Rosario Dawson in pink Bottega Veneta in NYC: gorgeous or cloying?

Here are some photos from last night’s NYC screening/premiere of Danny Boyle’s Trance. Alas, James McAvoy did not make it to the premiere – I believe he’s doing a play in London. But Rosario Dawson was there, in this pretty pink Bottega Veneta pre-Fall 2013 dress (which I honestly thought was Victoria Beckham at first, because of the zipper). I really like the dress – the pink suits her, and she’s got the attitude to pull it off without the color looking too cloying or cutesy.

But really, I guess we have to discuss this in further detail: is that the face of a lady who is getting some Fassdong on the regular? LaineyGossip claims, “Rosario Dawson and Michael Fassbender were spotted together in his neighbourhood in London a couple of times this weekend.” It seems like they were both in London this weekend and… I don’t know, the idea of them together doesn’t surprise me at all. But you know what bugs me? I’m peeved by the backlash against Michael Fassbender for dating a lot of women of color. The man seems to have a physical type – overwhelmingly, he dates women of color with full lips and great bodies, and I think the reason the idea of “Rosario + Fassy” isn’t surprising is because she looks a lot like his physical type.

Which brings me to my complaint – why do people think it’s “racist” for a man (or a woman) to have a physical type? I’m a half-Indian woman and my physical type is tall, lanky white guys with dark hair and light eyes (and an accent). They are my dong kryptonite. Does that make me racist, that I’m a woman of color who is more attracted to white guys with those physical characteristics rather than other dudes? That bugged me with that Viola Davis post in February – Viola said her physical type was big black men. And? That’s her type. Why does that bug some people?

Anyway, I just wanted to vent about that. It was bothering me. There aren’t that many white actors who show such a preference for women of color, and I like that Fassbender is one of them. Let him be.

Speaking of my dong kryptonite, here’s a tall, lanky white guy with light eyes, dark hair and an accent. Oh, Vincent Cassel. My lover.

That shade of pink totally washes her out.

  2. Christina says:

Don’t like the dress. It’s matronly, and the zip at the top makes it look as though she’s got a microphone cable tangled around her neck. Plus, surely she knows by now that high-necked dresses make well-endowed women look like they have a shelf sticking out of their chest?

As for Vincent Cassell….. he’s not handsome, but he’s certainly sexy. Yum.

    • Jane says:

I would describe it as “frumpy”. She is beautiful and with a great figure and this dress does nothing for her at all.

Staying out of the dating conversation as I find it a bit creepy. Who cares who dates who so long as they are happy.

  3. srm says:

I have a friend who was at this premiere and posted pics on FB with both of them. I loved Rosario’s dress when saw my friend’s pics.

Ugh, my life is so boring! The most famous person I have pictures with is a statue of someone famous.

  4. mari says:

Isn’t kryptonite stuff that sucks all super power? From Kryptonians at least.

Does it super charge us earthlings?

  5. SydneySpy says:

Cor blimey! I don’t care how expensive those types of celebrity designer must-have shoes are, they make women’s feet look repulsive. Use them as ornaments if you love them that much, because they certainly do nothing for the feet. And you’ll never convince me they’re not torture to wear, either. Ugh.

  6. paola says:

Or is Rosario Dawson racist for having dated few white guys? Jason Lewis, Joshua Jackson among the others.

  7. Gene Parmesan says:

With fassy, his white fan girls mostly are surprised that their fantasy man would go for a black woman rather than the prerequisite white blonde woman. It’s unusual for them to see. I don’t know if they are surprised that a black women will attract such a handsome and coveted actor? Women of color are just as attractive.so yes this is their issue

    • annaloo. says:

I agree — when one type of beauty has dominated as the mainstream acceptance and standard definition of what is considered attractive, of course you get pissed when competition comes in that you can’t do anything about. Very different confidences about beauty develop amongst women of different culture, races, ethnic backgrounds, etc…

  8. bluhare says:

If he’s getting some of that, he’s a lucky man. She’s gorgeous, ad I disagree that the pink washes her out. She reminds me a little of the black woman who’s the head of the area Bones works in . . . can’t remember her name.

Vincent Cassel on the other hand . . . you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

    • Jacqui says:

You mean Tamara Taylor? (“Cam” on the show) I agree, they’re beautiful in a similar way. That said, not a fan of the dress! Maybe if you lopped the sleeves off.

  9. marie says:

Rosario is gorgeous but I don’t like that dress.

And Cassel is attractive in a creepish sort of way.

  10. annaloo. says:

I think it’s a tricky argument about people not wanting to be seen as fetishes… which honestly, at the end of the day, when it’s just you and what you are attracted to, it’s no one’s business. Robert DeNiro courted some of this same made up drama for loving black women. And then you get types like John Mayer who have a “David Duke ” penis. It’s a big world, if people have types,it just comes down to the individual if they want to be offended or let others just live.

  11. TheOriginalKitten says:

Well, it’s one thing to say he has a “type” but I just think the “Fassy only dates women of color” makes it seem like he has a fetish, which really just reduces the women he dates down to a skin color. It’s not like I’m offended by it and I don’t believe I ever accused anyone of being racist, I just think it’s kinda shitty to the women he dates, as it minimizes their personality and talent.

My last BF was a black dude and if someone told me he only dated white chicks, I’d be annoyed and kind of weirded out by it. I have a Japanese friend who has encountered many white dudes who only date Asian women and she said they’re freaky creeps. No woman wants to feel like she’s only being loved on because of her skin color or race, and I know “brown” can cover many different ethnicities but… *shrugs*..I just think it’s kinda wrong.

    • LadyMTL says:

ITA. It’s one thing to have a type (I tend to go for dark hair and dark eyes but there are exceptions…hello Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones and ASkars!) but the way people refer to Fassbender makes it seem kinda creepy. Like “Oh, it’s a fetish with him, he only dates women of color.”

I personally don’t give a hoot who he dates / bangs…whatever floats your boat, right?

      • ds says:

It’s opposite for me; I think tall blond guys (Vikings, as I call them) do it for me – if I had to pick the type. My boyfriend is really tall but has brown hair and is a completely different type from the “vikings”. I like the way he looks of course I find him attractive; but having a type doesn’t mean life can’t surprise you.

    • Lukie says:

My thumbs thank you for writing my exact sentiment.

      Agreed!

    • Sarah says:

yeah, this – its ok to have a type, but if you are super rigid about it, it gets creepy, fast.

    • AfroLondongirl says:

What a load of tosh! Rod Stewart only dates blondes does that diminish blonde women? He seems to have a preference for women of colour, Asian women, black women etc, how does his preference diminish me or other women of colour? Just being a woman of colour is not going to be enough to perk his interest. I suspect that you would have to be easy on the eye too.

      • Oops says:

I don’t think it’s fetish but for example I have some doubts about Dicaprio only tall blonde models. For me it’s suspect, and the worst is that they often had similar features with his mom.

    • Eugenia says:

The whole “fetish” thing is weird to me because it always seems to refer to a person preferring something over “the norm” or the acceptable.

People are said to have a fetish for black women, asian women, feet or etc. What is it called when a person finds blondes, white brunettes or women with big boobs attractive? I know for damn sure no one calls that a fetish. Sometimes if you’re lucky they call it a preference, otherwise they just call it natural attractive. LOL!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Not to me. I don’t see “fetish” as inherently referring to anything outside of the “norm” but rather focusing on ONE singular aspect of a person, instead of a person in his/her entirety.

Why can’t we just say Fassy is attracted to beautiful women?
It just kinda bugs that every post of him and his current girlfriend has to be punctuated with “Wow, look at Fassy and his love of colored women!”. It just strikes me as rude and demeaning to the woman he’s dating.

…and for the record, I loved him with Nicole Beharie (the chemistry between them in Shame got me tingly) but I just don’t think he was with her simply because she’s black. I think he was with her because she’s a beautiful, talented woman.

    • T.C. says:

Do you think he would have dated Nicole Beharie if she was beautiful, talented and White? The answer is no. He likes dark skinned women. That’s his type. Other actors like fair skinned blondes. I’m open to all colors of the rainbow.

      • andy says:

He only liked her because she’s black? How offensive to Nicole. She is way more than just looks.

    • ShakenNotStirred says:

I’m sorry but I strongly disagree with you. The fact you think dating a certain race should be considered a fetish is demeaning, not the person who has the preference. Lets face it, some are just butt hurt that he’s not into White chicks. He embraces the exotic. That’s not a fetish, it’s a preference. It’s like someone who loves brunettes over blondes. Does that person have a fetish? Fassbender has a fondness for mocha, chocolate, and caramel and that’s fine with me.

      • Oops says:

like I said previously, yes I think that if a man only dates blonde with blue eyes women (like Dicaprio) I find it weird (it’s the same for women) because this preference could be the reflection of a problem (of course some people are sane and it’s only a preference and they won’t refuse to date someone who look different their usual type)

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

It’s very simple for me–as I said above, if my ex-bf dated me because he “only dates white girls” I would be uncomfortable with that and yeah, I would feel like it has less to do with me as a person and more to do with a preference for a certain skin color and YES it would hurt my feelings and make me feel like it’s not about ME as a person. Plus I would wonder WHY he limits himself to dating only white chicks.

Is it really that unnatural to form an opinion based on how you would feel if you were in someone else’s shoes?
It would bother ME therefor, I have an issue with it. Just my opinion… meh, maybe I don’t get it because I’ve never been obsessed with a particular “type”, I fall in love with the person.

Oh and I have dated guys that were obsessed with blondes and it bothered the hell out of me. I just thought it was really bizarre and superficial on a lot of levels. Like if I changed my haircolor, they wouldn’t be attracted to me anymore? That tells me it has nothing to do with me as a person and everything to do with my appearance.

      • Mr.Smurf says:

        @oops

With Fassy or DiCaprio, I don’t think either of them have fetishes for black or white women. With Fassy, he dates anyone who isn’t as pale as he is which I can understand. He’s dated all kinds of women….besides a few weeks ago he was seen looking absolutely trashed with a blonde. I think he just wants someone different than him, he’s attracted to DARKER not necessarily dark girls.

With out modelizer mama’s boy, I don’t think it’s a fetish either. I think he just wants a girlfriend for sex, some type of company, and to keep the fans and media off of him.

He picks models because the majority of them are young, blonde, and bland looking in the face, generally inoffensive. That’s 90% of them right there, maybe having some brunette ones. I think he just wants someone to have on his arm whenever he needs her, and for her to be able to keep her mouth shut.

Which is probably why Bar got dumped. Between the paparazzi in Israel, her making those idiotic comments about “celebrities have other things to do than serve their country in the army”, she wasn’t smart.

Now do I think he is an idiot for doing this? Eh, he shouldn’t tell his fans that he wants to get married and have kids…unless someone will say no to him, because they want kids- Annette Bening Style.

As you can all see, I am so bored on my spring break…this sucks…sorry for hijacking the thread with modelizerdouche talk.

      • Leen says:

MR Smurf, I know I’m going to hijack your post a little bit but I have to defend Bar a little bit. She’s not the brightest bulb really but I actually feel really bad for her. No matter what she does, she always gets attacked in Israel by the right and the religious. When she was dating Dicaprio, the religious jews in Israel sent her letters and vilified her for dating a ‘non-Jew’. Then she posed in that santa costume and everyone got angrier with her. It’s like she can’t win in that atmosphere. She has a point about the army (I don’t think anyone would understand until you’ve lived in Israel for a good couple of years). I know many people who served in the IDF and came out broken people afterwards… And I know a lot more people who will do everything in their power not to serve in the Occupied territories (and yes I know a couple of girls who got married to avoid the military service). But I believe she reached a compromise with the IDF anyway where she visiteed the wounded and encouraged enlistment.

      Yes, I completely agree.

  12. Nev says:

Go for whatever type you want to!!!!!!!!

  13. Sarcasmo says:

Beautiful woman, fug dress. Date who you want!

  14. Cathy says:

I’ve dated black men, I’ve dated white men. What’s the difference. I would think that it matters more whats inside, and how they treat a woman than the color of their skin.

  15. Kiddo says:

I would say it’s more of a peach color and not pink. I think the color is flattering on tan or olive skin. She looks great, but I don’t love the positioning of the zipper.

  16. Lipsy says:

I don’t know what to say… I’m a Korean-Canadian and Caucasian men who only go for me because I’m Asian bother me (some actually prefer Koreans), because all they want to do is talk about Korea, Korean food, or they expect me to teach them Korean words. I grew up in Canada!

But am I any different when I am physically attracted to only Asians (hello Jo In Sung) and Caucasians (hello Tom Hiddleston)? I know there are MANY good looking black guys, Indian guys, etc. but it’s just physical type.

    • Chrissy says:

I’m Korean-Australian and I find it amusing that we both find Jo In Sung and Tom Hiddleston attractive. Haha.

But in all seriousness, I find it creepy when men of any race seek out a woman of a certain race. There is this one Chinese guy at our campus who only flirts, asks out etc Korean girls. Now, it’s personal choice but I can’t help but feel like a slab of meat at the Butcher’s.

  17. Nubiahbella says:

Funny if he was Black man and her white a woman people (those complaining) will be singing a different tune.

  18. bns says:

Vincent Cassel is SO HOT I can barely handle it. God.

    • Winnie says:

I was just thinking that! I totally forgot this was about Rosario. Heh.

    • T.C. says:

That man is sex on two legs. Hawt.

    • FassDaActor says:

Vincent and Monica together?…the bed goes up in flames. Too much hotness. Love him. You guys should check out a little known movie called Adrift.

  19. jasmine says:

sleeves are strange and the neckline’s all wrong, the belt should be elsewhere and the color, though nice, just doesn’t suit her! dating fassy is she??

  20. Marty says:

As a bi-racial women, I am very glad my black Father had a thing for Mexican women or I would not be here!

  21. Patata says:

    VINCENT!!!!

  22. moon says:

I love this dress, it’s so elegant and fun. Just wish she’d paired it with something other than that tiny pink clutch and pink shoes, that’s too much pink for me.

As for Fassy and his ethnic tastes – I agree with you. As an asian whose type happens to be lanky european guys, I get the flack sometimes but not that much. (I’ve found some black and asian guys hot, but I don’t have the hots for them, make sense?)

It’s like it’s normal for girls/guys of all ethnicities to have the hots for white people, but it’s not cool if reversed.

    • Moka Latte says:

I agreed with many comments, but I wasn’t going to post; until I got to your comment. I wish I could thumbs you up 1000 times for that last sentence.

That is exactly why there is an uproar. Let me put a disclaimer, before folks start accusing me of generalizing.

Disclaimer: I am a Black woman, who dates and has dated any and every ethnicity under the Sun. I judge the character, and could care less about the skin color. And what I’m about to say in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM applies to all Caucasian women.

Society has put the Caucasian woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, big boobs, and thin everywhere else; on a pedestal. Women in society who possess these characteristics have the highest value placed on them, so much so that any woman that doesn’t possess these characteristics are made to feel inferior; and those that do feel superior.

Blonde hair and blue eyes are recessive genes, which means that the majority of the human population doesn’t possess these things; naturally (even for Caucasian women). But at least a Caucasian woman that isn’t born with these things can dye her hair, which is why there are so many blonde Caucasian women (yet there are few natural ones). Although she isn’t natural, she still can come close to resembling the adored female idea (that society has). Women of color, especially Black women; can dye their hair blonde, as well. But they still won’t be close to the desired female ideal. Many women, Black, Asian, and more; get ridiculed and get accused of self-hate (or wanting to be “white”), when they do dye their hair blond. The belief behind that ridicule is that blond hair only occurs naturally for Caucasian people. It is truth the majority of the people of color you see (particularly Black) that have blond hair have dyed it; and again this is true for Caucasian women. If people making those claims would take the time to gain some knowledge about something other than themselves, they would know that there are Black (I’m including many ethnicities under Black; since Black is a race and not an ethnicity), Asian, Hispanic, and any other ethnicities not mentioned; that have natural blond hair. It is possible; same for blue eyes.

So, I said all of that to say: with the Caucasian woman being the desired standard of female beauty, many are so used to having their pick of the litter with men; that many are dumb-founded when someone chooses a different standard of female beauty (when the woman is of color). They call him racist, or belittle his preference as a fetish. It just can’t be possible that someone has a preference that isn’t them. The same happened with C.Kaepernick of the 49ers, when there was a Twitter uproar about his preference for Black women.

At the end of the day, no matter the color; many of us have trouble living up to that ideal. As women, live up to an ideal you set for yourself; and not one set by society or a man. If you aren’t the ideal for some man, then he isn’t your ideal. So, keep it moving.

Sorry for the long post, but I couldn’t make the statement I did earlier; without backup info. Otherwise, it would come off as condescending, and generalizing. Furthermore, I focused more on the female ideal and women; because (although there are men who do), most men don’t get offended and dumbfounded when an attractive Caucasian woman is with men of other races/ethnicities. Most, could care less.

the moment i fell in love with vincent

  24. Sweet Dee says:

I think that many people are reducing this to a fetish, but that’s unfair.

I’m a firm believer in “the biscuit tingles when the biscuit tingles,” and am physically attracted only [yes, only] to men who tower over me, skin color be damned, though I have a history of dating blonde, blue-eyed men. Okay, I like vikings. A friend of mine finds Asians more attractive but at the end of the day any girl with that “high-maintenance” look will do.

Both he and I have gotten flack from our friends, but there’s nothing we can do about it, except try and convince ourselves we’re not more attracted to a certain look, which neither of us is interested in doing. When you see someone who has that look, you go after them or are more open to being pursued by them and end up in more relationships with them, that’s just how it is.

Fassy likes dark skin, it’s not racist. It’s just what makes his dong tingle, and the one thing leads to the next.

    • FassDaActor says:

You said, “makes his dong tingle” hahahaha. I guess you can’t ignore that. As long as it’s not creepy (like total exclusivity or weird role play) then whatever. You have to talk to a person to find out. I had my suspicions about a guy that was confirmed. I’m a bw and I dumped a wm because he was saying some weird sht during…I stopped mid fk and said bye…and it was really good too!! dn! LOL

      I see you Vincent :p

      • Sweet Dee says:

Good call. There’s not always a thin line between liking a look and a fetish, BUT I would probably do just what you did in that case. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fetishes in general, but you have to be sexually compatible. There will always be someone else willing to indulge someone’s fetish. I’m not that lady.

  25. Maria says:

I find it bothersome the sense of entitlement people have over public figures; we ALL have a type to some degree.

I’ve seen white women mad about not having a shot and WoC offended that he MAY like a little but if everything. Either way, she’s beautiful and he’s lucky, if the rumors are true.

    Meh.

  26. KellyinSeattle says:

The dress really makes her look like she needs a more supportive bra.

  27. Melissa says:

I like the dress but think it would look better if it were cut above the knee.

Now onto the more controversial topic. I think many people have “a type” that they go for, but I lose respect for people that only go for that type. My type is tall with dark hair but guess what? I don’t think I’ve ever dated my type, including my now husband, because personality, intelligence, and sense of humor always, always, always have come before physical type.

Now, somebody famous like Fassbender probably meets a ton of women, so he can actually date somebody who is his physical type and who makes the cut in the personality department. But us plebes generally don’t meet tons of new people all the time, so when a see a regular person who always dates the same type, it a total eye-roll for me. It says to me that they’re shallow and care more about the physical than other things.

  28. derpy says:

I think the dress is pretty if it was a little bit darker pink it would have been better I think.

As for dating i like what a GUY said on another message board

Its offensive that people are annoyed he has a type he dates. Thats not their business he likes what he like.

its also offensive that people act like he would dracula hiss and throw holy water on women who are NOT HIS type.

Men arent that fucking complicated.I doubt he is either, especially if he is known as everwet and says things like buffet of choice. Women need to get over this situation. he has a physically preference but I doubt he is going to falcon punch you if you walked over to say hi/ get an autograph

  29. dcypher1 says:

I think he just likes women regardless of what color they are black, white, whatever. Hes a guy if hot ur hot regardless of color. I recall seeing him with a blonde a couple post ago. I dont think they are officialy dating I think he still wants to be single and have sum fun. Whether it be rosario, cameron, or some random blonde chick. Beauty is blind.

  30. YvetteW says:

It’s more salmon than pink imo. I think paler pink/rose would be more flattering to her skin tone. Beautiful girl though. Vincent. Sigh.

  31. nina says:

She’s gorgeous and Vincent Cassel is sexy as hell.

  32. ichsi says:

Yep, McAvoy is doing Macbeth in London. If there’s any truth to the story it would be the second time he played matchmaker for Fassbender (assuming that’s how they met) Daaawwww. My gingerbearded bromance.

I think it’s ridiculous to judge anyone for a type. We all have it. I like MEN who have something feminine about them f. ex.

  33. Julsy says:

She is gorgeous- and her father is white. I used to live in their sublet in NY. Mother is Puerto Rican.

    • Me says:

Her mother is Puerto Rican and Cuban. Afro-Cuban, to be specific.

    • Ali says:

Oops! You mean her father is half white (Irish) and half Native American. 😉 Her mom is Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban, so basically Afro-Latina.

  34. Ali says:

A declared understanding of the word fetish does not change its actual definition. People can’t just change the meaning of words to suit their agenda/ideas. It’s a degrading, demeaning, and diminishing application of the word and someone’s personal dating history does not make it any less so. Fassbender is attracted to beautiful women, beautiful women of color.

    Definition of FETISH:

An object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion prepossession

  35. Me says:

BRAVO, Kaiser, on your mini rant. I agree with you 100%. Also, someone wrote that he’s attracted to DARKER girls and not DARK girls. LOL. What in the world? Nicole Beharie is a DARK girl. And guess what? He was attracted to her. So… Um… Yeah… I guess he is, indeed attracted to DARK girls. And DARKER ones, too. LMAO. This whole thing is ludicrous. This would never be a conversation if all Fassy dated were white women. It would be considered normal. No one would be offended because he only dated white women. Let the man like who he likes and stop putting it down, stop trying to make it seem like something it isn’t, stop acting like it’s wrong and defining it as something that makes him a degenerate and stop being offended by it.

  36. Hakura says:

I’m as white as you can *get* (on par with a piece of chalk). And yet, ever since I was a pre-teen, I found myself attracted to black guys. I’d not spent much time during school in the company of any other race, because our area was mostly white.

I’m 27, & I still find myself drawn more *often* to black (or mixed in some way) guys. But that doesn’t mean I don’t find white or hispanic guys attractive too. Just that I noticed a lot of the guys that caught my attention were of a ‘darker’ complexion. ^_~

It’s totally f*cked up to make that asinine conclusion, that he must have a ‘fetish’ because he’s attracted to black women. Some people are attracted to blondes or red heads, what’s the damned difference?

  37. Just me says:

Everybody has preference and there’s no problem with that. I think what some people want to say is that some men and women only date a certain type because they have some fantasms about them and not because of who they are, and in that case it’s weird. We don’t know Fassbender and I hope (and I think) he’s/was attracted by his girlfriends because of theirs personalities and not only because of theirs physical apparences. But we can’t denied some people are fetish.

  38. WendyNerd says:

Not great— but I adore her, so everything she wears looks at least cute to me. Though the color doesn’t do anything for her.

Funny thing, Kaiser, is that before I saw your real name in your email, I always thought you were German because of your web handle. Weird, huh?

  39. Liz says:

They make a cute couple and I’m glad he’s finally dating a non skinny and tiny girl.
