Lady Gaga makes her first appearance in months, at the NYC Pride Parade

Lady Gaga has been MIA for a while. Have you missed her? I haven’t. There was too much Gaga there for a while. It was Gaga over-saturation, and with each successive interview, I just felt like she was getting more and more out of touch. Sometimes going away for a while and then coming back healthier and more sober is the best career move you can make. Technically, I guess, Gaga “went away” because she needed hip surgery and she needed time to heal after she canceled her Born This Way Ball tour.

But this this past week was such a good week for the LBGT community, so Gaga “came out of hiding” for the New York City Pride Parade on Friday. You’ll be pleased to note that she didn’t wear any prosthetic cheekbones, nor did she wander around in a witch’s hat and granny panties. She actually looked really healthy, healthier than she’s looked in more than a year. Oh, I spoke too soon – she was wandering around the event wearing some kind of visor (?) in front of her eyes. Ugh.

During her little speech to the LBGT crowd, Gaga said: “It’s my LGTB friends and fans who always said to me, I knew Lady Gaga when. Well, look who the star is now. Now I get to say that I knew you when.” Then she sang a version of the “Star Spangled Banner” – she changed some of the lyrics to make it more gay-friendly, I guess. Her voice sounds really good! Like, I could see her getting an invitation to sing the real anthem before a Yankees game.

She actually looks really, really good.

    • aims says:

      I was thinking the same!

    • BW says:

Well, she looks better than when I last saw her. Actually pretty.

However, I suspect that Levar Burton Startrek surplus eye visor is there to distract you from the bad hairline on the blond wig.

    • hunter says:

Yeah the top of her pantsuit sucks but the rest of her looks really good, healthy and fit!

  2. Sandy says:

She’s just so different now than when she first burst into the scene – not just her looks, her whole image

    • fingerbinger says:

I agree. I really liked when she first came out,but she seems so phony now.

      • BreeinSEA says:

Technically when she first came out she looked like this. I saw her play a small show in Seattle and she was so pretty and the best voice. Then she hit mainstream with the clowntreatment. Glad to see her looking healthier. She is still just doing her PR stunts though and feeding off of current events. Maybe if she supported something less trendy or controversial I might believe her. Like standing up for a cause that never gets attention.

    • leila says:

Well,it’s obvious that she had some work done..anyways I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing,it’s her face, as long as she keeps the “love yourself” BS to herself

      • bluhare says:

I was wondering about that. She looks a bit different but I thought maybe it was her hair or something. Although new hair is the oldest “hide the work” trick in the book isn’t it? 🙂

      • Ange says:

        lips and chin?

      • m says:

Shes gained more weight in her face and the hairstyle highlights that. She looks great.

  3. TheOneAndOnly says:

I’m sorry but this is famewhoring; she and her management team do nothing without an eye to pr. Her music’s mediocre at best (It’s funny at the casino i frequent i get to hear that Edge of Glory song about once an hour, but what do you expect for a mainstream corporate act); if she held progressive views before she became famous this would be credible, but this is just jumping on the bandwagon.

    • Annie says:

This is how I feel about Katy Perry and the video for Firework. I don’t doubt they support gays, but it feels like pandering too because divas make so much money off of gays. You’re not a pop diva if you don’t have a massive gay following.

    • Raquel says:

I once worked at a restaurant that played ‘Alejandro’ once an hour. I wanted to kill myself sometimes.

    • Tiffany :) says:

“if she held progressive views before she became famous this would be credible”

I think there is a quite a lot of evidence that she has always supported gay rights. She performed in gay clubs for a while before she was famous.

      • TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

Performing in clubs is different from affirmatively, and on your own volition, supporting a cause, any cause, that said clubs may be affiliated with – You’re giving this juvenile narcissist too much credit.

  4. serena says:

Yep she looks healty, good for her I guess.

  5. Gina says:

She disappeared for months, and now returns with a new album and looking very ‘refreshed’, chanting ‘rah rah, gays!’. Coincidence?

Since when does hip surgery make your nose smaller and your lips bigger? Born this way indeed.

    • Jess says:

Well, I don’t know about the nose and lips, but her hip surgery was no joke. I’m 5 weeks out from the same hip surgery (for labral tear and FAI) and still in a brace and on two crutches. My doc trained with her doc, Dr. Kelly, too. It’s not like you lay around for a couple weeks, and then you’re good as new. It takes tons of work in PT building up your muscles and basically relearning how to walk. Most people don’t begin to feel better until 3-6 months and don’t feel normal until 1 year. Most docs even make you come back at the 2 yr mark to check everything’s still ok. And all that’s assuming you heal well. Lots of people continue to have pain and have to limit their activities indefinitely after surgery.

More info than everyone prob wants — just saying I’m not surprised she was “gone” for months. As for the tweaking — well, perfect time to get other things done I guess!

      • Lemony says:

Hi Jess, I hope you continue to have a smooth recovery–I also had hip surgery for a labral tear back in November. I was on crutches for 8 weeks & then had to use a cane for a few days once I became more steady on my feet. I didn’t have to do much PT, as my strength & balance came back relatively quickly once I started walking again, but getting to the point of walking again was soooo difficult. Like you said, it’s learning to walk again. I had some nerve issues so when I tried to walk it was sooo painful, that’s why my 6 weeks on crutches exteneded to 8 wks.
But I’m doing good now! The pain is gone, just a new type of pain I feel from time to time, that “healing” pain, as they say. I’m 8 months post surgery, doing Pilates, hiking, biking, and best of all, playing tennis again! I hadn’t been able to play for 2 years! I’m hoping to jog/run in another 2 months.
Sorry for rambling, but I was excited to come across another person who’d had the same surgery. That was also when I discovered Celebitchy-many long days spent home alone surfing the Internet b/c I couldn’t do anything around the house.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes though, when Lady Gaga was riding around in a Louis Vuitton wheelchair 😉 No such luxuries for me, just crutches or the seniors’s scooters at the grocery store 😉

      • bluhare says:

I believe she had hip surgery. I also wouldn’t be surprised if she took advantage of the down time too.

      • A says:

5 weeks after Gagas surgery she was in heels again. She’s a phony.

    • Kassandra says:

She does look less like her usual androgynous, drag-ish self

    • DreamyK says:

Yep. She was definitely not Born This Way with that nose. She looks good and I enjoyed the break for her. I personally thought she needed to go away after her weird alter ego drag Jo Calderone shtick at the 2011 VMA’s. That was so bizarre. Nothing wrong with dressing in drag, but her trying to kiss Britney Spears and Britney all, like, NO..that was uncomfortable.

    • NM9005 says:

She was never there for causes after her hip surgery, not even a simple tweet (except about herself!) but she can be papped and send out quotes about her ridiculous wheelchair.

Now that they are slowly resleasing news about Artpop, she’s back on the scene.
If she would dedicate herself to her causes as much as she does to her ridiculous clothes, I would believe her went it comes to her advocating.

It’s clear she only uses it to promote herself. It’s all about her and her stans reiterate this by being sexist, racist etc pigs all the time and at the same thing acting like she is the poster child for every bad thing in this world and applauding her for it. It’s mindboggling. No wonder she thinks she’s the queen of the universe. And everybody else are her pawns in her game. Most celebs probably think this but Gaga’s image is portrayed differently so for her to make such a big mistake in saying this on record shows how delusional she is already after only a few albums.

To bring Madonna in this, she might be delusional but she always dedicated herself to her causes even when she had nothing to promote and when it could destroy her career.

      Rant over.

  6. Jenni says:

Lady Gag must releasing new single soon because she started talking about LGBT community. Again. BTW she looks like she had some serious nip/tuck. She was cut this way.

  7. Willa says:

Thought it was just me seeing her fave looking different. Like fillers, lip injections and just general tweeking.

  8. emmaV1 says:

I didn’t listen to her singing but if she indeed did change lyrics to our national anthem to make it “more gay friendly” then big shame on her and I find it disgusting. The national anthem is not to be messed around with….sing it with the right lyrics or sing something else.

A good song for this occasion would have been her born this way.

    • Fatty Magoo says:

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. People just don’t have respect for their country anymore. If your not going to sing our national anthem right then don’t sing it at all. It is so disrespectful.

    • Lucybelle says:

I totally agree with both of you. I HATE when singers try to make our national anthem “their own”. It is so disrespectful and obnoxious.
On another note, I remember during the 2010 Winter Olympics Shaun White was getting his gold medal and he was playing air guitar during the anthem. Made me want to throw up.

  9. Sannie says:

    I didn’t miss her..

  10. HouseofBeatrix says:

I was there but didn’t stay long because she made it all about her, as usual. She says we aren’t a niche, but that’s exactly how she treats us.

  11. Ellie66 says:

Blah….she back! And looking very nipped and tuck and filled. I for one didn’t miss her.

  12. Beatrice says:

I didn’t miss her at all. She looks good, but can go back into hiding now.

  13. Bbb1975 says:

Ugh, I just really hoped she was gone

  14. mimifarrow says:

She does look very refreshed, but that wiglet hairline is tragic.

  15. Talie says:

She was going hard for years… the break was a smart one.

  16. Malorie says:

Nice and subtle yet noticeable nose job!

  17. Davis says:

OMG this is the Lady Gaga that’s my homegirl for real. IDGAF she rocked the fuk out of that anthem and she looks so good. It’s chic and toned down but definitely all Gaga. I am re-in love.

  18. Sandy says:

She has a beautiful voice, which is surprising because other pop stars now, like Katy Perry and rihanna can’t sing a lick

    • Lemony says:

I know, right?! I don’t understand how people can actually sit through an entire album of Katy Perry or Rihanna….I can barely make it through ONE song.
I grew up on a farm wil all kinds of different animals, & when I hear KP or Rihanna’s yelping & bleeting it makes me think of the sounds the goats & sheep & donkeys & dogs would make together when it was feeding time. A cacophony 😉

      • Mirna says:

That is so true! They really do yelp and bleat. So surprising that they have so many fans who continue to buy their music. At least Katy Perry can write – her songs are quite inspirational once you get past the screeching. I just don’t see much redemption in Rihanna’s music, though. They’re mostly party “let’s get high and drunk” songs.

    • bluhare says:

I agree. I don’t care for her but she can sing.

  19. Asdfg says:

How the hell does Lady Gaga go off the radar?
she AND the public got tired of those stupid outfits and decided she needed a new image.

  20. Amanda G says:

That is the best she has looked since she first came on the scene. She wears classy much better than crazy.

  21. K-Rock says:

Wow when she’s not doing her whole GaGa “schtick” she looks really good! I mean really good.

  22. Mandy says:

She looked really great. I LOVE that outfit! I can’t believe I would wear the same thing as Gaga! 🙂

  23. neelyo says:

Hmmm, in several of those pictures she looks very similar to Camille Grammar and I’ve never noticed that before which makes me think she’s had something tweaked.

And that speech was a bit on the self-serving side.

  24. MG says:

Wow…she sounds amazing…and looks great. Hopefully she’ll be less annoying and less in our face.

  25. Lexi says:

She looks good, happy and healthy 🙂 Good for her, iam happy she is doing well 🙂

  26. Jayna says:

I never miss Gaga, and the point I really couldn’t stand her was her two-hour intervew with Oprah on OWN in her parents’ Park Avenue apartment. Ugh, talk about self-indulgent and jumping the shark. Her story was getting very old by then, not fresh anymore, and two hours of overkill. Plus, she looked awful in that interview with her hair and that outfit.

Her lips were embarrassing for a while, so blown up and tweeting photos of her new lips. They look better here, although still blown up.

I think it’s great she showed up and performed and gave a nice speech and looked pretty. I would never take that away from her, and she would do it whether she had a single coming out or not. Although, her new single is coming out. LOL

I still can’t get over that extravagant wheelchair of gold. It sickened me more than anything she’s done.

  27. NEENAZEE says:

I’m glad she came out to support the gay community this weekend… it was a BIG week and it should be a BIG celebration. HIP HIP HOORAY to the courts for finally striking down DOMA and Prop 8. It’s about time our country started letting everyone live FREELY like the Founding Fathers intended… not just the straight, God-fearing, child-rearing ones.

  28. xxx says:

Every time I see her wearing crazy eye-wear I just think about how much damage she’s doing to her eyes and vision. She’ll probably need 3 inch glasses by the time she’s 40!

Also, not sure you should be wearing high heels so soon after hip surgery. I’ve had a few operations on my knee and foot and I couldn’t wear heels (and didn’t want to) for quite a while afterwards.

    • Lemony says:

Regarding wearing heels, I totally agree. I had the same type of hip surgery she did & my dr. advised me not to wear heels 6 months post-op. Now at 8 months post-op I’ve started wearing heels, but not too tall, just 2 to 21/2 inches, and I can tolerate them for a few hours.

  29. Dethammer says:

I find it suspicious that she does these faux- impassioned activist appearances ONLY when she has a new album/single to promote. Also, if you look at recent pics of her in a bikini, she has NO labral tear surgery scars. But her nose is certainly smaller and her lips are bigger!

  30. Jackie says:

She’s so over the top that it’s easy to forget that she’s actually very pretty and can sing.

  31. Gia says:

I heard she went into rehab and this whole hip thing was a cover. She does look like she had work done on her face too. Kind of hard to preach ‘born this way’ you’d think…?

  32. Jarredsgirl says:

She looks prettier but still nothing super amazing.
I still can’t stand to listen when she opens her mouth.

  33. caityyygirl says:

Definitely some extra work done, looks like she’s had her nose thinned out more maybe?

  34. lasagna says:

so when did she get the nosejob?

  35. Renee says:

Definitely lip work done plus who knows what else. She looks healthy but nothing like before. I hardly recognize her. Have you ever seen her per Gaga on YouTube? Google Lady Gaga new York university. It’s amazing.

    • TheOneAndOnly says:

Interesting point; there’s one clip of her doing a cover of Zeppelin’s (sic)Dyer Maker with her NYU band;but once the corporate image makers got ahold of her, and with her compliance, they changed her image because no one would take her as a rock singer, and pop is where the easy money can be made – has any interviewer ever asked her where her stage name came from – like all else about her, she didn’t come up with it.

  36. Maritza says:

Great nose job! It’s the best she has looked so far.

  37. TheOriginalKitten says:

It makes me angry that her boyfriend is so hot.

  38. Susanne says:

Looks like the NYC Pride Parade is not Gaga’s only one reason to go to New York. They report ( http://www.manhattanscout.com/blog/lady-gaga-rents-22000-month-new-york-apartment ) that She obviously went there to get a new apartment in Manhattan.
