olga can do no wrong. Love her.

Stella McCartney can’t design for crap, so I’m constantly baffled why she wins awards and why folks choose to wear her stuff.

Is she still with Danny Huston?

  5. SydneySpy says:

I don’t get the attraction to Stella McCartney designs either, but what would a dag like me know? I’m saying it: I reckon it’s just the McCartney name. Aaanyhooow…. What’s with this woman’s top lip? And since you have your hand up, Olga, how’s about you give that git, Cruise, a hard slap for me? Much obliged.

  6. BooBooLaRue says:

God, i hope Tommy-boy isn’t putting the moves on Olga. Slap away Olga.

  7. Helvetica says:

Tom looks great in his sweater and slacks. I like Olga’s grey dress. Pretty.

  8. junegorilla says:

He’s gross. Stella’s designs are horrendous. Can we designate an island to ship all of them to? Along with Gwe
    nnie?

  9. KellyinSeattle says:

I really hate the neckline of that dress. Stella Mc. would be nowhere without her father’s name. Another no talent person riding on the coattails of other’s success.

    • Ally8 says:

She had great assistants for a while (Phoebe Philo at Chloe and about the first 4-5 years under her own name), but the current batch is not helping her out. The celebs keep wearing the horrible things anyway, though!

  10. babybarbie says:

olga has an amazing body. i dont like her face its fatty

  11. mystified says:

If a 7th grader had made that dress in a remedial home-ec class she/he would have gotten an F. Stella McCartney hasn’t inherited either parent’s creativity.

BTW I think I have that same Simplicity dress pattern from 1974 that Stella used.

  12. Esblondie says:

I don’t care what Olga puts on; she’s gorgeous and can get away with anything. Did you not see her in Quantum of Solace?! She was sweaty and beat up through most of the movie and I couldn’t take my eyes off her, and I’m straight! She was competing with Daniel Craig for my attention, for chrissakes! So the only thing I’m worried about here is why she’s not giving Cruise a c*ckpunch.

    • Hakura says:

Don’t worry =) I can see her ‘accidentally’ getting her heel caught in the red carpet & when Tom leaned down to help her up, she sticks out her stiletto heel as he backs up to pull her up… & gets knocked right OFF his lifts & onto his ass.

  13. Hakura says:

I don’t feel one way or the other about her dress. I’d never wear it, but eh. Whatever.

What does get on my nerves is the large accessory made out of sweater material.

  14. ol says:

he will fall for her, she will do anything for him to do so. and shes taller-bingo
